DUBLIN, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. XICO EE WARD. WILFUL MURDER. WHEREAS, at 5 40 A. M. on Thursday, the 4th instant, the dead body of Jonas Bottomley, confectioner, Keighley, was found lying, face downwards, on the canal side, near Monk Bridge Forge, in this borough, and on medical examination, there were found a large wound on the lorehead and another on the back of the head. There was missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium- sized gold Geneva watch, silver gilt dial much worn, and flowered back also much worn. An inquest was held on the 18th instant, and a verdict of wilful murder returned against some person or persons unknown. Notice is hereby given that the above reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the m rderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State Will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. WANTED for the murder of John Dukes, in Hill- street, Birmingham, on the night of the 5th August, 1883, Martin M'Gann and William Ryan :-- 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, hair brown, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; cut scar on left cheek ; walks erect; speaks slowly, with an Irish accent. Dressed in a dark coat, bcovvn trowsors, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age T9, height 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, Gomple » ion sallow, thin build. Dressed, when last seen, irt a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above- named men absconded from Birming- ham on the 25th August last, both having lived in Grosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are • well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided. A verdict of wilful murder against M'Gann and ' Ryan was returned by the Coroner's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham on the 13th September instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrants for their apprehension. LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy:— A painter, native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyes, sallow complexion, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the 13th ultimo he reported liims^ at Liverpool, and stated he was going to Manelrester, but has not reported himself there, and his present whereabouts is unknown. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. EMBEZZLEMENT OF X32. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the embezzlement of X32, the property of his employer, Mr. W. A. Kinghorn, Commission Agent, No. 93, Hope- street, Douglas H. Lamb :— A clerk, native of London, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, reddish fair hair, very Flight fair moustache, small side whiskers, a little shortsighted and usually wears eyeglasses; dressed in dark gray coat and vest,; light tweed trowsers, and round felt hat, generally wears stand- up collars, and had in his possession when he absconded a dark overcoat and yellow leather Gladstone bag; his mother, Mrs. M. A. E. Lamb, resides at No. 29. Dartmouth, Pai'k- road, Highgate- road, London, N. W., and when in Glasgow he resided at 130, Stirling- road. Accused absconded on 16th instant, and before leaving Spoke of going to Auckland, New Zealandj Police officers are requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and. if found to arrest and wire to the subscriber, when an officer will be sent for him. WANTED, for burglary at Holyhead on the 30th ultimo, William Patrick Reilly, Supervisee D 806 : — Age 28 years, height 5 feet 6^ inches, proportionate built, dark hair, gray eyes, two blue marks between leftthumband forefinger, marks ot'floggingonback, left ankle fractured, numerous scars on head and hands, and cut- mark on cheek; convictcd at Beaumaris Assizes, 12th July, 1877, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' Police Supervision. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who stand* charged with having stolen sundry sums of money, the property of the Guardians of the South Dublin Union, by whom he was employed as a Collector of Rates :— William Atkinson, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, brown hair, no whiskers, heavy brown moustache, round fresh face covered with blotches ; dressed respectably in dark clothcs and tall silk hat He was at one time Master of the South Dublin Union Workhouse, He was last seen here on Thursday, the 11th instant Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, 3, Exchange- court, Dublin, who holds a. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Germaine, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 14th July, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ;— 25 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, singie, is a teacher, born in Yorkshire, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside in Leeds; brown hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thin nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet fl- inches high. • This man was released, from Mountjoy Prison on 13th July, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at 24, Charlotte- street, Dublin, which place he has left without notifying change to the Police. He is supposed to have gone to Belfast. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 5, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and small wart on left side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry; his parents are dead. The dress, all with reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed boots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. The absconder is likely to enlist The Manager of the reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. DESCRIPTION of a watch found on Hugh Williamson, who has been convicted of stealing another watch, at Belfast, on 26th September, 1883, and for which no owner can be found;— Silver Geneva watch, No. 79654, brass dome, cream and white face, has a second hand. DESCRIPTION of six bullock yearlings, the property of James Carroll, of Drumsallagh, Poor Rate Collector, which were stolen from out of a yard in the town of Kingscourt, parish of Enniskeen, barony of Clonkee, on the night of the 2nd or morning of the 3rd November, 1883, where they had been impounded by him for poor rates:— Three one- year- old bullocks, nearly all yellow colour, with little white spots on belly, reddle marks over kidneys; one value £ 6, the other two value £ 5 each; the other three nearly all red colour, with small white spots on sides, reddle marks over kidneys ; value £ 5 each. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey, native of Smiths- town, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1883, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knocktopher, parish of Kilbacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— May have fresh cut- marks on right hand, gray eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 21 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey ( mother's name Mary Cashin), native of Smithstown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1883, in a public house, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knock- topher, parish of Kilbeacon, seriou9ly assaulted James Dollard, by striking liun on the forehead with a glass tumbler, from the effects of which his life is now in imminent danger, though he did not complain thereof until 16th instant:— Has a cut ( which may be now healed) on the palm of right hand, from the effects of the tumbler breaking therein when striking Bollard, clean face without either beard or whiskers, gray or blue eyes, regalar nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 7} inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm labourer, and it is believed he left for America on 16th instant. DESCRIPTION of Walter Meally, native of Crutt, Castlecomer, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1883, in the barony of Fassidinnen, parish of Castlecomer, seriously assaulted John Ryan, of Moneenroe :— May have small blue marks on face, result of coal cuts ; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, rather stout make. 5 feet 9$ inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft cap, dark coat and trowsers ; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of Mary Shanaghan and Patrick Shanaghan, natives of 21^, Meath- street, Dublin; who stand charged with having, on the 20th October,. 188o, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stoten two shawls out of a draper's shop at Parsonstown :— 1. Wants an upper front tooth, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 5 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark cloak and old dark dress ; is a travelling gambler. 2. Marks of old cuts under right eye, large ears, brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin facer wiry medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry bat, light coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a travelling gambler. NOTE.— There is no charge against Patrick Shanaghan ; he is husband to No. 1. Parsonstown, October 20, 1883. ( 60769 c— 8162.) N. B. Mary Shanahan has been returned for trial to- Quarter Sessions. It is requested that inquiry may be made about her, and if there is anything known against her, report should be made to the District Inspector, R. I. Constabulary, Parsonstown. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of September, 1883, in the barony of Coolestown, parish of Monasteroris, townland of Edenderry, refused to give any account of himself :— Dressed as a monk, clean shaved face, heavy under jaws, lrong teeth rather large and irregular, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, blue dress coat, black Cloth trowsers, and black vest. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Faughnan ( mother's surname Hearon), native of Glosdrummon, who stands charged with having, on the night of 6th October, 1883, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, being one of a party who attacked the dwelling- house of John Boyle, of Edergole and seriously assaulted Boyle and his wife:— Wild gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair ; wore a soft low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmers son. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Molony, alias James Ryan, native of Castleconnell, who stands charged . with having, on the 26th October, 1883, in the barony of Coshma, parish of Adare, stolen from the residence of Patrick O'Donnell, of Islanden, the following articles of wearing apparel:— One brown tweed frock coat, one pair shepherd plaid trowsers and vest, and one pair of shoes: — Smart appearance, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 19 years of age; is a servant boy. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Maguire and Mary Hayden, natives of Longford, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th or morning of the llth September, 1888, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, absconded from the Longford Workhouse Fever Hospital ( they being pauper attendants on the sick therein), taking with them several articles of clothing, the property of the Guardians, v, iz.:— 3 shifts, 2 woollen handkerchiefs, and 4 petticoats, marked with the brand of the Longford Union. 1. Marks of scrofula under chin, hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular lace, slight make, 4 feot 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. Longford, Sep. 13, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Hanigan, no fixed residence, who stands charged with having, on the 18th October, 1883, in the barony of Bantry, parish of St. Mary's, feloniously stolen a saddle, the property of Patrick Byrne, of Templebudigan, off a horse's back, the property of James Doyle, who was found dead on the public road at Ballinabanogue, at 10.30 P. M., on above date, under suspicious circum- stances :— Very long thin legs, knock- kneed, wears all his beard which is brown, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, slight make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 36 years of age, brown hair; wore a tweed coat, old tight breeches, and leggings; is a horse trainer.
