The Names of Persons charged uritk Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Tht Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, ryoperty that ha* been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6972 FEIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 1883. lofie*.— It if requested that all communication! for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all Applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, alS Letters addressed to the Editoi masts be preuald, otherwise the insertion will not be made The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable, ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should oontain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without » h « apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to Insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or ether vise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Amended description of ANTHONY HENRY, wanted on a charge of Wilful Murder :— 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, marked scar right cheek and shoulder, scars left of bac k, buttock and left knee, scar bottom of back, hair cut short, and comes down to a point in line with nose, has very prominent teeth, and it is with great difficulty that he can cover them ; has a recent scar on left jaw- bone, speaks with a strong liiah accent, is a native of Iunisvagle, Ballycroy, Mayo, Ireland, and is a labourer ; dressed in dark cloth or moleskin coat, moleskin trousers and vest, dark cloth cap, heavy lace- up boots, clothing dirty and of a clay colour. To be apprehended, and infor- mation to Captain Lit'le, Chief Constable, PRESTON, Lan- cashire— Bow- street, September 5. Whereas, at 12- 20 a. m., 28th ultimo, an attempt was made by one of two men ( whose descriptions appear below) to Murder a Police Constable by means of a knife * nd a revolver, in Cottenham Park Road, Copse Hill, Wimbledon. A REWARD of £ 200 Will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other thau a person belongiog to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the assailant or assailants; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the Grant of Her Majesty's Gracious PARDON to any Accomplice not being the person who actually com- mitted the assuu. t, who will give such evidence as shall lead to a like re* u't. Description:— lst man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, freBh complexion, and short sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in short dark jacket, and dark brown trousers ; has the appearance of a mechanic ; probably has his face disfigured from a blow. 2nd man, 45 years of age, 6 feet high, sallow complexion, and dark whiskers; dresstd in long black frock coat, dark trousers and v est, low black felt hat, and shabby genteel appearance. Descrption of Revolver :— a small 6- chamber Revolver, pin cartridge, cheap make, and quite new. Now in posses- sion of Police. Wanted at Glasgow on a Sheriff's warrant, charged with forgery and embezzlement of £ 209 17s 4d. : — THOMAS TTEIL) DUNLOP, a clerk, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 or LO inches high, stout made, brown hair fairish brown whis- kers, beard and moustache, all cut short, florid complexion, small nose, husky voice ; dressed in a blue cloth jtcket, vest and trousers, and black bard felt hat ; weighs about 13 stones, and has a swaggering gait; is well up in shipping business also married, and resided in Greenojk. Wanted on a warrant for forgery :— WILLE JANAUS- CHECK, alias JOHN WILLIAMS, a Pole, 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, br. iwo hair and mou- stache ; dressed in thin dark overcoat, black velvet under- coat, dark vest and light trousers. Wanted on a Warrant for Forgery, ROBERT JOHN JACKSON, solicitor, No. 4 Throgmorton Avenue, E. C., and Elme House, High Street, Walthamstow, Essex :— about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair, moustache and whiskers ( small), hollow cheek, florid tinge on cheek bones, eye brows very arched causing wrinkles on forehead, peculiar habit of blinking frequently, stoops slightly, very thin particularly about the waist; dressed in dark trousers, vest and frock coat, high black hat, generally carries a black bag. Committed for trial at the next assizes for Cumberland, charged with wilfully setting fire to a farm building, at Threl- EOBBEEY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Eastbourne, on 3rd instant:— a lady's Bmall gold keyless French Watch, white dial with blue figures, small piece broken out of dial. Information to Mr. Supt. Newuham, East Sussex Constabulary, EASTBOURNE. — Bow- street, September 7. Stolen from the person, at Clegg Street Railway Station, in Oldham, about 9.55 p m. on lst instant,:— a silver English lever centre seconds chronograph stop Watch, No. 26,467, gold hinges, flat glass, plain back with shield in centre, makers name, J. Harris, Manohester. £ 1 reward will be paid to any person, who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and re- covery of the watch. Supposed stolen from the person at Derby races, on 30th ultimo :— a brown Leather Case, containing about .£ 330 in Notes, viz., 2 £ 100 Bank of England Notes, one new, the other old and torn at one corner ; a few £ 10 Notes on a Glas- gow Bank, aud the rest £ 10 Bank of England Notes ; also a silver lever Watch, No. 26246. Stolen from the person at Blackpool Races, about 3 30 pm. 31st ultimo :— a 14 ct. gold cased patent Geneva lever Watch, dome very dirty, gold dial, steel fingers, small fiuger broken. Supposed stolen from the person at Blackpool, betwesn 6 pm. and 7' 30 p. m 31st ultimo :— a silver lever Watch, No. 13212, cream- coloured dial, steel hands, jewelled in 4 or 5 holes. Supposed stolen at Blackpool Races, on lst instant, the following gentlemen's Watches :— a gold hunting Watch, medium size, engine- turned cases, dinged at the edge ; a large silver English lever Watch, silver- coloured face, plain cases, and steel hands ; a gold lever Watch,' W. Hardy, B.' on back of inner case, and a gold curb Chain, with Guinea attached ; a gold lever Watch, with letters ' H B.' on back of case. Missing from a yard at Blackpool, since the 29th ultimo : — 5 Ducks, 3 white, 1 black and white, the other cannot be described. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen from the person of a gentleman between 8.20 p. m. and 9 p m„ 19th ultimo, while travelling ou a tramcai between < ummer Hill, Withington, and Owen's College, Manchester:— a silver Geneva Watch, No. 10,584, dial white in centre and cream coloured round outside, blue figures, the bottom part of the watch is round, and the top part nearly square, very far worn, had attached a gold Albert, snake pattern, with pen- dant, gold seal with red stone. 5s. reward. Stolen, from a dwelliog- house at Tracomb3, during the night of 5th instant :— a blue black pilot cloth Overcoat, to fit a boy, fly front, two pockets on hips outside, and one inside 1> ft breast, sleeves lined with drah and b dy with black material ( has been a man's coat, and altered); one grey mixed single- brea9ted monkey Jacket, man's size, one breast pocket, two hip pockets, and one ticket pocket, all outside ;| OL6 pair of man's lace- up Boots, with three hooks at top and toe caps, have been newly soled Information to Chief Supu William Egerton, County Hall, BIRKENHEAD.— Bow- sireet, September 7. Stolen between 9. m. and 4 30 p. m. 4th instant, at Rhyd- y- cuffen, by means of housebreaking :— a black cloth Coat, pockets on hips, one iuside left breast ; a black cloth Frock Coat, recently dyed, a piece about 14 inch wide let in at the seams of the arms to enlarge them ; a black cloth Vest, and a red and white cotton Bundle Handkerchief. Stolen by means of Housebreaking, from a cottage at Coleby Heath, on 20th ultimo :— a pair of men's elastic side Boots, near y new, stamped leather tops, toe caps ( which are pointed), revitted soles, small flat headed nails in heels, also a patent boot protector on each heel; supposed by tramps. In- formation to Inspector G. Cabourn, Kcaieven Police Station, LINCOLN.— Bow- street, September 5. Wanted at Hull, on warrants for Shopbreaking, & c. :— JAMES DYSON, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and eyes, and dark mous- tache, a native of Bradford, small hole in one of his cheeks, and first joint of one of his thumbs off ; drensed. when last seen on the 13th ultimo, in a dark worsted ord coat and vest, dark cord trousers, low bluck felt hat, at d white cotton handker- chief with blue edge. States he has been a soldier. BRADFORD JOE, about 25 years of age. 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, dark br . wn hair, large red nose ; dressed, on 13th ultimo, in dark coat and vest, dirty moleskin trousers and scull cap. Information to the Chief Constable, HULL. — fio » - st, Sept. 5. During the 31st ultimo ( supposed about 2 p m.) the dwelling- house of Thomas Wilkiueoo, Curborough, near Lichfield, was broken into by means of forcing the kitchen window open, which was fastened with a string and stolen therefrom, viz. :— a light brown mixtuie cloth Vest, single- breasted, no collar, brown bone buttons, black back, man's size, nearly new; and a pair of black aud white plaid cloth Trousers, large pattern, fly fronts, lined with grey calico, brass buttons, man's size, nearly n*- w. Supposed by a man about 40 years of as; e, 5 feet 4 inch- s hi^ h, stout build, dark hair, little or no whiskers, no moustache, dark complexion • dressed in brown cloth jacket and black cloth tr.. users, much worn, and hard black felt hat. M Simpson, on the motniug of 26th ultimo :— a eilver Geneva Watch, No. 14F> 751, ' 3, or ' 5 ; a silver Watch, on dome ' Philadelphia! 1* 76,' No. 145609, ' 11, or ' 13 ; a silver Compass, rope pattern edge, engraved at back ; 3 silver Necklets, flat links, with pet dints attached;. 5 silver Alberts, with bars, various patterns, one very large curb ; and sundry silver Earrings. 55 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Stolen by Housebreaking at Beckley, on 30th ultimo, between 7 a. m. and 6 30 p m. :— an old silver pair- ease " Verge - Bow- street, to Sergeant Evans, BRADLEY GREEN, Congleton. September 7. Stolen from a granary at Foggathorpe, on 3rd instant :— a snuff coloured cloth Jacket and Veit to match, both have 14 Sovereigns, aud £ 1 5s. iu Silver. Supposed by who were seen loitering about the premises : one is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, slight figure ; dresed in black cloth jacket, dark trousers, and very low- crown hard felt hat; the other is about ; 0 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, very dark eyebrows, dark hair, and rather stout; dressed in dark brown cutaway coat trousers, aud black hat. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a meadow at Leverstock Green, St. Michael's St. Albans, between 10 p. m. on 29ih ultimo and 5 a nr. on with a mixed brown 30th ultimo :— a skew bald Horse Pony, and white maue, tail rather long very clean legs, with white hiud lefrs, brown and white fore legs, had a sore dock about a month ago, it was seen coming by the Eagle public house, at King'* Langley, and coming towards Watford ou the morning of 30th ultimo, with a man riding upon it with only a hemp halter on, about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, clean shaved, with small whiskers near the ears ; dressed in a brown coat with pockets at the side, light trousers, fitting very close to the leg like a horse dealer wears, si le- spring boots and black hard felt hat, Hue neckhaudketchief, was seen carrying a small parcel in a dark handkerchief with blue stripes or spots, on the afternoon of 29th ultimo ; the parcel is supposed to have conttined the hemp halter. Description of a man who hired a Pony, Cart and Harness, at Aldershot on 1st instant, stating to go to Faruborougb, but drove to Beading, sold the property and absconded :— he gave the name of JOHN WILLIaMs, alias MORGAN, about 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, fresh complexion, small side whiskers, reaching about 1 inch below the ears, aud brown moustache, medium build, walks erect, supposed to have been in the army ; dressed in black hard hat, new brown reefing jacket, brown mixture trousers and vest, trousers worn at bottom of legs, heavy lace- up boots, stand- up collar aLd new light colourtd lie with dark Bpots ; is without doubt the man who stole a horse and cart at Southampton on 31st ultimo. Description of BOBEBT EVANS, alias BIRMINGHAM BOB, a tramp'" g groom, committed to take his trial at the next Quarter cessions at Aylesbuiy, for stealing a Hors", Saddle aud Bridle, on 28th ultimo, from Stowe :— 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 incb. es high, slight build, freckled face, grey eyes, brown hair, aLd clean shaved ; dressed in a grey tweed coat and vest, drab breeches aud gaiters, and laced up boots and black hard felt hat; every appearance of a helper in stables. Committed f or trial at next Quarter Sessions for the County of Leicester, charged with Veiling 39 Sheep from Knipton, near B ilvoir Castle : — WILLI AM LUCAS stated he is a drover, has attended the Loudon Cattle Markets for several yea/ s, no fixed residence, born in India, lodged a long time at St. James' Chambers, Poplar; 66 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches- high, grey eyes, hair, aid whiskers, round chin, fresh compl- xton ; dressed iu old dark dust coat, dark trousers, and light clo h vest, and billy hat, and laced boots. Stolen ( after being hired) on 1st instant, from Hemp- stead, Essex :— a bay Mare, aged, 15 hands high, black piinti, broken knees, was wearing a new pair of knee caps; also a light spring Cart, painted brown, shafts lsad colour, cross spring under cart, green leather cushion, brown horse Rug and dealer's Whip. Stolen from a stable at Rochdale, during the night of 2nd instant :— a dark grey Horse, 5 years old, 15 hends high, one of its ears is broken and drops ( outwards, tail, cut square, carries his he id high ; a set of silver mounted Harness, nearly new, with plain rosette on each side of bridle ; a riding Saddle and Bridle, and a Whitechapel Cart, painted black, picked out with red, and brown owners name ' Edmund Miglay, Howarth Cross, Rochdale,' thereon, aLd makers name on the capi of thp wheel, ' Derbyshire and Houseley,' DR Information to Jos. Stolen on 31st ultimo, from the Rose and Thistle, Three- field Lane, Southampton :— a Pony and Cart ( recovered) By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair, moustache, and slight side whiskers, bigh cheek bones ; wear- ing a new hrown tweed coat., dark trousers, and hard black felt hat. Supposed to be TOM WHILES, a native of Black- burn, Lancashire, who was formerly in the 2nd Battalion 8tb Regt* of Foot, aud the 7th !•' ussars. Information to Mr. Thomas Brsary, Head Constable, SOUTHAMPTON.— Bow- street, Sep'. embcr 5. chiefs. By a woman, 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 luches high, dark complexion, back hair and w^ ars a fringe ov r forenead, sltnder build ; dressed iu an old black dress with large buttons down front, old red plaid shaw, old black hat, partly trimmed with white. Supposed to be a Scotch woman aLd speaks that dialect; Bhe is in company with a man 21 or 22 years of age, d irk complexion, dark hair and mou- stache, little or no whwkers, stout, build, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high ; were traced to Goole, where his old clothes were sold, and is now wearing the stolen clottres- aud a burd felt hat ; was last seen going towards Doncaster. Information to In- spector R W. Kelsey, E. R. Constabulary, HOWDEN, Yorks.— Bout street, September 7. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Stalybridge, on 2nd inst. :- OneHundred Pounds, itiSovereigns, Half4Sovereigns, and Silver. By a man and woman who had been lodging in the bouse for a month previously; the man is a brass finisher, 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 it ehes high, bltck hair and clean shaved ; dressed in black worsted coat, vest aud trousers, and is a native of Birmingham. The woman, who passes as his wife, is about 21 years of age, short aud slender Ouild, and black hair; dressed in grey dress, black hat, trimmed with fur, low shoes, and red stockings ; has a child iu arms, and a native of Carlisle. Information to the Chief Constable, STALYBRIDGE— Bow- street, September 7. Description of GEORGE HICKS, charged on a warrant with stealing a Gun ( recovered), on lftthult. :— he absconded from bail ou 27th ultimo ; has been convicted in Berks and Bud's ; he is about 37 years of age, 5 f<- ot 6 or 7 inches high, full face, light whiskers aud moustache, shaved chin ; was wearing a cloth cap aud pepper and- salt colored suit of clothes. Stolen from a house in Windsor, since 14th ultimo :— 12 silver SpoonB and a pair of Sugar Tongs, marked ' W. L. R.' Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, WINDSOR, Berks.— Bow- street, September 7.
