The man advertised in Police Gazette of 20th instant, as wanted at Stockport, for stealing £ 28 with violence ac Whaley Bridge, has been apprehended and committed for trial.— Bow- ureei, Jvlv 27. MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas, a Coroner's Jury has found a verdict of Wilful Murder against HARRY HAMMOND SWINDELLS, for haviog ou 16th instant caused the death of James Wild, by shooting him with a revolver. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to aDy person, other than a person belongirg to a Police Force in the United Kingdom, who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discoveiy ai d conviction of the Murderer. He is 49 yrs. of age, 5 feec 3J inches high, sallow complexion, dirk brown hair, moustache ai. d beard American fashion, whiskers shaved oil', dark blue eyes, Raman nose with blue mark on the bridge, high cheek bones, large mouth, has only one or two teeth in upper jaw, scar on right side of neck, little finger of right hand crooked, walks with a swinging gait; dressed in a black ribbed double- breasted worsted slack- back jacket ( the right shoulder and arm of which may bear traces of limewash), trousers and vest of same material, new black soft billyco'sk hat with large brim, new spriug- side boots with square toes ; he formerly was steward in the service of the Allan Line Company, working between Liverpool and New York; is well known at the Liverpool Docks; will no doubt endeavour to escape to America. Wanted at Bootle on warrant charged with Forging Bonds to thevalue of £ 18,000:— THOS. DRAPER PIERCE, Lt.- Col. Town Clerk, of Bootle, Lancashire, about 40 years of age, 5 ft. 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown bair, whiskers, and moustache, medium build, downcast looir, stoops a little, has been very unwell for some time, and will in all probability Slav at some hotel, and consult a medical man ; dressed, when last seen, in a dark overcoat, and hard felt billjcock hat; had with him a small . leather bag, tin box, and travelling rug. Left Et ge Hill Railway Station, Liverpool, by the 3T0 p. m. train on 19th instant, booking to Rugby, where he gave up his ticket on the arrival of the train, and at once booked on to Euston Station, LondoD. He was accompanied by his son, 14 years of age. £ 10 reward will be paid for such informa- tion as will lead to his apprehension on application to Mr. Supt. Walsh, BOOTLE.— Bow- street, July 23. Absconded from Calcutta, charged with Forgery and uttering Forged documents :— ROBERT BRUCE McPHUN, a Scotchman, 30 to 40 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, very curly hair, ea'd to be unable to grow bair on face, might be taken for an actor, and gentlemanly appearance ; a tea mer- chant. Has relatives at Ayr, N. B., and friends at Glasgow. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.— Metropolitan Pilice, July 20, Charged with feloniously uttering and putting off, know- ing the same to be Forged, a certain Acquittance and Receipt BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Christmas Common, Watlicgton, Oxon, on 19th instant:— a dark cloth Jacket, man's size ; a pair of small gold Ear- iiags ; one odd Ditto ; a wedding Ring, much worn and broken ; a tilver Ring with small red stone, much worn ; a small Brooch, with white stone, with a woman's head engraved thereon, imitation cameo: two small scent Bottles, metal tops; and a small Album, to hold four or six photographs. Stolen by means of burglary, between 22nd and 23rd instant, from the Manor House, Stainton :— a church Service consisting of a silver Dish or Plate ; a silver Cup; a silver Chalice, marked ' Bridget Boswell,' in large letters, also an inscription, not known ; a silver dessert Spoon, maiked ' N'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' N' on bows ; a silver Tea Caddy, marked' M'; 3 silver Teaspoons not marked, and a common Mustard Spoon. Information to Supt. Sykes, West Biding Constabulary, Das caste r..— Sow- stroii, July " lb. At 12 p. m. on the night of 19th instant, the residence of Mr. H. J. JNott of ' The Farlands Licgen,' was burglariously entered by taking out a large pane of glass in the kitchen window, the burglar proceeding to the servant mans bedroom, where an alaim was given, and he escaped, leaving behind him a hazel walking slick at the window :— a tramp of the following description, who can be identified was seen about the neighbourhood for several hours previous, offering tracts for sale, aud askiug at respectable houses for money to pay for lodgings for himself aud others, who had been sleeping out for several nights. He is 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate build, light hair turning grey, cut short, tuft on chin, swarthy complexion, eyes sore and inflamed, showed wounds and deformities on the arm and leg ; dressed in wide awake hat, grev jacket, faded on the shoulders, old boots, cut on the tops, walked with the stick which was lefc behind. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Wotton, between 9 a. m. and9 p. m. on 18th instant:— two pars of gold Ear- rings; one gold RiDg, with bloodstone ; one gold Ring, with 3 blue stones ; one silver Locket and Chain ; one silver Ring ; one leather Purse ; four pairs of lady's Drawers ; and one Chemise. Supposed by tramps. The Jewellery was sold at Guildford ou the same day by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches higb, dark complexion, hair and whiskers, turning grey; dossed in a light coat, cord trousers, and black soft hat. Stolen from Norton, between 3rd and 12th instant :— four 3- year old wether Sheep, of Radnor Forest breed, notch on point of left ear, and piece from iuside of right ear, pitch marked with ' J. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wanted on a wairant, charged with stealing, at Ebbw Yale on 22nd instant, an open face silver Geneva Watch, white dial, nearly new, number unknown, and a blacs round hair Albert:— GEORGE BURTON, a labourer, 24 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches higb, proportionate figure, sallow complexion, full grey eyes, rather long [ neck and nose, small dark brown moustache, a very large scar on shoulder blade from a cut, anohor tattooed on forearm, a number of small black specks in skin down his cheeks ( sometimes called grubs); dressed in a suit of yellowish or grey colour cloth, dirty and rather large for him ( especially the vest), cross- bar pattern, low black bowler hat, elastic- side boots, white stand- up collar, and a dark purple tie with yellow spots, puce and grey cotton shirt; has been in the army, and a Dative of Medley or Maidley, Worcestershire. Description of RICHARD COULTATE, wanted by warrant for embezzling £ 100. the Monies of his employers :— he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 iDches high, fresh cumplexiotj, round full face, light brown hair, moustache, and side whiskers, shaved on chin, stout build, broad shoulders, watks very erect, and with a quick step, and speaks rather sharp ; dressed, when last seen, in black worsted morning coat and vest, aud black billycock hat with broad brim. Absconded from Burslem on 25th instant, charged on warrant with ttealinp a quantity of Wearing Apparel ( part recovered): — ANNIE POWELL, of 2, Brown Street, Burslem, potter, 17 years of age, 5 feet bigh, fresh complexion, sandy hair, slender build ; dressed in black cloth jacket, trimuied with fur, dark stuff dress," elastic side boots, and the stolen articles, not recovered :— a white straw Hat, trimmed with claret and yellow coloured satin and white feather, and a grey woollen Snawl with fringe. She has an uncle, named Weaver, living at Hatton Heath, and another named Powell, at Prees, Salop. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, BURSLEJI. who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, Jul.. 27. ^ Description of ELIZA DUNBAB, alirs DAWSON and FIELDER, who is charged on a warrant with stealing from her lodgings at Slough, on 12th instant:— a small gold Geneva Watch, No. 7517; a silver lever Watch ; a lady's gold dia- mond Ring, and other articles. She is 28 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 2f inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, frets!' complexion, light side of mouth slightly drawn, a native of Wokingham, Berks ; dressed in a black satin dress, tiir„ r.. J \.\ eta"" f& ee, black velvet jacket, and a b' etrinp hat with a feather. She was convioUid ott two riwtrgsa of lard- ru- in March, 1682, at Aldershot, and is supposed to have been convicted at ot'ier places. She goes from town to town obtaining respectable lodgings, and at the first opportunity she robs the same. Information to Supt. Thos. The Overcoat, reported stolen at 5, Ways Heath, Hay, Hednesford, between 10th and 21st instant, and advertised in Police Gazette of 25th instant, has been found pawned at Cannock.— Bow- ttreet, July 27. Stolen at Petwortb, on the evening of 21st instant:— 14s. By a tramping baker and confectioner, about 35 years of age, 6 feet high, light short moustache, and a few whiskers at side of face ; dressed in an old brown or dark jacket, light trousers and waistcoat, light, cloth cap, and lace- up boots with hooks at the top, has been in the army. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemmisli, West Sussex Constabulary, PETWORTII.— Bow- street, July 25. Description of GEORGE HILL, late of Stafford Street, Willenhall, bricklayer's labourer, charged with stealing on 2lst instant, at Willenball. a silver English lever Watch ( recovered). Reg. D. D., No. 1710 :— he is about 31 years of age. 4 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair aud eyes, sandv whiskers and moustache, old cut mark left cheekbone, and medium build ; dressed in old cloth cap with peak and earflaps, light tweed coat and vest, moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longden, BILSTON, or t> Mr. Inspector Cook, WILLENIIALL, Stafford- shire.— Bow- slreet, July 25. Stolen on the night of 17t. h or mcming of 18th inst. :— two 1- lb. Paint Brushes, marked ' 4 | O'; and four Tool ditto. Supposed by two men : one is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy brown moustache, and rather round face ; dressed in blue serge trousers, dark jacket, and round hard hat.; a printer by trade, and supposed native of Birmingham ; the other is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, heavy dark browu moustache, and thin build ; dressed io dirty dark coloured clothes ; stated he was a hatter by trade, supposed native of Birmingham. Charged with stealing at Stoke- on- Trent, on 19th instant, a Cashmere Dress, and analpacca Jacket ( dress recovered):— ELIZABETH EVANS, laundress, 38 years of age, 6 feet 3£ t inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slander build, slight cast in eyes, native of West Brornwich, Staffordshire. Charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of money belonging to his masters :— WILLIAM WEETMAN KBATLEY, about 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light, i hair and whiskers, chin shaven, florid complexion, round POLICE GAZE TTJffi. July 27 bloated face caused by excessive drinking, broad shoulders, stoat build, walks erect, but limps sligbtly, having sprained one of his ankles ; dressed respectably ; was last seen OD 16th instant. Information to J. Earndale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM.— Bow- street, July 23. Charged with stealing a waterproof Coat recovered; ami an ash walking Stick, self- grown knob, brass ferrule an inch long and shuttle tip in the end :— JAS. BUTTER WORTH, a farm servant, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, light complexion and hair; dressed in pilot" jacket, drab sleeved vest, broad ribbed fustian trousers, and strong laced boots ; had also in his possession a suit of new clothes ( black worsted coat and vest, and grey mixturo cloth trousers). He is fond of drink, smoking-, and concertina playing. Information to M. Supt In man," West Riding Constabulary, SETTLE, who holds warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 23. Absconded, on 23rd ult., charged on a warrant with em- bezzlement:— a man, 38 or 40 yrs of age, 5 ft. 71 ios. high, fresh complexion, flushed brown hair, believed tinged with grey, light- brown or sandy whiskers and moustache, very bushy and thick, stout build, inclined to be corpulent, round shoulders ; dressed in snuff coloured tweed suit and hard bowler hat, and carried a black leather bag, on which is believed to be his name. He was employed some few years ago as goods- guard an the Great Western Railway, and might probably be found in the company of railway official Information to Frank Richardson, Chief Constable, HEREFORD.— Bow- street, July 23. Further information respecting CHARLE5 HENRY MOORE, advertised in Police Gazette of 16th instant and subsequent dates. The stolen Watch was pawned in the name of Thompson, at Dublin, on 14th instant. Other Watches supposed to have been in Moore's possession, when he absconded, were pawned in the same name at Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Bilston, Wolverhampton, and Chester, between the 9th and the 12th instant. Moore who is still at large is likely to be in Ireland, or the north of England. In- formation to the Chief Constable's Office, LLANDILO, Carmar- thenshire.— Bow- slreet, July 23. FELONIES. Absconded, charged with felony JOHN CARTER, 36 to 40 years < f age, 5 feet 3 inches higb, fair complexion, dark brown hair, bald on top of head, small whiskers at side, shaved under chin, long moustache, sharp appearance ; sup- posed dressed in light Scotch suit, high silk hat. Has friends at Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.— 2/ etropolitan Police, July 23. Stolen on 21st instant, from the till ia the shop at No. 27, Norman- road, St. Leonards :—£ 6 in Gold. Also stolen, from the shop at 27, Queens- road, Hastings : — about £ 10 in Gold and Silver. Supposed by two men :— one is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches higb, fair complexion, no whiskers, aud small moustache ; dressed in a grey suit, black hard felt hat. and low oxford shoes with blue tops ; the other is about 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and black hard felt hat. In both cases one of these men went into the shop and asked for change for a| sovereign, and then asked the price of some article in the window, calling the shopman outside, when it is sup- posed the 2nd . man went into the shop and committed the robbery. Also stolen, from a bedroom at 19, White Rock Plaee :— a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, gilt dome, chased back, No. 5380. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. W. M. Glenister, HASTINGS — Bow- street, July 23. Stolen from a common lodging- house in Iron Bridge, about 5 a. m. on 22cd instant:— » rr oI3~ CaHco Shirt, much worn, and a brass clasp leather Purse, containing 4 Half- Sovereigns in Money, the property of Thomas Bolan. By a man who lodged in the house and absconded, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair and complexion; dressed in dark clothes, round hard hat, and carried a dark satchel with strap over shoulders. Information to Mr. Ivins, D. C. C., WELLINGTON, or to Sergt. Turner, MADELEY, Salop.— Bow- slreet, July 23. Stolen from a cottage, at Clee Hill, Salop ( during the building of the same), between 19th and 21st inst. :— 3 ear- penteis Chisels aud one Hammer, viz, one If inch, another il ienh, the other 1 inch, with boor wood handle, and marked ' S. Nash,' all much worn, the hammer is of country black- smith make, and about 6 oz. weight, the property of Richard Nash, of Clee Hill, carpenter. A tramping carpenter is sus- pected, who said he was making for Kidderminster or Wol- verhampton, and is 48 or 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, has been in the army and has military appearance, brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in tweed suit, may not all be of tVe same material, trousers roughly patched on each knee with black cloth. Information to Mr. Supt. Caswell, County Constabulary Office, CHURCH STRETTON, or P. C. Straffen, CLEE HILL, Shropshire.— Bow- st., July 23. Stoler from a dwelling- house at Cayton, near Scar- borough, during the night of 15th instant :— a dark grey mixture tweed cloth Coat, man's size, about half worn, pockets on hips, one inside left breast, bound round with black braid, dark bone buttons, had a memorandum Book in inside pocket; a pair of elaitic- side Boots, man's size, block fronts, about half worn, each boot capped at side. Supposed by a tramp, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, ginger hair, inclined to curl, ginger whiskers, slender build ; supposed dressed in stolen coat, blue jean jacket underneath, moleskin trousers, round felt hat, and stolen boots, as a pair of old low shoes were left near the house. Wanted, charged on a warrant with fraud :— HENRY GREY, 45 to 50 years of( age, 5 feet 6 inches high, full com- plexion, fair beard and moustache ( turning grey), square shoulders, medium build, weak knees; dressed in dark coat, light mixture trousers, and tall hat; has had letters addressed to Mr. Hancock, 7, Bishop's- road, Paddington, till called - for. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, OLD JEWRY, London, E. C.— Bcrw- street, July 18. Description of EDWARD BROWN, wanted on warrant, charged with stealing a light spring Cart ( recovered), on or about the 16th October, 1882 :— 55 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, turning grey ; dressed, when last seen, in dark cloth jacket, dark trousers, black felt hat with square top, and old lace- up boots ; has a very shabby appearance ; a native of Cossington, Leicestershire. J This man has served six months in Her Majesty's Prison, Leicester, for horsestealing since 1st January last. Is in the habit of travelling the country collecting old iron, & c., with a pony and four- wheeled trolly. Has a daughter, Mrs. George Ham- bleton, residing at Ashford, near BakewelJ, Derbyshire. He is well known in Leicester, having resided there. Information to Mr. Supt. Thos. Peberdy, LOUGHBOROUGH, Leicestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st-, July 18. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged on warrant with obtaining credit from Fredk. Marriage on 14th instant, for 1 Heifer and 10 Sheep, by means of a fraud :— W. Was convicted of larceny at Salford Sessions in Jan. 1882, and sentenced to 12 c. months imprisonment, and two years police supervision.
