Rlottce.— It il requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polioo Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ftll &> etters addressed to the Editor uitatrt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person hy whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tae persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It ie particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and PIT LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary, INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Since 25th ultimo 29 forged or fabricated Notes, purport iug to be £\ Notes of the Royal Bank of Scotland, have been uttered in Glasgow and the West of Scotland ; a reward of One Hundred Pounds will be paid by the Directors of the Royal Bank of Scotland to the person who will furnish the subscriber, or any officer of police, with such information as • will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons concerned in the forging and uttering of the said Notes, and to the recovery of the plate from which they had been printed. Description of Forged Notes :— the Forged Notes are all numbered ' M 671 | 695', and dated 1st July, 1882, and have the words Promise to pay to James Wright or the bearer' engraved on the body of them, whereas all the genuine Royal Bank Notes issued since 1874, have only the words ' Promise to pay on demand- to the Bearn,' and the name ' James Wright' omitted. The plate from which the Forged Notes have been printed has borne the words,' Engraved on steel by W. H. Lizars, Ed in- burgh.' Description jof a man who passed several of the Forged Notes in shops in the Eastern District of Glasgow :— 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, bare face, which is red and blotched, very small nose, and stout made ; dressed in a black shabby frock coat, hound with very broad black braid, and black satin hat. Stoien from the person, on Race Course, at Beverley, on 13th instanta gentleman's gold lever Watch, No. 19854, maker, C. J. Fox, Beverley, rather old- fashioned make. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Knight, Guildhall, BEVERLEY, Yorks. — Bow- street, June 18. Stolen from the person, on 14th instant, at lieathfield :— a silver English lever Watch, cream- coloured face, supposed No. 5422, maker's name not known, steel Guard with 4 Keys attached; also a brown leather Purse, and a leather Bag, containing £ 4 10s. in Gold and Silver. Information to Mr. Supt. Waghorn, Deputy Chief Constable, HAILSHAM, Sussex, — Bow- street, June 18. Stolen from the person at Hyde Road, Gorton :— a silver lever Watch, full plate, jewelled in 4 parts, open faoe, with dome, engraved with name ' Joseph Mitchell,' Liverpool, No. 552. Stolen from the person at Openshaw, at 3.15 p. m. 9th inst.: — a Half Sovereign, by a woman. Information to the County Police Office, Old Trafford, Man- chester.— Bov- street, June 18. Wanted on a charge of robbery from the person with violence at Ince, on 14th instant:— a man, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark moustache, clean shaved ; dressed in a short black worsted cloth coat, no laps over pockets, light corduroy trousers, black velvet cap with knob on top, and clogs which fasten with brass clasps. Information to County Police Office, PEIVBERTON.— Bo w- street, June 18. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, between 11 p. m. 19th and 5.30 a. m. 20th instant:— a woman's cotton printed Jacket, blue, red and white check, the blue stripes heavier than the red or white, collar to neck of same material, and cross bands round the bottom, white linen covered buttons down the front; a black, red and white plaid wcoilen shoulder shawl; a large woollen shawl, broken plaid, colours black, red, white aud brown. Entrace effected by pushing back the window catch, opening the window and reaching the articles ' with the hand from off a chair near the window. In- formation to Mr. 8upt. Holland, County Police Office, BOLTON, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 22. Committed for trial at the ensuing Sessions for War- wick, on 3rd proximo, charged with liotisobreakinir:— HENRY WESTON, a tramp, a native of Birmingham, 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, very thick, brown moustache, grey eves ( large and restless), marks— htrfte scar inside of calf of left leg. burn mark on right buttock, several large warts on right forefinger and thumb, one tooth only in the front of upper jaw; dressed in an old brown shooting jacket, dark plaid vest, and cord trousers, all old and dirty ; states ho is a brass caster bv trade, but has been tramping about chiefly in the Midland Counties, for some time past; he has been convicted at Bir- mingham, for felony, the last time being January, 1880, Sess., sentenced to 3 months li. J. ard 1 year's police supervision. A tramp is still wanted for being concerned in the case cf housebreaking, upon which the man above, described stands committed :— he is about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inc. high, brown hair, slight whiskers and moustache, stout build; dressed in an old blue tibbed jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, black hard felt hat, - wore a red and black check scarf, tied in a sailor's knot. Information to E. Hannah, ATHERSTONE, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 22. Stolen by means of burglary, during night of 15th inst., at Kingsdown, Kent :— 5 home- cured Hams ; 5 Umbrellas, two light- coloured liandies, two brown, and one black do. ; 2 butcher's Knives ; a Steel with black handle ; a tin half- pint Pot; 2 smallfmoney Boxes ; and about £ 5 in Gold and Silver. Supposed by three men with horse and cart : one about 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in dark grey ribbed tweed coat, dark grey tight- fitting trousers, with raised seams, blue scarf, and soft black billycock bat. The others about the same age and height; one had tight- fitting dark coi d trousers. The horse, a brown cob, about 14 handsjhigh ; dark harness with crest— ahorse ( on blinkers) ; and a very high market cart, projects out in front,' painted dirty- green colour, no name upon it. Stolen from Allesley, near Coventry, by means of house- breaking. on 10th instant:— a blue cloth Coat and Vest ( recovered) ; a pair Scotch tweed Trousers and Vest, Scotch plaid, black, grey, and yellow mixture ( vest not recovered). By a man, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches hjgh, dark complexion, full dark eyes and looks under his eyebrows, black hair and small whiskers, no moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets outside, very shabby, and is wearing the stolen vest, black and white striped cloth trousers, round black hard felt hat, and heavy watertight boots, have been freshly nailed at the heels. Information to W. Frankton, LONGFORD, near Coventry. — Bow- street, June 20. Charged with housebreaking, at North Petherton, Somerset, on 14th instant, and stealing a quaniity of male and femaia Wearing Apparel:— a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, clean shaved, sunburnt, and of military appearance ; dressed in blue serge, straw hat, Oxford shoes, and, white stockings; was carrying a large bundle and an axe. Information to Mr. Supt. Jeffs, County Police Station, BRIDGWATER, Somersetshire.— Bow- s reel, June 18. Wanted at Easingwold, charged on warrant with House- breaking at Aldwark on 6th instant, and stealing a black Shooting Coat, two pockets outside with flaps, one inside left breast, bound with black braid, nearly new ; a brown single breasted fly- fronted Top Coat, dark brown lining, four bone buttons down front, four outside pockets, and bound with black braid ; a pair of grey tweed Trousers, fall fronts, lined with calico ; a dark grey tweed Vest, a grey woollen Shirt, a pink striped cotton Shirt; and a pair of light lacing Boots, with toecaps, and three or four hooks on the top of each boot, all partly worn:— THOMAS HANDLY, a tramp, 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark Irown hair, whiskew, and moustache, chaved chin, fresh complexion, and proportionate figure ; dressed in a dark grey tweed coat with cuff on sleeves, dirty cord trjusfM, grey double- peaked cap, and strong laced boots; native of Dublin ; and THOMAS McFEE, a tramp, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, also slight brownish heard and whiskers, and stoutish figure; dressed in a dark cloth coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, aud stolen Boots ; a native of Glasgow. Tney were traced to Leeds on 7th instant, at, which place they pawned tha above Shirts, Vest, aud Trousers, sold the ticket for the shirts, which were shortly afterwards re- deemed. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING5 The 3 Horses advertised in the Police Gazette, supposed stolen from Ledbury, Herefordshire, on 16th instant, are found strayed.— Bow- street, June 22. Stolen from a field at St. Ann's Road, Tottenham, during the night of 12th instant .-— two Horses, one, a brown mare, clipped trace high, 15 hands 2 iuches, A ls> branded on fore- hoofs ; the other a brown horse, 15 hands, A. 37 branded on fore- hoofs, both in good condition. Slaughtered ard stolen between 11th and lGth instant, from a meadow at Rutton- at- Hove, Kent :— 2 half- bred Kent ewe Sheep and a Lamb, skin and entrails found in a field. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, DAUTFORD.— Bow- street, June 20. Stolen from a field in Brierley Colliery, near Wednesbury Oak, Princes End, during the night of 16th instant: — a dark dapple- grey pit Ilorse, 15 hands high, 6 years old, has a scar on inside far hind leg, long mane and tail, in good condition. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longdeu, Police Station, BILSTON ; or to Sergt. Ellis, Police Station, COSELEY.— Bow- street, June 20, • Stolen from Argils Farm, Ledbury, on 16th instant.:— a cream- colour Horse, about 16 hands high, white feet and face ; a roan Mare, about ICi hands high, star on forehead ; and a bay Horse, about 15J hands high— each 4 years old, half- bred, and in good condition. Whoever will give information that will lead to the recovery of the same, shall be rewaided and all expenses paid. Information to Mr. Clarke, Argus Farm, Ledbuiy, or to Mr. Supt. J. Smith, LEDBURY.— Bm- slreet, June 20. Stolen from a field at FoxlowFarm. near Buxton, during the night of 11th instant :— a chesnut lioraw, about 15 hands high, 4 years old, small white star on forehead. .£ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving tuch information as will lead to the recovery of the horse and convic'ion of the offender. Information to Mr. Supt. Ilallam, Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derbyshire.— Bovi- street, June 18. Stolen on 15th or morning of 16th instant, from a field at Theydon Bois, Essex :— a chesnut Mare, 16 hands high, about 10 years old, strongly made, white star on forehead, two saddle marks on near side, the fetlock of one foreleg swolen, slight mark from a kick on near hind leg near the stifle, two large hocks, and in fair condition ; and a dark brown Welsh mare Pony, 12 or 13 hands high, aged, switch tail, a little shot over on one fore leg, and in fair condition. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen at Burslem, on 21st instaut:— a pair of men's strong laced Boots, newly soled ; a man's hollanu Slop, pockets on sides, white bone buttons, part worn ; a pair of well Braces and a pint tin Bottle. By a man unknown, about 27 of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, , lighr.- brown hair anil moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in black mixture jacket, moleskin trousers, and white mutller ; m i: l probably be wearing the stolen articles, as he left his boot*, & c. behind ; lie gets lodging at a house and decamps early next morning. Wanted on a warrant for stealing two silver Watches at Watford on 16th instant, one a opsn- face lever, with maker's name ' Wright' of Coventry, the other a douhle- cased English lever, out of repair :— WM. CLIFTON, about 60 jrs. of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, hair and moustache turning grey, whiskerB shaved off, very thin build ; dressed in a dark jacket and vest, dark blue tweed trousers with one pocket on hip, very old spring side boots, hard felt flat top hat, very narrow brim. States that he is a pensioner from the navv, and is now a painter, and has resided at Uxbridge, Windsor, and Harrow in Middlesex. Information to Inspector Wm. IStb instant.— a dark grey tweed Jacket,, four pockets outside, and one inside left breast, lined with black Italian cloth, speckled buttons ; a single- breasted Vest to match ; a pair of light grey tweed Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twilled calico ; a hard felt billycock fiat; and a linen staud- up Collar ; and 6s. 6d. in Money. By ti young man, 17 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, light hair, thin face, stoops a little wheu walking ; he left his own clothing behind him ; his father lives at JSTo. 1, Surrey New- road, Lambeth, aud worked at Priory- Mews, Priory- grove, Lambeth, London. Stolen at Monton, between 8" 30 a. m. and 8 30 p. m. 8th instant:— a lady's calico Night- dress, marked ' Spafford'; a lady's Combination ( white flannel), bound in front with white linen tape ; a gent's grey calico Night- shirt; a gent's - white merino pair of Drawers ; a gent's white merino Under- shirt; a white linen Table- cloth. Suspicion attached to a woman, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, light hair ; dressed in a blue cotton dress, black bonnet, with red rose in the crown, black and white plaid shawl; she is a Welshwoman, and is well known at Patricroft. Information to tho County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.— Erne- street, June 20. Wanted on a warrant for embezzlement — DAVID BUTCHER, better known by the name of David, a fly driver, 45 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high ; dressed in sleeve waistcoat, breeches and gaiters, white wrapper and low felt hat, - whiskers on side of face, shaved chin, was employed at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Virginia Water, tut left there about 3 years ago. Stolen in Windsor on 8th instant:-- 3 pairs of women's Boots, 2 pairs elastic side, one pair buttons. By a woman about 22 or 23 years of age, full face, fair complexion, hair cut shcrt behind, Piccadilly crop in front; dressed in green dress, black hat, wearing mittens, two rings on one finger, carried a sun- shade or umbrella. Stolen in Windsor on lltli instant:— a gold band Bracelet, ' Charlotte' let in in diamonds, also au inscription on the inside with date. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Clewer :— GEORGE GRANTHAM, 22 or 23 years of age, 6 feet 4 ina high, fair complexion, peculiar look with one eye, light brown hair, thin build, rather round shouldered ; dressed in white slop and light trousers. Information to Mr. Supt. Blake, Berks Constabulary, CLEWER.— Bow- sireet, June 20. Charged with embezzlement at Burton- on- Trent, on 24th April last :— EDWARD ELI WOODLEY, an insurance agent, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, sandy moustache, no wniskers, blue or greyejes, medium build, walks erect, smart appearance, a member of the Staffordshire Yeomanry, aud served in a Hussar regiment; dressed usually in very dark or black coat, tight-( ittiug striped trousers, dark cloth vest, wide brimmed hard felt liar, which he wears on back of his head, drab over- coat ; he is accompanied by his wife, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, medium figure ; also his child, a girl about 4 years of age ; he lived at 21, Stamford- street, Leeds, from June, 1881, to Jan., 1882, he has also been at < lliester. Stolen from the Sea Farm, Ledbury, on 12th instant :— a chain Trace, a, piece of back Chain, 2 gate Hooks., a Hop Sheet, marked ' J. S. L' with red paint, a 4- bushel Bag, aud a Hop Sack. By a man and woman, tramp?, with two children, who sleep in outbuildings : the mau is tall, and wears dark clothes ; the woman is ab; mt 30 years of age, aud of very dirty appearance. Myall' painted on the stern, also two Oar?, painted white, with black blades. 8y four lads, ages about 18 years, very roughly dressed in dark clothes, and lard hitter haits, one had no buttons on his coat, which was tied together with string, he is of short stature, and talks with a squeakirg voice. Description of WILLIAM GARVEY, who is wanted at Alnwick, Northumberland, upon a warrant, charged with feloniously receiving a quantity of Drapery Goods from shop boys, between 2nd April and 4th instant :— about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, clieeks a little fallen [ m, pale complexion, brown hair, light or ginger whiskeis and mcustachp. shaved on chin, and suffers a little from asthma ; an irishman, but has lived many years in Alnwick, a hawker, has a pedlar' 3 certificate in his posses- sion, granted in January la& t by Supt.
