No. 6936 FPJDAY, JUNE 15, 1883, Notice.— It ii requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addresied to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the A. rmy, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for inwrtion in the POLICE GAZETTE. . Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly;—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who ai' 8 not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post, to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. The Watch described in the Police Gazette of 8th instant as stolen from the person at Llangadock Fair on 3lit ultimo, has been recovered.— Bow- street, June 15. Supposed stolen from the person at Derby, on 4th inst. : — a silver patent lever Watch, No. 75572, white dial, black figures, steel hands, nearly new. Information to W. A. Delacombe, Lt.- Col., Chief Constable, Towu Hall, DERBY.— Bow- street, June 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Wanted at Easingwold, charged on warrant with House breaking at Aldwark on 6th instant, and stealing a black Shooting Coat, two pockets outside with flaps, one inside left breast, bound with black braid, nearly new ; a brown single- breasted fly- fronted Top Coat, dark brown lining, four bone buttons down front, four outside pockets, and bound with black braid ; a pair of grey tweed Trousers, fall fronts, lined with calico ; a dark prey tweed Vest, a grey woollen Shirt, a pink striped cotton Shirt; and a pair of light lacing Boots, with toecaps, and three or four hooks on the top of each boot, all partly worn:— THOMAS HANDLY, a tramp, 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, cliaved chin, fresh complexion, and proportionate figure; dressed in a dar k grey tweed coat with cuff on sleeves, dirty cord trousers, grey double- peaked cap, and strong laced boots; native of Dublin ; and THOMAS McFEE, a tramp, 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, also slight brownish beard and whiskers, and stoutish figure; dressed in a dark cloth coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, and stolen Boots ; a native of Glasgow. They were traced to Leeds on 7th instant, at which place they pawned tha above Shirts, Vest, and Trousers, sold the ticket for the shirts, which were shortly afterwards re- deemed. ( The Taousers and Vest have been recovered.) Information to Mr. Supt. Wright, North Biding Constabulary, HEWORTH, or to Inspector Archer, Police Station, EASING- WOLD"— Bow- street, June 15. Between 11 p. m. 6th, and 4 a. m. 7th instant, the Imperial Hotel, Malvern, was burglariously entered, and a £ 5 Bank of England Note and about £ 6 in Gold and Silver stolen therefrom :— suspicion is attached to a young man, who had lived in the hotel for nearly two years, as laundry porter, but was discharged on 20th ultimo, for attempting to commit a felony. He is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, very little hair on face, grey eyes, medium build ; generally dressed in dark or grey clothes, and wears an overcoat which reaches down to his ankles. He was sent to the ' Havannah' ship Industrial School, Cardiff, in November, 1871, for 6 years; was sen- tenced to 2 months hard labour, at Cheltenham for larceny, in January, 1879. The above articles ate marked with pawnbroker's private mark. £ 30 reward will be paid by Mr. Isaac Jones, 181, West Derby Road, West Derby, near Liverpool, for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, on application at thif^ office. St. James's School, Daisy Hill, Westhougton, was broken and entered between 9 p. m. the 4th and 9 a. m. the 5th inst., and about Is. 9d. stolen. Stolen from a bedroom at Quarlton Fold farm house, between II p. m. the 6th and 5.30 a. m. the 7th Inst., viz.:—£ 101, con- sisting of £ 65 in gold, £ 6 in silver, and 3 ten pound Bank of England notes, numbers not known. The money was said to be kept in a small tin box, under the bed wheie the owner sjept, the box was found empty in the barn adjoining. Stolen from a field at Cuddington, on 18th ultimo :— a red roan Horse, 15 hands 3 inches high, aged, short mane and tail, off forefoot swollen, no shoes on hind feet, and in fair condition. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement :— EDWARD JAMES PERKINS, late assistant clerk in the employ of the Corporation at Billingsgate Market, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin figure, long pale face, light hair and moustache, small whiskers, and dressed shabby genteel. Wanted for larceny at Neath :— WILLIAM CONOROY, a chimney sweeper, 18 to 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light hair and complexion, full eyes, hair cut close ; dressed in tweed cutaway jacket, fustain trousers, cap with peak of cloth, light shoes, rather large ; toes turn up, pimples on face and body. Description of GEORGE ELLIS, charged on warrant with embezzlement at Leamington :— 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, clean shaved ( when last seen was wearing a dark silk skull ctp extending to the neck), and lost front tooth in upper jaw ; dressed in a black frock > at, dark trousers and vest, and black silk hat. Description of GEORGE DAVIS, a, bedstead maker or colliery labourer, charged on Warrant with stealing from his lodging at Cannock, on 5th inst. : a grey cloth Jacket, pockets on hips, and lined with light coloured alpacca ; a pair of men's strong lace- up bootsj recently soled and heeled, aud a pair of woollen cord Trousers, fall fronts and narrow rib, all much worn, lie is 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, dark- brown hair, thin featuies, single, and supposed native of Birmingham ; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, brown and black striped cloth trousers, hard black felt hat and lace- up boots, or may be wearing the stolen property. Stolen on 14th instant, between 9 a. m, and 1 p. m., from a jeweller's shop, at Worthing :— a lady's small gold half- hunter Watch, plain cases with crest on back, No. 17227 ; a full- sized gold j- plate lever half hunter gentleman's Watch, No. 47033, ' Hamilton and Co.'; a large old- fashioned open- face Watch, gold dial, convex glass, horizontal English move- ment, No. 3148. Supposed by a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, auburn hair, no whiskers; dressed in long black coat, black deerstalker hat; had three rings on fingers, one gold snake with tur- quoise eyes, one gold signet with dark stone ; carried a plain ash stick. Stolen at Hastings, on 7th instant:— a gold Ring, in shape of a leaf, set with a white stone ; and two white linen shirt Frontp. By a man, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, long sandy whiskers and moustache, has lost his right leg, and walks with crutches which are painted black, wears spectacles with gilt frames, ami describes himself as an engineer ; dtessed in black frock coat, dark trousers, h jjh black hat. Wanted for stealing a silver Watch ( recovered) at Wistow on 5th instant:— THOMAS STOUKER, alias SWAVE* EY JACK, labourer, of Swavesey, Cambs, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rxther stoutly built, full face, large nostrils, dark complexion, clean shaved; has tramped a great deal about the couptry, and generally stays at low lodging- houses, he left Chatteris, Cambs, at 8 a. m. on 6th instant; dressed in drabbet jacket and trousers, the latter nearly new, daik cloth cap, no waistcoat or neckerchief. Information to Inspector Hibbius, RAMSEY, Huntingdon, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension.— Bow- street, June 13. Wanted on a - warrant, charged with embezzlement:— ALEXANDER JOHN FERGUSSON, a draper's assistant, 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, c'ark eyes, dark brown hair, stout build, and full face ; he is a Scotchman, but has friends residing at Pontypoo), Monmouth- shire, where he held a situation as draper's assistant; dressed in black ribbed worsted coat, single- breasted, single- breasted vest of the same material, dark striped trousers, black felt hard hat, and lace- up boots, been recently heeled and soled ; he has a pedlars certificate, granted in Warwickshire, 16th March, 1883, No. 113. Information to Mr. Supt. R. Hannah, Police Office, ATHERSTONE, Warwickshire. — Bow - s reet, June 13. Description of ELLEN JANE EVERITT, charged on warrant with stealing £ 40 in Gold, at Chatham, on 9th iust,: — she is 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 inchts high, fair complexion-, light hair, worn over forehead, long thin face ; dressed in black dress, black velvet tight jacket, lorg sealskin jacket, POLICE GAZETTE. June 15 b'ack straw hat, with feather. Eloped with JOHN WAGSTAFF, a deserter from the Royal Marines, about 37 yeais of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark moustache, face shaved, stout build, very thick neck; dressed in dark tweed officer'" servant's suit, crape round arm, blnck hard felt hat. Description of ROBERT 3IMPSON, groom and fly driver, charged with embezzlement:— 65 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, loDg grey hair and whiskers, bald on top of head, and stoops when walking. Absconded from Burslem on 12th instant, charged with stealing a black cloth Frock Coat, worn, pockets in skirts one ditto inside left breast, and black lining ( not recovered) : — a man, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in black hard hat, blue slop, corduroy trousers, and strong lace- up boots much worn. Information to . Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, BURRLEM.— Bow- street, June 13. Description of JOSEPH COOPER WHITE, who ab- sconded from Sheffield about the 24th ultimo, charged on warrant with converting to his own use Six Shares in the Sheffield Water Works Company, of the value of £ 400 : — he is a native of Sheffield, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, walks erect, is of smart appearance, and generally wears light tweed clothing, and a square topped felt hat. He is a stock and share broker by profession, and is well known at Chester- field, where be had an office, and to the members of the Stock Exchange in Manchester and London, to which latter place he is believed to have gone. Information to J. Jackson, Esq., Chief Constable, SHEFFIELD, who holds a warrant for hia appiehension.— Bow- street, Juut 11. Description of two men ( one uuknown), charged iwitb Fowl stealing on 31st ultimo :— First— HARRY JONES, alias SLENDER, a native of Fishponds, Bristol, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, broad shoulders, light complexion, and supposed cut over temple, which he now hides with his cap. Second— about 25 years of age, about 5 feet G inches high, and light complexion. Both dressed similarly to navvies in blue pilot clotli jackets, moleskin vest and trousers, and will no doubt seek employ ment at some Railway or Dock Works. Last seen at Ponty- pridd on 1st instant, and were then supposed to be goiDg to Bristol. One has a wart cr excrescence on the cheek near t. he eye. Both men are also charged with grievously wounding and assaulting the police. Warrants are held against them. Information to John Phillips, Head Constable, NEATH.— Bow- st., June 11. Description of WM. RED3HAW, charged by warrant with Stealing £ 3 10s. at West Thurrock, Essex, on 17th ult. : — he is 41 years of age, but looks older, about 5 feet 4 inches high, slight build, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, and no whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth cap with peak, and has a knob on top, black clotli pilot jacket, generally wears a blue Guernsey under jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, heavy lace- up boots, and is a brickmaker. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, BRENTWOOD, or to Inspector A Her, GRAYS, Essex.— Bow street, Juae 11. Absconded from Appleby, Westmorland, on or about 16th April last, charged on warrant, that he being the bailee of a silver Watch, did fraudulently convert it to his own use, thereby did feloniously steal thej^ ame :— THOS. STAIN3BY, alias LISTER and STONES, a watch maker, native of Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, 45 years of ago, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, no whiskers, small beard ou chin, lie was convicted at Durham Sessions 18th October, 1875, and sentenced to three calendar months for a similar offence, lie is well known in Middles- brough. Information to the} County Chief Constable, CAR LISLE, or to Mr. Supt. Spencer, APPLEBY, Westmorland, who holds warrat for liis apprenhension.— Bow- street, June 11. Description of ANN HUNT, wanted for stealing Wear- ing Apparel, Bedding, & c. ( recovered), where she had been as housekeeper for ten days, and left on 23rd ultimo :— she is a native of Codnor, or Rip'ey in Derby, and is about 5G years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, slender build, sallow com- plexion, dark short hair, which she usually wears in a worsted net; dressed in a black crape bonnet, old black faded shawl, black dress, and laced boots ; she is very fond of drink, smokes a shoit clay pipe, and is genarally tramping about the country. Information to Mr. Supt. Carline, County Police Office, CHESTERFIELD, who holds a warrant for her arrest.— Bow- stnet, June 8. Wanted for stealing a pair of tweed Trousers ( new), man's siza ; a tweed Vest ( mush worn) ; a silver consolar Geneva Watch, No. 24604, with long silver Chain attached ; and about 16s. in Silver and Copper Money :— a maD, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark Irown hair, and moustache ; has a scar near right ear, and birth mark ( potatoe) on left arm ; he is dressed in a dark diagonal cloth oat and trousers to match, low shoes ( much worn), and is a tailor. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, PERSHORE, or to Sergeant Ganderton, EVESHAM, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, June 8. Wanted at Derby, charged on a warrant with stealing, on 1st instaut, £ 2, the Monies of the Trustees of the Indepen- dent Order of Rec'- abites :— SIMEON MEADS, from 40 to 50 years of ave, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate build, large nose, pale complexion, very round shouldered, large light bmliy whiskers and moustache, inclined sandy, turns his toes out when walking, is a labourer or engineman, has been in America, and was form » rlv a sailor. May probablv visit the west of England, Information to the Chief of Police, TUN BRIDGE WELLS.— Bow- street, June 15. Wanted under Warrant, on a charge of obtaining Money by false pretences, on 29th ult. :— J. THORPE, between 60 and 60 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, hair, moustache, little whiskeis, all nearly white, stout figure of gentlemanly appearance ; diessed in black frock coat, much worn, black vest and trousers, and high black silk hat. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Silvesler, Police Station, WORTHING.— Bow- street, June 13. Charged with fraud :— P. McGWIRE, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, clean shaved; diessed in black frock coat, § dark trousers, bowler hat; had the appear- ance of a Roman Catholic priest, shabbily dressed ; applies to Catholics, representing himself as collecting for a new church at Nock, Ireland. Information to the Chief Constable, CARNARVON.— /> street, June 13. Wanted, under warrant, on a charge of Fraud, on 4th inst.:— a man who gave the name of TOM DAVIES, JOHN BRADLEY, & c., about 55 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, rather stout build, fresh looking, whiskers sidoof face turning grey, blue marks on right side of forehead and nose, scar on arm, first and third fingers and elbow fractured, scar on shin and knee ; on left side blue spot on arm, third and fourth fingers broken, mole on shoulder, loBt four upper front teeth, waiks lame and has the sole of one boot thicker than the other; wore blue pilot jacket, vest and trousers, black billycock hat, and paisley muffler tied in sailor's knot. Had 5 years' penal servitude for fraud, 2nd January, 1877, after 6 previous con- victions. His plan is to go to beerhouses and state lie is fore- man stoker at the gas works, tliat the men are going to have a supper, and he has to make arrangements for it; he gives the order and then says lie has left his purse at home, borrows money and absconds. Is wanted in Staffordshire for similar offences. Information to William Sheasby, Chief Constable, MACCLESFIELD.— Bow- street, June 11. Wanted by warrant for fraud :— HENRY GEORGE HAYES, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, thin sharp features and lips, dark brown hair, chin shaved, small whiskers, liaggered or care- worn appearance, and of gentlemanly address. Stated that he was a butter merchant from LondoD, commencing business in this city. He presented himself at the Consolidated Bank Limited, King- street, Manchester, on 26t. h ultimo, and requested to be allowed to open au account, at the same time depositing £ 50 in cash, and two Bank Cheques, one for £ 96 12s. on Lloyds Banking Co. Ld., Wolverhampton, other on Stamford Spalding and Boston Banking Co., Northampton, for £ 83 10j. 6d. The Cheques are found on inquiry to be worthless. He also gave references in Manchester, which were found to be false. He thereby obtained a Cheque Book on the Consolidated Bank, Numbered 8925 / 1 to 892600, which he will no doubt use to commit other frauds.
