Notice.— It it requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, • of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwardod to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid; otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rowards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PEISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolitioc of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Oa 12th instant the Dead Body of a newly- boru female Child, unknown, was found on the road by the river Waveney, opposite the Burgh Cement Woiks. The hody was wrapped up in a piece of a man's old duffel coat aud a piece of old sack, tied up with a piece of old rop?. It was supposed to have been in the water .- everal days. The jury returned their verdict—' That the Child had been found dead on the marsh or pond, having been washed there by the tide, but how the Body got into the River there was no evidence to show.' Information to Mr. Supt. Riches, LODDON, Norfolk. — Bow- street, May 23. Absconded from Rockland- St.- Mary, Norfolk, ou 12th ultimo, charged under a warrant with the manslaughter of Elizabeth, his wife: — JOHN ROWLAND, of RocUxnd, brick and pipe maker, 50 year3 of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout build, brown hair, blue or grey eyes, and pale complexion ; dressed in black felt hat, black cloth coat, beverteen trousers, and white guernsey. Address of friends : he has one brother, named Edmund . Rowland, living at Cross Mount, near Whitby, supposed working in the mines ; ali o a brother, a fireman, on the North Eastern Rail way, at Middles- borough ; and one living at Wimblington, near March, in the Isle of Ely. Rowland will most likely apply for work in brickyards. Information to Mr. Sdpt. Riches, LODDON, Nor- folk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bov>- street, May 23. Whereas about 12 o'clock on the night of 12tli instant, some person or persons did feloniously shoot with intent to kill Mr. Christopher Curry, of Thorp Thewles, butcher, whilst driving home on the Durham highway from Stockton market. This is to give notice, that a Reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person other than a person belonging to the Police Force in the United Kingdom who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the person or persons who were guilty of the attempt of murder ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of ner Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually attempted the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Stolen from the person at Belle Vue Gardens, between 9 and 10 p. m., 17th instant:— a silver lever hunting Watch, white dial, maker's name— James Houghton, 138, Scotland- road, Liverpool; No. 3079; and has ' Thos. Stolen from the person at Farnworth between C and 8' 30 p in., 18th instant:— a silver lever centre seconds skeleton Watcb, No. 59426. Stolen from the person while attending the Athletic Sports at St. Albans, on 14th instant:— a double case hunt- ing silver Geneva Watch, with blue enamel figures on the case, No. 1455. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Polioe Office, ST. ALBANS.— Bow- street, May 18. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from a lock- up shop between 9 p. m. 22nd and 8' 30 a. m. 23rd instant:— about 800 silk Pocket- hankerchiefs, of various colours, figured, some with joakey's cap, horse- shoe, and whip; about 2 dozen woollen and union Shirts, men and boys' size, marked inside neck ' m/' E ' and ' 0/ 0'; some of the Shirts are striped red on grey ground, white on grey ground, others have dark stripes on light ground, and the remainder are black and white check ; also about £ 1 10s. in Silver. Entrance effected by breaking a skylight window over the back part of the shop. Suspicion is attached to two men ( in company with a prostitute)— first, about 21 years of age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, slender build ; dressed in dark worsted suit ( round jacket). 2nd about 27 or 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 5 or C inches high, dark complexion, dark mous- stache, square shoulders, proportionate build ; dressed in dark clothes. Behind the shop was found an old white flannel singlet, old white cotton shirt with blue narrow stripe, aud old white cotton socks, and it i3 supposed that the thief or thieves are wealing grey socks with peach stripes round them, a3 some few pairs are missing from the shop. Stolen by means of housebreaking in Manchester, on 12th instant:— a pair of gold Ear- rings, square pattern, with a diamond in centie and a number of small ones around ; a pair ot small round gold Ear- rings, somewhat resembling buttercups ; a pair of gold ftinge Ear- rings, fringe partly broken off ; a round gold Brooch, imitation of sunflower, with place for photo at back ; a lady's gold Watch, damaged, and without glass and fingers ; a gold Locket, with anchor and cable on one side, and engraved on the other ; a gold Locket with ornament resembling 3 buckles and straps on both sides ; a long gold Chain ; a gold Chain with Charms attached, one of which is a small Locket with rose on blue ground ; an old- fashioned gold Albert Guard with Seal attached ; a small gold Ring, with initials ' A. A O.' engraved on dark stone ; a gold Ring, set with opal in centre, and small brilliants and rubies around ; a gold Ring, set with ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst— ruby and diamond representing ' Regard' a gold Ring, set with pearl and emeralds; a gold Ring with two rows of pink coral; a silver Brooch and Ear- rings to match, square pattern, with Japannese figures of birds and spray on each ; a pair of round silver Ear- rings with knob in centre ; 9 pocket Handkerchiefs, marked ' C. E. S.'; a pocket Cork- screw ; two pocket Corkscrews with knife ; a green velvet smoking Cap with tassel; and a blue velvet smoking Cap. A reward of £ o will be paid by the owner on recovery of the property ( or in proportion to the amount recovered), and conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen at Tunstall on the night of ISth instant, by means of burglary :— a man's dark brown mixture cloth suit Coat, reefer, dark, and blue and white lining ia back and sleeves respectively, pockets on hipsjwnh flap?, do. outside left breast, no flap, and black bone buttons ; Vest, single- bieasted with collar, blue and white striped lining, and dark bone buttons ; Trousers, fall fronts, and dark bone buttons ; all nearly new, value 70s. Also a woman's dark grey Shawl, much worn, value Is. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, Police Station, TUNSTALL, Stoke- on- Trent.— Eow- etreet, May 21. Stolen by means of housebieaking, between 7 a. m. and 9 pm, on 17th instant, at Cilcen :— a silver- plated Teapot, of the old Queen Ann pattern, straight sides and striped, flat bottom, with ivory nob on lid. Between 11 p. m. 18th, aud 4 a. m, 19th instant, the dwelling- house of George Collier, Colton, near Rugeley, was burglariously entered by the back kitchen window, aud the following property stolen :— a woman's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with braid, pockets on hips ; a prir of white cotton Sheets; about four or five white cotton Pocket- handkerchiefs; about six yards of Shirting ; four yards of white Calico ; about seven white linen Collars, size 14 ; three baby's white cotton Petticoats ; two women's white Night- dresses, with edging round neck ; two women's white fltnuel Petticoats ; a brown leather Purse, with elastic band ; £ 6 in Gold ; and 5s. in Silver. Supposed stolen from a field at Eoville Common, during the night of 20th instant:— a gr? v faced Ewe Sheep, Scotch breed, holes cut in ears, and suckling, with lamb. The dark blue roan cart Mare, stolen from a stable at Swanscombe, Kent, and advertised iu Police Gazette of 15th instant, has not been recovered. The owner, Mr. Dixsoii Tread well, Court Lodge Farm, Southfleet, now offers a reward of ,£ 10 for the recovery of the Mare and conviction of the offender. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen on 14th instant, from the Fleece Hotel; Darlington : — a bay Mare ( recovered). By a man, who sold the Mare at Darlington Fair on same day, and received in payment a £ 20 Bank of England Note, and a Sovereign, supposed to be a native of the North, and has worked in Newcastle, and other parts of Northumberland, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuchcs high, fresh complexion, light coloured hair, side whiskers and moustache, shaves on chin, proportionate figure, shoulders rather broad, is a groom ; dressed in a grey jacket, two pocketi outside and a ticket pocket, one inside breast, grey trousers and vest, trousers too long for him, and were turned up at bottoms, blue tie and white coliai corduroy cap with double peak ; he may be found at race meetings, fairs and sales. Williams, WINCANTON, Somerset— Bow- st., May 21. Stolen during the night of 13t?- i instant, from a field at Leacroft, near Cannock : — a wether Limb, about 50 lb. weight, black legs and face, and tail cut. Boatmen are suspected. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWNHILLS, Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, CANNOCK, near Stafford.— Bow- street, May 18. Absconded, charged with stealing 2 Horses at Hammer- smith, on ISth ultimo :— THOS. LOADER, 40 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair ( bald top of head) whisker?, and mous- tache, large teeth, slightly in- kneed, and walks badly ; has the appearance of a respectable horse- dealer; formerly in business as a dairyman at Mottingham, Kent, and will pro- bably be found engaged in a similar business, and native of Sculthorpe, Norfolk. Accompanied by a woman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, sallow com- plexion, dark hair and eyes, smart appearance, good address, and is addicted to drink. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.— Metropolitan Pdice, May 18. Found at Spwkhill, on 10th instant, supposed stolen :— a dapple grey mare Pony, aged, 10J hands high, very short tail, collar wound on near shoulder. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, ACOCES GREEN, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, May 18, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of WM. BROWN, of Wood Street. Willen- hall, keysmitb, who absconded on 21st instant, charged on warrant with stealing a Sovereign:— about 21 years of age, 5 feet Gi inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair and very slight light beard, no whiskers or moustache, blue eyes, medium build, walks very erect, and is single ; dreEsed ia hard billycock hat, light tweed jacket with very narrow sleeves, and has a triangular piece of cloth same colour let in at the - wrists, and dark woollen cord trousers. He has been of late talking of going to Coventry, and that 14 men were wanted at some Bicycle Works there. Is called a, ' rough- filer' in the key trade; he also knows a man named Trubshrw, who is said to be. employed at the Bicycle Works at Coventry, at which place Brown is likely to be found. Longden, BILSTON, or to Mr. Inspector- Cook, WILLENIIALL.— Bow- street, May 25, Stolen between C p. m. 21st and 6 a. m. 22nd instant, from a house iu course of erection on the Woodstock- road, Oxford : — 4 bricklayers' Trowel*, large ; 4 ditto ditto, email : 3 spirit, Lsvels ; ( a large Trowel and a spirit Level recovered). By a mau who called there for work on 21st instant, between 40 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, has a bandage or plaster round his head, very sharp features, he* vy sandy beard; dressed in a soft white hat, brown mixture jacket, and dark jacket under ; a very plausible manner. Slept at Kidlington on the night of 21st instait. The Tools are the property of J. Johnson, F. Johnson, T. Webb, J. Halfacn, and G. Wanted, charged with stealing 2 Sheep- skin a ( recovered): -— a man, about 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slight I uilt, very dark complexion, long black hair, and black beard, cropped abort, mixed with grey, has the appearance of a foreigner, and small narrow features ; dressed in an old grey cloth coat, old cloth cap, and old cord trousers, cairies an olel bag uuder his arm, and stays at common lodging- houses, states that h « belongs to Cornwall. Descriptroa of CHARLES BARRELL, late of March Railway, fiieman, charged with stealing a black corded, or diagonal cloth Overcoat, single breasted, with flyover button- holes, has dark check lining, ticket pocket, breast pocket and two other outside, a church service was in one pocket with ' M. Corby, Wisbech Road, March,' written inside be is a native of Cambridge, 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins high, rather dark complexion, pimples ou face, dark hair and small moustache; dres » ed in a suit like the stolen coat, brown felt hat, and supposed low leather Shoes, with toecaps and ribs stamped acioia the fronts. Stolen from the Temperance Hotel, Malvern, on 17th instant:— a pair of men's brown tweed Trousers and Vest, quite new ; a pair of female's oxford Shoes, recently soled, with tips on heels, nearly new ; a black cashmere Jacket, with velveteen back and bugle trimmings; a black Bonnet, trimmed with crape ; and a large packing Strap. Supposed by a girl - who had been servant for about five ' weeks, and who left without giving any notice ; she is about '.' 3 years of age, 6 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow complexion, flat nose appears to have been broken some time, upper lip projects very much, d « rk brown hair, very dark eyes, and stoutish figure ; dressed in black dress, and the stolen bonnet and jacket ( having left her hat behind), she had a dark brown uleter with hood at t. he back in her possession). She stated she had been a prostitute in London, but she was taken to a Home by a lady in Loudon. The name ' Elizabeth Mannell' was found ou oire of the garments she left at the hotel. Description of ARTHUR THOMPSON, charged with stealing £ 7, at Brighouse, on 19ih instant :— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, ordinary build, fresh complexion, brown hair, aud small ( lurk moustache ; dressed in a black cloth coat, high crowned black felt hat, mixture trousers, aud laced clogs, attends race meetings, and will probably be at Epsom and Doucaster this week. Stolei. between 11 and 11 45 pm. 20th instant at Eastrick : — a small Box, containing £ 2 10s. in Gold ; a Spa. de Guiuea ; and a Waltham silver lever Watch, with steel altiert attached. Supposed by a youth, 17 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fresii complexion, grey e^ es, brown hair, aud scar tin back of head ; dressed iu black worsted Jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, aud lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Carr, West Riding Constabulary, HALIFAX, Yoikshire.— Bow- street. May 23. Absconded about 3 p. m. 15th instant, stealin" £ 1300 :— SEMMY , T. BLUMLEIN, ac'erk, about 19 years of age, but looks mnch older, 6 feet 74 or 8 inches high, proportionately built, black hair, dark moustache, no beard, oval features, sallow complexion, walks with a swinging gait; wore when last seen, a dark cloth cutaway coat, dark trousers, aud black billycock tat ; he is a German, and belongs to Frankfort- on- the- Maiue, but speaks French and Euglish, aud has been in America. The money consisted of £ 400 iu Gold, oue .£ 500 Bank of Eiiglaud Note, dated Liverpool, 23th March, 1881, No. 58435, and eight £ 50 Bank of Eugiaud Notes, dateo Liverpool, 24th March, 1881, Nos. 37258 to 372C5 inclusive. He will endeavour to go abroad. Please cause every possible enquiry to be made at hotels, shipping offices, on board of outward- bound vessels, and if found arrest, or if traced telegrauh to Ge wve Williams, Chief Supt. LIVERPOOL.— Bow- street, May 21. The man described in Police Gazette of 30th nit., wanted for Fowl stealing at Bui'dwas, Stlop, has not yet been appre- hended :— his name is THOMAS UODGKI3S, aud a war- raut is issued for his arrest.
