Wotic*.— It ii requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tl » e Signature of the person requiring or lending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, tha Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to the Editor UltD&£ be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from tho Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. < 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be Bigned or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return cf the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Wanted oh a warrant, for forgery :— ELIZABETH STANFIELD, otherwise HOLE, of Bath, 66 years of age, short, very stout build, and has several moles on face. And HARRIETT ELLIS, of Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, about 60 years of age, short, rather stout build. Would both be dreased in mourning. They are sisters ; Mrs. Ellis has two daughters ( Hannah and Harriett), nurses at the Fever Hospital, Liverpool- road, Islington. Information to Col. R. T. Gwyn, Chief Constable, BATH. — Bow- sired, Ma" ch 21. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at Brighton from the person on^ 26th instant:— an old fashioned double cased gold Watch' ( large size), maker's name ' Skinner, Exeter,' and marked;' 18' inside of cases ; a silver English lever hunting Watch, maker's name ' Nicholson, Brighton,' No. not known, has a dent in outside case ; a silver Watch, lias a small dent in centre of outside case ; a silver lever Watch, maker's name ' Lasseter, Arundel'; a silver lever Watch, engraved on outside cases ' It. Stolen from the person at Atherstone, on 19tli instant during the time the procession of Sanger's Circus was pass- ing :— a gent's open face gold lever Watch, No. 12280, 14 size, Coventry make, engine- turned case, enamelled dial, gold hands, jewelled in 6 holes, sunk seconds, compensation balance, with the initials ' W. R.'; 3 gold Solitaires and Studs; 3 gold Rings ; » gold watch Chain ; a silver Bracelet; a silver Locket and Chain, silver, monogram ' E. J. B.' and likeness inside ; silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' S. Stolen by means of housebreaking on 21st instant:— a lady's gold lever Watch, number unknown, gold dial, steel hands, engine- turned ; a lady's gold dress Ring, set with opal stone, small diamond in centre; 2 silver Bracelets, engraved, and a sealskin Purse, much woru, lined with blue leather, containing £ 2 in Gold. Information to Supt. Walker, Police Station, ASTON.— Bow- street, March 27. During the evening of 24th instant, the dwelling- house 51, Hope- road, ; Sale, was broken aud entered by a man, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, dark monkey jacket, and round hard billycock hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Leighton, County Constabulary, ALTRINCHAM. — Bow- street, March 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Heaton Chapel, during the absence of the family, between 3 and 9 45 p. m. 17th inst.: — a dark brown sealskin Jacket, lined with brown qnilted satin, two pockets inside at the front; and a square dark calfskin Purse, steel clasps all round, gold pocket inside and two open ones. £ 2 reward will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the property and the apprehension of the thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, near Manchester.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen by means of burglary on 15th instant, at Hill Top, West Bromwich :— a pair of men's block front Boots, size 7, part worn, mended on one solo, elastic in one boot shorter than the other, and has been sewn by hand ; a man's old check Oxford Shirt, which has been newly sleeved with a blue material ; a Turkey red Handkerchief, and a long wool knitted Muffler. By a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, no beard or whiskers, fresh red face ; dressed in dark cloth cap with peak, black jacket, mole- skin trousers and vest, and had the appearance of a navvy. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, WEDNESDDRY, or to Sergeant George Given, HILL TOP, West Bromwich.— Bovj- street, March 21. Description of two men, wanted at Old Trafford, for attempting to break into a house at Gorton, ou llth instant: — first about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sandy whiskers, stout build; dressed in black tweed frock coat, and black billycock hat; second about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build ; dressed in dark tweed suit, coat has two pockets at the side ; they can both be. identified. Information to the County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Man- chester.— Bow- street, March 21. Stolen in Brighton, by means of house- breaking :— 1 silver butter Knife with ivory handle. 1 old silver table Spoon, with initials ' J. M. C.' 2 silver Spoons, supposed with initial ' C.' 2 silver dessert Spoons, with initial ' C.' 6 odd silver tea Spoons, two of them supposed to have initial ' C.' 4 plated Forks. 2 plated dessert Spoons. 1 plated table Spoon. 1 plain gold Ring with hair and initials ' E. C.' 1 Locket with initials ' A. CY 1 small Neck Chain. 2 small gold Lockets, one has ' Sargeant' on back. 1 long Brooch, set with dark stones and hair in centre, supposed ' J. C.' on back. And about £ 6 in Money. Information to James Terry, Chief Constable, BRIGHTON.— Bow- street, March 21. MORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Drayton Bassett, near Tam worth, between 4 p. m. 25th and 2 p. m. 26th instant:— a yearling wether Sheep, Shropshire bleed, black face aud legs, with red raddle mark on top of rump. Information to Inspector Strettoc, Police Station, TAMWORTH.'— Bow- street, March 30. Charged with stealing a black Pony ( clipped), 12 or 13 hands high, very thick mane, limps on bind leg ; a set of brass- mounted Harness, and a small tilted Van, painted dark green, wheels lead colour, the property of ' Charles Beaton, coal merchant and carrier, Portfield', whose name was painted on a board attached to off side:— CHARLES MAY, alias MILL YARD, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, brown hair, full whiskers and moustache ; generally wears a dark overcoat. Took his wife and six children, also some " household goods with him, and was traced to Farehani, which he left on Sunday evening, at 5 p. m., with pony and van, his wife and children not being then with him. infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Clarke, County Police Station, CHICHESTER, who holds a warrant.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen from Northstead Farm, CheMeld, Kent, about 9 p. m. on 20th instant:— 3 fat wether teg Sheep, West Down breed, marked ' D ' in a circle with a coronet above in black paint or varnish. Three men with a grey pony and small dark colour square cart, with the name ' Thomas Baker, potatoe dealer, Deptford ( or Dartford),' were seen hovering about the neighbourhood several hours on the afternoon pre- vious : one man, the principal, is said to be about 40 years of age, medium height, stout build, no whiskers, and swarthy complexion ; dressed in a greyish waterproof or short ulster, low hard felt hat, and blue and white Bilk neckerchief ; one was a tall elderly man, and the other was younger than the first described. Supposed stolen from an orchard adjoining the Prest- wcod Road, Kingswinford, during the night of 17th inst. :— 2 small dark grey faced Ewes ( 2 years old), marked ' I. P.' in black paint on side ; also 2 very small Lambs. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, BUIERLEY HILL, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 22. Stolen from a field at Midsomer Norton, on the night of 12th instant :— a dark bay male Pony, about 13 hands high, age 4 years off, short tail, rough coat, a little white on one hind foot. Information to Sergeant Tucker, Somerset Con stabulary, MIDSOMER NORTON, Bath.— Bow- street, March 22. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT WILLIAM PRESCOTT; alias BRAGG, advertised in Police Gazette of 2nd ultimo, as wanted for Fowl stealing, at Horwich, has been apprehended and is now in custody.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen on 27th instant:— a half- hoop diamond Ring, set with 5 stones. By a man and woman who went into the shop to look at some rings and abstracted the Ring described, and left a paste one in its place. The woman is about 55 years of age, tall and very stout; dressed in black. The man is about the same age, not so tall as the woman, slight build, slightly pockmarked ; dressed in an overcoat and high hat. Both of very genteel appearance. Information to Jamoa Terry, Chief Constable, Police Office, Towu Hall, BitiOFm.'. N.— Bow- street, March 30. Further information respecting GEORGE HARRISON, who absconded from Stokesley on 9th January last ( adver- tised in Police Gazette Januaiy 26), charged on a warrant with lareeuy as a bailee of a gold Watch ( recovered) :— he is a clock aud watch maker, about 40 years of age, about 6 feet high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, bald on top of head, long visage, slender build, respectable appearance, and good address; was seen at Newcastle- upou- Tyne and Gates- head on 17th instant; and was then dressed in long dark overcoat, dark tweed suit, and black soft billycock hat ; was carrying a small black leather bag and a walking- stick ; most likely to be found lodging at some public- house, beer- house, or eating- house. Information to Mr. Supt. Hutchinson, North Riding Constabulary. SOUTH STOCKTON, or to Acting Inspector Robert Stones, Police Station, STOKESLEY, via Northallerton, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen at Skelmersdale at 7 a. m. on 26th instant:— a pair of men's elastic sidt Boots, with toecaps, size 6, had several protectors on heels aud soles, also a pair of men's black [ ai. d grey woollen Socks, knitted by hand, in rings. By a man aoout 21 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, small moustache, no whiskers, has a beard of about a weeks growth, and is rather round shouldered ; dressed in dark grey coat, moleskin or corduroy trousers, cap, and strong lace- up boots, far worn. Has worked in Skelmersdale as a drawer for about 6 weeKs, and is supposed to be wanted at West Leigh, under a warrant for beu\ g drunk aud riotous. Information to the County Police Office, ORMSKIRK.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen from the Officei's Quarters, Royal Marine Bar- racks, Stonehouse, Devon, on 20th instant :— a silver keyless half hunting Watch, No. 17187, lever escapement, and compensation balance, with initials ' B. L. H.' engraved on the back; a silver English lever Watch, open face, white dial, No. 27564; a gold hunting Watch, No. 5219, with silver chain, broken horse - shoe at the end of chain ; a goli signet Ring, with blood stone iu centre, crest on ring, bull's head, with wings rising out of waves ; a set of green Studs, very old fashioned pattern of a four leaf shamrock ; a set of pearl Scuds, in a black case ; a. set of gold Studs of ordinary make, and £ 3 in Gold and Gi. in Silver. Supposed stolen by a young man who was seen iu the quarters, currying a black leather bag, about 18 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light hair, in- clined to curl'; dressed in a light brown cutaway coat, and low hard hat, had the appearance of an errand boy. Buitton, Devon Constabulary, STONE- HOUBE.— Bow- street, March 27, Stolen from No. 1 Hut, Lanwddyn Waterworks, on 22nd instant:— a valuable pale blue Shetland Shawl By a man aud woman who lodged at the hut, and left at 4 a. in.: the man is from 32 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, long face, long light moustache, scar ou nosa from fighting; dressed in a dark cloth shooting jacket, white moleskin trouser* and vest, and black billycock: hat ; tha woman is about 18 years of age, and very stout; dressed in black cloth jacket trimmed with fur, dark green dress, black hat trimmed with scarlet flower, and old lace- up boots. ' 2 P O L I C E GAZ ETTE March 16 Wanted, for larceny of a Watch, at Canstead ( reco- vered) :— a tramping miller, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light hair, moustache, and whiskers on chin, slender build, very bad on his feet; dresssd in light drabbett trousers, tweed undercoat, part of left skirt oft, which he said had been burnt, dark short cloth overcoat, and cloth cap without peak. He will seek employment at flour mills, and ask to dress the stones if no other work ; a native of Sussex. Information to Mr. Supt. J. Burniston, East Riding Constabulary, SPROATLEY, Hull.— Bow si, March 27 Charged with embezzling £ 1 16s. at Newton, on 17th instant:- WILLIAM HENRY BROWN, a baker, about 20 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket and waistcoat, drab lord trousers, soft felt hat, and blucher shoes ; supposed to have a scar on the back of his neck, caused from the bite of a horse ; has talked a gieat deal about Nottinghamshire and Manchester, where he has worked at his trade. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Superintendent Joseph Anker, Wisbech, ISLE OF ELY.— Bow- street, March 27. Absconded from Adelaide on 13th January last, charged with embezzlement :— WALTER FIIASER SHIER, a clerk, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, short; left steam ship ' Chimboraze' at Naples on 21st ultimo, and will probably make his way to England. Warrant isiued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.— Metropolitan Pi lice, March 27. Stolen at Peterborough, on 23rd instant :— a double- breasted dark grey chesterfield Overcoat, two breast pockets, one inside and one outside, two pockets on hips and a ticket pocket, black covered buttons, black mohair lining ; a pair brown calf skin Gloves, a white cashmere Muffler, a white ground silk Handkerchief ; a brown morocco leather Purse, steel fastened by two small steel knots, contained 4 sovereigns, 16 shillings ( one a Lion shilling), and other small coins. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, blotche- i face, brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers; dressed in dark shabby clothes, frock coat, deerstalker hat, new laced boots ; supposed to be a Scotch- man and has the appearance of a quack doctor. Information to J. Hurst, Head Constable, PETERI. OROUGII.— Bow- street, March 27. Stolen at Longsight, between 3 p. m. and 4 p. m. on 14th instant :— a blue, white and red striped cotton Shirt, new sleeves of same material, far worn. By a man, about 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in long black cloth over- coat, dark trousers, and rouDd pot hat. Information to the County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester. — Bono- street, March 21. Absconded from Biggleswade on 16th instant, charged with stealing a lady's gold Watch, and 3 gentlemen's silver Watches, with which he had been entrusted to repair:— a German, who gave the name of E. MEILLER, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, grey eyes ( very full), light brown hair ( turning grey). Information to Mr. Supt. Bedlow, Beds Constabulary, BIGGLESWADE, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, March 21. Description of GWEN JONES, who absconded from Llanwddyu Water Works, charged with stealing a new black alpaca Dress, and a marone jacket Bodice :— she is about 45 years of age, stout and full face ; dressed when she left in dark blue cress, black jacket, sealskin hat. She left Llan- fyllin on 13th instant, in company with her husband, Edward Jones, labourer, and four children : a boy, 18 years of age ; a girl, 15; a boy, 7 ; and a boy, 5. They had with them boxes, bedding, and a mangle ; they booked to Llanidloes, and stated they were aoing to Penarth, near Cardiff. In- formation to P. O. N. Edwards, LLANFYLLIN, who holds a warrant for her apprehension ; or to Mr. Supt. Ellis, WELSH- POOL, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, March 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Burton- on- Trent:— a pair of blue aud black striped tweed Trousers, fl/ fronts, brass button, engraved ' W. Jones,' with pockets ; a black ribbed cloth Vest, cloth buttons, usual pockets ; and a gold Albert Chain, long link pattern, geld Locket attached, con- taining two photographs. Supposed by a man ( who lodged in the house one night) about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins high, light complexion, grey hair, medium build ; dressed in dark cloth suit, shabby billycock hat, and blucher boots ; stated he was a fitter, and came from Nottingham, and is suffering from an attack of bronchitis. Information to Mr. Supt. James Gilbride, BURTON- ON- TRENT.— Bow- tt., March 21. description of ERNEST RICE, alias GEORGE RICE, chargtd with larceny of a man'j brown tweed sack Jacket, single breasted, buttons to match, brown Italian and striped lining in back and sleeves respectively, pockets on hips, do. ticket with flaps, and do. outside left breast, no flap; a black worsted Vest, single breasted, bound with black braid; and a pair of Trousers, fancy brown check pattern, fly fronts, and twill lining, all new, at Tunstall, on 12th instant:— he is a tailor, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, full eyes, slender build, skin disease iu hands, walks erect, native of Worcester ; dressed in black hard felt hat, long brown overcoat, sleeves have been lengthened, brown tweed trousers, seated, and repaired at bottoms, aud low shoes. Information to Mr. Hupt. Hall, Police Station, TENSTALL, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, March 21. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) Wanted on a warrant for Bigamy: — CHARLES THOMPSON, of St. Alban's, a painter, about 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light curly hair, very slight moustache, but little or no whiskers, rather deaf ; was last heard of, as working at his trade in some part of Manchester Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Police Office, ST. ALBAN'S.— Bow- Uree', March 30. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded from Devonport on 21st instart, charged with obtaining money and goods by false anil fraudulent pre- tences:— E. C. ROBERTSON alias CHARLES E AGLETON, alias R. WEBSTER and CAPT. ROBERTSON, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout, full face, dark hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed when he absconded in dark clothes, with low round hat, but may be wearing a suit of mixed black and white tweed, which he took with him, part of the goods he obtained, the other goods consist of Boots, a large quantity of Baby Linen and Dresaes; female Under- clothing; 2 black Gladstone Bags, one 18, the other 20 inches long, and other property. He came to this town about a month Bince and took a shop, which he fitted up as a confectioners, engaged several young women as assistants ( from one of whom he stole a gold ring, found pawned), and o>. the day before the shop was to be opened, he had the goods sent to him, and absconded with them. He went from Exeter to PuddiDgton by night mail on 2lst instant, and having no money to pay his fare, he was allowed to proceed on depositing goods with the company's servants, the fare being afterwards paid at 109, Hungerford Road, Camberwell Road, London, in the name of Webster. He has been a steward in the Royal Navy, a clerk on the Midland Railway, and it is thought he has been engaged in numerous long firm transactions. Information to John Lynn, H. C., DEVONPORT, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 28. Absconded, charged with fraud :]— CECIL HENRY COOK, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, very little ( if any) hair on face; dressed in black diagonal overcoat, silk hat, gentlemanly appearance, believed to be the son of the Rev. Jas. Cook, Peopleton Hall, Pershore, Worcestershire, lias in his possession a cheque book, numbered 004581 to 004640 inclusive, of Messrs. Glynn, Mills, Currie and Co., Lombard Street, City, which he obtained by a trick, he having no account there ; goes to tradesmen, tailors, & c., orders goods and tenders one of the cheques in payment. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, 1 S. W.— Metropolitan Police, March 28. Description of HENRY WILSON, alias HENRY HALL, wanted for obtaining money under false pretences by representing himself as gamekeeper to Lord Scarsdale, having valuable dogs for sale.
