Stolen from a dwelling- house at Tonge- with Haugh, between 1 and 2 am. 5th instant:— a Vest ( recovered), a carving Knife ( recovered), a white hafted Pocket- knife with 2 blades and a small piece of white metal, diamond pattern, on one side of the haft, in the centre ; a buuch of Keys, about 5 in number, on a split ring, and a small Key, separate from the rest; and about 30s. in Money. Description of ALFRED STEVENSON, charged on a warrant with stealing a roan cart Mare, since recovered, from S wainBthorpe, on 9th November, 1882 : — he is 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, short whiskers and moustache, rather round Bhouldered ; generally wears a light mixed suit; supposed to be in the employment of one of the Tram Car Companies, in London, as conductor. Information to Inspector Short, Police Station, WYMOXDHAM, Norfolk.— Bow- street, March 9. Stolen about 9 p. m. 23rd ultimo, from a field at St. Mary's Cray :— a brown Gelding, 15 hands high, near hind fetlock white, and ring on back ; a brown Mare, rising 5 yrs., white spot on forehead, and hind fetlocks white ; and a brown gelding Cob, rising 4 years, 14 hands high, and hind fetlocks white. Supposed by three men, of the appearance of horse dealers, who drove one of the stolen Horses in a cart, and tied their own ( a grey) behind. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of CHARLES HENRY NETTLETON, charged on warrant with stealing China :— he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 3J inches high, dark brown hair, small dark mous- tache, little side whiskers, fresh complexion, and is supposed to have a scrofula mark on neck, medium build; dressed in dark clothes, of smart appearance, well educated. Description of JAME3 8NELL, wanted on warrant, changed with stealing, on 1st instant, 10 Fowls ( recovered) in Westham : — he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, and rather long neck, hazel eyes, dark hair, full dark leard and whiskers, propor- tionate figure, has a rolling gait when walking, late of Willingdon, near Eastbourne, and a labourer; supposed dressed iu au old monkey jacket, tweed trousers and vest, black felt hat, or cap with peak and tassel on top. Waghorn, Deputy Chief Constable, HAILSHAM, Sussex.— Bow- street, March 9., Wanted on warrant for stealing on 24th ultimo, a silver Watch and a jet aud gold Necklace appendage, and an open face silver Watch, face very much scratched about :— FREDERICK ALFERFRED, aliasDEKICK WOODMAN, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair, eyes and moustache ; dressed in a dark brown suit, rather rough material, hard felt hat, turn down collar, brown necktie and elastic side boots. Has been a soldier, acd supposed now belongs to the reserve, his father resides at Knockholt, Kent. Information to Mr. A. Barnes, Supt., K. C. C., TUNBRIDGE. — Bow- sirest, Mwch 9. Wanted at Stourbridge on a charge of embezzlement:— WILLIAM HENRY SCOTT, late manager to a wine and spirit merchant in Stourbridge, who absconded on or about 14th ultimo ; he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, clean shaved, light brown hair, light grey eyes, proportionate build, a little bow- legged, a nervous and shaky appearance from excessive drinking, is very quiet when iu company, and is fond of horse- racing and betting ; generally dressed in a loose jacket, and black hard felt hat. Description of WILLIAM THETFORD, wanted, charged on warrant with stealiig at BEESTON REGIS on 26th ultimo, a silver English lever Watch, since found pledged :— he is about 24 yea- s of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, round shouldered, carries his head a little on one side, and has a slouching walk, small moustache and whiskers inclined to be sandy, is a painter, and belongs to Norwich, he is very quiet and reserved, seldom speaks to his fellow workmen, except when spoken to ; dres « ed in a long dark overcoat, grey mixed suit, low black hard hat, elastic side boots aud kid gloves. Information to Inspector Caton, Police Station, HOLT, Norfolk, or Sergeant Rix, County Police Station, NORWICH.— Bow- street, March 9. Stolen in Boston, on 3rd instant:— about 40 stonemason's lettering Tools, from 6 to 8 inches long, some have two crosses filed in them which extend from one side to the other, some have the broad atrow mark, and the remaining two or three have three slanting tile marks across them ; also a 2- foot box Rale, with a small dent ou the figure 4j ; and a 4 lb. Hammer, one end square, with a piece chipped out, and the other smaller. Supposed by a tramping mason, a cockney, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, and full beard ; dressed in a brown or grey suit, long overcoat, and black billycock ; and has a respectable appear- appearauce. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, BOSTON, Lincolnshire.— Bow- strcet, March 9. Description of WM. JOHN DA. LBY, wanted at Sheffield on a charge of embezzling £ 38, the property of the Sheffield Tramway Company :— he is 38 years of age, but looks younger, 6 feet 7 inches high, dark sallow complexion, dark browu eyes, velv darK hair, uo whiskers, dark mous- tache, slender build, and walks erect; dressed in a dark faded overcoat, light grey undercoat aud vest, dark grey mixture trousers, hard felt hat, aud laced boots. He absconded ou 6th instant, and may endeavour to leave the country. Infor- mation to Mr. J. Jackson, Chief Constable, SHEFFIELD, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boiv- street, Ma~ cb. 9. 2 P O L I C E GAZ E T T E March 16 Absconded from Poole, charged with embezz'ement :— WALTER FREEMAN, brewers traveller, 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very knock- kneed, slight build, fair complexion, rather pale, rather light whiskers, moustache, beard and hair, bald to the crown of his head, with hair on temples, has a very curious walk, rather a roll and swagger, talks with a, slight lisp, has curiously shaped under lip, wears square toed boots, with noticeable high heels, turns out his toes in walking. Has three suits of clothes with him, two of the coats Melton black cloth, trousers dark fancy pattern, one all round suit, brown tail coat ( not short one), wears a very large silver ring, embossed at the top as a shilling, on the 4th finger right hand, generally wears white cravat with silver pin, to which is attached a small silver coin. Went off in a large Inverness cape, which reaches below the knees, wears round hard black felt hats. Accompanied by a female about 26 years of age, rather tall, well made, rather nice grown, very red hair, florid complexion, generally wears a close fitting hat, trimmed with black velvet, sealskin jacket, black silk dress, silver bangles, small gold earrings. Took tickets for Waterloo by the 5 30 train from Poole on 5th instant. Infor- mation to Supt. Hunt, Police Station, POOLE, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 9. Charged with stealing a Watch in Spon- lane, West Bromich, on 2nd instant:— a man, 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate build, light complexion and hair, heavy brown moustache, no whiskers, nose aside to left, tattooed on back of left hand with cross swords, and ship on right arm; dressed in black cloth trousers, grey plaid vest, blue serge under jacket with brass buttons, dark brown cloth overcoat; stated he had been a sailor. The Watch is a silver Geneva, No. 125,689, flat flint glass face. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, Police Station, WEST BROMWICH, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 7. Wanted on a charge of stealing twelve Fowls ( recovered) at Upper Clatford, Andover, with two other men in custody, remanded till 9th instant :- GEORGE FRANKUM, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, thin built, head inclines forward and has a squeaking voice; dress when last seen, dark monkey jacket, cord trousers and ve3t, billycock hat, and a white muffler, heavy lace- up boots, trousers strapped up below knee ; native of Reading, Berks, and has the appear- ance of a navvy. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Inspector JJamea gDuke, Hants Constabulary, ANDOVER.— Bow- street, March 7. Absconded from Ben wick, Isle of Ely, on 4th instant, charged on warrant with stealing a black pilot Jacket, two pockets outside and one inside, with velvet collar and black buttons :— a man giving the name of JABEZ HORNER, a shoemaker, supposed to be a native of St. Ives, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, thin on top of head and rather long, dark whiskers and moustache, stout build ; dressed in stolen jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, black and white plaid scarf, hard felt hat, and elastic side shoes, much worn. Information to Wm. King, Inspector of Police, Police Station, CHATTERIS, Islo of Ely.— Bow- street, March 7. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing a Pig on 21st ultimo, at Coggs, near Witney, Oxon ( recovered) :— WALTER WALKER, labourer, Coggs, 18 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, pale full clean face ; dressed in a dark blue rough cloth overcoat ( small for him), rartridge cord trousers, black hard bowler bat, and lace- up boots. Might be enlisted into the Army. Information to Mr. Supt. William Wadcoat, Police Station, Witney, Oxon. — Bow- street, March 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted on warrant for fraud, at Hednesford, on 20th ultimo :— MARK LEVY, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, Mr complexion, light whiskers, hair thin on foro part of head, blue eyes, stout build ; dressed in top hat, snuff- coloured overcoat, lavender- coloured handkerchief, a scarf pin imitation of a snake, wears a ring on each hand, gold watch and chain, gentlemanly appearance; he represented himself as an agent of a firm dealing in cigarettes, at 81, Tyson- street, Back- lane, Spitalfields, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWNHILLS, or to Sergeant Whalley, Police Office, HEDNESFORD.— Bow- street, March 9 Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences:— RICHARD WILLIAMS, he produced a book, representing that he was authorised to collect money for the purpose of erecting a new church at Canton; he has also represented that he is collecting for the relief of those who are thrown out of work by the stoppage of the B'iton Ferry Tin Works. He is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, small sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a tweed suit, and black bowler hat; he has the appearance of a carpenter, is a Welsh- man, and is said to belong to Carmarthenshire. Information to Walter Hemingway, Head Constable, Cardiff.— Bow- street, March 5. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions, Norfolk, at Norwich, in April next:— GEO. THOMPSON, alias JOHN LEEKING, a navvy of Wimblington, Isle of Ely, charged with larceny of a Watch ; he is about 31 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, $ trk sandy moustache and short whiskers, stout build, very erect, grey eyes, has several small moles on front of shoulders and both breasts ; has worked on public works at Manchester, Leeds, and other places in the North of England and at Lvro. Was convicted at Wisbeaeh Quarter Sessions on 29th June, 1881, for Fowl stealing, and sentenced to 6 months h. 1. Information to Mr. Supt. Symonds, Police Station, EAST DEREHAM, Norfolk.— Bow- street, March 9. Committed to H. M. Prison, Stafford, OD 6th instant, for 1 month, for larceny, at Stone :— THOMAS MOORE, ( name supposed fictitious), 47 years of age, 5 feet < 3| inches high, fresh complexiou, dark hair, brown moustache, no whiskers, brown tuft of hair on chin, blown eyes, proportionate build, mole on left side of neck, ' I.' on left forearm, two burn marks on cheit, scar on right side of knee ; native of Man- chester, and an enginefitter by trade; dressed in tweed jacket, brown vest, dirty moleskin trousers, heavily nailed blucher boots, and old black billycoek hat; he hag been tramping the country for some time ; his photograph ean be seen on application to Detective Inspector Wheaver, Stafford. Committed to Her Majesty's Prison at Lewes, for 7 days hard labour, each under the Vagrant Act :— THOMAS POINTER, 34 years of age, 5 feet 5J- indies high, j dark complexion, dark hair and eyes, slight figure, resides at AlfretoD, single, a pedlar; dressed in light tweed coat, and brown tweed dark cloth trousers and vest. WILLIAM BROOKS, 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, slight figure, resides at Leeds, Yorkshire, single, a labourer ; dressed in dark serge jacket, light coat under, dark vest and grey tweed trousers. JAMES KING, 28 years of age. 5 feet 2i inches high, fair complexion, dark blue eyes, brown hair, sandy moustache, slight figure, resides at Croydon, single, a labourer; dressed in brown overcoat, dark coat under, cotton cord trousers, hard felt hat. This man is now wanted for stealing a silver Watch, supposed No. 554 or ; 3226, a gold Albert Chain and two Foreign Coins attached ; 2 graining Combs 1 Brooch, and 1 Birring ( not recovered).
