Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 7 p m. 24th, and 3 p. m. 26th instant, from Gloucester Villa, Chain Walk, Aston :— an alarum Time- piece, Gothic style ; a brass Image, representing the angel of life ; a blue melton cloth Overcoat; a pair of man's low Shoes, cloth ; a pair of man's low Shoes, leather ; a pair of ladies elastic side Boots ; and a navy blue Skirt, ladies. Stolen from the person at Aylesbury Steeple Chases, on 2Sth ultimo : — An open- face silver Watch, maker Margarett, Hereford, No. 12012. A silverWatch, No. 2173, gold Seal, engraved'Hugli Seymour, Comes d'Antrim,' and a gold Locket, much worn, engraved ' Slamish,' with coloured photograph inside. A silver lever Watch, No. 33.050, maker ' Dent, London.' Information at the Police Station, AYLESBURY.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen from the person, at the Waterloo Coursing Meeting :— A gold lever Watch, maker — Critchlev, Liverpool, No. 499. > ad attached a gold Albert Guard, Spade Ace Guinea, and gold Seal with a greyhound cut in it. A reward of £ 10 is offered. A silver lever Watch ( new), maker—' Brownbill,' on front of face, No. 5687. Also, a lady's gold Watch, plain gilt face, maker— Brown, Sheffield, No. 8337. Information to Mr. Supt. Jervis, County Police Office, Oitiis- JURK, or the Central Police Office, Dale Street, LIVERPOOL.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from the person, between Swinton and Pendleton, on the afternoon of 17th instant :— a roan leather Purse, with electro- plated catch, containing three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, one Sovereign, and some Silver. Stolen from the person at Patricroft, at C p. m. 17th instant: — a white Bass, containing 2 lb. of Sugar, | lb. of Currants, Potherbs, and Is. 5d. in Money. By a woman who was dressed in a dark dress, and black bonnet, and appeared to have a silver brooch in her breast. Information to the County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester— Bow- street, February 26. Between 10.45 p. m. on 22nd and 7.45 a. m. en 23rd inst., the Railway Refreshment Room, at Corwen Station, was entered and stolen therefrom, £ 3 in Gold : md about £?> in Silver. Information to Inspector Hugh Williams, CORWEN, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, February 26. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 24th instant, at Nine Elms, Heath Town, Staffordshire :— a woman's black rib cloth Jacket, with black friDge round bottom; a woman's black French merino Dress, with brass buttons on it; a woman's black Hat, with two small black feathers on ; a woman's Night- dress; two children's Night- dresses; two pairs of women's Drawers ; two Chemises; two white linen Sheets, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The five Heifers, advertised in Police Gazette of 28th ultimo, as stolen from Gailey, have beea recovered, not stolen. Bow- street, March 2. The Cart, Harness, brown Mare and mare Pony, adver- tised in the Police Gazette on 23rd instant, have been owned, and were stolen from Tottenham. The horse Pony is still unowned, and is in the possession of the Herts Constabulary at Hertford. Information to , Mr. Supt. Hyde Clarke, Con- stabulary Office, WARE— Bow- street, February 28. Left in a stable at the Red Lion Inn, Hereford, on 7th instant ( fair day), not yet owned, and supposed stolen :— a daik bay Gelding, aged, 14 hands high, brown points, white star on forehead, three white spots under saddle, and has a bad hoof on near fore leg. Information to Mr. F. Richardson, Chief Constable, HEREFORD.— Bow- street, February 28. Committed for trial at the next Borough Sessions, charged with stealing a Pony and Trap at Derby : — JOHN BARTLETT, alias LEWIS, a joiner, 34 years of age, 5 feet 4b inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, proportionate build, oval face, small scar corner of right eye, scar under right eye, large scar on right shoulder, rather flat nose ; native of Redditcb, but has lived at Birmingham and Hands^ rortb, where he is well known ; also at Nottingham, where his wife and family are now residing. Stolen from a field at Brownhills, during the night of 14th instant :— a chesnut horse Pony, 12i hands high, about 6 years old, and has its mane cut short; a dark grey ( uearly black) horse Pony, agea, 11J hands high, had no shoes on. The ponies are both in fair condition, and had ver y long and rough coat of hair on. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWNIIILLS, near Walsall.— Bow- street, February 26. Stolen during the night of 21st instant, from a Marsh near the river Thames at Longreach, Kent:— a Kent ewe Sheep, marked ' S' on off side with red paint; supposed taken away in a boat, entrails left behind. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, DARTFORD.— Bow- street, February 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of JAMES EDMUND SWEETMAN, a solicitor's clerk, charged on warrant with embezzlement:— he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very fresh complexion, hazel eyes, appear half closed, dark brown hair, small dark brown whiskers and moustache, stoops siightly wlipn walking, carries a stick in his hand, which he holds like a whip ; has an uncle living at Ryde, Isle of Wight. Absconded from Ipswich, on 16th ultimo, charged under a warrant with larceny as a bailee :— GEORGE 8ADD, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, dark eyes, thin face, and pockpitted, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ( rather thin), speaks in low tone, and Norfolk dialect; is accompanied by his wife and two children, has friends residing in Norwich, is a shoemaker ; was wearing low felt hat, brown coat and trousers, very much worn, large patches at knees. Information to H. R Russell, Lieut.- Colonel, Chief Constable, Town Hall, IPSWICH, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, March 2. Description of JOHN FITZ PATRICK, who is wanted for stealing at Quarry Bank, on 8th ultimo, three £ 5 Notes and £ 6 10s. in Gold, a Jacket, two pairs of Trousers, and an Overcoat, advertised in Police Gazette of 19th ultimo ( black cloth Jacket and Trousers recovered) about 35 yrs. of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy hair, turning grey, no whiskers, heavy sandy moustache, hazel ejes, fresh " com- plexion, high cheek bones, proportionate build, scar ou nose, brown mark on cheek, a labourer, walks erect, aud speaks with American accent. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, BRIERLEY HILL, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, March 2. Charged with embezzling £ 29 of the Butterley Coal and Iron Company, Butterley, Derbyshire:— WALTER BLAKE, coal agent, Sdston, Notts, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate build, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, oval features, dark eyes ; usually dresses in a dark brown tweed suit, and silk hat. He is well known to coal merchant! and agents in London, Bristol, Leicester, Lincoln, Sleaford, Cheltenham, aud other places. Information to Mr. Supt. Hancock, Langley Mill, NOTTINGHAM, — Bow- street, March 2. Wanted on warrant for stealing Pigeons at Burslem, on 17th instant ( recovered):— ELIJAH MOUNTFORD, collier 31 years of age, 5 feet 2| inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, stout build, bow- legged, cut over right eye- brow, blue cut on back of wrist ; dr essed in dark cloth cap with peak, pilot cloth jacket, cloth trousers, and clogs, worn and dirty. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, BLRSLEM, — jBow- street-, February 28. Stolen at Derby, on 23rd instant:— A long rough blue pilot Overcoat, single breaBted, black bone buttons, brown and black plaid, with a small blue run- ning stripe lining, a piece of pilot let in under collar inside, plain collar, man's size, and in good condition ; a lady's old gold Ring, set with 3 red stones ; and a silver buckle Ring, buckle bit'f round ( not recovered) ; also an Overcoat, a pair of Trousers, aud a Vest ( recovered), pledged about 9 a. m., ou 24th instant, at the shop of Mr. John Butters, pawnbroker, Willow Row , Derby, for 15s. 6d., in the name of Mardie, Aga. nl Street, Derby, which is false. By a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, light fresh complexion, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark clothes, and hard black hat. May be wearing the pilot Overcoat. Infor- mation to W. A. Delacombe, Lt.- Col., Chief Constable, Town Hall, DERBY.— Bow- street, February 28. Stolen from barges at Battles Bridge Wharf, Kettendon, Essex, on 26th instant :— a new pair of leather grain Boots, 8 inches high, only worn once, double tongues, nailed with galvanized iron nails, brass rivets in the waist of the boots ; and a white cotton Shirt with blue stripes ; a pair of flannel Drawers, short legs, reaching to the knees; and a pair of blue worsted Stockings, supposed to have the initials H. F.' on each; a short white flannel Shirt ; also a suit of black cloth Clothes, in good condition, the Coat double breasted and velvet collar, the words ' Yatching Jacket' on collar, the , Waistcoat double- breasted, and the Trousers large in legs. By a man from South jjBenfleet, a bargeman, who worked in barges belonging to Ellis, of Strat- ford- le- Hope, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers, and moustache ; wearing small round felt hat, long black overcoat, had a silver open- faced watch, and cable chain; he left behind a striped cotton shirt, a white flannel shirt, a pair of springside boots, a tweed jacket, which is daubed with red paint or ochre. A man answering this description, left Pitsea by 8.27 a. m. train on 26th instant. Information to the Superintendent of Police, CHELMSFORD.— Bow- street, February 28. Absconded from Hertford on 14th instant, charged with stealing a pair of man's Boots ( recovered):— ALBERT GINN, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, very fair com- plexion, thin face, long nose, light brown, hair, cut short; dressed in a black jacket, cord trousers, black cap, and lace- up boots, which appears to be too large for him. A warrant has been issued. Information to Head Constable Jarrett, Boro' Police, HERTFORD.— Bow- street, February 26. Absconded from Loftus on 16th instant, charged under a warrant with larceny as bailee :— HENRY VISSER, about 30 years of age, 5 feet I or 2 inches high, dark complexion, eyes, hair, whiskers, and moustache, fashionably shaved out at chin, slightly bald on top of head and scar across the back of it; dressed in a black worsted coat, dark brown check vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, and lace- up boots speaks with a foreign accent. May be calling in country villages for watches and clocks to repair. Information Mr. Supt. Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary, GUISBROUGH or to Inspector Thomas Allen, Police Station, LOFTUS IN - CLEVELAND.— Bow- street, February 26. Absconded from Netley Hospital, Hants, on 19th inat., charged with stealing £ 14 10s. :— a private in the 51st South Yorkshire Regiment, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9| inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, sallow complexion, born at Westbury, Wilts, and a compositor by tra<? e ; dressed in grey tweed suit and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Mintram, Hants Constabulary, BITTERNE.— Bow- st, Feb. 26. Stolen at Lewes, on 19th instant:— a small gold Watch, hair Guard, and three or four| amall gold Lockets attached, the Photo of a little boy in one of them; a gold Ring with yellow stone at top; and a pair of silver mounted Spectacles, the hair Guard has since been returned to owner in a letter posted at Croydon. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather fresh complexion, dark eyes and hair, small dark moustache, proportionate figure ; dressed in very dark overcoat, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, and black felt hat; stated he was a commercial traveller for a large firm 2 POLICE GAZ ETTE March 16 in London; he is also wanted for a similar offence at Tun- bridge Wells, Kent. Information to Major Luxford, Chief Constable, or to Mr. Supt. Gabon, LEWES, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 26. Stolen at Harpurhey, between 8 a. m. and 7 p. m. 20th instant :— three l ed flannel Petticoats, with white calico bands, far worn ; a Purse, containing a plain gold keeper Ring, 9 carat, and £ i 6a. in Money. By a woman, about 27 yeais of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, sandy liair, and stout build, has a cast in her right eye ; dressed in grey ulster, with a black baud round right sleeve, black straw hat, trimmed with black crape. Information to County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.— Bow- street, February 26. Description of WALTER TATE, a cigar traveller, charged with embezzlement:— he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown liair, scar over one eye, slim build, and slight light moustache ; was dressed in a light coloured coat and vest, dark trousers and overcoat; has friends residing in Bradford, where he is well known. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. J. Jackson, Chief Constable, Central Police Offices, SHEFFIELD, who holds warrant for Tate's apprehension.— Bow street, February 26. Absconded from Glastonbury on 22nd instant, charged with larceny :— HENRY LAYINGTON, a tailor, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown hair, cut short, pale complexion ( blotches ou his face), little whiskers, very slight moustache; dressed in dark clothes, active and respectable looking. And SAMUEL BARTLETT, a tailor, about 25 years of age, about 4 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, and small moustache, rather florid complexion, round face, stout make, a little bow legged, active walker; dressed in dark cloth walking coat, light trousers, and black stiff bowler hat. Information to Mr. Bisgood, Deputy Chief Conetable, GLAS- TONBURY, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, February 26. Wanted at Wrexham, charged with larceny as a bailee of a gold hunting patent lever Watch, No. 47U69 :— THOS. WILLIAMS, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches or 6 ft. high, light hair, turniDg grey, bald on top of head, slight moustache, thin face, pale complexion, and proportionate build ; dressed ia a light grey overcoat, black trousers, lace- up boots, and billycock hat; when walking turns his feet out and holds his head down. He is a travelling watch- maker, stops in private lodgings, and gets watches to repair. Information to W. Wilde, I). C. C. WREXHAM, Denbighshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, February 26. FELONIES. { Not otherwise described.) Charged with maiming a Horse :— a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, thin face, rather slender build, and stoops a little. Has worked at butchers' shops in Liverpool, and has been ostler at public- houses. His father is a fishmonger at the Isle of Man. Information at the County Police Office, ORMSKIRK.— Bow- street, tebruaiy 28. Whereas, about 10 o'clock on tl e night of 20th ultimo, a Gasometer in the Tradeston Gas Works, was injured by the application of some explosive substance, to the danger of life, and the serious destruction of property, and, whereas, it has now been ascertained that the said explosive substance was maliciously and wilfully applied by some person or persona at present unknown. The Lord Provost and Magistrates hereby offer a reward of £ 500, to any person who will furnish such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons by whom such explosive substance was applied. The Lord Provost and Magistrates have been authorised by the Crown Au thorites to state that no pro- ceedings will be taken against any informer who was not an actual perpetrator of the crime. Information to A. M'Call, Chief Constable, Glasgow.— Bow- street, February 26. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a young German, who assumes the names of NEUMEYER, SCHIEDMEYER, and NUTT, whose apprehension is sought for obtaining Money by false pre- tences :— about 24 yews of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion; dressed in surtout black frock coat and tall hat; of gentlemanly appearance, speaks bad English. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investiga- tions. GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W. Metropolitan Police, March 2. Charged on warrant at Tunbridge Wells, with obtaining six Pigs by false pretences :— GEORGE RICHE, about 30 years of age, 5 feet, 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, one eye slightly contracted, black marks on hands, and stout figure ; a native of Hellingly, Sussex ; sometimes is wearing black patent leather leggings, and has an old pony ; nd cart with him. Information to the Chief of Police, TUNBRIDQE WELLS, — Eow- street, February 28. Wanted at Burslem, charged with obtaining by false pre tences on 22nd instant, a woman's plum- coloured stuff Dress, gathered and kilted ; Jacket of same material, trimmed with plum- coloured velvet; a dark woollen Petticoat, trimmed with two rows of black velvet and flowers ; 2 Holland Aprons, one marked ' E. 8.' in red cotton, and a Chemise, all nearly new ( not recovered) :— a woman about 50 years of age, umbrella liawker or mender, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, turning grey, slender build, appeared r, o be near sighted ; dressed in black bonnet, trimmed with black flowers, Paisley Bhawl, brown coloured dress, black jacket and apron. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Kill, BURSLEM- Bow- street, February 26. Wanted on a sheriff's warrant, charged with having defrauded wholesale provision merchants : — WILLIAM GEM. MELL, lately a grocer, at 75, Maitland- street, Cow- caddens, Glasgow, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, pale complexion, slight fair moustache and whiskers ( may now be shaved), dark brown hair, sharp high cheek bone*, and walks smartly and erect; dressed in a dark mixture tweed jacket suit, and new felt hat, wears a silver watch and steet albert; has with him a black corded oat and vest, a heavy blue serge jacket and vest, and a pair of dnrk grey mixture tweed trousers. Absconded on 19th instant, and it is known that he intends to leave the country. Information to A. McCalJ, Chief Constable, Central Police Chambers, GLASGOW.— Bow- street, February 26, MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Committed to the Quarter Sessions, at Chester, on several charges of till robberies :— WILLIAM JOHNSON, shoemaker Newry, states he left there 14 days ago, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4i inches high, grey eyes, freckled complexion, sandy red hair, red moustache, no whiskers, boil mark on back of neck, mark of dog bite on left breast, large pockmarks on body, and scar on right shin; dressed in dark tweed coat, black and white tweed' vest, dark grey tweed trousers, red and black scarf, low shoes, black sateen cap, hooked down in front. In his possession was found ( supposed to have been stolen) a black cloth shooting Coat, nearly new, sham pockets at side with flips, two pockets in skirts behind, one inside left breast, body lined with black Italian cloth, sleeves with white calico, the loop on collar has been removed, THOMAS RILEY, labourer, Lower Vennel, Dumfries, states he left there 7 months ago, sicce which time he has been in Glasgow, Liverpool, Belfast, & c,, 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 § inches high, grey eyes, pale sallow complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, long features, varicose veins in calves of both lege, tattoo mark on left wrist, mole on left jaw near ear ; dressed in old black cloth coat, old dark tweed trousers, black and grey striped trousers, white muffler with yellow spots, old sateen cap, black, hooked down in front, and low shoes. Both these prisoners speak with a Scotch accent, and refuse to be photographed, also seem to be conversant with prison discipline. Information to Chief Supt.
