Notice.— It i » requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- Dended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that in information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with th « advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter8 addressed to the Editor tat list he lirfliaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and at Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. . Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( I) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the nrooerty, without khe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9 p. m. on 8th instant and 6 a m. on 9th instant, the lockup shop of Mr. Geo. Lewis, of Park Stieet, Welling- ton, grocer and provision dealer, was broken into by means of forcing the back door with two chisels, one about half- an- incb, and the other about one inch wide, and two Hams stolen ( out of salt about a fortnight). Stolen from the Bailway Tavern, situate at Norton, between 1 and 5.30 a. m. 8th instant:— a black pilot Overcoat, nearly new, double- breasted, two rows of black bone buttons, 3 pockets outside and 1 inside left breast, lined with red aud black woollen lining, medium size; a blue pilot reefer Jacket, plain collar, double- breasted, 2 rows of black bone buttons, a narrow piece of cloth let in on the left side below the but'on holes, about 4 inches long, 3 outside pockets, and 1 inside left breast ; a pair of m » n's strong lace- up Boots, nearly new, brass eyelet holes, with hooks at top ; a pair of men's light lace- up Boots, much worn, newly heeled, with small pieces outside the soles, one upper leather loose from the sole near the heel; an old grey cloth ^ vest, faded, with new black twill back. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Trysull, neir Wolverhampton, between 10 a. m. 7th, and 3 30 p. m. 9th instant:— 4 Sovereigns, a litttle Silver, and a double Blanket, nearly new, with a border round consisting of four small blue stripes, with a larger stripe in the centre of dark colour. Stolen on 7th instant, by means of housebreaking : — a gold diamond Brooch and Ear- rings, one diamond in each ; a gold Brooch and Ear- rings, set with brilliants, four or five brilliants in Brooch, and one in each ear- ring ; a pair of gold Princess Ear- rings ; a Ditto, rose pattern, two roses on each drop ; a ditto American Dollar Drops; a gold Riup-, set with pearls, pearls soldered on with solder visible ; two ladies gold I tings, ore set with turquoise on each side and one pearl in centre, the other a thick keeper, chased, aud has hieroglyphics thereon ; a lady's gold watch Chain, bird's- eye pattern ; an American Dollar gold scarf Pin ; a gold collar Stud andtkree breast Studs, 9 carat, chased edges, plain centre ; a gold chased scarf Ring; a silver Brooch and Ear- rings, star pattern ; a lady's silver Albert, with whistle attached ; a ditto Locket, and two ditto Bracelets, one chased and one carved with two bands of silver, with filagree in centre. .£ 10 reward will be given on the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. Steward'; a silver Locket, containing phctograph of a, lady, aud thick silver chain attached ; about 3 dozen pencil Cases, gold and silver- plited, and mounteone is shape of a pistol ( silver) ; 9 alu- minium gold Penholders; a quantity of gold Toothpicks; about 15s. worth of Penny Stamps. Williams, Liverpool,' probably has, ' J. S. | 1178 I Z° insidu back of case, near the light hand edge ; 2 ^ old Guards, one shorter than the other, small link pattern, and a brown leather clasp Purse, containing 10s. in Silver and Copper. Supposed by a tramp, of whom the following description cau only be given, and who was frequently at the bask of the house at about 12 noon on 2nd iustant, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slight dark moustache ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, with low hard felt hat. Wanted at Dudley, on a charge of stealing thte « Coats ( recovered) on 5th instant :— a mau about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, round full face, aud broad nostrils ; dressed in black corded cloth jacket, dark trousers, hard black billycock, hat, black aud white muffler, aud old low shoes, tiad with string ; he is very talkative, and speaks with a strong Yorkehire accent, frequently interpolating the words ' nay mon,' in his talis. Supposed by three men ;— 1st, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, full face, large features, roman nose, light brown hair, lucliued to be sandy, shaved half way up face, stout build ; dressed lu dark cloth top coat, aud soft felt hat. 2ud, about. 40 years of aye, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers ( small), medium build ; dressed in dark top coat aud soft felt hat. 3rd, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, round features, black hair aud mous- tache, whiskers shaved half- way up face, stout build ; dressed in dark overcoat, aud hard felt hat. They were driving a brown cob, about 14 hauds high, white star iu forehead, au old dirty red painted spring cart, with a spring behind. In- formation to Supt. Stolen from Lluast Llanwneg :— two 3- year old horse Colts, one a nhesuut, whitish maue aud tail, white star on forehead, 12 hauds high, the other a black, very rough hair, 12 hands high. The red roan cart Gelding, reported stolen from Thoydon Garnon, Essex, between 28th aud 30th ultimo, and advertised iu Police Gazette of 1st instant, has been recovered at Deptford, and the mau suspected of stealing it is about 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full : ace, good lookiug, light brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, the whiskers cut square iu line with mouth, and moustache, aud clean chin ; dressed in a plum- coloured coat, vest, and trousers, the coat short, and hip pockets, black hard felt hat, and had a ring on his finger. Information to Mr. Supt Lennou, Constabulary Offiie, EPPING, Essex. — Bow- street, January 10. Found in Waddesdon, on 31st ultimo, and supposed stolen :— a dark chesnut Horse, aged, about 16 hauds high, white blaze down face, tail cut square, has two white feet on near side, is a little lame on near forefoot, aud has the appear- ance of a heavy brougham or carriage horse, iu fair condition. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from Dullingham, Cambs, on 18th ultimo, charged with stealing from the boys' bedroom at the racing stables of Mr, Marsh : a silver Geneva Watch, maker's name and number not known, a german silver curb pattern Albert Guard, 19s. in Money, and a new low- crowned hard black felt Hat ( maker's name ' S. Golding, Newmarket,' inside :— THOMAS GALTEROUS, a stable lad, 16 or 17 years of a » e, small in stature, and looks much younger. It is thought that this lad will seek employment in racing stables in the north of England. Information to Mr. Supt. Long, NEW- MARKET, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 12. Wanted on warrant, charged with stealing two Watches on 9th instant:- SAMUEL EDWARDS, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, ginger whiskers and moustache, light blue eyes, very thin build, and has a swinging gait when walking; dressed in a dark brown overcoat, black lillycock hat, auS light brown mixture suit. He is a watchmaker, but may seek employ- ment as a billiard marker. Information to Chief Inspector Nortcliff, Detective Department, Town Hall, LEEDS.— Bow- st., January 12. Absconded from Burslem, on 23rd ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a pair of Boots, brown clotu tops, button at sides, and toe- capped ( not reco/ ered) :— SAMUEL BROADBERE, bookbinder, 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexiou, light hair, slight light moustache, and supposed a native of Malvern, Worcestershire ; dressed in black hard hat, blue pilot cloth coat ( buttons to the neck), and brown tweed trousers. Two men, one about 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches hi^ h, daik hair aud small moustache, reund features, gentlemanly appearance; dressed in dark clothes, hard round felt hat, and elastic side boots, and has an impe- diment in his -. peech. 2ud, about 23 or 24 year: of age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, rather slight build ; dressed in brown suit and overcoat, hard round felt hat, but'on boots, some buttons deficient. Staid t the Hotel three days, and left behind them a new port- manteau, a dark coat, au old umbrella, a walking- stick, a nail brush, and tooth brush. Cassell, Petter and Galpin, publishers, and instructed to collect money for the completion of certain books supplied to their customers in monthly parts :— JAMES PEARCE, alias DAVIS, 28 yrs. of age, 5 teet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, clean shaved, fore fiuger of left hand stiff, scar on muscle of left arm ; dressed in dark blue serge snit, hard felt hat. O'U8 INFORMATION* Description of a man found in the river Trent at Overton, on 7th instant:— about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, no hair on head, 5 feet 6 inches high, daik brown moustache ; dressed in dark invisible check heather cloth coat, drab cloth vest, black and white narrow striped cloth trousers, elastic side boots, blue and white striped oxford shirt; an old steel albert, with three brass and one silver coin found in trousers pscket. The body was very much decomposed, supposed to have been in the water from one to two months. An inquest was held, and a verdict of ' Found drowned' returned. Information to Supt. Grimes, PULHAM MARKET, or to Sergeant Shepherd, Diss, Norfolk. — Bow- strett, January 12. Found on morning of 8th instant: — a child of premature birth in an advanced state of decomposition, wrapped in a white night d^ ess, part of coarse apron, : » print apron, and Family Herald of December 4th, 1882, the words ' Miss Keyatt,' or some such name written on paper, enclosed in a cardboard box wrapped in brown paper, lntormation to A. A. Pratt, Head Constable, CHICHESTER.— Bow- street, January 10. Remanded at Sproatley, till 15th instant, charged with poultrv- stealing THOMAS SMITH, alias THOMAS KEMP, alias . MUSSEL TOM, 38 years of age, 5 fr. 4J ins. high, brown eyes, light hair ( cut short) and whiskers only under chin, high cheek bones. States he was born at Not- tingham, that he has worked at Grimsby as a navvy ; durit g the last few years lived in Hull, and has occasionally hawked mussels. Ha has several different dresses, but when appre- hended had on a long drab fearnought double breasted top coat with drab wood buttons, brown cotton cord vest, black ribbed cloth trousers, and brown hard felt hat. Committed for trial at the next City Assizes, for felony : — BENJAMIN WARD, a clerk, 26 years of age, 5 feet3ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, and has a dimple in chin, no beard or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and billyci ck hat; states he is a native of Dudley, but has lately been employed in Birmingham. Committed for trial at the Assizes, at Welshpool, on 15th instant, charged with entering a house at Lilaiidysilio and stealing an Overcoat :— GEOKGE STOKES, native of Loadoti, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, small sandy moustache, and grey eyes ; dressed iu light brown tweed coat and trousers, blue waistcoat, rouud hard hat, and old elastic side boots. He had in his possession some papers connected with the Piudential Friendly 8ociety, and is sup- posed to have lately resided at Chester. Information to Mr. E.
