O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is givon, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor milSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Llangadock, Carmarthenshiie, on 25th ultimo, charged on a warrant with night poaching and feloniously shooting at and wo undine one George Joyce, on night of 24th ultimo :— JONAH EVANS, of Llangadock, a mason, SI years of age, 5 feet 41 inches liigh, florid com- plexion, stout build, dark brown hair, whiskers, ard mous- tache, dark grey eyes, scar on first fioger of left hand, blue mark and scar on left hand, and two scars on left thigh ; was dressed in grey cloth coat and vest, light moleskin trousers, brown loggings, strong lace- up boots, and black felt hat. Is well known at Morriston, near Swansea, hiiving lived there for some time. Is a notorious poacher, and was convicted of night poaching in 1878. Information to the Chief Constable, Chief Constable's Office, Llandilo.— Brno- street, December 1. FORGERY. Absconded on 17th instant, charged under warrant, with uttering a forged Cheque on Messrs. Mills, Errington, and Bawtree, bankers, Colchester, for ,£ 124 10s. :— THOMAS WINCHESTER, secretary to the Tollesbury and Mersey Blackwater Oyster Fishery Company, Limited, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eye?, light brown hair, inclined to sandy, light whiskers and beard, slightly grey, and worn long, has a peculiar gait when • walking, apparently tender feet, quiet in manners and con- versation; he is a native of Devonshire, and since his discharge from the 1st Royal Eegiment, in which he served as a soldier, he has been to sea as a sailor, and has also been employed as a brewer's clerk, either of which employments he may seek again; the above money was obtained in hard cash. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester.— Bow- street, November 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Preston, on 23rd instant:— a, gold lever Watch, three- quarter plate, has maker's name ' John Johnson, Orchard- street, Preston,' on dial and works, white dial, steel hands, plain cases, with shield and garter on back, has ' T. L.' engraved on shield, 2] 4 size, been in wear about 12 or 14 years, number not known at present. In- formation to Capt. Little, Chief Constable, Borough Police, Preston.— Bern- street, November 27. Stolen from the person of Thomas Eves, who was murdered on 19th instant, in the Subscription Grounds, Gravesend :— a very old silver lever open- face Watch, out of repair, No. 1845, supposed brass Albert, with Seal attached, bar of the chain broken off. Information to Geo. Berry, Chief Constable, Gravesend.— Joy- street, November 27. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on the 2Cth ult, at Aldrington :— a silver verge Watch, engine- turned cases, cracked on dial between the 6 and 7, number not known, maker ' Miller, Trafalgar- street, Brighton'; a silver albert Chain, twisted pattern, with silver tassell at end. Supposed by a man 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, complexion dark, eyes dark, has a stye on left eye, hair dark, figure stout, married, brickmaker; dress, black monkey jacket, black trousers and vest, hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Dennis, Patcham, East Sussex ; or to Sergeant Holland, Portslade- by- Sea.— Bow- street, December 1. Further particulars respecting the burglary at Bradford Leigh ( see Police Gazette of 15th ultimo):— the coats, um- brellas, and one of the baskets were found in the possession of RICHARD THOMPSON, who has been committed for trial. The other articles mentioned, as well as several check and two white shirts are still mibsing. A youth, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, black hair, small features, heavy eyebrows, downcast look, native of Bath, is also suspected. He is supposed to be the second person described in Police Gazette of 22nd ultimo,, wanted for burglary at TormartOD. Information to Mr. Supt. White, Trowbridge, Wilts.— Bow- ttreet, December 1. Stolen by means of burglary, on Sunday night 26th ult., at Blunt s Farm, Sanbridgeworth, Herts :— 5 blank Cheque?, torn from cheque book on the London and Westminster Bank, Limited, Temple Bar Branch ( 217, Strand), numbers 257775, 257776, 257777, 257778, and 257779 ; a Japan Cash- box, with brass handle on top, containing £ 6 in Gold, 3 three- penny Pieces, and a few coppers ; 2 yards of unbleached Calico, also a lady's cashmere elastic side Boot ( left foot). Supposed stolen from a meadow at Horloy, on 23rd ult. : — Two 2- year old Heifers, the proper: y of Mr. Alfred Beeney, residing at Earlswood, one toan- colour, the other dark red and white, with two clip marks on the off hind quarters. Information to Mr. Supt. Rogers, Redhill.— Bow- street, De- cember 1. Wanted, charged with stealing a Horse at Upton, Pyne, Devon, on 19th ultimo ( recovered) :— a man about 28 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, freckled complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, clean shaved, slight build, erysipelas marks on face, scald marks on'back of both legs, flesh mole under left shoulder; drcsssd in a suit of dark grey tweed, tight fitting trousers, has the appearance of a jockey. Supposed to be the man wanted for stealing 3 horses in the Long Ashton Division, and 2 in the Axbribge Division, Somerset, between 25th October and 6th ultimo. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter.— Bow- sfeet, D'cmber 1. Absconded from Pegsdon, Beds , on 17th ult.. charged on a warrant with stealing a Sheep:— THOMAS ROBERTS, abas FADGE, 27 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, complex- ion fair, light brown hair and whiskers, about a fortnight's growth, hazel eyes, proportionate build, and oval face ; dressed when last seen in corduroy trousers, black pilot jacket, hard felt hat, and heavy lace- up boots. He is in the habit of_ travelling in company with low horse dealers. Information to Superintendent Reynolds, Herts Constabu- lary, Hitchin.— Bow- street, December 1, Pound straying at Midsomer Norton, on 14th instant ( supposed stolen) :— a light grey Mare, about 14 hands high, aged, tail cut square, small mane, spavins on both hind legs, and newly shod. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT WILLIAM WILSON, described in Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, as wanted for theft, at Lockerbie, has been arrested.— Bow- street, December 1. THOMAS FULLWOOD, advertised in Police Gazette of 29th ultimo, as wanted at Burslem, for larceny as bailee of a Grinding Barrow, lias been apprehended. -- Bow- ttreet, December 1. Wanted under a warrant for embezzling £ 5 5s. 6d. :— ALFRED BRADLEY, 17 or 18 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, narrow face ; dressed in liairy cap, grey slop jacket, brown cord trousers, lale- up clogs, black and white plaid shirt; a farm labourer, and stated that he was a native of Kent. Infor- matioa to Superintendent LeightOD, County Constabulary Office, AItrincham, Cheshire, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, December 1. The marble Timepiece advertised in Police Gazette of 29th ultimo, has since been found pledged in Manchester, by a man who gave the name of JOHN WARC, 51, Rutland Street, Hulme, which is false :— about 33 years cf age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark hai-, whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in a brown overcoat, black pot hat, slight impediment in his speech, he can be identified. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Man- chester. — Bow- ttreet, December 1. Stolen from the Officers' quarters, Brompton, on 29th ultimo, property of Captain Meredith :— a lady's gold topaz Ring, a Revolver, and two black cloth Suits ( one nearly new, the other oldj. By a private of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, blue eyes, tattooed on left fore arm ' R. H. A.,' cross guns, and man's head ; native of Newnham, near Daventry, Northampton, and enlisted at Coventry 28th April, 1882 ; dressed in servant's tweed suit and black bard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. E. Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham.— Bow- street, December 1. Charged with stealing a breast Strap and four Brasses ; three face Straps and six Brasses ; and a top Strap and Braes, all recovered -.— JOHN DOWNS, alias BEVAN, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, stout build, firm labourer ; dressed in dark brown coat, light cloth trousers, billycock hat, lace- up boot3 ; well known at Tushingham, Cheshire, and Wem, Shropshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Plant, Cheshire Constabulary, Broxton, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 29. Charged with being the bailee of a Carbine, belonging to the 1st North York Artillery Volunteers, and converting the same to his own use :— THOMAS HAMILTON, a labourer, 2- 2 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender figure, sallow complexion, cast in eyes, brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, of smart appearance; sometimes works as a painter in ship- yards, was seen in Hull about 10 days ago. Infor- mation to E. J. Saggerson, Chief Constable, Middlesborough. — Bow- street, November 29. Description of a man who pledged the gent's black and white mixture Overcoat, referred to in printed bills of 17th instant:— gave the name of GEORGE KING, 18, York- st,, Manchester, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, light complexion; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, and pot hat. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, November 29. Wanted at Kendal, on a charge of embezzlement, and who abscouded from Kendal, on 18sh instant, and for whoso apprehension a warrant has been issued: — JOHN HALLIWELL, labourer or coal hawker, native of Kendal, 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, very dark brown hair and moustache, rather stoutish build, full face and eyes, whiskers shaved off, face rather bloated through drink ; dressed in black cloth coat and troupers, brown tweed vest, black felt hat, Rob Roy plaid scarf, blue cotton shirt, strong lace- up boots, supposed far worn. Photo will be sent on applies' ion. Information to Thomas Cotton, Chief Constable, Kendal. — Bow - street, November 29. Wanted at Lynn, for breaking into two vessels, lying in that harbour, on 23rd and 26 th instant, and stealing therefrom a quantity of Wearing Apparel, part of which is recovered : — a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, florid complexion, good P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. December 2z teetb, and good looking ; dressed in black or bine slack back coat, blue guernsey, and cap ; states he is a sailor and a diver, and was employed at the wreck of the Princess Alice. Had in his possession a pillow- slip, containing a pair of youth's moleskin Trousers, and a pair of lace- up Boots, with gutta- percha soles, part of the Btolen property. Is wanted at other seaports for similar robberies. Information to George Ware, Head Constable, Lynn.— Bow- street, November 29. Description of FREDERICK DAVID TURNER, who is wanted on warrant, charged with embezzlement ;— he is 30 years of age, medium height, stout build, unhealthy looking, light hair, inclined to be sandy, sandy whiskers and mous- tache ; dressed in a snuff- coloured suit of clothe?, the coat has a black band round one sleeve, black billycock hat; he is a native of Sheffield, and has been employed as a clerk in a solicitor's office, and may seek such employment in some other town. Information to Mr. John Jackson, Chief Constable, Central Police Offices, Sheffield.— Bow- street, November 29. Wanted for stealing a Vest ( brown cloth with braid, and which he. is " supposed to be wearing) :— DANIEL LEAHY, labourer, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, native of Thnrles, Tip perary; dressed in blue cloth jacket, fustian trousers, and Scotch cap ; has worked at Penmaenmawr Sett Quarries, also at the New Railway Works, Bethesda; supposed to have gone to South Wales ; is also wanted for desertion, see No. 292190, Police Gazette 21th instant, deserter frotu Inniskilling Fusiliers. Information to the Chief Constable, Carnarvon.— Boic- street, November 29. Description of J AMES PL ATT, charged with embezzling severs! sums of money :— 22 years of age, 5 feet hijjh, fair hair, round featured, blue eye, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in round cord jacket, cord trousers, cap, and clogs. Has a friend at No. 42, Coppy Nook, Blackburn ; and a sister residing close to, and another residing at Church pariah, near Blackburn. Talked of emigrating to America. Description of a man who absconded on 27th instant, charged with stealing, in company with two other men in custody, and remanded until 2nd proximo., a large quantity of pressed brown Paper ( new) :— about 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, sunken jaws, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache thin and going grey, slender build ; dressed in dark tweed coat, cord trousers an<| vest, laee- up shoes, soft felt hat, turns up at side ; trade, an overlooker in a cotton mill. Stolen in Stockport, about C 30 am., on 24th instant: — a gentleman's black cloth ribbed worsted Overcoat, single breasted, cloth covered buttons, four pockets outside, one inside, black Italian lining, which is torn a little near collar and inside left cut!' of sleeve, part worn ; a pair of gentleman's button Boots, size 7, kid tops, hand sewn, one or two buttons have been resewn on, part worn; a man's blue striped cotton shirt, part worn. By a man, a blacksmith, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, complexion pale, hair brown, cut very short all over head, brown moustache, no whiskers; dressed in snuff- eoloured coat, light trousers, black hard felt hat, common muffler, and clogs ; had a ring on one finger of left hand. Wanted for stealing a Watch ( recovered) :— EDWARD JACKSON, 21 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, iight hair, slight moustache ; dressed in long brown overcoat, brown trousers, and brown hard felt hat. Information to Inspector Hummers tone, Police Station, Watford, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Nov. 27. Stolen from a clothes line at Brede, Sussex, on night of 21st instant, between 8 p. m. and 7 a. m. :— two blue striped cotton Shirts, and two pairs of blue worsted Stockings. Supposed by a man 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, light eyes, brown hair, slight figure, a labourer ; dressed in old greeu cloth jacket, cord trousers, heavy half boots, ard hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Baldwin, Guestling, East Sussex Constabulary.— Bow- street, November 27. Absconded from Kendal, on 18tb instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: — JOHN HALL1 WELL, labourer or coal hawker, native of Kendal, 35 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, very dark brown hair and moustache, rather stoutish build, full face and eyes, whiskers shaved oif, face rather bloated through drink ; dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, brown tweed vest, black felt hat, Rob Roy plaid Bcarf, blue cotton shirt, strong lace- up boots, supposed far worn. Information to Thomas Cotton, Chief Constable, Kendal. — Bow - street, November 27. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement, advertised in Police Gazette of 3rd instant :— ROWLAND EWAN, late coal agent to the Kendal Equitable Industrial Co operative Society, and who absconded from Kendal, on 28th ultimo :— about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, heavy buahy whisker?, dark brown hair, propor- tionate build, has lost some teeth on riqht side of upper jaw, which is rather conspicuous, sticks his shoulders up, and haDg< his head to one side when walking, rather simple looking, shuffling walker ; dressed in a black cloth shooting coat and vest, dark grey tweed trousers, and soft black billy- cock hat ; he is a native of Hut. ton, Westmorland, and has a brother residing there, has relatives at Crook and Gilpin Bridge, Westmoreland : has been in the employ of the Furness Railway Company, was forman porter at Grange, and station master at Foxfield Junction ; is well known at Ulverston, Barrow- in- Furness, Workington, Whitehaven, and other parts of Cumberland ; supposed to be residing at Man- chester, or in the neighbourhood. Information to Thomas Cotton, Chief Constable, Kendal, Westmoreland.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen at High Wycombe, onT23rd instant:— a pair of half watertight lace- up Boots, pegged, nearly new. By two navvies, one about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high; dressed in white soft felt hat, dark pilot jacket, clean moleskin trousers, strong watertight boots; the other about 5 feet 4 or 5 iuches high ; dressed in black soft felt hat, heavy dark coac, much worn, cord trousers, wateitight boots. Description of ARTHUR PORTER, a butcher, wanted on warrant for embezzlement at Witley, Surrey:— 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and small moustache; a native of Odiham, Hants. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Surrey ' Constabulary, Guildford, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, November 27. Absconded from High Wycombe Bnrough, on 17th inst,, charged on warrant with stealing Bed Clothing ( recovered) ; stlso a child's Frock, and a hand Basket:— ELLEN BUCK- NER, alias LOOSELY, 40 years of age, rather short and stout, dark hair, short full face, has a black eye, lame left leg ; dressed in black bonnet, small red ornament in front, black jacket, white wrapper round her neck ; had in her possession the basket, which is of a dark red colour with two handles, and about ,15 inches long. Accompanied by a man, named 1 Loosely, alias ' Curly,' who passes as her husband, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark whiskers round his face ; dressed in hard felt billy hat, dark jacket, white slop underneath, and is a labourer. Collins, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- st., Nov. 27 Wanted on a warrant charged with embezzlement:— FRANK TUBNER, a clerk, late of Bournemouth, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion ( freckled), dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark clothe', dark over- coat, black round felt hat; native of Bridgewater, Somerset; when last seen was wearing a pair of yellow leggings. In- formation to Inspector W. Alexander, Hants Constabulary, Bournemouth.— Bow street, November 27.
