No. 6834 Notice*— It ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of She person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should he made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. An no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aS! letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and el Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 8Hi, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE G AZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The • mount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions ou which it is payable. $ 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POEICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition ot Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At 6 a. m. on 14th instant, the dead body of a male child, about 10 days old, wrapped in a piece of old sheeting, about a yard square, was found in the Strood Tunnel of the North Kent Railway. An inquest was held the same day, and the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to Mr. Supt. E Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham.— Bow- street, October 18. Whereas, on 3rd instant, the dead body of a newly born female child was found in a field at Consett, wrapped in a white cotton pillow- slip, with two tape strings at each side of one end, and covered over with some stones. At the inquest on 5th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Notice is hereby given, that £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Found about 9 a. m. 6th instant, in the Rochdale Canal, at Newton : — a male child ( new born), quite naked, umbilical cord cut close to body and not tied, the body does not appear to have been in the water long, it now lies at the Lock House, Church- street, Newton. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1882. seen carrying two parcels, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or C inches high ; dressed in dark coat, brown trousers, slouched hat, and wearing a light necktie ; was seen in company with 3 other meu, who booked by different trains to Shrewsbury. Stolen from the person at Burslem, on 14th instant.— a small English silver lever Watch, No. 1034, with gold plated Albert and Locket, containing the portrait of a boy attached. Stolen from the person at Whitchurch Market, on 13th instant:— a lady's [ derni silver Watch, yellow face and blue figures, with black Guard attached. Supposed by a man was BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Cardington, Salop about. 11 a m. on 16th instant :— a drab duck Jacket, lined with cotton and check, a tuck in the lining, bone buttons ; an old cotton Handkerchief; a check Scarf ( woollen and cotton) and a pair of woollen ( Stockings. By a tramp about 30 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, very dark swarthy complexion, wanted shaving badly, wore an old jacket or slop thrown loosely over his shoulders. By a man about 22 years of age, slim built. 5 feet 9 inches high, little or no whiskers; dressed in hare. black bowler bat, dark brown jacket, light trousers, and Ice- up boots, the left boot having a piece cut out of upper on he off side ; had the appearance of a tramping groom ; be pldged the stolen boots at Bristol, on the day of the robbery and had committed a cottage robbery at Tetbury the pre^ ous day. Stolen by means of burglary, at Rarncote Wray Park, m 13th instant:— eight silver fish Knives and Forks, with carv(] ivory handles ; twelve eilver dessert Knives and Forks, wih ivory handles ; an oval Bilver sugar Basin, plain pattern, wit two handles, and crest— a lion erect; a pair of silver Tongs and a dessert silver sugar Holder, high handle in the middle large nails sunk in leather and figure ' 7' stamped in heel. Stolen by means of burglary, at the Queen's Arms public- house, Crondall, ou 5th inst. :— about £ 20 in Gold and Silver, including a Sovereiga of Geo. III.; a yellow big Purse, with partition ; 2 old silver Watches, one maker ' Hathaway, Odiham,' the other ' Gregory, Basingstoke,' steel Chain and Keys attached to one of them ; a Receipt for £ 160 in the Lon- don and County Bank ( Farnham Branch) ; aCertificateof Mar- riage between John II? I Harriett Silver, dated Nov. C, 1834 ; a Fire Insurant cy in Alliance Office ; a single- barrel Pistol ; and the Will of John Hall, in favour of Harriett Hall. Supposed by two men, who were in the house about three weeks previous : 1st, from 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, and slight figure ; dressed in dark coat, dark overcoat, and black hard hat. 2nd, < about 30 years of age, rather short and stout; dressed in dark short coat and black hard hat. They had iri their possession a Railway ABC Guide and a map, and had the appearance of card sharpers. It is believed they came from the nighbourhood of Whitechapel or Strat- ford by Bow, Loudon. C.' in centre ; 2 Sovereigns • about 30 old foreign Coins, including a 7s. gold piece, and 2 gold Coins of smaller . value ; a lady's gold Ring, red stone in centre ; a Purse, containing £ 2 ; a lady's cameo Brooch, female figure} a lady's gold Chain, with Ring and Key attached; an old silver Watch, marked on works ' John has places for two basins to lit in ; also two Spoons. Supposed by a tramp, from 50 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, medium size ; dressed in an oid pilot jacket, ccrd trousers, and billycock hat. During the night of 9th instant, the Booking Office of the Great Northern Railway Station, St. Albans, was entered and 4s. lljd. in Coppers, £ 2 9i. in Silver, and a brown paper Parcel, containing a pair of manV Boots, stolen therefrom. The Boots, one of tops grain hide leather, have pointed toes and toecaps, eyelets and brass hooks, leather lined, loops at back, sewn to top with yellow thread forming the letter ' K,' soles have two rows of nails, one small, the other large, sunk in leather, and stamp hydrons, waterproof leather, registered— and stamp— imitation pair of shoes crossed in the centre, one other stamp the glacier waterproof and letter ' K,' ' 7, 3, A' on soles; a row of Vedium build, and dressed in black frock coats, black felt Ms, and dark trousers; the short, man carried a black hand- Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a field at Nazeing, Essex, during the night of 20th ultimo :— a, bay carriage Horse, 10 or 12 yeais old, 16 hands high, { saddle marks, one white hind foot, square cut tail, low on the pasterns when standing or walking, in good condition, and no shoes when stolen. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner, E. Palmer, Esq., 46, Spring Gardens, London, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Horse and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Supt. By a farm labourer, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches iiigh, brown hair, cut Bhort, small brown whiskers on sides of face ; dressed in drab coat, cord vest and trousers, jimcrow hat, and strong boots ; supposed to be a native of Herefordshire. He is as described in Police Gazette of 2nd instant, for robbery at Llanfair. Information to the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to P. C. Tanner, Kerry, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen from the shop of Thomas Davies, tailor, Gwyd- delwern, near Corwen, about 4 p. m., 16th instant:— a pair of light brown woollen cord Trousers, nearly new, would fit a lad 16 or 17 years of age, trimmed with metallic buttons, fly front*, and without lining. By a tramp, from 35 to 38 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown beard and whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, light cloth trousers and vest, billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Supposed to be in company of a stout lad, 16 or 17 years of age. Infor- mation to Inspector Hugh Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire. — Bow- street, October 20. JOHN MITCHELL JONES, advertised in the Police Gazette of 30th August last and subsequent dates, as wanted for Embezzlement, is not to be apprehended, the warrant having been withdrawn.— Bow- street, October 20. Description of ALICE WEST, wanted for stealing a Table Cloth and other articles from a tramps' lodging- house at Dartford, on 7th instant ( property recovered) :- she is about 40 years of age, 5 feet high, dark frizzy hair turning grey, and large scar across bridge of nose ; dressed in light skirt, drab top, black cloth jacket, and black bonnet; frequents 1) W lodging- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, Dartfort— Bow- street, October 18. Absconded from Ringshall, Bunks, on 12th instant, charged with stealing 52 Sovereigns and 4 Half- Sovereigns :— a man, 34 years of agf, 5 feel, Gi inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown ( nearly black) hair,-^ loustache, and whiskers meeting under the chin, ha3 a scar o » . leg^ tween the knee and ankle, scar on throat, having some years ago cut his tliroat with a knife ; dressed in an old light brown overcoat, dark cloth trousers, patched on knees with cloth of a different colour, black hard felt hat, and heavy lace- up watertight boots. May endeavour to emigrate. Information to Inspector Sutton, Police Station, Linslade, Bucks.— Bow- street, October 18. Stolen from Saltergill Farm, near Yarm, between 3 p. m. and 9 p. m. on 14th instant:— a lady's silver lever Watch, white dial, black figures, minute pointer broken off, letters ' G. B.' on outside case, number not known, had attached a black silk twisted guard, and two keys. Supposed by a man 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh com- p'exion, brown hair, ginger whiskers and moustache of about rj weeks growth, proportionate figure, a tramp ; dressed in a grey coat and vest, black trousers, and black cap, may be wearing part of a dark flannel shirt. Charged on warrant with stealing a gold lever Watch, ( on 2nd instant), No. 60910, jewelled in six holes, with gold Albert and'double Seal jattached :- JOHN BISHOP, alias WARD, native of Northampton, a rivetter, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, slightly pockmarked, brown hair ; dressed iu dark clothes, dark felt hat, light blue silk neckerchief ; he has worked at Kettering and Leicester, where he is well known ; h » is supposed to have gone to Leicester. Stolen at Longsight, about 4' 20 p. m. 9th instant :— a dark ribbed blue cloth Overcoat, single- breasted, cloth buttons, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, and ticket pocket outside, the sleeves lining is torn under each arm, had an Handkerchief : n the inside pocket. Stolen at Tetbury, at 3 p. m. on 12th instant :— a small silver Brooch, with a bird stamped on it; a large Walking- stick, with black knob for handle ; a small Money- box, with a few Coppers in it ; and some Pood. By a tramp, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, little or no whiskers; dressed in a dark brown jacket, light trousers, hard bowler hat, lace- up boots, left boot had a piece cut out of the outside. Information to Sergeant Munday, Police Station, Tetbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, Oc'. ober 16. Stolen on 6th instant: — a boy's Jacket and Vest, ( recovered). By a man, a telegraph repairer, about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaven chin; dressed in old brown cloth jacket, dirty moleskin vest, double- breasted, new moleskin trousers, strong lace- up boots, small size, silk tie, and scull cap ; he pledged the coat and vest at Macclesfield, in the name of Geo. Williams, and com- mitted a similar offence there. Information to Police Offica, Stockport.— Bm- street, October 16. Description of ROBERT PARRY, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money, at Pershore, on 28th ultimo :— 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy coloured moustache, has a little hair on side of face, a native of Malvern, and a baker. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for hi3 apprehension. — Bow- street, October 13.
