Notice*— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with Che advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter)* addressed to the Editor most be prepaid) otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and » 1 Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The • mount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. < 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t/ ne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas on 28th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born ifull grown female Child was found in the Gill Cemetery, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, wrapped in a piece of brown paper, a piece of a woman's plain calico night dress, and two pieces of cotton print sowed together, apparently part of a • counterpane, one piece dark lilac, and the other blue ground, with blue and white diagonal stripes and brown flowers. The Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Her Majesty's government will pay £ 50 reward to any person ( other than a person be- longing to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the dis- covery and conviction of the murderer or murderers : and the - Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. The articles in which the body was wrapped may be seen at the Detective Office, Central Police Station. Information to John Nicholson, Chief Con- stable, Central Police Station, Sunderland.— Bow- st., Oct. 9. Wanted in Northampton, charged with malicious wounding, with intent to murder, on 5th instnnt:— a clerk, 19 years of oge, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin build, fair complexion, and light hair; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, dark trousers, black felt hat, all very shabby, blue and white night shirt, and supposed to be without shoes. Information to H. Keenan, Chief Constable, Northampton.— Bow- street, • October 9. Wanted on a charge of manslaughter— a man, about 25 years of age, about 5 ieet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, two dimples in right cheek bone ( one about f of an inch, the other about } of an inch in diameter), which draw his eyelid a little down ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, old blue cloth trousers, cloth cap, and a pair of old Bhoes. He frequents low beer- houses and lodging- houses, where lie plays a tin whistle ; he absconded about a month ago, and is tramping from town to town. Was last heard of at Runcorn on 25th ultimo. Infor- mation to Mr. Sopt. Beetham, Chorley.— Bow- street, Oct. 2. On the morning of 28th ultimo, the dead by of a newly- born fall grown female child was found in the Gill Cemetery, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, wrapped in a piece of brown paper, a piece of woman's plain calico nightdress, two pieces of cotton print sewed together, apparently torn ofl' a counter- pane, one piece dark lilac, and the other blue with diagonal stripes, has shades of white across one way, aud a bunch of brown leaves across the other way, and tied with a piece of small twine. A coronor's inquest was held, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown' returned. Information to John Nicholson, Chief Constable, Sunderland.— Bow- street, 0: tvbw 2. FORGERY. Absconded, charged with uttering au American Banker's Draft with forced endorsement, with intent to defraud :— ELIOT RYDER, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, hair, moustache, whiskers ( slight) and eyes, dark ; dressed in black twill frock coat, and ( generally) dark turban hat. May call at Lennock's Hotel, Sevenoaks, Kent, where he is known. Warrant issued. Information to The Director of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Ptlice, October 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary between 11 p. m. on 5th, and 6 a. m. on 6th instant, from Park Cottage, Sandiway, Weaverham :— a brown cloth shooting Coat, much worn, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast; two pairs of men's elastic- side Boots, part worn; two black alpacca Umbrellas, part worn ; two black felt Hats, blue lining ; a tea Towel, with blue stripes ; about 20 lb. of Bacon ; also a very old- fashioned Cup and Saucer, of foreign manufacture. Information to Mr. Supt. Naylor, Constabulary Office, Oak- mere, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Ociober 9. Stolen by means of officebreaking, between 10 p. m. on 2nd and 6 a. m. on 3rd instant at Flint:— six cakes of cavendish Tabaeco, stamped, ' Adams, Montreal,' white metal plates affixed on the centra of each cake. An attempt was also made to force open the iron safe. Information to the Supt. of Police, Moid.— Bow- street, October 9- Stolen by means of burglary, at No. 73, High Street, Sedgley, on 4tli instant :— a pair of man's half Wellington Boots, a few sprigs in soles, and nearly new ; a pair of boy's elastrtc side Boots, much worn; a pair of boy's leather Leg- gings, spring aides ; a damask Tablecloth, very much worn three white Pocket Handkerchiefs, marked at corner ' M. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 2nd inst, at Kate's Hill, Dudley :— a black cloth Overcoat, single breasted, with black covered buttons, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, maker's name, ' Samuel Waring, Dudley,' on collar loop; an old grey cloth] Overcoat, single- breasted, with light bone buttons, pockets on hips aud one inside left breast, ' Samuel Waring, Dudley,' on collar loop; a pair of man's laced Bot. ts, with brass eyelet holes and toe- capped ( nearly new) ; also a tobacco Pouch, beeu sewn with black cotton. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Oct. 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 and 12 a. m. on 3rd instant, from a cottage at Buckland Wharf:— a dark pilot Coat; a black cloth Jacket, pockets outside; a black cloth Overcoat and Yest ; a hard felt Hat • an Oxford mix- ture cloth Jacket and Yest ; a pair of light lace- up Shoes, toecapped and nailed; a pair of militia gr » y Socks ; and a green plaid silk Handkerchief. By tramps, about 20 years of age, one 5 feet 4 inches high, and the other 5 feet 2 ins. high. Supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. Stolen at Dresden, by means of liowe breaking on lst instant :— a pair of silver Earrings; a small silver Geneva Watch, cream coloured dial, and seconds hand \ £ 4 in Gold ; and about 58s. in silver Coins. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Charged with stealing a Horse and Cart ( recovered) :— GEORGE NORTHCOTE, 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light hair and complex ion, grey eyes with a small speck in one of them ; dressed in dark grey suit of clothes nearly new, round hat, and low shoes ; may seek employment ; B a stable- man or cabdriver, cf very drunken habit. Information to John Lynn, H. C , Devonport.— Bow- street, Ociober S. Stolen from a Btable at. the ' New Market Tavern,' Brecrn, on 3rd instant:— a light bay Gelding, about 13£ hares high, 2 years old, white star on forehead, white spot on nose, white on fetlock joints, close to hoof of hind legs, small lump between the hock aud ham on near hind leg ; also a new siigle rein snaffie Bit Bridle and lialf- worn Saddle. By a man, ibout 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexity, dark mutton- chop whiskers, dark hair turning grey ; dressed in a dark pebper and salt coloured jacket, waistcoat„ and irousers, black hard felt hat, has the appearance of a collier. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. James Watkins, Borough Police, Brecon. Bcrw- street, October 6. Wanted on a warrant, charged with maliciously tiling a horse at Shenstone, on 23rd ultimo :— WILLIAM 0330RN, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a dark cloth jacket, and corded vest very red as if coloured by sand, aud a new billycock hat. Information to Sergt. Pearson, Vhitt- ington, near Lichfield, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, October 4. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Ponv and Cart, on 31st August last, at Kegworth :- JOHN DIXON, abo. it 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, lost some of his upper front teeth, supposed to belong to Blackburn or Manchester, a hearth stone maker; dressed when he went away iu dark grey coat and vest, and light cloth trousers. Pony, dark cream coloured, 13$ hands high, chipped on both knees, and has a wart taken ofl' the near ear ; a strong spring Cart painted dark chocolate colour, picked out with red, except the wheels, they are quite plain, brass mounted harness. This man hired the above pony and cart on 31st August, for a week or two, and has not returned it; he has a box lying at Leicester Railway Station ; he also has two trucks laden with goods standing at St. Pancras Station London, where they have been standing for the last fortnight. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen at Senny Bridge, Breconshire, during the night of 4th instant :— 1 pair of white moleskin Trousers, no lining ; 1 single- breasted Waistcoat, same material, Ivory buttons, both nearly new ; 1 short duck Jacket, metal buttons ; 2 pairs men's knitted grey Stockings, white tops ; 2 pairs boys' ditto, 1 pair woman's ditto, all same colour; and 1 old striped Pillow Case. Also, on the same night, at Pentrefelin, 1 old Welsh flannel Shirt, lately repaired ; 1 English grey striped ditto, lately repaired on bottom with new material of a dif- ferent colour, both shirt fasten behind : 1 white flannel Under Shirt, each shirt has the initials ' O. E.' in front; and 1 pair of grey ribbed Stockings, ' O. E.' on each. Supposed by a tramp, who had the appearance of a railway labourer, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers cut short; dressed in brown coat and waistcoat, white moleskin trousers, and hat. Charged with stealing a white Ostrich Feather ; a lady's black silk - v elvet Jacket; a lady's grey Jacket, tijimwiJ with brown velvet: a black French merino Dress trimmed with black velvet and 4 tassels ; a lady's Dress, light brown at top, the bottom dark brown; a black Orleans quilted Petticoat, braided with black velvet; a white flannel Petticoat; a brown calico Petticoat; a white calico Nightdress ; a calico Chemise; a Holland Apron ; a pair of woollen Stockings; a japanned Cash- box, containing 8s. 9d., a £ 5 Bank of England Note, and £ 20 to £ 25 in Gold :- ELIZABETH SUTTON, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, good looking, light brown hair, domestic servant, a native of Cilcen, Flint- shire, last residence, Castell Farm, Coleshill Fawr, Flint; dressed in a black straw hat, short white feather, light- coloured ulster. Warrant issued. Information to the Supt, of Police, Mold.— Bow- street, October 9. Stolen from a field near Blair's Chemical Works, Iversley, between 12 noon and I p. m. on 2nd instant:— 2 Potatoe Forks, each 4 prongs, which are square, marked on the iron part of the handles ' C. T. Snelton and Co., Sheffield,' the back of one of them is marked with a wreath, and the other had a cut mark on the cross piece. By a man who was chased in the direction of Swinton, near. Manchester, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and walks very erect; was dressed iu old blue round cloth jacket, and soft cap and clogs. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Holland, Bolton.— Bow- street, October 6. Charged with embezzlement: — GEORGE HARRIS, a travelling auctioneer, or cheap jack, 34 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches high, very blotchy face, and large scar on right cheek ; dressed iu black and white trousers, black coat and vest, and black round crowned hard felt hat. He is well known in Andover aud Devizes, also at 17, King Street, Maidenhead, Berks, also at Vauxhall Flour Mills, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Ociober 0. Absconded abont 3 p. m. on 3rd instant, stealing £ 491 14s., consisting of four £ 100 Notes, four £ 20 Not9s, two £ 5 Notes, and a £ 1 Note, all of the Clydesdale Banking Company ( limited)-- MATTHEW BUCHANAN, a law clerk, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender make, black hair, almost bald, black whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, pale, j « omplexion, delicate- looking, aud speaks iu a low tone of Voice ; dressed in a dark coloured jacket suit, all made of same cloth, round felt hat, respectable appearance ; resided in Preston Street, Govanhill; has been drinking ; may be found in an hotel; will probably frequent restaurants. Supposed to have no luggage. If arrested, an officer will be sent with warrant to remove him. Information by wire to A. McCall, Chief Constable, Glasgow.— Bow- street, October C. Description of HERBERT ASHBY, wanted on warrant for stealing 16 live tame Fowls and 50 Pigeons on 8th ult. :— about 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, fair complexion, scar on nose and on left cheek, has very short finger nails, of smart appearance, and a labourer; dressed in black frock coat, light brown trousers and vest, and round hard billy hat. He was convicted at Nottingham in April, 1881, and sentenced to G months h. 1. for stealing Jewellery on the Midland Railway, and was apprehended at Stratford- on- Avon on that charge ; he has a wife living at Rugby. Charged on a warrant with stealing Wood :— a tramping umbrella mender, chair bottomer, and Bkewer maker, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, medium figure; dressed in old jacket, cord trousers, black hard felt hat. Has a woman, child, and a boy about 14 years of age with him, latter is much pockpitted. Also has a donkey and cart, aud tent which they sleep under. The woman hawks lace and skewers, pegs, & c,, which he makes. Supposed to belong to Surrey. Information to Mr. Supt. Berry, East Sussex Constabulary, East Grinstead.— Bow- street, October 4, Stolen between 7.30 and 9 p. m. on lst instant, from Box Grove Merrow :— 0 electro- plate Dishes and 4 Covers ; a seal- skin Dolman, trimmed with skunk ; a skunk Muff; a metalasse Dolman, trimmed with fur ; a travelling Bag ; a silver Card Case ; a gold watch Chain and Key ; a gold Eye- glass ; a gilt photograph Case ; a Flask ; a set of silver Bangles ; a silver Bracelet and gold Locket; 2 gold Chains-; a silver pendant; gold Ear- rings ; silver Chain and Gross. Three men were seen near the house on the night in question between 7 and 8 p. m. with a horse aud cart,— one a tall big man, the other two short ; dressed in dark clothes, appeared about 30 years of age, the horse a large bay, with light spring cart. Absconded from Willesdeii, charged with Embezzlement: — WILLIAM TACCHI, 19 years of age, 5 feet 8 iaches high, fair complexion, freckled, Blight build ; dressed in a dark blue serge suit, side spring b< ots, hard felt hat, father resides at tie Old Grammer School, Wood bridge, Suffolk. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investi- gations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolian Police, October 4. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted on a warrant for obtaining a quantity of Goods, • with intent to cheat and defraud, at Cheltenham :— EDWIN HIPKINS, about 40 year3 of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches higb, light florid complexion, sandy hair, bald on top of head, small sandy whiskers at eide of face, about 3 weeks growth, and moustache which meets at corners of mouth, clean shaved chin ; generally dressed in a black frock coat, light grey trousers, high crown hat, and is of gentlemanly appearance ; he is supposed to be accompanied by his wife and two children ( girls), the one about 9 years, and the other about 18 months old ; the woman is about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, daik hair and complexion, foreign appearance; generally dressed iu a fashionable pink dress, and black jacket, and very lady- like. He is supposed to have in his possession a large brown leather trunk, about 3 feet 6 inches long, also a brown leather hat- case, perfectly new, also a quantity of gentleman's, lady's, and children's under linen, aud ipther wearing apparel, bed linen, some costly diamond rings, pins, and other jewellery and plated goods, all of which are perfectly new. Information to Mr. Supt. Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham.— Bow- street, October 9. Description of three men wanted for obtaining money by false pretences, near Shifnal, Salop, on 3rd instant:— lot, about 30 years of age. about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout build, black moustache, 110 whiskers, very dark complexion, black hair turning grey, cut short, brown eyes, smart appear- ance ; dressed iu black ribbed jacket and vest, dark blue trouters with narrow Btripe, dark blue hard hat, and scarf pin in necktie. 2nd, about 25 to 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, Bma'. l moustache, round features, smart appearance ; dressed in black ribbed jacket and vest, light trousers, brown hard hat, scarf pin in necktie, wore a gold Albert chain. 3rd, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sandy hair, sallow complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, round features, stout build, cut mark on chin, smart appearance ; dressed in black ribbed jacket and vest, mixed cloth trousers, low black hard hat, scarf pin in necktie, wore a gold Albert chain. One of them carried a parcel bound with b'ack leather, also a ticket book, containing names of respectable persons that they say they have had money from, the duplicate of each ticket remaining in. They obtain money for some one stated by them to be in trouble, and for whom they want to niake up a certain amount. They leave cloth as surety, but not equal in value, to the amount of money received. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Meredith, Shifnal, Salop.— Bow- street, October 9. Charged on warrant with fraud :— J. P. TROMP ( late of the General Supply Stores, 2 aud 3, Wood Street, Old Street, St. Luke's), 35 or 3G years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, browrr hair, whiskers, beard and moustache ( full) sandy, mole on right cheeK, twitches his eyes, and shakes his head when walking ; dressed iu black morning coat, dark vest and trousers, high black silk hat; is of plausible roan- neis ; has been previously convicted iu the name of DAVIS ; well known to R. Leach, greengrocer, Fairfield Road, Old Ford ; to Mr. Culver, well, printer, Luton, Beds, and his brother Walter Tromp, keeps the Crown Hotel, Bridport. Dorset. Last known address, 60, Sutherland Road, Old Ford. Information to the Inspector on duty, City of London Police Station, 145, Upper Thames Street, E. C.— Bow- street. Oct. 6. The 2nd man and the woman advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo, as wanted for conspiring to defraud tradespeople at Bridlington Quay, have been apprehended and committed for trial at East Riding Quarter Sessions at Beverley on 17th inst. They gave the narues of GEORGE SIMPSON, 38 years of age, and MARY JACKSON, 27 years of age, though stating they were man and wife. It is believed he has gone under the following names in other places : - Wood, Eagleton, Guthrie. Coleman, Carling, aud Lynne ; his right name is EAGLETON, and he formerly belonged t, o Norwich. The female has called herself Watson, Wood Wilson, Allwood, and Ellwood ; her correct name is believed to be MARY MAYNE. The principal man is still at large, ana brother to the man in custody. Warrants are held lor his apprehension. He sometimes talks about having been at sea, iu merchant service, and is noticeable for having his hair untidy when indoors. Charged on a warrant, with obtaining a quantity of jewellery, by false prentences :— MORSTZ, alias DAVIES, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, florid complexion, few very sandy whiskers, supposed moustache, slender build, speaks, with a foreign accent. This bag he never loses sight of, he carries a number of London pawnbrokers' tickets for bracelets, pins, and rings, aud by falsely representing them as valuable securities, he obtains loans of money. He also inserts advertisements in the paperr, representing himself to be a tradesman in want of money to make a profitable purchase, offering bonuses to pri- vate gentleman for immediate loans ; he is accompanied by a younger and shorter man with a black beard, cut close to his face, whom he represents as his brother. W. He was convicted at the Maidstone Assises 28th October, 1880, and sentenced to ten months for forging his father's name to two cheques for £ 300 and £ 200.
