Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Kfame is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letter)! addressed to the Editor « nust t » e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ot Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Wanted on a charge of manslaughter— a man, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet f> inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, uo whiskers or moustache, two dimples in Tight cheek bone ( one about, f of an inch, the other about 1 of au inch iu diameter), which draw his eyelid a little down ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, old blue cloth trousers, <- loth cap, and a pair of old shoes. He frequents low beer- houses aud lodging- houses, where he plays a tin whistle ; he absconded about a month ago, and is tramping from town to town. Was last beard of at, Runcorn on 25th ultimo. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Beetham, Chorley.- Bow- street, Oct. 2. On the morning of 28th ultimo, the dead by of a newly- Lorn full grown female child was found in the Gill Cemetery, Bishop wearmouth, Sunderland, wrapped in a piece of brown paper, a piece of woman's plain calico nightdress, two pieces of cotton print sewed together, apparently torn off a counter- pane, one piece dark lilac, and the other blue with diagonal stripes, has shades of white across one way, and a butch of brown leaves across the other way, and tied with a piece of small twine. A coronor's inquest was held, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder agiinst some person or persons unknown' returned. Information to John Nicholson, Chief Constable, Sunderland.— Bow- street, October 2. Absconded, charged with uttering an Americau Banker's Draft, with fort<* 4 endorsement, with intent to defraud :— ELIOT RYDER, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, Blight build, sallow complexion, hair, moustache, • whiskers ( slight) and eyes, dark ; dressed in black twill frock coat, and ( generally) dark turban hat. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11 a. m. anil 6.30 p. m., 28th ultimo, from a cottage at Coven Heath, Bush- bury :— six silver Tea Spoons and a pair of silver Sugar Tougs, all with monogram ' li R.' ; aud a gold- plated Keeper Ring, buckle shape. Supposed by two tramps: 1st, 6 feet high, about 23 years of age, very thin build ; dressed in black cloth cap with cheesecutter peak, ditto jacket, and black and white woollen singlet underneath ; 2ud, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in black billycock hat and dark cloth clothes. Supposed by a man who pawned the shawl iu the name of Frederick Wilson, of Russell Street, Cambridge, on the morning of 28th Sept. ; about 38 years of age, but looks vounger, about 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, very red face and neck, supposed light coloured whiskers and moustache ; hard felt hat with flat. top. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The chestnut horse Cob advertised as stolen from a field Newcastle- under- Lyne, on 25th ultimo, has been found stray- ing— Bow- street, October 6. Stolen from a stable atihe ' New Market Tavern,' Brecrn, on 3rd instant :— a light bay Gelding, about 134 hards hiab, 2 ye3rs old, white star on forehead, white spot on nose, white ou fetlock joints, close to hoof of hind legs, small lump betweeu the hock and ham on near hind leg ; also a new single rein snaffle Bit Bridle and half- worn Saddle. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark mutton- chop whiskers, dark hair turning grey; dressed in a dark peeper and salt coloured jacket, waistcoat, aud trousers, black hard felt hat, has the appearance of a collier. Wanted on a warrant, charged with maliciously billini? a horse at Shenstone, on 23rd ultimo :— W1 LLIA M OSBORN, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a dark cloth jacket, and corded vest very red as if coloured by sand, and a new billycock hat. Information to Sergt. Pearson, Whitt- ington, near Lichfield, who holds the warrant.— Bow- sweet, October 4. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Ponv raid Curt, on 31st August last, at Keg worth :- JOHN DIXON, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, lost some of his upper front teeth, supposed to belong to Blackburn or Manchester, a hearth stone mxker;- dressed when he went away in dark grey coat and vest, and light, cloth trousers. Pony, dark cream coloured, 13J hands high, chipped on both knees, and has a wart taken otf the near ear ; a strong spring Cart painted dark chocolate col- ur. picked out with red, except the wheels, they are quite plain, brass mounted harness. This man hired the above pony and cart on 3lst August, for a. week or two, and has not returned it; he has a b > x lying at. Leicester Railway Station ; he also has two truck* laden wi'h goods standing at St. Paucras Station London, where they have been standingfor the last fortnight. Information to Mr. Snpt. Committed for trial at the ensuing Quarter Sessions at Oakham, on 19th instant,, charged with horsestealing at Langbam :— FREDERICK DAY, 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, dark grey eyes, oval face, proportionate build; mole on lett cheek, and " has lost end of third finger left hand ; a labourer. States that his father resides at Tisbury, Wiltshire. WILLIAM ROBINSON, 19 years of age. 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, browu hair, blue eyes, proportionate build, oval face, scar on right temple, several scars ou back of hands and scar ou light thigh. States he is a native of Bally- mens, Ireland, aud a gas stoker. Information to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham.— — Bow- street, October 2. Stolen from Breuchley, Kent, during the night of 30th ultimo : — a mouse or cream- coloured Pony, 18 years old, 12 hands, broken knees, black mark down back, long tail, rough maue, and iu good condition ; a small square Cart, painted dark blue, body of cart has been shifted on springs ; two Cushions, covered with American leather; and a set of black Harness, saddle pad has tandem turrets to it, one rein broken, and buckle on offside of breeching nearly off. Chemical Works, Kersley, between 12 noon and 1 p. m. on 2nd instant:— 2 Potato*! H'orkf, each 4 prongs, which are equate, marked ou the iron part of the handles ' C. T. Snelton and Co., Sheffield,' the back of one of them is marked with a wreath, and the other had a cut mark on the cross piece. By a man who was chased in the direction of Swiutou, near. Manchester, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, and walks very erect; was dressed in old blue round cloth jacket, and soft cap aud clogs. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Holland, Bolton.— Bow- street, October 6. Charged with embezzlement: — GEORGE HARRIS, a ta'avell'-> ir auctioneer, or cheap jack, 34 years of age, 5 ft. 6 iuches high, very blotchy face, and large scar on right cheek ; dresst. d iu black and white trousers, black coat and vest, ana black round crowned hard felt hat. He is well known in Andover and Devizes, also at 17, King Street, Maidenhead. Berks, also at Yauxball Flour Mills, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 6. Absconded about 3 p. m. on 3rd instant, stealing £ 491 14s., consisting of four illOU Notes, four £ 20 Notes, two £ a Notes, and a £ 1 isote, all of the Clydesdale Banking Company ( limited):— MATTHEW BUCHANAN, a law clerk, about 27 years of age, f> feet 6 inches high, slender make, black hair, almost bald, black whiskers and moustache, shaved oil chin, paletcomplexion, delicate- looking, and speaks in a low tone of voice ; dressed in a dark coloured jacket suit, all made of same cloth, round felt hat, respectable appearance ; resided in Preston Street, Govanhill; has been drinking; may- be found in au hotel; will probably frequent restaurants. Supposed to have no luggage. If arrested, an officer will be sent with warraut to remove him. Information by wire to A. McCall, Chief CoLstable, Glasgow. Bow- street, October 6. Description of HERBERT ASHBY, wanted on warrant for stealing 16 live tame Fowls and fiO Pigeons ou 8th ult. :— about 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, fair complexion, scar on nose and on left cheek, has very short f'mger nails, of smart appearance, and a labourer; dressed iu black froc. k coat, light browu trousers and vest, and round hard billy hat. He was convicted at Nottingham in April, 1881, and sentenced to C mouths h. 1. for stealing Jewellery on the Midland Railway, and was apprehended at. By a woman, 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light complexion and hair ; dressed in a striped print dress, black jacket, grey woollen shawl, and clogs. Stolen on 28th ultimo, at IV, Grand Parade, St. Leonard's- on- Sea :— 4 silver Tea Spoons— I thread pattern, 1 plain with ' S ' engraved on back, one with initials ' R. H. S.' on back, and one fiddle pattern ; 2 silver sauce Ladles— one cracked, both old, the Ilall mark on both is very loDg and indistinct; G desert Knives and Forks, plated, plain ivory handles, old and worn ; a gentleman's brown silk Umbrella, nearly new. Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 ft. 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, whiskers, beard and moustache ; dressed in dark suit, and black hard felt hat, and of gentlemanly appearance. Stolen at Bewdley, on 4th ultimo : — a woman's light brown cloth Ulster, buttoas to match material, pocket o/ i left breast, spot of gas tar on left arm:— By ELIZABETH SUGDEN, 22 years of ago, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair com- plexion, light hair, very regular front teeth, delicate and very good looking, slender figure; dressed in black serge dress, black straw hat, turned up at side and trimmed with black sateen lace, probably wearing the stolen ulster ; she is a native of Oswestry, Salop, Accompanied by her husband, FREDERICK SUGDEN, a timber measurer, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy moustache and small side whiskers, slender build and of military appearance. Information to Mr Supt. Wheeler, Police Office, Stourbridge, or to Sergeant James Herman, Town Hall, Bewdley, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bcw- street, October 2. Stolen, on 24th ult., from Finllwyn, Llanfair :— a pair of Scissors, about 7 inches long, narrow at both poiuts, bronze handle, the rivet crushed ; a iarge Reel of drab thread, for sewing- machine ; a black- hafted Razor and black Case. By a tramping labourer, about 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet " 0 or 11 inches high, brown hair, thin on back of head, small whiskers on side of face; dressed in drab jacket, cord vest and trousers, jim crow hat, and strong boots, wore leather straps round the calves of his legs over his trousers ; stated that he had been working harvest for a farmer near Llansellin, Denbighshire. Information Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welshpool, or to P. C. Breeze, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 2. 3FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged on warraut with fraud :— J. P. TROMP ( late of the General Supply Stores, 2 and 3, Wood Street, Old Street, St. Luke's), 35 or 36 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, whiskers, beard and moustache ( full) sandy, mole on right cheeK, twitches his eyes, and shakes his head when walking ; dressed in black morning coat, dark vest and trousers, high black silk hat; is of plausible man- neis ; has been previously convicted in the name of DAVIS ; well known to R. Leach, greengrocer, Fairfield Road, Old Ford; to Mr. Culverwell, printer, Luton, Beds, and his brother Walter TYomp, keeps the Crown Hotel, Bridport, Dorset. Last known address, 60, Sutherland Road, Old Ford. Information to the Inspector on duty, ( Jity of London Police Station, 145, Upper Thames Street, E. C.— Bow- street. Oct. 6. The 2nd man and the woman advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo, as wanted for conspiring to defraud tradespeople at Bridlington Quay, have been apprehended and committed for trial at East RidiDg Quarter Sessions at Beverley on 17th inst. They gave the names of GEORGE SIMPSON, 38 years of age, and MARY JACKSON, 27 years of age, though stating they were man and wife. It is believed he has gone uuder the following names in other places : — Wood, Eagleton, Guthrie, Colemau, Catling, and Lynne ; his right name is EAGLETON, and he formerly belonged to Norwich. The female has called herself Watson, Wood, Wilson, Allwood, and Ellwood ; her correct name is believed to be MARY MAYNE. The principal man is still at large, ana brother to the man in custody. Warrants are held for his apprehension. He sometimes talks about having been at sea, in merchant service, ami is noticeable for having his hair untidy wlieu indoors. Charged on a warrant, with obtaining a quantity of jewellery, by false prentenees :— MORSTZ, alias DAVIES, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches higb, florid complexion, few very sandy whiskers, supposed moustache, slender build, speaks, with a foreign accent. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detec- tive Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, Lon- don, E. C.— Bow- street, October 4. Charged on warrant with obtaining, by false pretences, a gold scarf Pin, wheel- shaped, with dome in centre for stone : — GEORGE CHRISTIAN, about 30 years of aire, about 5 feet 9 inches higb, of gentlemanly appearance, black hair, full beard, cut rather short, very slightly pockmarked, and slight build ; dressed in dark clothes and an overcoat, wore in his necktie a gold pin wit h a large stone in the centre, surrounded with brilliants, two rings ou little finger, one set with blue stone, the other with red, twisted Albert, very small size rope pattern, alternate distances of about au inch being silver and gold, reaching from one pocket to the other, a gold keyless watch on one end, two keys on the other ; wears a pair of eye- glasses in tortoiaeshell frames suspended inside the flap of his coat, but did not appear to require their services ; carries a magnify ing glass without a frame in his waistcoat pocket ;• is apparently a foreigner, says he is a native of Paris, and repre- sents himself as a diamond merchautand jeweller knd carries a black leather glazed hand bag, containing jewellery and stones. He stays with his company at inns, and pays with a fraudulent cheque on London and Provident Bank. He has a father, a jeweller and pawn- broker, residing at 100, Terminus- road, Eastbourne ; also relations at 66, Vauxhall Bridge- road, London, and Petersham House, Walham, S. W. He was convicted at the Maidstone Assises 28th October, 1880, and sentenced to ten months for forging his father's name to two cheques for £ 300 and £ 200.
