O. • » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor tmast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. < 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tiio persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without tihe apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AID MAI. ICIOUSI. ir WOUNDING. On 8th instant, a verdict ot ' Wilful Murder' was returned by a coroner's jury against some person or persons unknown, for the wilful murder by strychnine poisoning, on 10th August last, of Mrs. Emma Howell, of Sussex- street, Cambridge. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to auy perso" ( other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to Mr. Wm. G. Turrali, Chief Supt... Borough Police Office, Cambridge.— Bow- street, September 22. FORGERY. Wanted at Ledbury, charged with forgery :- CHAS. EDWARD AUDLEY LLOYD ( late Surveyor to the Led- bury Highway Board), about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches hi< rh, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, inclined to curl, fresh complexion, smart, genteel appearance ; generally wearing a light suit of tweed, and black band on arm. He absconded on 22nd instant. Information to Mr. Supt. James Smith, Police Station, Ledbury, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, September 29. Wanted on a warrant, charged with forgery :— CHAS" ARTHUR MAR. SDEN JENKINS ( late of Lane's Hotel, St. Alban's Place, Regent Street), 27 years of age, 5 ft 6 ins. high, dark complexion, small daric moustache, broad nose, and smart appearance ; dresses well, and wears an eyeglass. Formerly a Solicitor. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.- Bow- street, September 29. Absconded, charged with felony:— TH03. ROBERT BARTRUM, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, fair ( heavy) moustache, and no whiskers or beard ; dressed in grey mixture tweed suit, button boots, hard felt bat, respectable appearance, and a clerk; his mother resides at We3tbury Road, Paddington, and friends at Abing- don, Berks, or Oxford, with whom he is supposed to be staying. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, September 29. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a little girl, at Eccles, at 7.30 p. m., 23rd instant:— a Shilling in Money. By a woman, about 30 yesrs of age, thin figure; dressed in a dark dress, black and white shawl, dark hat with a red flower ; no better description can be given. Information to County Police Office, Old Tralford, Manchester.— Bow- street, September 29. Stolen from the person of a boy at Patricroft, about 6 p. m., 23rd instant:— 2s. in Silver. Also Stolen from the person of a boy at Patricroft, about 8 p. m., 23rd instant:— 2s. 8d. in Money. Also Stolen, about 7 p. m., at Patricroft, from the person of a girl :— a black cloth lady's Jacket, with fringe round the bottom of pockets; a brown Dress, kilted at the bottom ; a pair of lady's lace- up Boots, with tips on the heels. Also Stolen from the person, at Patricroft Bridge, about 8.30 p. m., 23rd instant :— a Bass, containing three white Sheets, a white Dress, and a Tablecloth. All the above- mentioned articles, & c., are supposed to have been stolen by the same person :— a woman, dressed in a black dress, black and white shawl, black bonnet with a red rose in it ; no better description of her can be given at present. Her modus operandi is to meet children in the street, who she can see is going on an errand to a shop, she will stop and ask them to go for a parcel for her to some shop ( which she says she had left there), promising to give the child 2d. when it returns, at the same time asking the child to leave its basket, & c., with her until it returns, and by the time that the child has returned, the woman has decamped. Stolen from the person in the Suburban Booking Office, Liverpool Street Station, Great Eastern Railway, about 2 30 p. m., on 23rd instant :— a gold Watch, white face, steel hands, English make, engine turned, circular shield, fleur- de- lis crest, No. 7166, and maker's name Thomas. Information to W. Robinson, Supt. of Police, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool Street, E. C.— Metropolian Police, September 27. Charged with larceny from the person, at Redcar, on 9th ultimo :— a man, about 40 vears of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, ordinary make, dark hair, full thin beard, and sunburnt face ; dressed iu blue shooting coat, and square felt hat; was accompanied by a man who is lame. Information to Mr. Supt. gClarkson, Constabulary Office, Guisboro', North Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen from the pi rso i on the highway, at Llanwddyn, between 9 p. m. 23rd, md 1 a. ru. 24th instant :— a silver Watch, No. 18767, letters with ' Improved patent' written on face, and a very small crack near figure 10 or 11. Stolen from the person on 23rd instant: - a silver Verge Watch, capped aud jewelled, No. 3639, slightly damaged on the dial near figure C, enclosed in a brass ease ' No. 3' marked on it, had a steel Chain aud two watch Keys attached. Supposed stolen from the person on 22nd instant, at Folkestone :— a gold| internationaljlever Watch, open face, No. 5889. Information to the Chief Superintendent, Folkestone. — Bow- it., Sept. 2o. Stolen on 21st instant from the person, at the Shrub Hill Railway Station, Worcestera Purse containing two Sovereigns, one Half Sovereign, a railway Ticket from Led- bury to Burton- on- Trent, and a £ 5 Note of the Bank of Eng- land, which had been cut in two, and the two halves were united with a piece of adhesive paper bearing the words ' New Invention,' and some other words. £% reward will be paid for such information as shall load to the apprehension of the thief, and recovery of the money, on application to the Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, September 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of WILLIAM GOODWIN ( address re- fused), who is committed tor trial to the Central Criminal Court Sessions, 16 th proximo, for burglary and threatening to shoot:— 40 years of age, 5 feet 31 iuches high, dark com- plexion, hazel eyes, dark slight moustache, no whiskers, scar on right temple, mole on right blade bone between shoulders, and has nervous twitching of the eyes when speaking; dressed in black diagonal coat, blue pilot vest, dark tweed trousers, side- spring boots, white- calico shirt, cotton under shirt and drawers, white collar, blue tie, and hard felt hat. Stolen between 10 and 11 p. m. on 18th iDstant, from a shop in Margate ( entrauce effected by means of forciug a window at the back) : — 11 ladies' Geneva Watches, one gold ( engraved back), ten silver ( one semi- hunter). t 2 gents' silver Genevas. 2 silver Necklets, one solid, the e. ther hollow. b large silver Lockets, six chased, one with gold birds, the other with gold start. 60 ladies' fancy Dress Rings, 9- carat. 2 ditto, 15- carat, one with two topaz and three pearls. 8 gold Scarf Pins, button pattern, two oval, six round. 23 gold Charms : five ships, aud wheel and compasses, one Bteam engine, one perambulator, one bird cage, one opera- glass, one button hook with coral handle, one mouse trap, one whistle ( part chased), one watch key with topaz, three barrels ( one large), six fish, and one watch key ( with two birds on top). 24 silver Charms, consisting of whistles, fish, pigs, com- passes, keys, and ' Faith, Hope, and Charity.' 3 solid silver Fusee Cases, one large ( chased and hall marked), two smaller ( one chased, one plaie). A reward of JtlO will be given for such information as will lead to apprehension and conviction of thief or thieves, and a further reward of .£ 10 for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Buckland, on 23rd instant:— a black cloth Coat, with pockets at side, and one on left breast; two dark tweed Vests ; a pair of plaid Trousers ; two flannel Shirts ; a black hard felt Hat; aud about £ i in Gold and Silver. Supposed by three men, who took tickets from Betchwortli to Croydon, same day :— lst, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stubby beard, hair cut short; dressed in a long grey coat, and black hard felt hat ( supposed the stolen one) ; 2ud, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stubby beard, hair cut short; dressed in dark clothe?, and cap with peak ; 3rd, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, and wore a moustache ; dressed in black pilot jacket, dark trousers, and cap with peak; had the appearance of costermongers. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Aston, between 7th and 23rd inst:— a gilt Timepiece, with a figure represent- ing Mary Queen of Scots, sitting on a chair, with a book in her hand ; a Mackintosh, light grey, with light plaid lining, velvet collar, to fit a youth about 12 years of age ; a Ham, about 14 lb. weight. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Police Station, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- strest, Sept. 2D. Stolen by mear. s of housebreaking, at Birmingham, during night of 22ud or morning of 23id instant :— a lady's full length sealskin Jacket, lined with brown quilted satin, the front has recently been relined with same material which does not look so worn, and fastens with hooks and eyes ( very valuable) ; two pairs of gent's lace- up Boots, size 7, books at top ; six Antimascassars, and about £ 2 in Gold and Silver. Information to the Chief Constable, Birmingham.— Bow- st, September 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING- Found ( supposed stolen,) at Awbridge, near Wolver- bamptou, on 21st instant: — a bay Horse colt 2 years old, about 1 \ hands high, black mane and tail near hind foot white, and in good condition. Information to Sergeant J. Hammond, Police Station . jWimborne, near Wolverhampton.— Bow- street, September 29. Charged on warrant with stealing two Bullocks and two Heifers, on 18th instant, from Losely Park WILLIAM HEELS, about 33 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 8 inches high, hazel eyes, sallow complexion, long face, dark hair, rather heavy durk moustache and whiskers, proportionate 4 P O L I C E GAZ E T T E . September 22 build, scar on left side of nose, lias lor . of left thumb- nail, and has a very prominent veir . ntre of forehead, a labourer, and has served some the Leicestershire Militia; dressed either in dark Tduroy trousers, light tweed jacket and vest, round 1 jilly hat, and elastic side boots, or light grey plaid troir| , dark check coat, navy blue serge trousers, dark corded cloth waistcoat, new snuff- coloured pair of trousers and vest, hard billy hat, and a pair of nearly new laced boots. Information to Capt. Grinston, County Office, Leicester, or to Inspector Bott, County Constabulary Office, East Norton, by whom all expenses will be paid.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 18th instant :— an aged light grey mare Pony, about 13 hands high, spavined both legs, knees badly broken, square tail, and in poor condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a field at Willenhall, on or about 20tU inst. : — a red roan cart House, aged, 16 hands high, very low in front, white star on forehead, off hind foot white, white spot on back, large belly, marks round neck from boils, newly shod, and in good condition. Longden, Bilston, or to Inspector Cook, Police Office, Willen- hall.— Bow- street, September 27, Stolen from a field at Nazeing, Essex, during the night of 20th instant:— a bay carriage Horse, 10 or 12 years old, 16 hands high, saddle marked, one hind foot white, square- cut tail, low on the pasterns when standing, in good condi- tion, and without shoes. Lennon Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, September 25 Stolen on the night of 28th instant, from Louidon Com- mon, near Billericay, Essex:— a bay nag Horse, aged, 14 hands high, overshot near fore fetlock, in good condition. Three men, who drive a gibbing horse, are suspected : one is very tall. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, September 25. The bay Mare supposed stolen from a field at Kexby, dur- ing the night of 17th instant, has been found. W. 11. [ LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded, 18th instant, charged with stealing money from his employer :— ANDREW HODGE, potman, 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slim build, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, clean shaved, tattoo marks on both hands and aims ( including ' A. H.' on onej, and on right ear ; dressed in black jacket and vest, dark trousers, lace boots, felt hat; a Scotchman. Supposed in company with JOHN ABEL, 17 years of age ; also Scotch. Both speak with Scotch accent. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Thomas Plumb, ' Hick's Tavern,' King- street, Soho, for the apprehension of Hodge. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations. Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, September 29. Stolen at Goldthorn Hill, Penn Fields, on 27th instant: — a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, with six lace holes at front, part worn ; a pair man's watertight Boots with brass eyelet holes, three hooks at top, tips on heels, soles nailed with forged Stubbs; a pair of man's Blucher Boots, three eyelet holes each side, one boot has been repaired under the toe ; a pair of man's black cloth Trousers, fUp fronts, much worn ; a brown rep Dress, much worn; an old brown knitted Guernsey, man's size, brown bone buttons, much worn ; and an old black Skirt, with a few white spots on it. Also stolen at Bradmore, Penn Fields, on 27th instant:— a pair of lady's high lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets, much worn. Supposed by a woman who was seen hawking writing paper in the neighbourhood, about 22 years of age, 5 ft. 2 its. high, light complexion and hair, medium build ; dressed in a dark dress, jacket and hat, and a white scarf round neck. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longden, Constabulary Office, Bilston, or to Sergeant Goodall, Police Station, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 25. Charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, recovered :— JOHN HCGHES, a working watchmaker, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair and mous- tache, turning grey, rather stout . build ; a native of Man- chester ; dressed in dark blue serge suit, and hard black felt hat. Informatior to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Sept. 29. EPHRAIM HALL, alias BELLAMY, advertized in the Police Gazette of 25tli instant, has been apprehended, and remanded to 2ud proximo, when several charges of embezzlement will be preferred against him. He states that he has been employed as a stableman at Newmarket up to the commencement of 1882. Information to Chief Constable Pemberton, Guildhall, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 29. Stolen on 25th inst? nt:— a small gold Watch, name on inside ' Hockfield, Westbourne Grove, late Benson'; a gold Necklet, with Locket attached, word • Mizpah' on outside, a photo of a gentleman inside; also two silver Brooches, one a shell pattern. By a man who lodged at the house only a few nights ; he is 23 to 26 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, very small moustache, no whiskers ; pepper- and- salt- coloured suit, dark striped necktie, fiat head silver scarf pin, black billycock hat, and carried a small black bag. Warrant issued. Warrant issued for the appreheniion of HENRY MOULDER, for embezzlement; he absconded on 25th inst., is from 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stoops when walking ; has had some injury to his back ; has a few whiskers side of face, shaves the upper lip and chin, and very polite in his manners ; dressed in a tweed coat, very much worn, dark blue trousers, split in one of the pockets, black felt hat, generally wears shoes; he was employed in selling milk. Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, Windsor.— Bow- st., Sept. 29. Wanted at Brynmawr, Breconshire, charged with stealing on 21th instant, from a dwelling- house at Rassau, Brecon- shire :— a gold lever Watch, No. not known, a gold Albert Chain with Compass attached ; a black cloth monkey Jacket, two buttons on each sleeve, two buttons on skirt behind, pockets on hips, and one on inside of left breast; black soft Hat with three small buttons on band ; a pair of strong nailed Boots, nearly new ; and £\ 5s. in Money. LLEWELLYN LLEWELLYN, of Rhondda Valley, Glamorganshire, haulier, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light or sandy hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in the stolen hat, jacket and boots, old moleskin trousers. Information to Mr. Supt, Joseph, Crickhowell, or to P. S. Williams, Brynmawr, Breconshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 29, Charged on warrant with embezzlement:— MORGAN JOHN DIBBEN, a baker, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 to 5 inches high, slightly built, pale face, black hair, short dark whiskers at side of face, and dark moustache; has lost the sight of right eye, which has a white speck across it in Bhape of half- moon ; dressed in new suit of grey and brown tweed, very narrow stripes, brown mixture tweed overcoat ( very common material), new Bide- spring boots with toecaps, and soft black felt hat. Supposed to be carrying a rather shabby grey suit. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Consta- bulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, September 27. Charged on warrant with stealing a silk Umbrella, recovered, at Ystradgunlais, Breconshire, on 11th July last; — EVAN MTLE8, a travelling tinker and umbrella mender, about 2t years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout figure, dark complexion, brown hair, no whiskers ; is a native of Ystradgunlais ; usually dresses in dark cloth coat and waistcoat, moleskin trousers, and cloth cap, with tassel ; very much addicted to drink and fighting. Supposed to have a pedlar's certificate with him. Information to Mr. Supt. Flye, Chief Constables Office, Brecon, or to Sergeant Johns, Police Station, Ystradgunlais, who holds the warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 27. Stated he was an engineer on the railway, and come to reside at Kettering, obtained his dinner and tea, and then decamped with the money, saying he was going to the station for his luggage. By a woman, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark hair and eyes, thin sallow pale face ; dressed in black dress, black jacket, buttoned down front, and reaching nearly to the knee, fitting up tight round neck, black fashionable hat or bonnet, fitting tight on the head, tied under chin, black fall, wreath of flowers round front, and pink flower on one side ; appeared far advanced in pregnancy, supposed fictitious, carried a news- paper parcel, containing a dark maroon dress, quite new, trimmed with black satin ; she was traced to Beeston, in Cheshire, apparently making for Crewe, en route for Liver- pool or Manchester; wore a wedding ring and keeper, and spoke with a Cheshire accent, appearance of a dressmaker Information to Mr. Supt. Hull, Lowestoft, and Glasgow, about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, thick dark whiskers and moustache ; rtspectable appearance and good address ; rather nervous manner, walks quickly, hands mostly in trousers pockets, looked rather askance with eyes; dressed in dark coat, light open- fronced waistcoat, iight trousers, rather frayed at heels, square- toed boats. Second man, medium height, 35 to 38 years of age, rather like the first in features, but thinner and fairer; shabbily rather than respectably dressed; carries right shoulder considerably forward and left arm back when walking. Woman, about 32 years of age, short, shabby; dressed in drab ulster and broad- brimmed hat. Their mode of proceeding is : the first man takes a shop, and orders fixtures and fittings from local tradesmen, also obtains on strength of this, furniture for one or two rooms of house, endeavouring to obtain on credit articles of clothing, ' to be sent to the shop,' meantime lodging and boarding in respectable house near by himself; the other man and the woman lodging elsewhere, but' to enter the shop as soon as fit, to carry on the business.' These men came to Skegness on 11th instant, by the excursion train from London, and took lodgings at the house when they committed the robbery.
