As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all lietter* addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insortion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and at Absentee* and Deserters from tho Militia, should be forwarded <- n War Offloe Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for tcsertion in th* POLICE GAZETTE. N PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazotte" no longer necessary, INFORMATIONS. ' MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 8th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned by a coroner's jury against some person or persons unknown, for the wilful murder by strychnine poisoning, on 10th August last, of Mrs. Emma Howell, of Sussex- street, Cambridge. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any persoi ( other than a f erson belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give sucli information and evidence as shall lead to tho discovery and conviction of the murderer or muiderers, and tho Secietary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall givo sucli evidence as shall lead to a like result. Supposed stolen from the person on 22ud instant, at Folkestone :— a gold international lever Watch, open face, No. 8889. Information to the Chief Superintendent, Folkestone. — Bow- it., Sept. 25. Stolen fr im the person of a little boy, at 11 30 a, m., 18th instant, at Longsight:— Half lb. of Butter, a 2 lb. loaf of Bread, aud a small market Bag. By a boy, about 12 years of age, light complexion ; dressed in a black jacket, white vest, dark tweed trousers, hard felt bat. Information to County Police Office, Old trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, Sept. 25. Stolen on 21st instant from the person, at the Shrub Hill Railway Station, Worcester:— a Purse containing two Sovereigns, one Half Sovereign, a railway Ticket from Led- bury to Burton- on- Trent, and a £ 5- Note of the Bank of Eng Land, which had been cut in two, and tho two halves were united with a piece of adhesive paper bearing tbe words ' New Invention,' acd somo other words. £ t reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the thief, and recovery of the money, on application to the Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- Ureet, September S2. Stolen from tho person :— a silver lever Watch and Chain, makers name ' Vales, Bury St. Edmunds,' No. 15591, eifpposed by a man, 5 feet C inches h'gh, 40 years of age, small whiskers under chin, and slight moustache, thin features; dressed in fustian trousers, drabett slop and chummy hat. Stolen between 10 and 11 p. m. on 18th instant, from a shop in Margate ( entrance effected by means of forcing a window at the back) : — 11 ladies'Geneva Watches, one gold ( engraved back), ten silver ( one semi- hunter). 2 gents' silver Genevas. 2 silver Necklets, one solid, the other hollow. b large silver Lockets, six chased, one with gold birds, the other with gold stars. 60 ladies' fancy Dress Rings, 9- carat. 2 ditto, 15- carat, one with two topaz and three pearls. 8 gold Scarf Pins, button pattern, two oval, fix round. 23 gold Charms : five ships, and wheel and compasses, one steam engine, one perambulator, one bird cage, one opera- glass, one button hook with coral handle, one mouse trap, one whistle ( part chased), one watch key with topaz, three barrels ( one large), six fish, and one watch key ( with two birds on top). 24 silver Charms, consisting of whistles, fish, pigs, com- passes, keys, and ' Faith, Hope, and Charity.' 3 solid silver Fusee Cases, one large ( chased and hall marked), two smaller ( one chased, one plaie). A reward of £ 10 will be given for such information as will lead to apprehension and conviction of thief or thieves, and a further reward of £ 10 for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Buckland, on 23rd instant:— a black cloth Coat, with pockets at side, and one on left breast; two dark tweed Vts! s ; a pair of plaid Trousers ; two flannel Shirts ; a black hard felt Hat; and about £ 4 in Gold and Silver. Supposed Ly three men, who took tickets from Betchworth to Croydon, same day :— 1st, about 26 jears of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stubby beard, hair cut short; dressed in a long grey coat, and black hard felt hat ( supposed the stolen one) ; 2nd, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stubby beard, hair cut short; dressed in datk clothes, and cap with peak ; 3rd, about 2G years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, and wore a moustache ; dressed in black pilot jacket, dark trousers, aixl cap with peak; had the appearance of coatermongers. Information to Mr. Supt. Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bcw-: treet, Sept. 25. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Aston, between 7th aud 23rd inst: — a gilt Timepiece, with a feure represent- ing Mary Queen of Soots, sitting on a chair, with a book in her hand ; a Mackintosh, light grey, with light plaid lining, velvot collar, to fit a youth about 12 years of age ; a Ham, about 14 lb. weight. Information, to Mr. Supt. Walker, Police Station, Aston, near Birmingham,— Bow- sireet, Sept. 25. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Birmingham, during night of 22nd or morning of 23rd irstant :— a lady's full length sealskin Jacket, lined with brown qnilted satin, the front has recently been relined with same material which does not look so worn, and fastens with hocks and eyes ( very valuable); two pairs of gent's laoe up Boots, size 7, hooks at top ; six Antimaccassars, and about £ 2 in Gold and Silver. Information to the Chief Constable, Birmingham.— Bow- st, September 25. The Glove Manufactory of Messrs. Dent, Allcroft & Co., Worcester, having b° en entered at about 2 a. m. 18th instant, and £ 61 stolen therefrom (£ 55 in Silver, £ 5 in Gold, and £ 1 in Bronze). A reward of £ 20 will be paid for Buch informa- tion as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to M. Power, Head Co: stable, City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, September 20. Between 2 and 3 o'clock on the morning of 16th instant, the shop window of Mr. Knight, draper, & c., of Byfleet, was broken and a Jacket, 3 pairs of Trousers, grey mixture, and 2 hard felt Hats stolen ( all very common). Information to Mr. Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey. — Bow- street, September 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Nazeing, Essex, during the night of 20th instant:— a bay carriage Horse, 10 or 12 years old, 16 hands high, saddle marked, one hind foot white, square- cut tail, low on the pasterns when standing, in good condi- tion, ard without shoes. Lennon, Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex.— Bow- slreet, September 25 Stolen on the night of 28th instant, from Louidon Com- mon, near Billericay, Essex:— a bay nag Horse, aged, 14 hands high, overshot near fore fetlock, in good condition. Three men, who drive a gibbing horse, is suspected : one is very tall Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, September 23. The bay Mare supposed stolen from a field at Kexby, dur* ing the night of 17th instant, has been found. W. If. Information to Mr. Superintendent Edwards, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Davies, Police Station, Much Wenlock.— Bow- st., Sept. 18. Horse, Cart, and Harness, advertised in Police Gazette of 15th instant, as stolen from East Grinstead on 2nd instant, have been recovered, the offender has not yet been appre- hended. Information to Mr. Supt. Geo. Berry, East Grin- stead.— Bow- street, September 18. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description cf WILLIAM HERBERT, wanted at Bir- mingham, charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of Wearing Apparel, on 16th instant:— 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, fair hair, proportiouate build, stammers when speaking ; dressed in dark clothes, smait appearance. Will probably seek employment at circuses, or the Swiss and Alpine Choirs, now travelling through the country. It is specially requested that Chief Officers will cause enquiries to be made at the above places, and wire. Information to J. Farcdale, Chief Constable, Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 25. Stolen at Chesterfield, on the night of 21st instant:— a black ribbed cloth Overcoat, new, bound with black braid. By a Jew, tailor, 26 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches higb, dark complexion ; dressed iu black coat and vest, light trousers, and black silk cap. Information to Ed ward Emery, Head Constable, Chesterfield.— Bow- street,, September 25. CHARLES WATSON, alias ALFRED FOX of King's Lynn, the person advertised in Police Gazette of the 22nd inst. for stealing the Watchjat Chatteris on the 10th inst., has been arrested. Information to Wm. King, Inspector of Police, Police Station, Chatteris, Isle of Ely.— Bow- street, September 2f « Stolen from a stable at Betchworth on 21st instant:— a silver lever Watch, plain case, maker's name ' Edwards and Son, 19, Poultry, E. C., and at Glasgow, No. 2345,' with silver link chain attached. Supposed by a man, about 26 years of age, 5 feet. 6 inches high, sandy moustache ; dressed in a shabby grey suit of slothes, black hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt.. Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.—£ ow- ttreet, September 25. Daring 19th instant, tho alms- boxes of four churches were forced open and the contents stolen, supposed committed by same man as described in informations from Bourne, Lincolnshire, and Thrapstone, Northamptonshire, in Police Gazette of 11th and 18th instant. Information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, Oxford.— Bme- street, September 25. Stolen at Longsight, between 9 a. m. 13lh & 9a. m. 14tli inst: — a gent's iight- brown Top Coat, single- breasted, two pockefa outside and ticket pocket, liued with brown Italiau cloth, brown cloth covered buttons, far worn; a gent's dark grey Top Coat, single- breasted, two pockets outside, ticket pocket, and pocket outside left breast, lined with dark brown winsey and cloth covered buttons, has been newly bound with blac- r braid, the Coat is far worn. Supposed by a man who lodged at tbe house one night and left the following morning, about 40 or 45 yea> s of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, freBh complexion, black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark coat, black velvet ve9t, black clotli trousers, and black billycock hat. September 2b Cliargod on a warrant with stealing from Lower House Farm near Ellesmere, on or about 25th ultimo, 6 fleeces of Wool:— THOMAS FINN, alias DICK TURPIN, about 45 yoars of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, medium build, rather thin face, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, brown hair, and tarns his feet out slightly when walking ; dressed in a black billycock hat, dirty white slop or grey jacket, and uarrow ribbed cord trousers, he is a pedlar, but has no certifi- cate, generally carries a bag, and collects rags, bones and skins. He is well known amongst marine store dealers, lodging house keepers, & o., in Cheshire and North Shropshire. He is of drunken habits, and when in drink is very noisy and talkative. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Walters, Ellesmere, Salop, who holds the warrant. — Bow- street, September 22. Description of a man who gave the name of KUSKA, charged on warrant with stealing from a bedroom at Ketter- ing, on 10th instant ( where ho had obtained private lodgings), a black leather Purse, containing lis. in Silver:— about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, dark completion, dark browu whiskers and moustache, and bald ou top head; dressed iu brown or drab cloth overcoat, black cloth coat and vest, brown trousers, laco- up boots, and black soft billycock hat with rather wide brim, has a respectable appearauce ; speaks a foreign accent, wears rings on fingers of both bands, also a silver watch with large gold guard, which is visible at his breast, and has lockets and coins attached, aud carries a black gladstone bag and umbrella. Stated he was an engineer on the railway, and come to reside at Kettering, obtained his dinner and tea, and then decamped with the money, saying he was going to the station for his luggage. Information to Mr. Supt. Botterill, Kettering.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen 4th instant from Deptford :— a Pianoforte Organ, looking- glass iu front with wooden slide, two wheels painted red. By a youth 18 years of age, dark hair, clean shaved-, ecar palm of loft hand, supposed to be travelling through Kent and Sussex, obtaining a living by playing tho organ. Is said to have visited Maidstone and Chatham last week. Informa- tion to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Groat Scot- land Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan 1' olice, September 22. Description of EPHRAIM HALL, alias BELLAMY, wanted under a warrant for embezzlement:— he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light sandy hair, fair com- plexion, thin face, no whiskers or moustache, slightly round shouldered, a groom, supposed native of Great Stukeley, Huntingdon ; when last seen was dressed in check coat and vest, dark cloth trousors, blue striped shirt, lace- up boots and hard black felt hat. Information to Chief Constable Pem- berton, Guildhall, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., Sept. 22. Wanted on warrant for felony:- WALTER LANGDON SCOTT, late of No. 4, Russoli- road, Seven Sisters- road, holloway, a clerk, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, whisker*, aud moustache ( slight); dressed iu snuff- colourod trousers, frock coat, and high hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow St., September 20. Wanted under a warrant for stealing a Watch ( recoverod), and jet Necklace :— FREDK. MINHORST, a travelling watch and clock cleaner, about 50 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches high, proportionate build, swarthy complexion, dark grey hair and moustache; dressed iu grey coat and trousers, and black hard hat, a native of Germany, and formerly resided at Brighton. He is charged with stealing another Watch ( not recovered), a small silver Geneva, No 41695, ' James Barnett, Colwall Green,' scratched inside case. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Smith, Police Station, Ledbury, Here- fordshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen between the 1st aud 8th instant, from a cottage at Rodmill Farm, Eastbourne:— an old silver English verge Watch, open face, steel hands, engine- turned case, out of repair, either the chain or spring being broken ; aud a small square plain gold Brooch, with a glass in tho centre. Sup- posed by a woman, who slept in the house three night?, aud has absconded, about 19 yoars of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, and medium figure ; dressed iu black hit, trimmed with black velvet, and red flowers in front,' black cloth jacket, bluesorge dress, aud button boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne.— Bow- st., Sept. 20. Absconded from the Greek barque ' Nazareth,' lying in the Lynn Dock, on 18th instaut, charged with stealing about £ 13 iu Gold, consisting of £ 5 iu English, £ 7 in Turkish and £ 1 in French money :— the ships steward, about 17 or 18 years of ago, 5 feet 2 inches high, black hair, olive complexion, slight traces of growing moustache; dressed in brown guernsey vest, old blue trousers, BOW boots aud sailor's cap, left Lynn at 8 15 a. ni. 19th iustant, for Liverpool Street, London, he cannot speak English. Information by telegraph to Mr. Supt. Geo. Ware, Police Office, King's Lynn.— Bow- street, September 20, FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged on wairaut, at Chippenham, with obtaining £ 2 3s 6d., by false pretences, on 16th instant, by giving a Cheque ou the Australian Bank, No. 1, Bank Buildings, Lothbury, London, having no account there :— a man who the name Of WYNNE C. S. GRAY, 6, Westbourne ftak Crescent, Harrow road, Haddington ; he is about, 30 years of age, about 6 feet 1 iuoh higb, upper front teeth pro- ject a little, light brown hair, slight whiskers and moustache, chin Bhaved, parts his hair iu centre, lisps a little when talk- ing, of good address and gentlemanly appearance; dressed in dark blue diagonal coat, light tweed trousers, lace- up boot?, low black felt hat. Had with him a brown leather hat box aud portmaateau; had in his possession a number of cards, on which was printed ' W. S. Gray,' also written on them • Auckland, New Zealand,' where he stated he had beoi. living. This mau'd practice appears to be to stay at first class hotols, aud representing that he has friends in the neighbourhood, thereby obtaining credit. He left Chippenham by tho 12.30 train on ICth instant, aud booked for Faddington. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Barrett, Wilts Constabulary, Chippenham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Stptmbcr 25. Description of ROBERT BIRCH, jun„ and JOHN BIRCH, gipsies, charged under a warrant with night poach- ing at Doulting, on night of 15th instant, and also with assaulting Police Constables Edwards and Horler:— Robert Birch is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light complexion, sunburnt face, browu hair, small whiskers at sides of face, light moustache, and proportionately built; dressed generally in brown sleeve waistcoat, old corduroy troiuem, soft black bowler hat, and sometimes wears a long dark overcoat. John Birch ia about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, summer moles all over face, brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed generally in old brown coat, corduroy trousers, cloth cap with earflaps, and has also a grey mixture suit. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of 2 men and a woman wanted for obtaining goods by fraud from tradesmen and lodging-. house keepers at Bridlington Quay, on 16th and 18th instant:— 1st man stated he belonged to the firm of Kirkland Brothers, fruit merchants, and had places in Hull, Lowestoft, and Glasgow, about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, thick dark whiskers and moustache ; rtspectable appearance and good address; rather nervous manner, walks quickly, hands mostly in trousers pockets, looked rather askance with eyes; dressed in dark coat, light open- fronted waistcoat, light trousers, rather frayed at heels, square- toed boots. Second mau, medium height, 35 to 38 years of age, rather like the first in features, but thinner and fairer; shabbily rather than respectably dressed; carries right shoulder considerably forward and left arm back when walking. Woman, about 32 years of age, short, shabby; dressed in drab ulster and broad- brimmed hat. Their mode of proceeding is : the first man takes a shop, and .-. rders fixtures and fittings from local tradesmen, also obtains on strength of this, furniture for one or two rooms of house, endeavouring to obtain on credit articles of clothing,' to be sent to the shop,' meantime lodging and boarding in respectable house near by himself; the other man and the woman lodging elsewhere, but' to enter the shop as goon as fit, to carry on the business.'
