Notice.— It if requested that all oommunicationi for the norpoM of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tagether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all lietters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the'insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expactation of reward for the return of the property, without ihe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either ( o insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering She supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Absconded on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with forgery and embezzling large sums of Money :— EADON FOSTER, a clerk, late of 71, Charrington- street, St. Pancras, ' London, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, black hair and moustache, no beard or whiskers, rather sallow complexion, full face, proportionate build; dressed when last seen in dark clothes, and black deerstalker hat. Suppose4 to have in his possession about £ 800 in Gold, and a number of £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 30808, 30809, 30812, 30813, 30816, 30817, dated 9th June, 1882, and 43432 lo 43441, dated 10th Juiie, 1882, and six blank Cheques, on Messrs. Gljn, Mills « Sc Company, Bankers, Lombard- street, A Nos. 139069 to 130074. £ 60 reward will be paid to any person who may give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said Eadon Foster, and a further reward of £ 50 for the recovery of the money, or a sum in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen from the person in Manchester, on 11th inst. :— a gold detached Lever Watch, maker ' Harrison, Liverpool, No. 8472/ had attached a gold Albert, curb pattern, each link stamped '' 18 ct.' £ 5 reward will be given by the owner on recovery of watch and guard and conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen from the person on the night of 12t, h instant, at High Leigh, Cheshire :— a silver Lever Watch, No. 7530, makers name ' Blackhurst' on face, and the name of owner * H. Burgess' engraved inside back case. Information to Mr. Supt. Leighton, Constabulary Office, Altrincham, Cheshire. - Bow- ttreet, August 23. Stolen from the person at Weston- super- Mare Horse Show, on 15th instant:— a silver English double- caaed lever Watch, No. 60928, and ' J. H.' engraved on outp>- case. Also a silver consular lever Watch, No. 14590, maker ' Rossiter.' Information to Mr. Supt. Gillbanks, Axbridge, or to Sergeant Sticklan, Weston- super- Mare, Somerset.— Bow- st., Aug. 21. Notice respecting alleged robbery from the persos at Claverton, near Chester, on the 11th instant, advertised in Police Gazette of 16th instant. No robbery took place ; the articles have been recovered, having been thrown in the river Dee at Great Boughton, near Cheater, by the owner Mary Rossbottom. Description of two navvies who absconded on 14th inst.. from the Dideot, Newbury, and Southampton Railway, now in course of construction at Burghclere. Hants, charged on warrant with highway robberv :— GEORGE BLACKMAN, alias MOULDER, alias BRENNING or BRENNAN, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, much pockpitted, brown hair, stout figure, native of Devon- shire ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, white moleskin trousers, and black billy hat. And JAMES BROWN, alias BRENNING or BRENNAN, or PINCHER, brother of above- named, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved, brown hair, proportionate figure, also a native of Devonshire ; dressed in dark coat and cord trousers. Likely to be found on new railway works. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Bennett, Berks Constabulary, Newbury, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, August 21. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Desciiption of a youth wanted for stealing a Pony ( recovered), at Great Lever on 18th instant:— about 18 years of age, 4 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, stout build and rather large head, walks lame, one leg being rather shorter than the other, he is also knock- kneed ; dressed in black cloth jacket vest and trousers, and hard billycock hat. Has been employed in a drapers shop in Bolton, but is supposed to have gone to Blackpool or South- port. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- street, August 25. Supposed stolen from a field, at Hednesford, daring the night of 20th instant :— a dark brown half- legged Horse, aged, 16 hands high, seam or scar ou off hip, shaked in fore- legs, in fair condition ; was bought by auction at Wolver- hampton Market on 17th instant. Information to Sergeant George Whalley, Police Office, Hednesford, near Stafford.— Bow- street, August 25. Remanded at the Borough Police Court, Cambridge until the 31st instant, on the charge of having a Horse in his possession supposed to be stolen :—- he gave the name of GEORGE SMITH ( supposed fictitious), states he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 3i inches high without shoes, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, proportionate bnil i, oval face, small brown moles on left eyelid, scar on right side of upper lip near nose, several moles on neck, burn scar on chest, small wart on left cheek, wart right side of nose, small moles on left arm, right little finger crooked, scar on left shin, dark moustache, and side whiskers ; dressed in grey tweed jacket, much worn, blue tweed vest with velvet collar, cordutoy trousers, cotton neckerchief, old lace boots, soft chummy hat, all very dirty and much worn ; states he has no home, but it is believed he comes from near Peterborough, and has been convicted of horse- stealing. It is a dark bay mare, black legs, white star on forehead, about 15 hands 1 inch high, and about 8 years old, looks like a hunter, in good working con- dition. Information to W. G. Found at Weybridge, on 1st or 2nd instant:— a dark brown Gelding, 5 or 6 years old, 15} bands high, Btaron fore- head, scar on off hip, and no shoes on. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertaey.— Bon- street, August 23. Stolen from a field at Alum Rock, near Birmingham, between 9 p. m., 16th, and 9 a. m., 17th instant:— a black cob Horse, about 14 hands high, aged, white hind feet, small white star on forehead, and baug tail. £ 10 reward will be paid by Caroline Cattel, the owner, to any person giving such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, aud recovery of the horse. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Constabulary Station, Aston, near Bir- mingham.— Bow- street, August 21. Stolen from a field atBurford nearTenbury, on the night of 8th instant :— a dark grey nag Mare, 3 years old, nearly I4i hands high, has a white streak ou face, one white hind foot, a wart near naval, most probably now removed, and parting of the mane on near side. £ 5 reward will be given by Mr. H. M. Sidney, Inland Revenue Offi: e, Tenbury, to anyone giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the mare and the apprehension and co ivictiori of the thief or thieves. Stolen from a field at Cumberwood, Tirley, during the night of loth instant: — a light brown, half bred Marc, 8 years old, 15 hands high, cut tail, hind feet white, off- bock swollen; supposed to be in foal aud in good condition. Supposed by a young man, about 78 years of age, 5 ft. 2 ins. high, thin build, dark hair, pale complexion, probably blight dark moustache ; dressed in a brown suit of clothes, and brown bowler hat; has the appearance of a jockey or stable boy. £ 5 reward will be paid on conviction of the thief and recovery of the mare. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded early on the morning of 19th instant, from Forth, Cardiganshire, charged on warrant with larceny : — WILLIAM EVANS, late platelayer on the Cambrian Rail- way, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and whiskers ( the latter long aid bushy), bjid on top of head, native of Caersws, Montgomeryshire, and well known to most of the Cambrian Railway officials. Informa- tion to P. C. James, Police Station, Borth, or to Deputy Chief Constable J. Lloyd, Constabulary Office, Aberystwith.— Bow- street, August 25. Description of ROBERT GOSLINS, alias ROBERT GRIFFITH AUSTINS, wanted at Birmingham, charged on warrant with embezzlement: — 34 years of age, about 7i ins. high, fresh complexion, fair hair, heavy fair moustache only, well built, square shoulders, looks addicted to drink, smart appearance and good address, carpenter, but has recently been a commercial traveller in the timber trade. Native of Stour- bridge, well known at Dudley and Bridgenorth, will probably apply for ft situation as foreman carpenter or traveller in the timber trade. Information to J. Farndale, Esq., Chief Con- stable, Birmingham.— Bow- street, Auqust 25. Wanted on warrant, charged with stealing 8 dozen of Pigeons ( recover ed) from Burnham Manor, on 4th instant:— III CHARD REED, labourer, about 35 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, ginger hair, no whiskers, but tuft of ginger hair on chin, rolling gait when walking. Also TH08. WILKINSON, labourer, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers or mous- tache, stiff build. These men are notorious poachers, and may be found at some low lodging- house or brothel. Information to Inspector Ward, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street August 25. Stolen from a dwelling- house rt Reddish, between 8 a. m. and 10.30 a. m. 22nd instant:— an old fashioned silver Lever Watch, plain cases, gold hands, makers name and number not known, had attached a plated Guard with a Locket attached, one of the glasses inside the locket has been lost, supposed -- tolen by a man who resides at Rose Bank, Ramsbottom. He is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, large nose, and is tongue- tied ; dressed in a suit of dark mixture cloth, black billycock hat and black tie. He has worked at a bleachworka as a labourer at Ramsbottom, where he is well known. Informa- tion to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow ftreet, August 25. Description of WILLIAM ARTHUR ANDREWS, charged uuder a warrant with stealing Boots ( reeoverei), on Llth instant:— he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, dark complexion, thin features, medium size, dark moustache, and very slight imperial; dressed in old brown suit of clothes. He left Dorchester on Uth instant, after two months training at the depot barracks to enable him to pass as Dorset militia sergeant. Information to Mr. Coward, Head Constable, Police Station, Dorchester, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., August 25. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Rawtenstall, between 12 noon, 17th, and 2 p m., 19. h instant j— a brown, red, and black striped tweed cloth Coat, man's size, has two pockets outside lap3, ticket ditto, one ditto outside left breast and one inside right breast, also a large ditto inside Mc lap, lined with black lining, pink striped lining in the sleaves, dark bone buttons, and not much worn. Value 12s. Suspicion is attached to a tall man, who was hawking umbrellas iu the neighbourhood. No further description can be given. In- foimation at the County Police Office, Bacup.— Bow- street, August 23. Absconded, charged with larceny in a dwelling house •— Mrs. DAWSON, alias EDITH MAXWELL and EVA BRUCE, a prostitute, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair and eyes ( set rather close, beady), mole on left cheek ; speaks when excited with Irish brogue ; addicted to drink ; dressed in black hat and feather, black silk dress, jet trimmings, light drab ulster coat with cape. Likely to be found at Dublin, where Bhe has resided at various times. Her hnsband is Mr. E. J. G. j DawsonJSoundswood Cong, Co. Mayo, but she has been separated from him for some years. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, 8. W.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen from a drying hedge, at Badw Farm, Llanidloes, during the night of 15th instant:— 2 cotton Shirts, man's size, with blue cross stripes, one with a yellow stripe mixed iu, one with two tuttous in front, the other with three on front; a pair of man's brown woollen Stockings ; a woman's white Apron ; and a common white Tablecloth, about 2 yards long, supposed torn by th « thief, who is supposed to be wear- ing the stolen Shirt and Stockings. He is about 60 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, grey hair and whiskers, fresh face ; dressed in a drab coat, cotton cord trousers ; be usually carries a bundle and a carpet bag with a strap over his shoulder ; is known t, o the Police in North Wales and Shrop- shire. Information to Chief Constable J. Danily, Newtown, or to Sergeant J. Sibbald, Llanidlocp, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen during the night of 21st instant, from the post office, at the new Town Hall, Hove :— i Registered Letters, two of which contained Coin, and the other a lady's long gold Chain, snake pattern, and a lady's gold Ring, set with diamonds and turquoise. Informal ion to Chief Supt. Breach Town Hall, Hove.— Bow- street, August 23. Amended information respecting MARY SOPHIA PRICE, advertised in the Police Gazette of lGrh instant: A warrant has been issued for her arrest, charged with 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. August 18 stealing at Cimlerford, East Dean, on 11th instant, £ 14 in Gold, a silver lever Watch, a cloth Jacket, pair lady's Boots ( buttoned), a Shawl, and a dress Skirt. She lias been traced to Paddington. Information to Mr. Supt. McRae, Coleford, or Sergeant Hawkins, Cinderford, Gloucestershire.— Bow- st., Aug. 23. Charged with stealing Wearing Apparel at Wall, on 1.5th instant:— CATHEKINE MURPHY, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, medium build, and hac several cuts on her face, some of lonj? standing and some recent; dressed in dark skirt, black jacket, white apron, straw bonnet, and old lace- up boots much worn. Property stolen :— a black Dress, trimmed with black and white plaid, a loop at back, with name 4 Scott, Nottingham,' in gilt letters ; a print Dress, with black stripes, black braid round the bottom ; a blue print check Dress, with tlounce; four white holland Aprons; two pairs of cotton Stockings, oie white, the other red a blue check cotton Suirt, a white Table Cloth, and two Handkerchiefs. The above were stolen from the tent of Samson Holland. She is well known at Walsall and Birmingham. Information to Sergeant Pearson, Whittington Police Station, near Lichfield, who holds a warrant I for her arrest.— Bow- street, Avgn. it 23. Absconded, from Stafford on 11th instant, charged on warrant with stealing a Watch ( recovered):— THOMAS SUDDABY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, large long features, dark brown hair, no whiskers, light scanty moustache, droops his head when walking, very long legs, in- kneed ; dressed in dark clothes and black felt hat, rivetter, and can work a large sewing machine. Information to Deputy Chief Constable O. iwell, The Green, or to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bcw- street, Angus'. 23. Absconded from Llanfyllin, on 16' h instant, charged with stealing a Sovereign :— THOMAS COLLEY, a native of Ellesmere, Salop, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair, and stout build ; dressed in dark jacket and trouters, old boots, and dark felt hat; speaks like a female ; had also in his possession when he left two dark Waistcoats ( one brown mixture, stoleu). Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welshpool, or to P. C N. Edwards, Police Station, Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 21. Wauted at Brynmaur, Breconshire, charged with stealing on 9th instant, a silver Geneva Watch, with thick flat glass/' white dial, number not known, and a long German silver chain attached ;— RICHARD SAUNDERS, of Blaiu » , Monmouthshire, stoker or hauler, about 24 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight figure, fresh complexion, light brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache ; dressed in an old serge jacket, black cloth vest without buttons, mole- akin trousers, blue cap, elastic side boots ; lost right arm below the elbow. He has been convicted for stealing brass from Ebbw Vale, and for stealing a coat from Cymmer, near Pontypridd, in June last. Information to Mr. Supt. Joseph Cricbherwell, or to P. S. 7 Thomas Williams, Brymmaur, Bre- conshire.— Bow- itreet, August 21. Absconded from Aldershot, 19th January last, charged with embezz iog £ 14 14i, belonging; to the Aiderthot Branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows :— JAMES FAR- ROWS TAYLOR, late Secretary, 43 years of age, about 6 feet 5 or 6 inches, fair complexion, light brown hair and moustache, no ] j.; ard or whiskers when he left, rather thin features, slight build, walks badly, and turns his feet out- wards ; a musician, and has been trumpet- mojor in the army. £ b reward will be paid by the trustees of the above society to any person "( not having actually assisted in Taylor's con- cealment) giving such information as will lead to the appre- hension of the aiccitsed. Stolen on 15th instant, from Sherington, Bucks, a £ 10 Note, since changed. By a man, named EDWARD WIL- LIAMS, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, turning grey, clean shaved, bald in front of forehead, and ruddy complexion ; dressed in new d. uk cut- away jacket, and dark trousers, spring- tide boots, red belt with brass clasp on waist ; was traced to Bedford, at which place he bought the coat aud trousers, taking hia old coat * nd trousers with him, and which place he left on 16th instant, and asked the way to Leicester, stating he knew seme hunting- stables there, and most likely he will try to get work at Borne such place ; he corresponds with a female servant residing at 1?, Koyal Crescent, Bath. Information to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnell, Buekn, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bcrw- strect, August 21. Stolen from a jeweller's shop at Ware at 1215 p. m. on 18th instant:— 2 gold Geneva Watches, 1st,' crystal glass, metal dome, chased all over, 18 carat case. No. 179245 on back, makers name ' Grossman, Ely Place, London ;' second, metal dome, 14 carat, No. 1520, supposed by a man 18 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair; dressed in light trousers aud dark coat, had two rings Ou his lingers. Information to Mr. Supt. Hyde Clarke, Herts Con- stabulary, Ware.— Bow- street, August 21. Charged upon a warrant with larceny, at Parton, near Whitehaven,, also charged with stealing a gentleman's gold finger Ring, set with an oval- shaped bloodstone, and £ 4 10s. in Gold, from a dwelling- house at Whitehaven, on 12th inat. : ROBERT BROMLEY, alias WILLIAM KARGRAVES 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, pale complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, dark whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; by trade a hotel porter ; dre- sed in a dark g » - ey tweed suit, low- crowned soft felt hat. IIe is an expert hotel thief, and has been several times convicted. Information to Mr. Supt. Bird, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the (!> unty Chief Constable's Offi- e, Oarlisle.— B< w- street, August i, 1. Stolen from the ship ' Deveron,' at Grays Wharf, between 1 and 6 a. m. on 18th instant:— four pilot cloth Jackets, nearly new ; two pilot cloth Waistcoats ; one yellow oil skin Jacket; two Crimean Shirts ; two grey under- flannel Shirts, one pair of Wellington Boots, foreigu make. By a sailor who belonged to the ship, an Iristiman, aud belongs to Dui girnon, about 35 years of age, about 6 feet high, red hair, whiskers and moustache, very muscular, and looks weatherbcaten. Information to Inspector Allen, Grays, Essex.— Bow- street, August 21. Absconded from Worthing, 12th instant, charged with stealing a necr'y new black russell cord Diess and Jacket, the dress plaited, a little puffing, and two flounces round the bottom ; aiid a coourg cape, with two rows of black fringe round the bottom and one on the top. By JAMES SHEP- HERD, of Cosham, Hants, labourer, about 23 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown eyes, light hair cut bbort, no whiskera, medium figure, figure of a woman tattooed ou one arm ai- d star on the other; dressed in a nearly new tweed suit, black hard felt hat, with other clothes in a bag; he is a deserter from the navy ; and ANNE J ANE SCUTH, of Lancing, Sussex, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, medium figure, and sore hand ; dressed in reddish or violet dress with flounces, black hat with two small black feathers in front, aud lace- up plain fronted boots. They are both convicted thieves, and will most likely be found employed harvesting together. Information to Mr. Supt. Silvester, Police Station, Worthing, who holds the warrant for their apprehension.— Bo'P- street, August 21. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Further information respecting THOMAS EVANS, advertised in Police Gazette of 31st ultimo, is still at large, name supposed fictitious ; he is well known in North Wales by the names of JACK RHYS or JOHN JONES LLAN- GOLLEN, he lisps a little, and talks good Welsh and Eng- lish.
