Charged with causing the death of Robert Goldsbrongh, on 22nd instant:— CHARLES RILEY, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate build, full round face, very fresh complexion, light auburn hair, gingrr moustache, no whiskers ; supposed to be an Irishman, but has lived in different parts of Scotland, a stonemason, but of late worked aa a labourer iu the ironworks ; dressed in a light brown mixture tweed cloth slack- back jacket, dark vest, ' lark cord trousers, soft black felt Yankee hat, red muffler or neckerchief, elastic- side boots, aud old dirty union shirt. Rhodes,' Kendal,' with steel Chain attached, curb pattern. Supposed by threo men of the following description, who tiavelted iu the same train : 1st, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 0 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, moleskin trousers, and cap. 2ud, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light browa hair, light moustache, no whiskers; dressed iu dark coat, moleskin trousers, and dark cap with peak. 3rd, frsm 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a light grey tweed suit. These men left Tebay by a goods at 10' 40 p m., on 25th ultimo, for Darlington; two of them had tickets from Ulverston or Barrow to Darlington, the other had a ticket for Stockton. Stolen from the person at Gorton, about 4.15 p. m. 24th instant:— a Half- Sovereign, a Shilling Piece, s, Sixpence, and Fivepence in Copner. By a woman about 40 years of age, tall and slender, long features, large nose ; dressed in a black dress, black bonnet, and light plaid shawl; she can be identified. Stolen by means of burglary, at the Red Lion Inn, Ridgmount, on 24th instant :—£ 50 in Gold. Supposed by a man 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, cut shorl, little dark whiskers aid beard, about a fortnight's growth, which he may have shaved off; dressed in very dark grey suit, black necktie, and hard round felt hat; carries liis head a little forward when walking ; speaks with an Irish accent, and stated that he had been iu'tl'e 106ih Regiment; he Ind in his possession a pair of Iiiuia- i ubber • shoes. Has a bro- ther in . the tea trade at Cannon- street, Manchester. Known at Preston. Was last seen in Manchester on 29th ultimo. Stolen at the Salt Works, Betchton, Cheshire, between 9 and 10 p. m. on 25th instantan old double cased verge Watch, German silver bow, large finger broken, No. not known, maker's name Jervis; had attached a common steel Albert Chain, three Keys — one Key ' Thos. Allcock, Sand-, bach, watchmaker and jeweller,' on. Supposed by a man_ middle aged, tall, dark complexion, slender build, dark mous tache; dressed in a dark cloth cap, laps at sides and ties at the top, old dark clothes ; had the appearance of a tramp. Absconded from Liverpool on 7th instant, charged by warrant with stealing a Wringing Machine, in company of William Watson ( now in custody) :— SAMUEL BUSH, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers ( now said to be cut short) and moustache, bald at the top of the head, fresh eomplexion, grey eyes, well built; generally dressed in shabby dark frock coat, vest, and trousers, and tall silk hat; he is an incorrigible long firm swindler; and JOHN WILLIAMS, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, smart appearance, light brown hair, fair and florid complexion, light thick- set mous- tache cut short, and small side whiskers recently shaved off; dressed respectably in a suit of light tweed or blue serge, and black billycock hat; has recently been engaged as canvasser for sewing and wringing machines. The Boots stolen from the Tramp Ward in Market Drayton, Salop, between 9 p. m. 16th and 8 a. m. 17th inst., and advertised in the Police Gazette on 2lst instant, have been recovered, and a tramp apprehended and remanded until 29th instant, upon the charge of stealing the same. He gave the name of HENRY OLIVER, 31 years of age, 5 ft. 4J inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, dark brown whiskers and moustache, cut rather short, and proportionate build ; states that he is a tin- plate worker and a native of Reading in Berkshire ; dressed in long light brown overcoat, daik cloth trousers, light brown cloth vest, striped woollen shirt, blue striped neckerchief, and cloth cap with square top and peak; he states that he has been travelliEg the country for several years.
