O. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should b ® appre- hended, and tho Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, ef the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail betters addressed to the Editor must be ( prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, aud of Absentees and Deserters from the Hilitia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded, charged with causing the death of a woman : — j, man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, and prominent nose ; dress, light grey jacket and trousers, dirty black hard felt hat. Information to the Directer of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Bow- sireet, July 28. Charged with causing the death of Robert Goldsbrough, en 22nd instant:— CHARLES RILEY, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate build, full round face, very fresh complexion, light auburn hair, ginger moustache, no whiskers; supposed to be an Irishman, but has lived in different parts of Scotland, a stonemason, but of late worked as a labourer in the ironworks ; dressed in a light brown mixture tweed cloth slack- baok jacket, dark vest, dark cord trousers, soft black felt Yankee hat, red muffler or neckerchief, elastic- side boots, and old dirty union shirt. Stated that he had tramped from Glasgow about three months ago; he frequents lodging- houses and stonemasons' club- houses. Information to Mr. E. J. Saggerson, Chief Constable, Police Office, Middlesbrough,—' lev- street, July 20. FORGERY. Dessription of JOHN STEVENTON, wanted for forg- ing a Cheque at Market Drayton, Salop, on 8th instant, for £ 20, taken from Cheque Book No. A. 38480, purported to have been drawn out and made payable by Josiah Franklin to Henry Jenkins, upon the National Provincial Bank of England at Wem. This is tho same man as advertised in Police Gazette on 15th Augist, 1881, for forgery. He is 32 years of age, 5 feet C inches high, stout build, full round face, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, dark whiskers and moustache, cut rather short, thick lips, and prominent mouth, native of Sandford, Salop, and a coachman and clerk ; • dressed in black and brown mixed sack cloth coat, trousers and vest of the same material, and low black felt hat, square top. The cheque was given in payment for the following articles of clothing, which were all new, and which he may offer for sale or pledge, or may be wearing :— a brown mingled Suit; a black diagonal sack Coat; a do. Vest, single- breasted; a pair of brown elastic Braces, wash leather, lined ends ; a brown flexable hat, low crown, laced inside with white silk, gilt label, marked ' Zephyr'; 6 improved Due Collars; 6 stand- up Collars, round corners ; a navy blue heart- shaped Tie, white spots ; a light do Tie ; a reversable Tie, marked m/ t'_; 2 wool Shirts, marked ' r/ t'; 2 Turkey twill Hand- kerchiefs, not hemmed; 2 odd cotton do.; 5 white do., soiled ; 3 pairs of brown coloured Socks ; a pair of hair lined do., light coloured, bteventon married a woman Darned Caroline Watkin or Watkins, whose father resides at Sweeney, near Oiwestry, Salop. Information to Mr. Supt. Howdls of Whitchurch, or Sergt, J, Merricks, of Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehensfon.— Bow- tt., July 24. Charged on warrant with having forged an order of Isaac Newton Edwards for £ 3, which be got cashed at 117, Chancery Lane, London :- THOMAS HENRY HARRIS. 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark whiskers round chin, cut short and turning grey, round features, speaks Bhort and quick ; dressed ia dark clothes and black billy hat; supposed to be employed in a lawyer's office in London. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Police Office, St. Alban's.— Bow- street, July 19. Wanted on warrant for forging a Cheque on tie Sheffield Union Banking Company for £ 175 18s. 9d. :— WALTER LEE, an accountant's clerk, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, clean shaved, slender build ; dressed in a black ribbed frock coat, black cloth trousers aud hard felt hat. He absconded on 14th instant, and may attempt to leave the country. Information to Mr. J. Jacks an, Chief Constable, Cantral Police Office, Sheffield.— Bow- street, July 19. JOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the racecourse on 21st iost :— a silver cryttil bezel Levtr Watjh, gold balance wheel over spring, No. 31414, makers name, ' James Dunwell, Ecclesbill,' had attached a gold albert. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Fearnside, Town Hall, Pontjfraet,— Bow- street, July 26. Stolen from the person about 11 a. m. on 21st instant, on the highway at Ruuham, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk :— 7s. 6d. in Silver. By a man about 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or ( i inches high, sandy hair, cut short, no whiskers, ruddy complexion, nose flattened at eud, aud a little bent on one side ; dressed in a suit of blue ( supposed serge), white linen collar, cloth cap with peak, patent leather strap across front, with brass button at each end, and old elastic- side boots, left worn down very much at heel, and unsewn at back seam of same boot. Information to Mr. Supt. Basham, Police Station, Acle, Norfolk.— Bow- strset, July 21. y BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of Housebreaking on 23rd instant, at Abbey Cwnibir, Radnorshire :— 4 pairs of lace- up Boots, men's size, in good condition, one pair has toe- caps, and the worst pair roughly repaired above both heels. Supposed by two tramps, one 30 or 40 yeara of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high; dressed in daik cloth monkey jacket, moleskin trousei' 3, black cloth cap ( without a peak); the other 30 or 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high ; dressed in grey cloth jacket, much worn, grey soft bat. Information to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, Radnorshire.— Bow- sireet, July 26. Stolen from Lawford Place, on 20th iDstant, by means of burglary .— two grey or drab cloth Overcoats, drab silk lining, side pockets with flaps, left outside and right inside breast pockets, and light cloth buttons, one of the coats nearly new, the other very much worn, had brown velvet collar, and the name J. H. Dobree Esq, inside near collar. Information to Inspsctor W. Simmonds, Essex Constabulary, Manningtree.— Bow- street, July 26. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Newmarket, between 15th aud 22nd instant .-— about £ 8 in Gold and Silver ; 2 silver Bioocbes, one mussel shape; a gold Scarf Pip, shield pattern ; a gold Scarf Ring ( ludian), with carved beads inlaid ; a silver Cream Jug; a silver- gilt keyless hunting Watch, plain cases, out of repair ; a silver Pencil Case, ana silver mounted wood Pipe, Information to Supt. Long, Police Station, Newmarket.— Bow- stnet, July 24. Absconded, charged with burglary at Bwnet:— a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, small dark moustache, large scar across nose ( caused by a fall). A member of the Northampton Militia. Likely to be found or heard of at race meetings. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W— Metro- politan Foliae, July 24. Stolen, by means of burglary, on 18th instant:— a gen- tleman's blue silk Handkerchief, with white spots, has a dark blue border with smaller white spots in, and has the letters ' A. H. C.' worked with white silk in one corner; a pair of lady's black Stockings, has a piece of white tape iuside near top, with the letters ' J. E. C.' thereon in red; and a small tin Box and two 41.- Pieces. The thief or thieves left behind them a pair of old white cotton socks; and a white glass cloth with red squares, such as are used in public house bars. Also stolen, by means of burglary, about 2 a. m on 17th instant:— a Half- sovereigu, a Half- crown, a Florin, and a Sixpence. By a man, who lodged in the house one sight, and stated he was a painter, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light'complexion, light brown hair and mous- tache, pepper and salt tweed clothes, lace- up boots, golden brown billycock hat; had an umbrella and a pair of leggings, which he left behind hire. Information to Stockport Borough Police.— Bow- st., July 21. Stolen by means of burglary on 16th instant, from Bryn- tangor Farm, Bryneglwys :— a pair of strong rivited half Boots, eyelets at lace- holes, nailed, all round the soles, and iu shape of a diamond in centre of the soles, heels fairly worn, and the upper of the right boot unstitched on the outer side, supposed size 8 or 3; and a pair of home- made water- tight Boots, supposed size 6, nearly new, heels nailed wish square tacks, soles nailed with mixed nails, some small and some big ; also a coarse Comb, round at one end and smaller teeth at the other end, some of the teeth broken at coarse end. Two tramps suspected : they were seen iu the neighbourhood late on the night of 15th instant— 1st, about 38 years of age, 5 ft. 8 ins, high, sandy whiskers ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, mole- skin trousers aud cloth cap, and of rough appearance ; 2fcd was about 30 years of age, short stature, light moustache ; dressed in an old pilot cloth monkey jacket, moleskin trou- sers, and cap with peak ; both were carrying heavy sticks. Information to Sergeant, Edward Jones, Police Statioa, Llangollon, North Wales.— Bow- st., July 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 19th instant, between 1 and 6 30 p. m. :— a round black Jacket, pocket on each hip without flaps, alpaca lining ; a black cioth Vest, split under one aim; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, fall fronts, two pockets and watch ditto; a blue stripod Shirt, four tiu buttons ( two on the front and two on collar); a small red pocket Handkerchief, and a red and white Wrapper. Supposed by a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout; dressed in dark clothes, aud dark cap with knob oil top. luformatiou to Mr. Supt. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded, charged with embezzlement : — JOHN SUMPIER PRIEST, late of No. 242, St. Paul's- road, Canonbury, a clerk, 27 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved ou chin ; dressed ill grey tweed suit, smart appearauce. War- rant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Inves- tigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.- - Bow- street, July 28. Stolen at the Salt Works, Betchton, Cheshire, between 9 aud 10 p. m. on 2oth instant:— an old double cased verge Watch, German silver bow, large finger broken, No. not known, maker's name Jervis; bad attached a common steel Albert Chain, three Keys- one Key ' Thos. Alloock, Sand- bach, watchmaker and jeweller,' on. Supposed by a raw, middle aged, tall, dark complexiou, slender build, dark mous- tache ; dressed in a daik cloth cap, laps at sides and ties at the top, old dark clothes ; had the appearance of a tramp. Information to Mr. Supt. Hindley, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Sow- rcreet, July 28. Absconded from Liverpool on Till instant, charged by warrant with stealing a Wringing Machine, iu company of William Watson ( uow iu custody):— SAMUEL BUSH, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, sandy whiskers ( now said to be cut shoit) aud moustache, bald at the top of the head, fresh eomplexion, grey eyes, well built; generally d ressed in shabby dark frock coat, vest, and trousers, and tall siik hat; he is au incorrigible long firm swindler; and JOHN WILLIAMS, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or !) inches high, slender build, smart appearauce, light brown hair, fair aud florid complexion, light thick- set mous- tache cut short, and small side whiskers recently shaved off ; dressed r.- spectably in a suit of light tweed or blue serge, and black billycock hat; has recently been engaged as canvasser for sewing aud wriuafajg machines. The Boots stolen from the Tramp Ward io Market Drayton, Salop, between 9 p. m. 16th and 8 a. m. 17th inst., and advertised in the Police Gazette on 21st instant, have been recovered, and a tramp appreheuded and remanded until 29th instant, upon the charge of stealing the same. H « gave the name of HENRY OLIVES, 31 years of age, 5 ft. inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, grev eyes, dark brown whiskers aud moustache, cut rather short, and proportionate build ; states that he is a tin- plate worker and a native of Reading in Berkshire ; dressed in long light brown overcoat, dark cloth trousers, light brown" cloth 8 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Duttor, Head Constable, Newcas- tle- under- Lyme, win holds a wariant for his apprehension. — Bow- St., July 28. Wanted on warrant, charged with embfzz'ement, at Tunstall, on 17th instant :- MOSE3 AARONSON, of 61, llop^- street, Hanley, traveller in jewellery, 18 yearn of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark sandy hair, no whiskers or moustache, slender build ; dressed in black soft bat, black overcoat, dark tweed jicket aud vest, light tweed trousers', and lace- up boots. Had in his possession Watches : — four silver levers, Noa. 2628, CC56, 6650, and 2088 ; two silver levers, double cased, Nos. 9322 and 62930 ; two silver levers, flit glasses, Nos. 19531 and 0533 ; two silver levers, stop, Nos. 57103 and 33895 ; two silver levers, silver dials, and flat glasses, Nos. 5676 and 0572 ; three lady's silver levers, Nos. f> 7646, 39370, and 40720; two lady's gold Genevas, Nos. 43902 aud 30358 ; one gold Geneva, flat glas?, No. 40603; one gold Geneva lever, No. 26074 ; one silver Geneva, flit glass, No. 46894; one Bilver Geneva, No. 8110; one silver lever hunter, No. 52139 ; and a number of gold Alberts and Guards. Stolen from a public house at Westhoughton, between 1015 p. m. 18th aud 10 a. m. 19th inst. :— two ivory bagatelle lulls. Supposed by a tram,-;, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build and full face ; wore the dress of a navvy. Information to Mr. Supt Holland, County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow street, July 25. Stolen on 24th instant, at Liusladp, Bucks :— A £ 50 Bank of England note. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, has thin sharp features, small moustache; carries head forward iu stooping position ; dressed in black diagonal coat and vest, grey trouserp, side- spring boots, small black hard felt hat. Accompanied by a man, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, small dark whiskers and moustache, pale complexion; dressed in faw i- colaured coat and hard felt hat. Are making their way to a seaport town to emigrate. Information to Inspector Sutton, Police Station, Linslade, Bucks.— How- street, July 26. Stolen from the Victoria Inn. Oxford, on 17th inetaut: a silver Geneva Watch, maker' Wangler,' No. 16464, and a gold Albert Chaiu ; also a Registered Letter addressed Mr, Wm. B- jssorn, Medley, Oxford, containing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and Postal 0: ders for £ 1 and 10s. By GEORGE HARDING, who lodged there on the two previous nights, 20 years of agi:, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, very much sunburnt, especially the liauds, dark hair, inclined to cur', brge chicken pox mark outside each eye, bottom lip split in centre, ha? rather a husky voice and a habit of tapping his chest when speaking; dressed in black diagonal cloth morning coat and vest, black and grey mixture tweed trousers, hard black felt hat, lace- up boots with red lefther binding inside, stamped ' Jern. yn Street, Piccadilly, W.,' had a pair of unbleachad c ittou socks," marked ' Leqnoi.' Wears a silver Geneva hunting watch, and silver victoria albert chain, ( twisted links about half an inch long), carried a tquare- sbaped black bag or box maiked ' J. L and a brown paper parcel. Is very fond of fishing and driving. Repre- sents that he is on a months holiday, and that his father is a seed biscuit biKer and confectioner in Southgate Road, Uolloway, London. Head, Oxfoid, who holds the war- rant.— Bow- sreet, July 26 Wanted for stealing a Blanket, and a garden Shovel ( recovered) and a pair of gentleman's lace- up boots :— WM. LANGLEY alias BILLY NOTHING, . i jobbing gardener, about 55 years of age 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey, clean bliaved under chin, no moustache, squint with one eye ; dressed in a short cord jacket poekets on hips, brown cloth trousers, hard felt hat; may be found at low lodging houses Information to Superintendent T ivlor, Borough Police, Maidenhead.— Bow- stree', July 26. Description of HENRY PRITCHARD, labourer, late of Bracknell, Berkp, charged on a warrant with stealing a Ojat ( recovered), from Easthampstead, Berks, on 17th inst. : — he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and moustache, stout build ; dressed in a black coat with velvet collar, striped tweed vest, cord trousers, nearly new, white shirt, black necktie, lace- up boots, nearly new, and black felt hat; he is well knowu at Reading, also at Brixton and Bermondsey, where he has relatives residing. Information to Inspector Atkin, Berks Constabulary, Wokingham, - vho holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Stolen, on 18tli instant, from a dwelling- house at Bolton : — Us. in Silver. By a man, about 21 years of age, medium height and build, fresh complexion, light hair, aud very slight moustache ; dressed iu grey c< r 1 trousers and vest, supposed cap, and lace- up boots, has a belt round his waist with large 11ou buckle ; had his coat or jicket over his arm, and carried a ne w meat tin tied up in a hankerchief. Stated he was a shunter on the railway, and came from Gloucestershire. Also, on 19th instaDt: — two Half- crowns'. By a man, ahiiut 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, full features, freeh complexion, supposed slight whiskers and moustache; dressed in daik brown suit ( coat with pockets outside), black billycock hat with flat top, tie and collar, aud strong lace- up boots ; he is supposed to be a singer. Also, ou 20th instant:— two bricklayers' Trowels, nearly new, one is worn hollow on one side of blade. By a man, 35' years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown beard and moustache ; dressed in brown tweed shooting coat and brown billycock hat. Also, on 18th instant :— a nickel Bilver Tankard, with handle, monogram ' 11 G. F.' on front. Information to Mr. John Holgate, C. C., Detective Office, Bjlton.— Bow- s'reet, July 24. Description of WILLIAM WROATH, charged on a warrant with embezzling Monies belonging to his employer : — about 35 3 ears of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, thin features, pale complexion, dark hair, small dark moustache, whiskers on chin, slight build, slightly marked with smallpox, and walks with a quick step ; a waiter ; dressed in a black coat, vest, and trousers, shows a great part of shirt front, and dark round felt hat. Information to Inspector Alexander, Hants Constaba'arv, Bou? nemou'h.— Bov;- i'reet, July 24, Stolen from a dwelling- house at Sandbach, between 5 and 6 am , on 21st instant :— a brown cloth Monkey Jacket, black velvet collar, two pockets outside, and far worn ; and a pocket Handkerchief, light ground, red border, and red spots ( diamond shape). By a man, who lodged in the house a few nights', a forgeman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, no whiskers, and £ dark moustache ; dressed in a grey cloth cap, laps at aides, ties at top, nearly new, black cloth coat and trousers far worn, and old elastic- side boots, heavy nailed.
