Notice.— It is requested that all communication* for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably Koeessary that • n information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence eharged, and an attested copy thereof, tegethor with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and el Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offioe Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will bo paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tiae persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDElt AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 3rd instant, WILLIAM LEDGER, labourer, of Shildon, was murdered on the road between Kimblesworth and Pity Me, his body thrown into a small brook, and his Watch and Guard stolen :— an old silver verge Watch, loose case, has ' William Ledger' engraved on inside of outer case, and also on outside of inner case. The Guard is a long single linked silver one, light made, swivel has been broken and faBtens badly. Three tramps aro suspecttd. 1st, about 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache of about a week or ten days growth, dark com- plexion, round face, stout built, walks erect; dressed in dark jacket and vest, grey cloth trousers, and dark cap with peak. 2nd, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, red face, slight ginger whiskers, bony; dressed in dark coat and ve3t, soft felt hat, moleskin, cord, or fustian trousers, had the appearance of a navvy, wearing a white linen or cotton jacket. 3rd, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches nigh, red face, large nose, clean shaved; dressed in double breasted velvet ooat, half worn, and low crowned hard felt hat, wore clegs, and spoke the Lancashire dialect. An inquest was held upon the body, and the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to the Police Force in the United Kingdom), who shall give suoh information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence at shall lead to a like result. Charged on warrant with having forged an order of Isaac Newton Edwards for £ 3, which be got cashed at 117, Chancery Lace, London:— THOMAS HENBY HARMS. 45 to BOyears of ago, 5 feet 8 inches higb, dark whiskers round chin, cut short and turning grey, round features, speaks short and quick ; dressed in dark clothes and black billy hat; supposed to be employed in a lawyer's office iu London. Wanted on warrant for forging a Cheque on tke Sheffield Union Banking Company for £ 175 18s. 9d.:— WALTER LEE, an accountant's clerk, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, clean shaved, slender build ; dressed in a black ribbed frock coat, b& ok cloth trousers and hard felt hat. He absconded on 14th instant, and may attempt to leave the country. Information to Mr, J, Jacksin, Chief Constable, Central Police Office, Sheffield.— Bw- stmi. Jdy 19, ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Evesham Regatta, on 12th instant:— a gentleman's gold lever Watch, No. 37272, white dial, engine turned, milled edges,' W. C.' engraved on back, By a man about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, J ruddy face, dark frizzy hair, and supposed to be travelling in a van with gipsies. Information to Supt. Stolen from the person, on the highway near Winkleigb, on the 12th instant:— a silver Geneva Watch, | plate, small dent on back of case ; a silver Albert Chain, small round links, and a red seal Key attached; a brown leather Purse containing about £ 1 in Money, and a brown low poll bowler Hat, size 6|. Stolen from the person at Henley Regatta on 8th inst.: — a Bilver English lever Watch, 1 Myers, Railway Time Keeper,' in red letters on the face, and a small dent on back of case. Stolen from the person at Evesham on 12 th instant:— a gentleman's gold consular Lever Watch, white face, engine turned, capped and jewelled, ' W. C.' engraved on beck. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, or to Sergeant Gangertorn, Evesham.— Bow- street, July 17. Remanded till 18th instant, charged with stealing a Watch from the person at the Gt. Western Railway Station, Oxford, on 11th instant: — JAMES ANSON, 4, Edward- street, High- street, Graves- end, tailor, 38 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, dark com- plexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, bald top of head, hazel eyes, cut on left thumb, and sharp features ; dressed in grey dust coat, black diagonal fronk coat and vest, brown aud black narrow striped trousers, hard black felt hat, elastic- side boots with blue cloth tops, black scarf, and turn- down collar. JOHN MORRTS, 18, Cadiz- street, White Horse- lane, Stepney, shoemaker, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, slightly pockmarked, and scars under light elbow ; dressed in snuff- coloured dust coat, blue cloth coat and vest., light grey trousers, low crown bard black felt hat, slender lace boots, light check tie with pink and blue lines, and low stand- up collar. THOMAS WILLIAMS, horse coper, 49 years of sge, 5 feet 4J inches higb, dark complexion, dark brown hail tinged with grey, hazel eyes, burn mark on right arm, man throwing ball over wrist, ring half way round i< nd finger, and ' E. L.' inside left arm; dressed in black diagonal cloth jacket and vest, brown trousers, high crown hard black felt hat, side- spring boots, dark blue scarf with whita spots, tied in sailor's bow. JOSEPH NORRIE, 48, Wynyatt, Goswell- road, Londor, dealer, 25 years of age, 5 feel 5i inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, blue dots on right forearm, and blue marks on left ditto ; dressed in brown c'uestei field over- coat, grey diagonal cloth jacket, vest, and trousers, low crown hard black felt hat, elastic- side boots, light necktie with red spots, aud stand- up collar. ELLEN EDWARDS, machinist, 44, Sandy- lane, Birming- ham, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2i inches higb, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on side of left eye, bald top of head ; dressed in black diagonal cloth dolman, trimmed with broad band of satin and fringe, brown stuff dress flounced, brown silk bonnet, trimmed with brown feathers and imita- tion cherries with faded leaves, and button boots ; stoutiah figure, carried a thick brown woolleu scarf shawl. ELIZA SMITH, ironer, 31 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, very bright hazel eyes, and smallpox marks between the eyes ; dressed in black satin dolman, trimmed with fringe and black beads, black cash- mere dress, trimmed with satin, black chip hat with two black feathers and bugles, and wore bright coloured imitation gold eardrops with star in centre. Information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, July 14. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of burglary, on 18th instaut:— a gen- tleman's blue silk Handkerchief, with white spots, has a dark blue border with smaller white spots in, and has the letters ' A. H. C.' worked with white silk in one corner ; a pair of lady's black Stockings, has a piece of white tape inside near top, with the letters ' J. E. C.' thereon in red; and a small tin Box and two 4d.- Pieces. The thief or thieves left bshind them a pair of old white cotton socks; and a white glass cloth with red squares, such as are used in public house bars. Also stolen, by means of burglary, about 2 a. m on 17th instant:— a Half- sovereign, a Half- crown, a Florin, and a Sixpence. By a man, who lodged in the house one night, and stated he was a painter, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light ' complexion, light brown hair and mous- tache, pepper and salt tweed clothes, lace- up boots, golden brown billycock hat; bad an umbrella and a pair of leggings, which he left behind him. loforimtron to Stockport Borough Police,— 3ov s!,, Jvli 21. Stolen by means of burglary on 16th instant, from Bryn- tangor Farm, Bryneglwys :— a pair of strong rivited half Boots, eyelets at lace- holes, nailed all round the soles, and in shape of a diamond in centre of the soles, heels fairly worn, and the upper of the right boot unstitched on the outer side, supposed size 8 or 9 ; and a pair of home- made water- tight Boots, supposed size C, nearly new, heels nailed wiih square tacks, soles nailed with mixed nails, some small and some big ; also a coarse Comb, round at one end and smaller teeth at the other end, some of the teeth broken at coarse end. Two tramps suspected : they were seen in the neighbourhood late on the night of 15th instant— 1st, about 38 years of age, 5 ft. 8 ins, high, sandy whiskers ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, mole- skin trousers and cloth cap, and of rough appearance ; 2nd was about 30 years of age, short stature, light moustache; dressed in an old pilot cloth monkey jacket, moleskin trou- sers, and cap with peak ; both were carrying heavy sticks. Information to Sergeant Edward Jones, Police Station, Llangollon, North Wales.— Beno- st., July 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 19th instant, between 1 and G 30 p. m.:— a round black Jacket, pocket on each hip without flaps, alpaca lining ; a black cloth Vest, split under one aim ; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, fall fronts, two pockets and watch ditto; a blue striped Shirt, four tin buttons ( two on the front aud two on collar); a small red pocket Handkerchief, and a red and white Wrapper. Supposed by a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inched high, stout; dressed in dark clothes, and dark cap with knob on top. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen, by means of burglary, ou 7th instant, in Bolton : — a pair of lady's low down Shoes, black cloth tops, four black buttons at the side, nearly new ; a pair of man's lace- up Boots, brass eyelet- holes, books at top, rijMted soles, iron plates on heels, toe- capped, newly soled and heeled; a man's low do.-, n block billycock Hat, white liu'^ 5, the name of ' Fletcher' inside, and ' H. W. M.' in gold letters; a man's dark green and grey mixture Overcoat, fly front, ODO pocket inside and three outside, in good condition ; a man's brown silk Umbrella, light coloured stick, with a small piece off the handle, in good condition ; a meerschaum Fipe, piain head, amber mouthpiece and two silver ferrules, with Case for ditto ; and a light- coloured indiarubber Tobacco Pouch, with about 3 oz. of mixture Tobacco. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Korotty Green, Penn, between 8 a. m. and G p m. on 13th instant:— an old single barrel Gun, the spring broke, and the key that holds barrel in stock missing ; a plain brass powder Flask, ' J. J. 1862,' scratched on side ; a leather shot Pouch, with steel top ; 2 pair of speckled worsted Stockings; 2 pairs of uubleached Stockings ( men's size); 3 pocket Handkerchiefs, one white, one white with pink border, the other white containing the population of the world in print; 2 small loaves of Bread ; some Butter, Tea, and Sugar. Supposed by tramps. Infor- mation to Inspector Webb, Police Station, Chesham.— Bow- street, July 17. Stolen from a house iu Glebelanda Road, Knuteford, on the morning of 30th ultimo, by means of burglary :— a silver Necklace with small Indian Coins ; a gold Necklace with gold Locket attached, having on one side ' I. M. B.' grouped in blue and white enamel, and the reverse side ii a wreath, ' August 14th, 1869 '; a gold Chain with oblong links and Cross- bar and Charms, consisting of small gold Pencil- ease, and small Venetian Gondola in silver, a Fourpenny Piece, and a gold Watch Key ; and a small silver half- hunticg Watch, No. 3G94. £ 10 reward, or a proportionate part, will be paid by Mr. John Harrison, of Knutsford, for information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to Superintendent Leighton, County Constabulary, Altrincham.— Bow- street, July 17. 8tolen by means of housebreaking during the night of 9th instant:— A large size gilt drawing- room Timepiece, white dial, strikc- s hours and half- hours, No. 35897 on works. 1 oil Painting, about 14 inches by 12 inches, scene— a Haystack with poultry iu foreground— by a French artist. 1 ditto about 16 inches by 12 iuches— Moonlight scene- supposed by Williams, on back is written ' Thus rises the Lunar Majesty of night.' 1 ram's horn snuff Box, jdated mounts, lid been strained. Stolen by means of burglary on 11th instant at Wavendou, Bucks :— 7 old Bilver Teaspoons ; 2 salt and one silver mustard Spoons, all plain; an electro- plated Teapot ; an old black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips and left breast pocket; a mixture tweed Vest ; a pair of lace- up Boots ; a piece of cooked Beef, and a small loaf of Bread. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The two cob Horses advertised on 19th instant, as stolen from the Mid- Cannook Colliery, have been found straying — Bve- stret, jvXy%\. 2 July 21 Stolen during the night of 15th instant, from a field at Golds Green, Hill Top, Westbromwich :— a dark brown male Donkey, castrated, white spot on side, white nose, sores under each fore leg from tight girthing, smooth coat, cut mane, short tail, in good condition, shod all round, marked on fore feet, ' S. P., 82,' on one, ' F. T.' the other, and a mark on one hind foot. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, Wednesbury, or to Sergeant George Given, Hill Top, Westbromwich.— Bow- street, July 19. Absconded from Painscastle, Radnorshire, WILLIAM MORGAN, alias DUMB BILLY, charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) at Clyro, on 29th ultimo : — deaf and dumb, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, Roman nose, blue eyes, left eyelid hangs over; dressed in a light grey cloth jacket, and vest, woollen cord trousers, high bowler hat, and lace- up boots. He had 12 months at Brecon, 3 years ago, for larceny from the person, he is a farm labourer, sleeps at common lodging houses, or in farm buildings. Stolen from a field at the Woodhouse, near Oswestry, Salop, during the night of 7th instant:— a black Cow, South Wales Breed, three years old, short black shiney honiH, which turn up a little, little white on the back of udder, and sup- posed to be in calf. Stolon from a field at Chatham, during the night of 6th instant:— a grey gelding Pony, aged, chipped knees. Information to Mr. Supt. E. Coppinger, Police Court, Chat- ham.— Bow- street, July 17. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen from the tramp ward in Market Drayton, Salop, between 9 p m. 16th and 8 a. m. 17th instant, a pair of men's new watertight Boots, toe- capped, nailed round the outside with square] headed nails set, edgewayp, one row of round headed nails in the inside of the outer row, two rows of round headed nails in centre, forming a cross, aud tips on the heels :— By a tramp who slept at the ward, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, dark whiskers, and slender build ; dressed iu long brown overcoat, black or dark cloth jacket underneath, dark trousers, shooting cap, all much worn, he stated that be came from Nantwicb, Cheshire, on 16th instant, and was going to Newport, Salop, on 17th. that he was a native of Congleton, Cheshire, and a tin plate worked. Information to Mr. Supt. Flowells, Whit- church, or to Sergeant Me ricks, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, July 21. Stolen in Farnworth, between 5 aud 5 30 p. m., 18th inst.: — 2 Florins, 4 Sixpences, and 15d. in Copper. Suspicion is attached to a tramping shoemaker, who had lodged at the house a few days, and absconded on 18th instant, he is sup- posed to come from Bradford, Yorkshire, and is said to be an army reserve man :— 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and moustache ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, white scarf, billycock hat, and elastic- side boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bulton.— Bow- street, July 21. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ i 17s. :— FREDK. HOWARD, alias HOWELL ( supposed proper name JOBN PARRET T), bricklayer, has been" acting as builder's fore- man ; he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey hair, dark moustache and whiskers, grey eyes, with cast in one, little deaf of one ear. Information to James Terry, Chief Constable, Brighton.— Bow- street, July 21. Charged with stealing a silver Watch, on 6th instant, ( recovered):— EDWARD BLACKT1N, alias SONG, of Norwich, a tramping watch aud clock cleaner, about 25 or 26 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, full light grey eyes, which are rather weak, light hair, a white spot of hair in left side cf top of head, smooth face, sallow complexion, walks erect, has served iu militia ; dressed in faded black cloth coat, mixed grey trousers, and hard black round topped hat, militia boot worn at the toes. Information to Inspector Wuite, Walton, S. 0 , Norfolk.— Bow- stree'., July 21. JAME3 FAWCETT, advertised in Police Gazette of 19th ultimo, has been arrested at Newcastle- on- Tyne, and is now awaiting trial.— Bow- street, July 21. Absconded, 16th instant, charged with embezzling a large sum of Money, and stealing Bonds and Securities to the value of £ 1600: — GEORGE WILLIAM BARDRICK, late of No. 13, Gloucester- road, Kew, a clerk, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, florid complexion, stout build, dark red hair and moustache ; dressed respectably. Sup- posed accompanied by a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches bgh, stout build, daik brown hair and moustache, no beard or whiskers. Warrant issued for the arrest of Bardrick. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, CHy of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E C.- Bow- street, July 21. Stolen from a bed- room at 14, Oawl- atfeet, Evesham, on 15th inst.:— a silver English lever Watcn, maV. er ' Runal' cn face, slight crack on do., No. 2526 ; a pair of brown cloth Trousers and Vest, nearly new ; and a 6- ohamber Revolver, repeater action. By a man, who was lodging at the house, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, red nose, very light blue eyes, light brown hair, and slight moustache ; by trade a horse- nail maker, stated that he was a native of Wolverhampton, and had worked at Bristol and Banbury. By WILLIAM SPETCH, a uative of Clay Cross, Derbyshire, about 14 years of age, about 4 fe « ' t 6 inches high, sallow compkxion, brown hair and slender figure ; dressed in grey jacket, brown cord trousers, black cloth cap, and stro. g lace- up boots ; carried a bundle, containing a grey suit of clothe*, and had in his pocket a silver Geneva Watch, No. 7000. Applies for work at farm- houses by stating he i* an orphan, stays a day or two and absconds during the night. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, North Riding Constabulary Office, South Stockton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 17. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Odd Rode, about 11 a. m, on 13th instant: - a si! ver verge Watch ( found) pledged. Bj JAMES POTTS COLLIER, 20 years of agr, 5 feet, 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair ; dressed in double- bieasted plaid coat, p'aid trouser.*, hard felt hat, grey woollen shirt, and light button boots ; has friends at Smallthorneand Chell, Staffordshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hindley, County Constabulary, Middlewich, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- st., July 17. Description of EDWARD JAMES SMITH, late booking clerk in the employment of the Great Western Railway at Newport, charged on a warrant with embezzling monies belonging to the Great Western Railway Company :—. about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark brown curly hair, small dark whiskers, small moustache, shaved under chin, brown eyes, stout and full in the face, red mark about size of shilling on left cheek, short neck, and of good appearance ; dressed in black diagonal morning coat and vest, dark trousers, dark round felt hat. Left Newport for Bristol, on 8th instant. Information to Mr. Sinclair, Chief of Police, Newport, Monmouthshiie.— Bow- st., July 17.
