Notice.— It i « requested that all communications for tho purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of tJie person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. •„• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offenoe charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all testers addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ot Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE G AZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) Tho conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be Bigned or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without tiie apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now e titled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, Londoa." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, See., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 18th instant the dead body of a newly born male Child was found floating in the Huddeisfield Corporation Water Works, at Blacknioorfoot, near Huddersfijld. The body was in a nude state, aud very much decomposed, it was wrapped in an old course harden towel or oven cloth, 2 feet by 15 inches, part of an old white cotton pillow slip, and part of a childa pinafore, twill or figured cotton, with a perforated design round the edges, but un worked, the body appeared to have been in the water two or three weeks, but there were no outward marks of violence upon it. An Inquest was held on the 20th instant, when a verdict of Wilful Murder was returned against some person or persons unknown. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Absconded, charged with obtaining £ 33 aud £ i0 re- spective'y, by means of forged cinques, on 27th and 28th of May last :— a man, 58 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, dark and sallow complexion, hair ( grey and grizzley, partially bald), dirk beard ard moustache, slight, grey eyes ( small and bright, deep sei), low receding fore- head, wears glasses to read, and has lost several teeth, which is noticeable when he speaks ; dressed in light suit and soft cloth hat, or dark frock coat and high hat, and generally carries a stick or umbrella. May be found at Newcastle Races. Information to the Director of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Polici, June 19. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at Oxford on 13th instant:— a black leather Purse, containing 5s. 4d. in Silver, and 2 Pawn- tickets. Ako from a lady's pocket, iu Chr! stchurch Meadow, during the Procession of Boats, on 13th instant:— a morocco Purse, brass bound, elastic band, containing two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, No. 26C67 and 26068; two Sovereigns, one Half- Sovereign, and a Return Railwa7 Ticket from Oxford to London ; also a black leather Purse, steel oound, containing about 12s. Silver, a gold Pencil- case, and a Key. Also at the Flower Show in Worcester College Gardens, on same day :— a Purse, containing £ 1 or £ 4 Gold, and a calendar for the year, ' Mr?. Palmer' written inside; and a Purse, containing £\ Gold and some Silver. information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, June 19. In custody, charged with larceny from the person during the races :— HENRY HARRIS ( name supposed fictitious), about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slender baild, pale com- plexion, clean shaved, light eyes, light brown hair ; dressed in black felt, dark green overcoat, and grey tweed suit, says he is a betting- man. GEORGE SIMPSON, 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, shaves chin, brown eyes ; dressed in shabby clothing, states that he is a French polisher, but that he has been going from place to place without regular employment, and has been employed on fishing boats at Grimsby, Scarboro', and other places. Stolen from the person, about 2 p. m. on 12th instant, at Carletou :— a gold lever Watch, white dial, rim cap, open face, suuk seconds, Ratchet cn the name bar, No. 18789, maker's name Joseph Taylor, Pontefract. Stolen between 1C. 30 a m. and 7.30 p. m. on 15th inst., from a house at Ogley Hay ( during the abser ce of the inmates):— a bottle of Port Wine ; a gold Locket, wiih lady's gold Neck Chain attached, the Chain is very fine, and has been repaired at the snap, the Locket opens in the middle and contains hair in each side ; a gold wedding Ring, much worn ; a gold dress Ring, with stone iu the centre; three foreign Coins, of various dates. The ent- auce was effected by skeleton keys. Supposed by three men :— 1st, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes. 2ud, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark moustache, no beard, black round felt hat; dressed in dark clothes. 3rd, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark ' whiskers, and no moustache ; dressed iu dark clothes, was carrying a top coat on his arm, and an umbrella in his hand. Thay have been traced iu the direction of Birmingham. Information to Police Station, Whiltington, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, June 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, during the night of 17th instant, at Stoke- on- Trent:— a lady's gold lever Watch, gold dial, chased back, No, 79939, maker ' Thomas Parry, Stoke- on- Trent, long gold Guard attached, snake pattern, has been repaired in a place or two ; a man's light grey tweed Jacket, pockets in skirts behind, and me in left breast, single breasted ; Vest of same material ; a pair of elastic Braces, striped ; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, size 7, part worn ; a white Shirt, oxford front; a white haid felt hat; aud about £ 1 in Gold, Supposed by a tramp, as an old blue serge jacket, old shirt, old pair of braces, old black hard hat, and a pair of very old elastic eUe boots, were four d near the house. Stolen on IV. h instaut, by means of housebreaking :— I brown waterproof Overcoat, about half worn; 1 pair of strong nailed lacc- up Boots, recently soled and heeled, square heads in heels and round hob? in soles, man's size ; I brown haid telt Hat, ' Hyam' on lining; 1 silver- plated Card Basket, 3 ditto Candlesticks, one square bottom, other two round bottoms; and 1 very small square- frame American Timepiece. Committed for trial at the next East Sussex Quarter Sessions for Horsestealing— THOMAS WEBB, a hawker and low horsedealer, in summer attends fairs, clubs, & c., with cocoanuts and swings, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair ai. d whiskers, shaved on face; generally dressed in billycock hat, cord trousers, drab double- searred coat. Well known in Surrey, Sussex, and Kent, and supposed to have been previously con- victed. Information to Mr. Supt. Berry, East Gricstea'', Sussex.— Brno- street, June 19. Charged with stealing a Horse and Trap, at Blackpool, on 10th instant, ( iccovered) :— a man, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, grey eyes, slight light moustache, cut mark on forehead, round featured, medium build ; dressed in grey mixture cloth suit, black hard billycock hat, and shoes. Information to Mr. Supt. Stafford, Kirkham, Lancashire.— Eow- street, June 16. Found at Bolehall, near Tamworth, on 18tli ultimo ( sup- posed stolen) :— a light bay nag Mare, 3 years old, about 15 hands higb, white star on forehead, small patch of white on near side of nose, and several small white spots on near side of neck, near hind fetlock white, and a few white hairs on the outside of off hind fetlock, tail cut short, and has shoes on fore feet only. Stolen from a field at Solihull Lodge, duriBg the night of 4th instant :— a lemon and white coloured Pony, 3 years old, 11 hands high, and has a long tail. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, June 14. Stolen between 9 30 p. m , 8th, and 5 a. m., 9th, from a stable at Victoria- road, Peckham :— a brown Cart Horse, 16£ hands high, large blood spavin on near hind leg, in low con- dition. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Cow and a Calf, ( recovered):— CHARLES JAMES MORETON, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate built, rather round shouldered, dark whiskers round face and under chin, hollow cheeks, has bad teeth, lost some upper jaw, anel generally 1 as a good deal of slaver about his mouth ; dressed in a new brown felt hat., dark grey jacket or coat, old brown cloth trousers, and old shoes, much worn at the heels, said to be ruptured, and to wear a truss. Wanted for stealing a Horse at Bredgar, Kent, on night of 9th iislant ( sold at Maidstone on 10th instant) ;— a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, thin face, freckled ; dressed in dark cap, dark check coat, reaching below knees, end corded trousers, ragged at bottom. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The man described in Police Gazette of 12th instant, charged with stealing a Pony and Drag, has been apprehended. John Wright, Supt., C. P. O., Burnley— Bow- streei, Junt, 23. Stolen on 20th instant, from a field at Havriing Well Crown, Romford :— a dark chestnut gelding Pony, Russian breed, about 13 hands high, aged, and very fat. Stolen at Eton on 9th instant: — a Horse, Cab, and Harness ( recovered), by CHARLES SMITH, of Beaufort Mews, North End Road, Fulham, 35 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, dark complexion, heavy moustache, whiskers high on the cheek, slightly built; dressed in new light brown over- coat, new dark trousers, and felt hat. Was seen in the neigh- bourhood of Brompton on 17th instant, wearing an old stable suit. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Slougli, or to Inspector Andrews, Eton, Windsor.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen on 8th instant, from No. 12, Blackstock Road, Hollow « y :— a chestnut horse Pony, 12 hands 3 inches higb, white blazs down face ; a set of brass mounted Harness, s quare turrets ; and a light Gig, wicker back, picked out blue. By a man, 17 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, no LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wonted at Willenhall, charged with embezzlement: - THOMAS BUTLER, clothiers assistant, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8^ inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, dark whiskers, aud slight moustache, dark eyes, and slender build, native of Wolverhampton, and single ; dress— blue frock coat, light check trousers aud vest, black billycock hat, of smart appear- ance, and walks very erect. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longden, Bilston, or to Inspector Cook, Willenhall, Stafford- shire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— Bou- street, Jvnc 23. Stolen from a Lodging- house in Northwich, Cheshire, about 7 am. on 19th insUnt:—£ 2 10s. in money. Bv THOMAS SMITH, alias CUSH, 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, stout build, aud is of rather weak intellect, is a labourer, and a native of Lower BcbingtoD, near Birkenhe id, where some of his relatives re- side, also has a brother in Southport. Information to be given to Supt. Hindley, Constabulary Station, Middle wich, or to Inspector Millington, Constabulary Station, Northwicb, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, Julie 23. Charged with stealing a quantity of Lsad, found sold to a broker in Bolton :— a man, 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 J inches high, rather sallow complexion, dark brown hair, giey eyes, burn mark on right cheek and neck, slender build ; dressed in fustian clothing, far worn, black cloth cap and clogs. His father is an ironworker, said to be working in the neighbour- hood of Leeds. Information to County Police Office, Bolton. — Bow- street, June 21. Stolen at Mo? s Side, at 5.45 p. m., 15th instant:— a bricklayer's Trowel, nearly new ; a labourer's Hod, recovered : — By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, stout build, round shoulders, large Roman nose ; dressed in a tweed coat, moleskin vest and trousers, cap and shoes. Charged with stealing two Overcoats at Fallowfield, on 13th instant:— a man, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, thin nose, and brown hair; 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Charged on a warrant with stealing at Leatherhead on 10th instant, a light spring Cart, painted dark blue, panels gold lined, silver mounted, bar on front for holding the reins, red wheels, ' James Taylor, Kingston, Surrey,' on shaft; a lorg red Box, and a brawn canvas French Box, sontaining 2 silk Dresses, and a quantity of under Uelhing ; a pair of silver Bracelets ; a gold Watch ; a silver Locket, with Chain attached ; a small silver Brooch ; a Maltese Cross ; 2 golu Rings ; a pair of Boots ; and a quantity of Glass and China : — THOMA3 HOUGH, 40 years of age, 5 fset 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, medium build, sandy hairand moustache; diessed in a black overcoat, with velvet collar, grey mixture trousers, and black soft hat. May be found attending fair-; and fetes, with steam roundabouts and shooting galleries. Charged on a warrant witji embezzlement at Leatheihead, on 10th ultimo i— WILLI AY. JAMES KEILLAR ELDER, advertised in Police Gazette, 8th Dec., 188.0, ia now in England, passing under various aliases, amongst them ' HOWARD.' He is short of money, and frequents very second- rate hotels. Information to C. C., Ipswich.— Bow- street, June 21, Charged with stealing 2 leather driving Strips ( re- coverhd), at Buglawton, cn 12th instant.: — THOMAS THOMPSON, 62 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark h& ir, turning grey, whiskers on cheeks turning grey ; dressed ia blue pilot coat, cord trousers, and hard felt hat. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Hindley, Middlewicli, or to Serjeant Potts, Anbury, near Congletoa, Cheshire.— Bow- e. reet, June 21. Absconded from " Wakefield, charged on warrant with embezzlement;— JAMES FAWCETT 38 years of age, 5 ft. 61 ins. high, gny eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, light moustache, bracelet tattooed on one wrist, a native of Knaresborough, of Irish parentage, speaks • with a slight North of Ireland accent, has been in the army, and was lately employed as an agent for a Sewing Machine Company ; dressed on 9th instant in a faded black cloth suit, and black billycock hat. Information to Chief Constable Clarkson, Borough Police Office, Wakefield.— Bou- s'. reei, June 19. Stolen on the night of 14th instant, at Qaest Hills, Malveru Link :— a white Blanket with red edges;' a dark Polanaise ; 2 pairs of men's white cotton Stockings ; and a large bunch of Keys. Suspicion is attached to a woman who lodged in the home and left the same night, 4& years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, and dark brown hair ; dressed in a dark dress, light brown ulster, black hat, trimmed witn. crape and black feather. She travels round the country and obtains work as a washerwoman. Information to Supt. Geo. Tur. er, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Charbs Drury, Malvern.— Bow- street, Jwi°. 19. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ 8 in Gold, at Sawtry, Hunts, on 24th ult. :— CHARLOTTE LANE, a widow, 64 years cf age, medium height, sfcoutiah build, fresh complexion, full brown eyes, hair turning grey, at iu walks with her tots turned iu ; dressed in a chip bonnet, trimmed with black s. V. in aud pink flower, shabby brown dress, and a s nail cape edged with black fringe ; appears to know London well; said her husband died at Dover, where they at one timo kept an hotel or i ublic- house ; is a good needlewoman ; she was traced to Holme Station ou the G. N. Railway on 24th utL where the. took a ticket for King's CVosa, and left fey the 12.52 train fur London. Information to Mr. Supt.. Wm. A! l° n, Norman Cross, Peterborough, who holds the warrant for htr arrest.— Bow- straet, Jun", 19. Further information respecting the Watch stolen fr< m Haughtou Lodge, Shifnal, advertised in Police Gazette of 14th instant;— the watch has been recovered, sold iu Wel- lington, Salop. The thief, who is still at large, ia about 18 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, brown face, no whiskers or moustache, and brown Kair ; dressed in blue serge jacket, cap with peak covered with same materia!, blrt* k trousers", with one white thread - down' them about an inch apart, low thin shoes, and ribbed li. rjht socks; had the appear nice of a sailor. HJ.- NE, a compositor, late of 55, Charloi. te- ttreet, Caledonian- road, Islington, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, fair beard and moustache. By a map, a member of the Carnarvonshire Militia, 25 to, 80 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 incliss high, light complexion, light brown hair aud light moustache, no whiskers ; dreeseil ia brown cloth cap, light ragged coat, with patches ou the elbows, light cotton cord trousers, and supposed Militia hootr, with tips at heels and toes: he goes about working with farmers. Description of EDWARD HARRY RAMSEY, book canvasser, charged on warrant with stealing 4 Watches, 3 iJib'efl, a Musical Box, aud a Musical Album, all found 1 pledged; about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, left i hand withered, and has lost several fingers off the same hand ; dressed in light suit., brown felt hat. He is well khown at Guildford arid CamberweH. Information to Mr. Sipfc. like, St. Albans, Herts.— Bow- st- eet, June 16. Stolen since 12th instant, from the. Offers' Quarlera at Winchester Barracks:— 1Two 50- rupee Notes, £ 3 Gold, 7s. Silver ; three Sets of gold Studs, 1st, reddish- brown stone ( encircled by four diamonds, one diamond deficient in one of the stud?-), 2nd, plain backs and engraved fronts, 3rel, small stones'or diamonds in centre; a single Stud, gold back and black front, supposed metal; a gold Signet Ring, stone in centre, engraved with the figure of a man.
