POLICE Notice.— It is requested that all communications ( or the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre bended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably accessary that an information should be made and sworn to beforo a Magistrate, of the Offense charged, and an attested copy thereof, tagether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor • QlUt he prepaid^ otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Deseriptiong of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded ou War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on whioh it is payable. ( S). The person by whom it will be paid. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged oil warrant with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Nicoda Locke, at Mitchell's Wood, near Talk- o'th- hill, on 29th ultimo:— BARTHOLOMEW GORMAN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 cr 8 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, stout build, is an Irishman, of gipsy- like appearance, and a tinker: dressed in brown frock coat, old brown cord trousers and vest, red necktie, old dark brown liard hat, and lace- up boots with tips on heels. Ho is suppossd to be a member of the 3rd Stafford Militia. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hall, Tunstcll, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, or to Sergeant Belfield, Kidsgrove.— Bow- street, June 2. FORGERY. Absconded from Chepstow, about 27th [ ultimo, charged on warrant with obtaining £ 24 12s. upon a forged Cheque : — HENRY VINCENT, about 36 years of age, about 5 ft. 5 inches high, rather slight figure, fair complexion, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, turning grey, chin shaved ; dressed in light grey long overcoat, now black frock coat and vest, light tweed trousers, and elastic side boots, ( has a brown suit with him), respectable appearance and good address, and represented himself to be a stock- broker ; said to be a Baptist, has been holding religious services and preaching in the neighbourhood ; came from Ponteshead or Bristol aboat six months ago, supposed to be accompanied by a companion about 16 years of age, a native of Bristol, light complexion and very light hair ; is likely to be found in respectable pri- vate lodgings. Information to Capt. Willougliby Berthon, D. C. C., or to P. S. Lear?, Chepstow, Monmouth, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded from Norwich, on 31st ultimo, charged on warrant with forgery:— JAMES WILSON, alias J. DAY, alias PLANE, a valet, about 30 years of age, 6 feet or 11 ins. high, slender build, fair complexion, light brown hair, rather long light moustache, no whiskers, and grey eyes ; dressed in a dark blue cloth suit, round hard had, blue cloth- top boots ; wears thick gold or imitation ring, set with one blue and two white stones, and a small silver Geneva - watch, carries a walking stick, and took with him a black cloth suit and pair of elastic- side boote, done up in a rug. Information to Chief Constable Robert Hitchman, Guildhall, Norwich.— Bow- street, June 5. London. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for the recovery of each of the above watches, and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Durham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, June 7. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 5th instant, at the Eton • Regatta :~ a gold hunting Watch, No. 19751, makers name, James McCabe, Royal Exchange, London. Also a gold Watch with white dial, makers name, Dent, Cockspur street, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Wanted for housebreaking on 5th instant, stealing a dark Jacket and Vest, a leather Tobacco Pouch, with clasp, ' Tobacco,' in gilt letters on the side ; a gold- plated Brooch, imitation of a Staffordshire knot and 5s. in Money. A man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh com- plexion, very red face, light brown hair, dark moustache; dressed in light tweed jacket, soft billycock hat. The jacket and vest have been found pledged in Macclesfield on 6th inst. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- st., June 9. Stolen by means of ' mrglary at Swansea, between 11.30 p. m. the 6th, and 6 a. m. 7th instaut : « — a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 12375, has a private mark 573/ 78 scratched on the case ; a lady's fancy gold Albert Chain, 18 carat, with 4 small gold balls and tassel attached ; a lady's 18 carat gold keeper Ring, buckle pattern, very wide, and nearly new ; a silver Indian Medal, with ' John Owen ' engraved around the edge, 2 bars attached with the words'Relief ofLucknow' thereon ; a small gold Fan, ( can be opened and closed as an ordinary fan); a small compass, gold on one side and silver the other, encased with gold, can be made to show the day of the month; several small precious Stones, known as Indian Gold Stones, different shades. Stolen on 5th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a man's dark tweed Jacket, pockets on hips, ticket pocket, one out left breast, a Vest of same material, mJ a luWoou roucn with clasp. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Sow- street, June 7. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Aymestrey, between 5 a. m. and 8 p. m. 30th ultimo :— a pair of cotton cord Trousers, nearly new, flap fronts, lined with calico, white bone buttons, two pockets and a watch pocket, man's size ; a small calico Bag, and 13. in Copper money; a black ribbed cloth Jacket and Vest, jacket has two pockets on hips, and one inside breast pocket, vest, two pockets and watch pocket, with black clolh but tors and dark lining; a pair of brown cloth Trousers, metal buttons, square pattern, with small yellow spots in the cloth, jacket, vest and trousers fit a boy about 15 years old, trousers have calico lining within about 4 inches of bottom of trousers legs ; a black leather Purse contained 1 Florin, 2 Shilling?, and lOd. in Copper. Information to Mr. Supt. Dykes, Leominster, or P. C. Jordan, Shobden, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, June 5. Stolen between 10 p. m. 1st and 6 am. 2nd instant, Oak- dean House, Abby- road, St. Thomas, by means of burglary : — a quantity of Meat; Bread ; Butter ; and ginger Wine, consumed on the premises. Information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, June 5. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Westerham, between 8 and 11 a. m. on 30th ultimo :— a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined with brown calico, fall fronts, nearly new; a dark speckled cloth Coat, pocket on hips ; a Vest of same material; a light grey cloth do. ; a dark soft billycock Hat, bound with black braid ; 3 Neckties— one black, one violet with white satin stripes, the other navy blue with red flowers ; 3 linen Collars, and a pair of man's light lace- un Boots. Supposed by a man who was seen near the house, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, very few if any whiskers, very light moustache, nearly white ; an old coat and a pair of trousers were found near the house. Information to Mr. Supt. O'Kill, Police Station, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- tlreet, June 5. Stolen from Folly Hall, Brierly, by means of burglary during the night of 21st ultimo :— a silver Geneva Watch, ' E. A. W' engraved on case ; a silver Guard, broken iu the middle ai, d tied with cotton thread ; about 6s. in Silver and 4s. in Copper. by ARTHUR CHILDS, alias POAT CHILDS, a poacher, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, nose has leen broken, and inclines a little to one side, sp'ay footed, and has a stooping gait, by trade a collier; dressed in a dirty light grey suit, and black billycock hat. And PHILLIS PARKES, 38 years of age, 4 feet 10i inches high, face very much tanned, two moles on left cheek, brown hair, grey eyes; dressed in a dark brown dress, and black bonnet, she is a native of Worcestershire. Both were seen on 2- 2nd ultimo, going in the direction of Wakefield. Information to the Superintendent, Barusley.— Bow street, June 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed stolen from a field at Stockwell End, Tetten- hall, on 1st instant:— a dark bay Mare 14$ hands, aged, white hind fetlocks, and blistered on off foreleg, and in good condition. Also a black Pony 10 hands, long tail, and blistered forelegs. Information to Inspector Geo. Barrett, Police Office, Tettenhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Jam 9. Stolen from a field in Bromley Lane, Pensnett., between 9 p. m. the 2nd, and 7.30 a. m. the 3rd instant:— a light bay cob Mare, 6 years old, 14J hands high, white star omforehead, small white saddle mark on right side, rather long black mane, short tail, been docked, in good condition, and handsor. e appearance. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Station, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen from the Fleece Inn, Eversham, during the night of 30th ultimo :— a small dappled grey cart Horse, aged, about 15 hands high, with swish tail, white mane, and hairy legs, fore shoes nearly new. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Eversham, Worcester- shire.— Bow street, June 7. Stolen from a meadow at Ashstead, Surrey, about 10 p. m ou 2nd instant: — a bay gelding Ponv, aged 10 years, 12 hands high, small white star on forehead, and a scar under the jaw, in good condition. Supposed by two men of gipsy appeal - ance,— 1st, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, small dark moustache, stout build; dressed ill dark clothes, and hard felt hat. 2ud, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers, red blotchy face ; dressed in a dark coat, dark corduroy trousers, fitting tight to legs, black crowned felt hat. These men are accompanied by two women ; they also have a dark brown pony and a light spring cart, and supposed to frequent Epping Forest in the summer with saddle horses. Information to Mr. Supt. Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded, charged with stealing two Cows and fourteen Pigs, on 3rd ultimo :— JOSEPH BRISTOW, gardener, of Abbot's Langley, Herts, 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light whiskers and moustache; dressed in black cloth suit, hard felt hat, side- spring boots. Information to Inspector Hummer- stone, Police Station, Watford. Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 7. Stolen during the night of 29th ultimo, from Swans- combe, Kent: — a large grey gelding Donkey, about R yeaia era, very little ( if any) mane, tail rubbed very much, black points, and in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, June 5. Stolen on 30th ultimo, from a field at Parchmont- road, Lower Tooting :— a bright bay carriage Horse, 15 hands 2 inches high, 6 years old, white star on forehead, long ears, 2 scars on shoulder, small spent on near foreleg, no hind shoes, slightly blistered both hocks. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metro- politan Police, June 5. Found in possession of THOMAS CLARK :— a dark brown roan Pony, entire, with white star on forehead, about 11 hands high, supposed stolen from some colliery between. Sheffield and Chesterfield :— Clark is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, fresh com- plexion ; dressed in shabby grey mixture coat, light grey vest, brown striped trousers, much worn, old lace- up boots, and hard billy hat; a native of Binklow, Warwickshire. Information to Head Constable Emery, Chesterfield, Derby- shire.— Bow- sireet, June 5. Stolen from a field near Ripon- road, at Kirby Malzeard, between 29th and 31st ultimo :— a bay horse Pony, about 12 hands high, 8 years old, long tail, black legs, very fat and strong hind quarters, hair off about mouth, and sand crack in one fore foot. Information to Mr. Supt. Geo. Carr, Court House, Knaresbrough.— Bow- sir est, June 5. Stolen from a Livery Stable in Colchester, on 2nd instant, by a man, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches higb, fresh complexion, small dark moustache, no whiskers, blue diagonal cloth coat, dark speckled trousers, black hard felt hat:— a bay Pony, 14 hands higb, black on hocks, collar marks on both shoulders; silver mounted Harness ; a three spring Cart, painted dark blue, picked out orange, the splash board on off side has two holes stopped up with wood plugs ; a red Rug, and cocoa Mat, in cart. Information to Mr. G. Mercer, Chief Constable, Colchester..— Bow- street, June 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT! Wanted ou a warrant at Birmingham, charged with stealing gold Rings on 25th January last:— WM. LYSTER, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light sandy hair, sandy moustache and side whiskers, stout build, full round face, full eyes, and fresh complexion ; a gold ring maker. He [ is [ supposed to be working in London since 6th March. Information to Chief Constable Joseph Farndale, Birming- ham.— hv-' treet, June 9. Description of OWEN PARFITT, alias JOHN WHITE, charged with stealing a number of mason's Tcols, from a new building at Claverton, near Bath, between the 27th and 30th ultimo :— about 48 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in old shabby dark clothes, and hard round hat, he is a tramping biicklayer. He has been convicted in the name of ' John White'for similar offences at Weston and Shepton Mallet, and is now under police supervision. The stolen Tools have been found sold at Beckington and Fiome. Information to Mr. Supt. Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bristol Road, Bath, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 9. Charged on warrant with embezzlement at Burton- on- Trent, on 8th April:— LEWIS ROSE, brewers traveller, 39 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, whiskers side of face, grey eyes, stout build, getting bald, round shoulders, supposed^ jiative of 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. June 16 Leeda, married ; dressed in a biaek cloth sack coat, dark grey mixture trousers, round hard black hat, elastic side boots, and usually wears black kid gloves. Information to the Superin- tendent, Eurton- on- Trent.— Bow- strset, June 9. Remanded at Northallerton till 14th instant, charged • with larceny :— JOSEPH WATSON, a labourer, states he is a native of Sheffield but has the Lincolnshire dialect, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, light moustache, and whiskers on sides of face ; dressed in cord vest]) with moleskinjsleeves, cord trousers, patched at knee3, black billycock hat, aud lace- up boots. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, Consta- bulary Office, Northallerton, Yorks.— Bow- street, June 9. Absconded, 19th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— ALFRED LUDYV1G, a Cerman, speaks English imperfectly, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, red hair and side- whiskers turning grev, hook nose, left foot turns in when walking, and has a downcast look when speaking; dressed in blue overcoat, brown suit under, and hard felt hat. Has three wives, one at No. 105, Paul- street, Finsbury, one at Birmingham, and one in Germany. List known address, No. 2, York- street, Dover, where he is likely to be found. Information to the Inspector on duty, Police Station, Bridewell- place, City, London.— Bow- s'. reet, June 9. Wanted on a warrant at Hastings, charged with embez- zlement :— HENRY STANLEY, collector, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, small light whiskers, light brown hair, good looking; dressed in black coat and vest, light trousers, and black hard felt hat. Was formerly employed as a collector by the Refuge Society, and is believed to belong to the neighbourhood of Holborn, London, where his father carries on business as a tailor. Information to Chief Supt. Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded from Wrexham on 4tli instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a Pigeon :— PATRICK BEGAN, 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair and mous- tache ( small), grey eyes, fresh complexion, and sun freckled ; dressed in a dirty light coloured jacket and vest, with blue guernsey underneath, corduroy trousers, soft billycock hat, and heavy lace- up boots. Recently come out of gaol, after- serving 12 months for highway robbery ; he is an Irishman, a native of Wrexham ; seldom works, and he frequents low public- houses and common lodging- houses. Information to Deputy Chief Constable W. Wilde, Wrexham, who holds a warrant for his apj r hension.— Vow- street, June 7. Absconded from Torquay, charged on warrant with em- bezzling £ 38 :— GEORGE HENRY THOMAS, native of Babbacombe, piano tuner and organist, about 27 years of ago, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, medium build, has a little whisker on side of face, no moustache, high cheek bones, and rather thin face ; dressed in a grey suit and hard round hat. He has also obtained by false pretences, a gold Watch, value .£ 11 10s., and a snake diamond Ring value £ 5 5s., and will possibly try to dispose of them. His box was taken to Exeter on 25th May by a young woman. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Barbor, Devon Constabulary, Torquay.— Bow- street, June 7. Stated he belonged to Southampton, and was employed at Railway Works. Ardjver. Left at his lodgings : a silver Thimble, in a small velvet case, and a fitter's Square, * J. V.' stamped on handle, supposed to have been stolen, lnfc r oration to A. Mathews, Head Constable, City Police Station, Canal, Salisbury.— Bow- street, June 7. Wanted on ?. warrant for stealing five Piers ( recovered), on 12th ultimo, at Brampton Abbot's. Ross :— YVM JAME i alias GEO. JAME3 and ' OLD RALPH,' about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, medium build, light brown hair, sandy whiskers turning grey, chin clean shaved, and ruddy or freckled face ; a labourer, and occasionally attends markets and fairs as a drover, and a native of Bromyard ; dressed in an old brown jacket, dark cord trousers, and black soft billycock hat, ail much worn and dirty; carried a walking stick, and a small bundle tied up in a red and white cotton handkerchief. Information to Mr. Supt. G. Smith, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, June 7. A long curb pattern silver watch Guard, was st den between 21st and 26th ultimo, from a bed- room at Col wall, near Malvern, by 2 Frenchmen, who lodged in the cottage two nights :— one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, medium build, dark complexion and hair, slight black whiskers, round black corded coat, dark cloth vest and trousers, bowler hat, elastic- side high h » el boots, a schoolmaster, out of a situation. The other about 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, thin figure, fresh complexion, black hair, smooth face, dark cloth coat, vest and trousers, much worn, The younger one offered the stolen guard in pledge at Worcester, but was refused, he speaks little English. The elder one is known at Colwall, where he assisted some time ago in a school. Information to Mr. Supt. J. Smith, Ledbury, Hereford. — Bow- street, June 7. Absconded on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with larceny, as a servant, of iilO, at Ore, Sussex :— JOHN JOSEPH WILCOX, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, very light sandy hair and moustache, slight ligure, is a grocer's assistant; dressed in a dark tweed suit, brown bowler hat. Supposed native of Shropshire, has lived in London and Wolverhampton Information to Mr. Supt. S. Baldwin, Guestling, near Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, Jnm 5. Stolen at Cbalfout St. Peter's, on 2nd instant :— a man's dark serge Jacket, which was being turned and unfiuished, lined with black alpaca, no collar, button holes cut but not stitched, and sleeves not turned up at wrists. By a man about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slight build, brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache of about a month's growth, and sharp features; dressed iu a short brown slop or jacket, tight moleskin trousers, close fitting dark cap, and light Oxford shoes, which were then too long for him. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector J. Chaplin, Police Station, Beaconsfield, Bucks — Bow- street, June 5. Absconded from Burslem, on 23rd ultimo, charged with embezzlement: — EDWARD JOHN BAKER, solicitors clerk, 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, brown eyes, slender buihl, freckled, long thin fingers, small mouth and eyes, upper front teeth projects, a native of Tunstall; dressed in round low black felt hat, tweed suit, light coloured overcoat; his parents reside at Whitby, Yorkshire. Information to Mr. Chief Siipt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, June 5. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) £ 5 reward is offered by the vicar and churchwardens, for any information leading to the conviction of the offenders who broke into St. Leonard's Church, Hythe, between 8.20 p. m. 4th instant, and 6 am. 5th instant, stole therefrom the Church Restoration Box, and damaged one of the windows. Information to John Aedy, Head Constable, Boro' Police Office, Hythe, Kent.— Bow- street, June 9.
