Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should he made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor mnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clcarly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without ihe apprehension of tbo offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. T.' on left forearm ; dress— blue pilot coat, black bone buttons, grey mixture trousers, cloth cap with peak, red aud^ black scarf, a clerk, native of Taunton. SMITH, generally goes by the name of PETER, about 27 years of age, f> feet 5 inches high, stoutish build, no whiskers, sandy moustache ; dressed in a black dress coat, light cloth trousers and waistcoat, Jblue necktie with white spots, belongs to llackney- road, London. GEORGE SIMPSON, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slim build, slight black moustache, side whiskers, ( which may have been shaved off); dressed in black . frock coat, light cloth waistcoat, dark tweed trousers, black silk necktie, and elastic- eide boots, belongs to Shoreditch. Stolea by means of housebreaking at Llandigai, Bangor, Carnarvonshire, between 6 and 8 p. m. on 14th instant:— two W& tehw— one a silver verge double case hunting Watch, No. MORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed stolen at Wolstauton during the night of 10th instant:— a dark brown Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, long tail, mane hangs over both sides of neck, G white spots on near side of back, and lame on near foreleg. Aud a bay Cob, about 14 bauds high, tail cut short, off hiud foot white, aud lame on off foreleg. Stolen from Redburn, Herts, on 16th instant:— a dark chestnut mare Pony, about 13 hands high, slight chip on both knees, hog main, main cut close where collar tits, a lump on the nea^ side of the nose ; a Bet of brass plated Harness, in good condition, with brass brow piece on bridle ; a Cart, with red lined body, inside dark, and dark painted wheels, the splash tboard is broken on the near side, and spliced with copper wire, each shaft is bound round with a piece of cord close to the body of the cart. Supposed by 3 men;— one about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high; dark eyes, dark hair, dark moustache; wears a frock coat, daik striped trousers, dark vest, hard felt hat, light cloth boots, with pearl buttons ; another 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark, big nose, aud pitted with small pox; dressed iu light jacket, with pockets at side, dark trousers and vest, soft light hat, with a button on top ; the other 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high ; d irk coat, d" ik vest and trousers, dark brown hair, a dark moustache, aud a dark tie, with pin, travels as paper bag seller for Thomas Poulter and Sons, 6, Arthur Street, London, E C. Information to In- spector Hummerstone, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Bow- stree', May 19. Stolen from a field at Harborne, during the night of 11th instant:— a light brown Horse, 5 years old, 14J hands high, wart mark under breast and belly, white spot above fore hoof ( supposed off one.) and in good condition. A reward of 5 Guineas will be paid by the ' Harborne Association for the prosecution of felons,' and a further reward of 5 Guineas by Mr. John Reading, the owner of the horse, for such infor mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse. Whitehurst, P. lice Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or Sergeant Kavanagh, Harborne, near Bir- mingham.— Bow- ttreet, May 15. 88574, maker's name Hayward, Asliford, and the other a silver Watch with silver dial face, maker's name engraved inside ' J. Willman, Bangor.' Information to Inspector Hughes, Bangor, Carnarvonshire.— Bow- street, May 17. Between 8 a. m. aud 7 p. m. on 12th instant, a cottage iu Cumnor, near Oxford, was broken into and the following property stolen :— a black cloth Coat, very good, cloth buttons, pockets on hips, dark grey lining, the front corners of skirts have been recently rounded ; a brown leather Purse, red lining, brass fastening, has a small brass chain attached, con- taining a Sovereign and 10s. in Silver, amongst which nre several Florins. A tramp wa3 seen near the cottage at 9 a. m., he was of middle age, rather tall, black whiskers cut short, nearly covering the face ; dressed in a shabby black snit, hard round hat, and old lace- uD boots, bad at the toes. Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abiugdoin.— Boio- street, May 15. , Stolen by means of housebreaking at Lawn Farm near Uttoxeter, on 10th instant:— a lady's silver Geneva Watch, makers name ' Bell and D iins,' Uttoxeter ; a silver Brooch, pattern round, with ball on swivel in centre ; a gent's gold Ring, blue stone, with red stripes ; a silk watch Guard, with gold Locket and Pencil, attached, four 5s. Pieces, aud one lion Shilling. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, or Sergeant Harding, Cheadle, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., May 15. Stolen at Haslingden on 8th instant ( during the absence of the family) :—£ 9 in Gold, consisting of 6 Sovereigns and 6 Half- Sovereigns, also a silver English lever Watch, No. 5995, silver dial, which is cracked, has a second finger, hail attached a gold albert Guard, small link pattern, with an appendage, a compass on one side and a green store on tire other. Entrance effected by taking out a portion of a window at the back of the house. Information to Mr. Sunt. Henderson, Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow street, May 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Harborne, on 10th instant:—£ 10 in Gold ; £ 1 14s. 8d. in Silver and Copper; a Property Tax Receipt for £ 2 5s. 6d. signed ' Thomas Priest' and an old dirty red Bag, in which they were contained. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitahurst, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or to Sergeant Kavanagh, Harborne, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Tonbridge, on 3rd instant:— a brown Overcoat, with velvet collar ; a black diagonal cloth Jacket, pockets at hips, and one outside left breast; an ivory Pencil- case, inlaid with tortoise; and a very old gold Ring. Also by means of housebreaking at Speldhurst, Kent, on 7th instant :— a £ 10 Ba- k of England Note ; a set of gold Studs and Links ; and an open- face silver lever Watch, No. 2603. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded, on 4th instant,,, from Colton, charged on warrant with s'e rling a man's blue pilot cloth Jacket, part worn, two outside pockets with flaps, and one inside left skirt, blue cloth buttons to match iu front but none behind, having been pulled off; and a pair of man's elastic side Boots, recently soled and heeled: — WM. BENTLEY", a farm labouier, about 26 years of age ( looks much younger), 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, dark eyes, stoutish build, and has a slight impedi- ment in speech, a native of Hanbury 1' atT- r, Need wood Forest, Burton- on- Trent, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket, as he left his old one bchij d Information to Deputv Chief Constable Oswell, The Green, Stafford, or Inspector- Moore, Town'Hall, Rugeley,! Wanted at Loftue, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, from his lodgings at Brottou, on 13th instant:— ROBERT SURTEES, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 1C inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, short moustache, whiskers shaved off, proportionate figure, a native of Sunderland, served his apprenticeship at Potte's Ship- yard as ship carpeatwr, but has since been iu the army ; dressed in grey cloth jacket, black trousers, marked with paint, old elastic- side boots, [ much worn, and worsted cap with peak, and button at the top ; is supposed to have been convicted several times in the county of Durham, for larceny. Information to Mr. Supt. Clarkson, N. R. Constabulary, Gnisborough, or to Inspector Thomas Allen, Police Station, Loftus in Cleveland— Bow- streit, May 19. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ 110 on 11th inst. : — a Russian Pole, 27 years of age ( looks older) 5ftet9 inches high, dark hair and moustache, no whiskers or beard, broad features, stout build, wears eyeglasses or spect; was wearing when he absconded a black cioth suit, light summer overcoat, black hard felt bat, and patent leather boots. Likely to emigrate to Germany. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by his late employer for his apprehension, aud 5 per cent, on all monies recovered. Information to the D; tr . l:. ve Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— / low- street, May 19. The five Pigs stolen from Brampton Abbotts, Ross, on the night of 11th instant ( Police Gazette 15th instant), have been rccovercd at Colwell, near Ledbury ; aud a tramping Drover is wanted for stealing the same :— he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, ruddy face, light brown hair, sandy whiskers on cheeks, clean shaved chin, and slightly lame ; dressed in old brown jacket, black cord trousers, old boots, and black soft billycock hat, all much worn aud dirty ; he carried a walking stick, and a small bundle tied up in e. red and white pocket handkerchief. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 19. Amended description of HENRY PERGTVAL DOU- GLAS, alias THOMAS LEE, advertised in Police Gazette loth instant; Watcbjjrecovered, red leather Purse and Half- farthing, dated ' 1844,' still miesing :— 25 years of age, 5 ft. 5 inches high, fair complexion, small light moustache, no whiskers, full round face, lost one front upper tooth; dressed in blue cloth suit with brass buttons, blue cap with peak, and has the appearance of a teaman. Stated that he had been an officer's cook on board H. M. ship ' Malabar,' and was on 42 days' leave of absence; is likely to produce papers, shewing that he lias 7 years' pay due to him, aud endeavour to borrow money ; was last seen at Bilston, Staf- fordshire, where his mother resides, and is supposed to be still in some of the neighbouring towns in company with a to'dier. Information to Mr. Supt. Palmer, Rugby, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st. May 19. Stolen at Witley, Surrey, on 16th instant:— a lady's gold ' snake pattern Ring, sst with a diamond. Supposed by a woman, tall and thin, who called at the house hawking. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Con- stabulary, Guildford.— Bow- st. sine', May 19. Stolen on morning of 15th instant :— a silver Geneva Watch, No. 119472, had attached a silver Albert Guard, curb pattern ; a crown Piece ; a Florin ; a Shilling ; a four- penny Piece: fourpence half- penny in Copper; and 2 paiis of Stockings, one pair blue and the other giey. By a baker who lodged in the house about 6 months, about 24 years of age, nearly 6 feet high, light complexion, broad features, pug nose, small light moustache, without beard or whiskers, round shouldered, full ches*, and medium build ; dressed in a light tweed suit, with black knitted gurnsey underneath bis coat, and sometimes wears a blue cloth ulster overcoat, stated he belongs to Radnorshire, Wales. He has also had several letters sent to him from Worcesterthire, and has talked about gettiug employment at Blackburn. Information to Mr. John Solgate, Chief Constable, Bolton.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen from Holme Bank Farm, Chester, during the night of 12th instant:— 3 men's grey flannel Sliiits, a white flannel Jacket, a pair of man's cotton Drawers, a lady's tneriuo Vest, 4 pairs of ladies' Stockings, 15 white Handker- chiefs, 4 babies' Napkins, a do. led flaunel Frock, a baby's Bindt r, 2 do. flannel Squares, a linen Tablecloth, 2 holland Aprons, also about 3 lb. of Ham, 3 lb. of Mutton, 4 lb. of Beef, and 1 lb. of Butter. Supposed by two women and a man ; the first woman about 21 years of fge, 5 feet high, dark brown hair, low on forehead, but brushtd back ; dressed in brown shabby dress, red and black plaid shawl, small pattern, and who pawned the stolen articles in Chester, giving a false name and address. The man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet high, stout build, very light hair ; had on a black low hat, light clothes and striped > hirt. The second 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Absconded from Burslem, on lGth instant, charged with stealing a small black shoulder Shawl; a black Bonnet, trimmed with crape ; black stuff Jacket; and a pair of white calico Drawers : — CHARLOTTE JOHNSON, alias CHARLOLTE BRATT, domestic servant, 30 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, slender build, single, and a native of Burslem; dressed in black bonnet, trimmed with crape, brown plaid shawl, brown stuff dress, and elastic- side boots. Has lived at a large lodging- house at Chesterfield, or Clay Cross, Derby- shire. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 17. Stolen on 13th instant, from a public- house at Wing, Bucks :— a flannel Petticoat; a black Skirt, trimmed with silk ; a pair of black and white striped Stockings ; a pair of women's Drawers, with tueks, marked ' Letitia Windmill' in ink on waistband; a Chemise, same name near the top in front; a holland Apron and 6 yards of Calico, has been used as a tablecloth. By a female, who lodged in the house, about 5 feet high, 40 years of age, full round face, dark complexion, hair turning grey and plaited ; is wearing the stolen articles, also an old black hat and coloured shawl. Accompanied by a man, brickmaker, native of Reading, Berks, 5 feet 6 inches high, 35 to 40 years of age, dark whiskers and moustache, and slight build; dressed in dark tweed coat, cord trousers, soft billycock hat, and heavy nailed boots. Information to Inspector Sutton, Police Station, Linslade, Buckj.— Bow- st May 17. Stolen at Stamford about 5.30 a. m. on 13th instant:— a silver Geneva hunting Watch, lost the seconds hand and glass, with a round linked silvei Chain attached. By a man who lodged in the house, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, dark brown hair and moustache, lost left eye, the lid of which is closed ; dressed in light- coloured cap with peak, light coat, dark trousers and vest, blucher boots much worn, aid the uppers slashed, stated he was a baker and confectioner tramping in search of work. Information to Mr. Supt. Ward, Stamford,— Bow- sir jet. May 15. Charged with stealing a Land Truck at Woodstock, on 28th March last:— GEORGE DAYIS, of Stow- on- the- Wold, a collector of rags and bones, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, thin light whiskers, squeaking voice ; dressed in long brown coat, dirty white slop, corduroy trousers and ves% gray cloth cap, and strong lace- up boots. Stop* at common lodging- houses, and is well known at Abbingdon, Wollingford, and Evesham. Information to Inspector Hawtin, Woodstock, Oxon.— Botv- itreet, May 15. Charged with embezzling the Borough Rates :— JOSHUA TAYLOR, a Rate Collector, about 35 years of age, fi ft. 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, dark brown hair turning grey, medium whiskers and moustache, and rather round shoulders. Police officers are requested to make dilligent search for this man, and if found apprehend him and communicate. Infor- mation to J. Wilkinson, Chief Constable, Rochdale, whs holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- itreet, May 15 Charged on a wnrrant at Biggleswade, with stealing £ 2 2s. JOHN DANIELS, about ' 36 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, black hair, and whiskers on chin ; dressed in dark coat and vest, cord trousers, black billy hat, and lace- up boots, has a slovenly walk, a sawyer. Information to Mr. Supt. Bedlow, Beds Constabulary, Biggleswade.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen during the night of 7th instant, from a stable at Agden :— a man's slop Jacket, with metal buttons, nearly new, and a round harness face Brass with lion in centre. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com plexion, hair, and whiskers, stout build ; supposed to be wearing stolen jacket, as he left an old one behind, cord trousers, recently washed, and soft felt hat with high crown. Stated that he was a laboure-, and came from Frodsbam, Cheshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Piant, County Consta- bulary, Broxton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 12. Description of SETH BAKER alias FREDERICK PERCIVAL, charged on warrant with stealing at New Clee on 10th instant, £ 4 in Gold, aud £ 1 in Silver :— he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, dark bold eyes, very much pitted from chicken pock ; dressed in a tight grey dress coat, black cloth trousers, black hard felt hat, elastic side boots, coloured front and collar, scarlet necktie, states he is a tailor, and came here from Leicester on 29th alt., he is fond of drink and low company, he has pawned a suit of brown cloth clothes here. He also stated that hia mother, named Briggs, resides at Stone in Staffordshire, he talks about having an income of £ 108 psr year. Is under police super- vision, see Police Gazette 11/ 1/ 82 and 13/ 3/ 82. Information to Mr. Supt. Geo. Jarvis, County Police Station, Great Grimsby. — Bow- street, May 12. Wanted for stealing on 4th irstant, from the house of one David Bates, Trinity Road, West Bromwich, a brown woollen Shawl; a womans fawn- coloured Dress, trimmed with dark brown velvet, and a black Feather for al" dy's hat :— a woman, about 37 years of age, 5 fe » t 1 or 2 inches high, stoutish build, fresh complexion, brown hair, of good address, stated she was an attendant at Burntwood Asylum ( at which institution Bate's wife is an inmate), and that she was desired by the surgeon to call on Bates to describe the condition of his wife. A woman answering the same description has committed similar robberies at Dudley, Wolverhampton, & a. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich.— Bow- street, May 12. Wanted for stealing Alms- box and contents, from King's Norton Parish Church, on 27th ultimo :— a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, slender build, dirty appearance, wearing a ring, with red stone, on one of fingers of right hand ; dressed in dark or black jacket, [ fustian trousers, fustian sleeved vest, black soft billy hat; carries a frail basket, such as used by labourers. Information to Mr. Supt. Tyler, Police Office, King's Heath, Worcestershire. - Bow- street, May 10. Description of EDWD. WTARDLES and ELIZABETH SMITH alias PORTER, wanted on warrafat charged with stealing £ 24 ; and a pair of black kid Gloves, three stripes on back, at Burslew, on 8th inst. :— He is a potter, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches nigh, dark complexion, dark brown hair, dark moustache and eyes, medium build, native of Burslem, and single ; dressed in hard black felt hat, old blue pilot overcoat, brown striped jacket, black cloth vest, woollen cord trousers, and lace- up boots. She is a potter, 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, grey eyes, slender build, seal mark under one eye, a native of Burslem, and married ; dressed in black straw hat, trimmed black satin, three pink roses and three black feathers, long black cloth jacket, trimmed black fur, stone coloured stuff dress, and new elastic- side boots. Infermation to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 10. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Goods, & c., from several people, by falsely represent- ing that she wa3 an attendant from Powick Asylum, and that she had been sent over to Dudley with a patient who had bsen transferred to the Union Yforkhouse :— she is about 40 years of age ( she declines to give her exact age), 4 feet 11 ins. high, rather fresh complexion, brown hair, very thin on top of head, and cut short in front, light blue eyes, has a cut mark in bend of left aim, blister mark between shoulders, and two burn marks on left foot; dressed in black dress, black jacket trimmed with dark fur and imitation sealskin hat, says her maiden name was ' WILLIAMS,' but will not say where she is a native of, but states that her husband, whose name was ' Swift,' was drowned at Hull about 3 or 4 years ago, where he was employed on a fishing smack, and that since then she has been employed in Fever Hospitals at Islington, and other places in London.
