The Names of Persons charged with ' Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The ! Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead rfa their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that hat been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6723 FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1882. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addrossed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary t& at an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICB GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards muBt state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without vh « apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once eeturned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary, INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 1130 p. m., the 7th instant, MARGARET BLADE, late of Great Ann Street, St. Philip's, Bristol, was - Murdered by being drowned in the River Frome, between the Frome Bridge and Quaker's Bridge. She was last seen in River Street, talking to a man about 26 years of age, and of medium build. A verdict of ; Wilful . Murder has been returned by a Coroner's Jury against some person or persons unknown. A reward of .£ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom), who shall give such information and evidence as 6hall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the Murder, who shall - give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Informa- " tion to the Chief Constable, Bridewell Street, Bristol.— Bow- street, January 30. On 22nd instant, about 2 pm,, the dead body of a new born female Child, was found in a dry dyke, on the Dunswell road, Cottingham, near Hull, wrapped up in a piece of old - » grey lining and brown paper, written on the paper in ink * By Passenger Train.' The body was full grown. A coroner's inquest was hel4 on the 21th instant, when a verdict of ^ ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to Mr. Supt. EUerker, Welton, or to Inspector Tripp, St. John's Wood, Hull, East Riding Con stabulary.— Bow- street, January 30. Found in'the River Thames, near Swanscombe, Kent, on 22nd instant, the dead Body of a fully developed male infant Child, wrapped in a picce of old calico and placed in a new black leather bag with brass clasp on top, flap at side and a black leather handle; no marks on the calico or bag. Supposed to have been in the water about 12 hours. At an inquest, held on 23rd instant, the Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of 1 Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to Mr. Supt. Hardwick, Somerset Constabulary, Somerton.— Bow- street, February 1. Wanted fcr housebreaking at Eastville and Horfield, Gloucestershire, on 26th ultimo and 5th instant1,:— lst, a man, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, proportionate build, and has a cut on cheek ; dressed in soft billycock hat, sometimes wears a cap, long dark overcoat with fur collar, cord or mole- skin trousers, dirty light muffler, and supposed to be a native of Devonshire. 2nd, a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 2 or 3 inches high, dark ' rown bsir, clean shaved, Bharp features; dressed in hard bowler hat, dark cloth jacket, pockets on hips and breast pocket ( outside), cord or moleskin trousers ; he is in the habit of singiDg Li public houses ; he stands up when doing so, and puts his hat on the back of his head. They both frequent, low beer and tramp lodging- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Matthews, Fishponds, or Sergeant Morley, Eastville, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, January 30. Stolen by housebreaking, on 26th instant:— a silver sugar Basin ; a ditto cream J ug ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, crest a ' T' and lion engraved thereon. Information to Mr. Supt. Little, Altrincham, or to Chief Inspector Leighton, Con- stabulary Station, Sale, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the evening of 22nd instant, at Fulford :— a gold Locket ( lady's) with the likeness of a young man inside, chaste pattern ; a silver Albert Chain, single link pattern, and a silver Seal with the stone out. Information to Inspector Farrah, East Riding Constabulary, Escrick, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 25. Stolen by means of burglary from No. 6, Cambridge- villas, Alderahot, during night of 8th inst :— 5 fish Forks and 5 fish Knives, plated blades, ivory handle's, crest on handle — a dragon, letters on blades ' M. & W. S L' ; 6 dessert Forks and 6 dessert Knives, plated blades and handles, king's pattern, no crest; a lady's silver Necklet, 1 inch wide and composed of very small links, worked closely together, attached was a silver pendant made in imitation of a snow- shoe, and wired similar to a tennis bat, 2 Earrings to match ; an officer's gold Saib, sword Belt, and sword Knot; a lady's corduroy Jacket, drab colour, lined with Bame colour silk, and rather worn at pockets. The fish Knives and Forks and portions of gold Lace, Sreh, and Belt have been found in an unfinished building at Stoke Newington. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow street, January 25. the bit, and roughly mended :— about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slender build, fair com- plexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a grey coat and vest, cord trousers, black cloth cap, and blu? muffler. Information to Mr. Supt. Young, Constabulary Office, Morpeth, Northumberland.— Bow- street, January 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Rectory Farm, Enfield, between 1 and 8|| a. m., on 25th ult. :— a dark brown Mare, 9 yr3. old, 16 hands high, fired '. hooks, in good condition, and when stolon long mane and tail, and no shoes. The sheep Bitch reported as stolen from Glyndumyn, Cemmaes, on 27th ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette, lst instant, has been found.— Bow- street, February 3. Supposed stolen at Stonnall on 22nd ultim- :— 1 Ewe and 1 yearling Sheep, supposed 1 ewe marked with initials ' J. S.' on left side, raddall mark on bacK, black face and legs, of Shropshire breed. Information to Sergeant Pearson, Police Office, Whittington, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 3. Stolen at 7 pm. on 21st ultimo, from a field at Abbey Wood, Belvedere, Kent:— a black mare Tony, 13 hands, long tail, rough coat, very fat, white spots on near hind quarter close to tail. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 ins. high, fair, slight moustache ; dress in long blue overcoat, cord trousers, and hard felt hat; appearance of a horse coper. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland- yard, S. W.— Bow- street, February 1. Supposed stolon on 11th inst., from a meadow adjoining Court- lane, Dulwich:— a light bay Mare, 14 vears old, 15i hands high, black points, tail docked, white star ou fore- head, scarcely visible, very faint scar on near bip, about 8 or 9 inches long, slightly lame on fore legs, no shoes. £ o reward will be paid by Dr. Ray, Dulwich, on conviction of the thief. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, January 30. Stolen on 25th instant:— a yearling Shropshire Ram, with black face and legs, and having a punch hole in one ear, belonging to Mr. George Graham, from a field at Yardley ; the sheep was taken away in a trap, which was drawn by a small pony with rather long feet, and in which were two men, who drove in the direction of Birmingham ; may have been stolen for breeding purposes. £ 10 reward will be given to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offenders, namely, £ h by Mr. Graham, and £ 5 by the Treasurer of the Solihull Association for the Prosecution of Felons. Information to Mr. Supt. Head, Police Office, Oxrord.— Bow- street, lelruary 3. Wanted on warrants, charged with Fowl Stealing at Berkeswell, on 20th ultimo :— J03ERH OWEN, a native of FolcshiU, 51 years of ago, 5 feet V inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, brown whiskers tuning grey, and slightly pockpitted dressed in a long dark frock coat, coarse cord trousers ( which appears too long in the legs), and an old soft felt hat; he i* of a dirty appearance. CHRISTOPHER OWEN, alias EDWARD SADDING- TON, alias THE RUNNER, a native of Eoleshill ( nephew to above man), 21 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, very light hair cut short, blue eyeH, cut mark ou left side of nose, mark of bite on left arm, scars on both kncW; dressed in a dark grey coat, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. He with his uncle may be engaged collecting rags, bones, and rabbit skins, or tlioy may seek employment as cattle drovers. Both have been previously convicted for Fowl Stealing. They are likely to be found staying at some low beer- houses or lodging- house. Supposed to have left Coventry on 28th ult. Information to Mr. Supt. Hannah, Constabulary Office, Longford, Coventry.— Bou- street, February 3. Stolen at Sandle ford on 28th ultimo :— an old fashion long blue cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar, and blue check lining, and two outside pockets. By a tramp, about 30 yearn of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather full face, dark hair and moustache ; dressed in long dark grey coat, rather shabby with large inside pockets, old dark trousers, old boots, with a. piece cutout of the toe of each, and old brown billycock bat. Information to Mr. Supt. Bennett, Beiks Constabulary, New- bury.— Bow- street, February 3. Stolej. from a clothes line at Runcorn, on 1st instant: a pair of man's white moleskin trousers, newly washed, with rule pocket iu seam of right leg, and darned a little on both knees. By a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexton, hair, and eyes, full dark moustache and beard of fortnight's growth, medium build ; dressed iu an old black cloth suit of clothes, black billycock hat, and old shoes ; ka* a very dirty appearance, and likely to be found at common lodging- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Williamson, Town Hall, Runcorn, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Februa'y 3. Absconded from Stokesley, on 27th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ S 10s. :— WILLIAM KNAGKS, a draper's assistant, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inched high, rather slender build, light brown ha; r, no whiskers or moustache, light complexion, and slightly hangs his head forward when walking ; dressed in a single- breasted black worsted cloth coat aud vest, very dark grey cloth trousers, black stiff felt hat, which he wears slightly at the back of hjs head, aud half strong laced Boots, witM heel and toe plates on, may have a brown cloth top- coat, with fur cuffs and collar , he is a native of Guisborough, Yorkshire, but served hi* apprenticeship at Newcastle- upon- Tyne, smart appearand-, fond of billiard playing ; he has relatives at B ahop Auckland. Stolen from a dwelling- house on SJth ultimo :— a black marble Time- Piece, about 35 lb. weight, oval top, has two granite pillars up front on each side of dial, not recovered. Value £ 3 10s. By SAMUEL OGDEN, a tramping clock and watchmaker, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ruddy complexion from drink, brown hair, rather long, full dark moustache, little side whiskers, full eyes, high fore- head, has a pit in his neck from abscess, and stoutish build ; dressed in black ribbed frock coat, far worn, buttons off- be- hind, brown trousers, far worn, black hard felt hat round crown, elastic sida boots, turn down collar with black tie, walks rather stiff and slow, was accompanied by his wifo, about 40 years of age ; dl- essed in black skirt, black bonnet, and black jacket with fur round, very far worn. Ho has worked at Manchester, Wigan, Cbapel- en- le- Fiith, Lancaster and other neighbouring towns and well known amongst jowellers. Information to Chief Constable Staples, Stockport, Who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- iireet, February 1. Absconded op I3ili ultimo, from Rocester, charged on a warrant with stealing a set of Stocks and Dies, various sizes ; a chasing Wedge; and a blow Pipe : - EDWAlJt) RIVERS, 33 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark hair and moustache, turning grey, whiskers shaved, and slender build ; dressed in a brownish drab cloth suit, hard felt hat, and elastic- side boot?. Is a plumber by trade, and a native of Denton, near Ashton- uuder- Lyne, Lancashire, and is said to reside at No. 2( 5, Belgrave- street, Benton, with wife and family. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant White, Uttoxeter, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, February 1. Stolen at Stone, on 25i. h instant:— a dark mixture tweed Overooat, to fit a boy about 9 years, pocket on each hip, buttons up to the throat, single- breas'ed, four buttons down front, and black Italian cloth lining ; two woollen Mufflers, black and white mixture. By a c, an about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inehes high, fresh complexion, dark hair, cut short, no whiskers or moustache, medium build, heels blistered from walking, peculiar twitch on right side of mouth when speaking, stoops when walking; dressed in dark tweod suit, hard brown felt billycock hat, strong lace- up boots ( one of them cut behind to ease his heel), white linen collar, red and white heart- shaped necktie, farcy scarf pin, huntsman pattern, and woollen cuffs ; stated he was a cooper by trade, and had obtained employment at the Stone Brevery, on which representation he obtained lodgings and absconded the following morning taking the articles described ; he is also supposed to be wanted at Hanley, for stealing a pair of Bootf, • which he is supposed to be wearing. Harston, Stone, Staffordshire. — JBow- street, January 30 Description of HARRY GREEN, collier, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 inehes high, dark complexion, dark hair, moustache, and beard, hazel eyes ; dressed in brown tweed coat, grey vest, brown mixture tweed trousers, with a brown winsey patch on one knee,' imd light patch on the other, states he came from Leeds, had a pawn ticket for a coat pledged there, states he has brothers and a sister at Melton Mowbray, where his brothers work at a furnace. Be left Annesley Woodhouse, near Mansfield, on January 23rd instant, stealing and taking with him a black cloth Coat, ribbed cloth, pocket in each lap, one in left breast, piece let in under each arm ; a woollen Shirt, light stripes ; and a child's money Box. beehive shape, and containing 7s. Wire to the Supt., County Police Station, Mansfield, who holds [ a warrant for his apprehension.^- Bow- street, January 30. Wanted, charged with stealing £ 10 10s., at Southwold, on 22nd instant:- JAMES DAY S PENCE, 2C years of age, 5 feet 81 inches high, brown hair and moustache, well built smart military appearance, large warts on hands and forehead varicose veins ( supposed right arm); dressed in long light overcoat, soft black hat ( took white one also), datk brown suit ( gold speckled), white wrapper, black spots in, blue necktie, laco boots ; native of Southwold, a bricklayer, seived 5 years and 325 days in R H. Artillery, took with him his discharge, dated 1880, may offer himself for re- enlistment ; lived some time in Liverpool, where he may proceed. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Porter, Police Station, South wold, Suffolk.— Bow- street, January 30. Wanted cn a warrant at Snodland, charged with larceny in dwelling- houa9 and stealing a gold drees King, a black jet Chain with silver trinkets attached and a silver Toothpick :— HENRY JONES, alias BE ASM AN, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, very slight figure, very dark com- plexion, hair cut close, recently had a clean shave ; dressed in dark mixture coat and vest, militia trousers, worn at knee, and a new pair of patent top boots. Accompauied by a girl, about 15 years of age; suffers with sore eyea ; dressed in blue - dress, black jacket, small red shawl, and black hat with red fl- jwer. Information to Mr. Supt. Hulse, West Mailing, Kent, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 30. Description of WILLIAM CHARLES ROACH, who absconded ' from Salisbury, on 17th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— about 25 yrs. of ago, 5 ft. 9 in. high, light hair, pale complexiosa, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed when last seen in dark overcoat, light suit of clothes under, black bowler hat, aud side- spring boots. May be found in a low beerhouse or brothel. Information to Head Constable Mathews, City Police, Salisbury, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 30. Absconded on 20th instant charged with embezzle- ment :— THOMAS CLARKE, late collector for the overseers of the parish of West Derby, No. 6, Harper- street, in this city. He is about 50 years of age, looks younger, about 6 ft, high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, large dark- whiskers [ and moustache, slightly tinged with grey, full features, dark eyes, generally wears dark cloth clothes and black felt hat. He is a married man, and did reside with his wife and family at No. 1, Childers- street, Old Swan, but they have since removed to No. 11, Gloucester- road, Tue Brook. Information to Chief Supt. Williams, Detective Department, Liverpool. Bow- street, January 27. Charged on warrant with embezzlement: — GEORGE DAVIS, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slightly made, dark complexion, dark hair, slight dark moustache, beard and whiskers about a fortnight's growth, slightly cross- eyed with one eye ; dressed when last seen in black Melton coat, brown tweed trousers, generally wears a high black hat. Information to Chief Constable Terry, Brighton,— Bow- st- eet, January 27. Deflation of a small Timepiece, similar in appearance to a oavriage clock, stolen at Market Weigh ton, on evening of 23rd instant by two boys now in custody :— biass sides and top, round glass in front of dial, back pulls out and is lined with a piece of purple paper, having maker's name, & o., in French piinted upon it, has a square linger loop through neck of knob 0.. top, which windj up the spring same as a keyless watch, the works are a common Geneva escapement, & e. The boys sold it to a Jew p; dlar the same evening in Market Weighton, for a penny. He is described as a man between 50 aud 60 years of age, medium height; dark moustache and all round whiskers ; used spectacles to look at the article ; dressed in datk greasy- looking uuder coat and trousers, dark top coat, large soft felt hat, white mufiler. Stated he was hawking writing paper, but was a butcher by trade, and was going towards Hull. Information to Mr. Supt.
