The Name* of Persona charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who i- e not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE n. ay be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. % » Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Ae no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Naraes and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offico Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering Tewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tte reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3) The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, Bigned by t'fle persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now eatitted tcr receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of 5th instant, there were set tire to and burnt:— 1 Clover Stack, 1 Bean Stack, and a portion of a Hay Stack, at Welland Court Farm, Wellard. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Walker, Police Station, Welland, near Upton- on- Severn, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, November 12. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— a Barn and Stable, containing a quantity of Peas, Barley, and Beans, all unthrashed, all destroyed, at Mathon, near Malvern. Stolen, on 17th instant, from a lady whilst waiting at the Neath Station on the Great Western Railway :— two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, issued at the Glamorganshire Bank, Neath, beiDg two of the following numbers :— 62 | H from 42401 to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and from 42410, 424 U, 42415, 42416, 42417, 42418. Stolen from the person at Preston, on 13th instant :— a fold Watch, No. 8704, ruaker Dent, London, had a gold dial, black fingers, and plain back, had attached a silver Locket, without glass, and Chain. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston.— Bow- street, November 17. Between 6 and 7 p. m. on 13th instant, John Nelson was assaulted and robbed near Exeat- bridge, West Dean, Sussex, of 15s. 6d. in silver Money :— by two men, who went towards Seaford, each about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, dark hair, long heavy whiskers and moustache, one rather slight, the other stout figure ; had the appearance of navvies; dressed in brown or drab navvy slops, fustian or cord trousers, and caps with peaks; were of dirty appearance. Remanded at Dunstable till 84th instant, eharg- od with burglary : — FREDERICK SMITH, 36 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, brown hair, cut close, grey eyes, DO whiskers, & c., states he iB a shoemaker, and a native of Bradford ; dressed in shabby black suit, and billvcock bat. JOHN JACKSON, 49 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, erect figure, fiag on chest, labourer from Bradford ; dressed in old black coat, corduroy trousers, black billy hat. And WALTER MAJOR, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3i inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, small sandy moustache, labourer, from Northampton; dressed in black coat and trousers, black billycock hat. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Normanton, Turville Park, near Hinckley, during the night of 4th instant :— a dark brown cart Mare, aged, 16 hands high, rather long tail, and black points. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Hinckley.— Bow- itreet, Nov. 17. Stolen from Hainton, between 6 and 7 p. m. on 2- » th instant:— a brown nag Horse, 14 hands high, 1& years old, white star on forehead, hair chafed oli' both sides, with traces, and on breast with collar, rather fast, had its hair on ; also a Saddle and Bridle, saddle nearly new, a bit knocked off' top, plain stirrups, bridle single rein, rather old, new throat strap, twisted bit. Supposed by a man, from 20 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, and of smart appearance; dressed in a grey coat, dark cloth trousers, yellow worsted cap. Information to Inspector Osborn, Wragby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from Wiinecote, on the night of 12th instant:— five Heifers. By a man, 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, high cheek bones, full promi- nent forehead, very small wliiokers, small dark moustache, aud of medium build ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, with tight fitting trousers, long brown overcoat, reaching to the middle of the calf's of his legs, and a hard felt hat; he had the appearance of a farmer, aud spoke with a Shropshire accent. The heifers are recovered, they were sold in Leicester Market, on 13th instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- st., November 17. Stolen from Maidwell, on J3rd instant, t* o 2J- year old Heifers, of tlie short horn breed, one all red and the other a roan colour. Information to Mr. Supt. Botterill, Kettering, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from Pousces Farm, Minster, Thanet, on 9th instant:— a dark brown mare Donkey, aged, in good condition, crack iu hoof of off fore foot, has a scar on each aide of fore legs, below the knees. Information to Mr. Supt. Kewell, County Police Station, Sandwich.- - Box- street, November 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with embezzlement, at Heanor, on 18th August last:— THOMAS BERRESFORD, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, very fresh con plexion, oval face, no whiskers or moustache, light brown hail, hazel eyes, knees bent slightly inwards, aud walks with one leg a little stiff; dressed in a black suit, and usually carries an overcoat with him. Is a native of Belper, near Derby, a grocer's assistant, a few days before he absconded he stated he had got a situation iu Manchester at a sugar boiling establishment, Messrs. Bassetts, as a traveller. Information to Mr. Supt. Hancock, Police Station, Langley Mill, near Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, November 19. Stolen from the ' Blossoms' Hotel, Chester, on 16th instant :— a £ 5 Note, and some articles of men's Clothing. By a man who stayed in the hotel, and represented himself t. o be a commercial traveller, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, moustache, aud beard ( imperial), rather round shouldered ; dressed iu Scotch tweed coat, slate- coloured trousers ; had with him a small travellirg bag. November 17 Description of a man kaown as TED, charged on warrant with embezzling £ 5, at Rottingdean:— about 39 vis. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, black hair, slight figure, joker by trade ; dressed in black cloth suit, black hard felt hat, flat crown, and old shoes. In- formation at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Superintendent Dennis, Patcham, East Sussex.— Bow- street, November 19. v Wanted on a charge of stealing at Hesketh- with- Beccon- sall, a Coat, Vest, Shawl, pair of grey Stockings ( mended with blue worsted), and a Razor ( with black handle), all of which have b^ en recovered, except the stockings and razor :— a man, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy beard on chin, shaves on side of face and back of neck, has large eyes, and Jong neck ; dressed in an old dark round jacket, old " fustian trousers and vest, old Blucher shoes, roughly mended at the bottoms, three lace holes on each side, but no eyelets in ; he generally works as a navvy or out door . labourer, and may seek employment at some public works. . Information to Mr. Supt. Beetham Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of JOSEPH THOMAS DRAYFORD, alias JOSEPH THOMAS, wanted, charged on warrant with stealing £ 5 5s. in Money, at Longton, on 11th instant:— about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, dark eyes, light brown hair, moustache, no whiskers, medium build, left eye recently injured, when he absconded, was wearing a green shade over it; dressed in grey cloth stitched hat, dark grey mixture suit, trousers patched on one knee, all are very dirty, and lace- up boots; he frequents railway stations, for the purpose of carrying luggage, & c., for passengers. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Police Oifice, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of EDWIN CLARKE, late of Ashbourne, charged on warrant with larceny as bailee :— about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, dark com- plexion, hair and beard, is very active ; generally dressed in dark cloth suit, and iiard felt hat. Travels about the country as a watch cleaner. Information to Mr. Supt. McDonald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged at Bridgnorth with stealing, on 2nd instant, a large size ivory Locket with gold rim and loop, painted on front a gentleman's likeness, glass back with hair plaited underneath and monogram ' W. M.' in gold letters in centre, enclosed in red morocco rase, also a plaid Scarf used as a muffler. By MATHEW WELD, alias MATHEW BAYLEY, about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, and brown short cut hair ; dressed in a short brown or dirty grey jacket, much worn, has the appear- ance of a stableman, dark trousers, strong laced boots, and low hard black bat. He calls on clergymen and Roman catholic priests, stating he is a catholic and a gentleman's son, reduced in circumstances, and asks for relief to carry him to America. Information to Head Constable Cole, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen at BJ Asworth, on 10th instant:— a woman's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black silk fringe and pockets on each side ; a brown calico Night- dress; a small Manilla Bag; a bricklayer's Trowel; and a 6- quart copper Tea- kettle. By a lodger about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair, cut short, dark eyes, medium build, rather long face and nose, dark moustache, and whiskers shaved off, and is a bricklayer. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- si., Nov. 15. Charged with stealing £ 9, chiefly gold Coins, at Cove, near Aldershot, on 12th instant :— an Irishman, known by name of PUNCH, a labourer, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, hazel eyes, fair . complexion, light brown hair cm short, slight light moustache, no whiskers; dressen in a soft black billycock hat, white muffler, blue pilot jacket with velvet collar and pockets at sides, moleskin vtst, light trousers lately washed ( either cord or moleskin), and lace- up boots. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabu- lary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged on warrant with larceny, as a bailee of £ 5 5s., at Holmtiith :— EDWARD RATCLIFFE, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender buili, pale complexion, brown hair, a pork butcher, lost one eye; dressed in light cloth trousers, dark coloured shooting coat and vest, cap with peak, lace- up boots ; is well known at Oldham, Blackburn, and Huddersfield, stated he intended going to London. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded on 20th instant, charged with embezzlement: — JAMES GRIFFITHS, alias WM. ERNEST CAMP BELL, alias WM. CUTHBERT, 30 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, slight builc', black hair and moustache, dark heavy eye- brows, high forehead, sallow complexion, long haggered face, supposed clean4 shaved, i, long thin hands, walks quickly, and of gentlemanly appearance ; was convicted at Scarboro' in 1876, and sentenced to 18 months hard labour for fraudu- lent bankiuptqy. Has been manager of the Imperial Albu- men Paper Company, and resided at No. 217, Cornwall- road, Notting- hill. Warrant issued. £ b reward will be paid by the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W., for such information as may lead to his arrest.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. in centre, grey eyes, brown moustache, no whiskers or beard, large white mole centre of right cheek. He is the principal of a theatrical company which i* travelling about from town to town, and performing a piece entitled ' Le Voyage en Suisse'; and is accompanied by an Actress, 15 years " of" age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins. high, fair complexion and hair, light blue eyes, slight scar on left temple, three small white pockmarks on left side of chin, slim figure, full bust.
