The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which nay lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate at possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minutedescription of Stolen Horses for tin yrrpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6447 Noticc.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending tho same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE u. uy be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow St reet, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and tho Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should bo made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, aud an attested copy thereof, together with tho advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any articlo in the POLICE GAZETTE, all . Letters addressed to the Editor must be " prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees aud^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War OfEee Forms 88 aud 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offoring rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding ( hem. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for tho return cf tho property, without the apprehension of tho offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may bo at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition ' of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. FCCBBEHY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, iu Beverley, on 24th instant:— a Purse containing alvuit £ 1 10s. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin build, pale complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in long black coat, buttoned up to neck, black felt hat, dark cloth trousers, had the appearance of a cleik. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Knight, Guildhall, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow street, April 26. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged with unlawfully wounding Police Constable John Charles Frost, at Moseley Hole, on 25th instaut:— WILLIAM ASTLEY, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, usually wears it long, grey eyes, and slender build ; dressed in drab suit and cap. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Bilston, or to Sergeant Wright, New Cross, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. April 28. Found at Shoreham, on 18th iustant, the body of a newly- born Male Child, wrapped in an old flannel and child's cotton nightgown, and placed iu a bandbox tied up in brown paper. An inquest has been held and the jury returned the verdict ' That the deceased died from suffocation, but how caused there was no evidence to show.' Information to Mr. Super- intendent Parnell, West Sussex Constabulary, Steyning, or to Sergeant Denman, Shoreham, where the above- named articles can be seen.— Bow- street, April 28. On 8th instant, the dead body of a newly Male Child, was found, naked in a field, at the Khoss, Killybebill, it had a harelip, at the Coroner's Inquest held on the body, the Jury returned a Verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persons unknown.' Between 6 and 815 pra. on 25th instant, a dwelling- house in Manchester was broken aud entered, and stolen therefrom : — a diamond Brooch and Earrings to match; a single gold Bracelet, set with pearls; a gold Bracelet with springs ; a gold Bracelet, broken ; a pair of gold Bracelets, chain pattern ; a lady's gold watcli Chain ; 2 pairs of diamond Earrings; a gold Ring, set with a diamond ; a gold Brooch and Earring to match ; a pair of gold Earrings ; 2 odd gold Earrings, set with emeralds ; a broken gold Brooch, set with red stone ; a gold Locket and Chain ; a gold Brooch and Chain ; a single gold aud pearl Earring, • set with emeralds ; a pearl Necklet; 4 Links ; 2 gold earring Pendants, set with diamonds ; a gold Brooch aud Locket ; a silver Earring, Brooch and Bracelet to match ; and a gold keeper Ring, marked ' N. S.' £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner of the property for its recovery, and the apprehension of the offender or offenders, or in proportion to th<> amount recovered. Stolen on 24th instant, from Hartshorn- street, Bilston : — 2 gold lever Watches ; a double link gold Neck Chain attached to both Watch s ; a Ham 201 H. weight; a black cloth frock Coat, pockets behind, one inside left breast, trousers ani vest to match; a black cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets rn hips, one inside left breast, ticket pocket right side; a light- coloured summer Overcoat, pockets on hips, one inside left breast ; and about 30s. worth of old Penny Pieces. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen on 20th instant, at Wellington :— 2 white wool Antimacassars ; 1 coloured wool Antimacassar, two dark blue stripes, and one pale stripe down mid i! e, and fastened together with yellow wool; I brown mixture dress Piece, about 30 yards, home spun ; 2 bottles of Claret, aud 2 bottles of Port, corks in the bottles marked ' James Clegg Smith.' Information to Chief Superintendent Ivies, Wellington, Salop. — Bow- street, April 23. During the night of 19th instant, the house of the Rev. H. Fox, Strangways, rector of Silverton, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : — a Kettle- stand ; a Mustard- pot ; 4 Salt Spoons ; a Soup Ladle ; a Mustard Spoon ; a Top of Mustard- pot; a Toast Back; a pair of Sugar Tongs; 2 Sugar Ladles ; 2 Candlesticks, square bottoms, about 9 itches ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Between 8 and 9 p. m. on 18th instant, Ashdown Forest Buxted, Sussex, was set on fire, and several acres of Heath' Furze, and Shrubs, were destroyed :—£ 10 reward will be given for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on applying to Mr. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, or to Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Grinsted, &\ issex.-- Bow- itreet, April 26. high, all silver and marked with ci est, either Fox or Hand and Dagger. Suspicion attaches to three men who got out of the up- train at Silverton Station about 8 p. m., having taken their tickets at St. David's, Exeter:— lst, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, sandy hair, clean shaved, two or three days growth of sandy beard, lost several teeth, bald on the top of head, very sharp nose, snuff- coloured overcoat, and hard flat crown hat. 2nd, from 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, and stoutish build ; dressed iu overcoat, clean shaved, large nose, hard looking features, felt hat, flat crown, and has the appearance of a North Country man. 3rd, of Jewish appearance, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and round poll hard hat. This man carried a black leather Bag ( which appeared to be heavy) ou his leaving the Silverton Station. Iuformation to Mr. Superintendent Collins, Devon Consta- bulary, Cullompton.— Bow- street, April 23. FORGERY. Absconded from Chester, on 17tli instant, charged with forgery, and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued:— WILLIAM HENRY SMITH, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, has a deformed shoulder, which makes his neck appear short; dresses well; and has been agent to a Loan Society. A reward of £ 10 will be paid to any one arresting him, or giving such information as shall lead to his arrest within one calendar month from this date.. A photo- graph may be seen on application to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester, to whom information is to bo given.— Bow- stre* t, April 28. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded from Wansford, near Peterboro', on 24th instant charged with stealing a Horse from the Cross Keys Hotel, St, Neots ( Horse recovered) :— ARTHUR HOPKINS YOUNG, alias HOPPY, of Earith, Hunts, stableman, about 21 yrs. of age, but looks older, 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins. high, weighs about 8 stones, dark whiskers, large mouth, front teeth considerably separated from each other, which he shows very much when laughing, and is a shuffling walker ; dressed in a cloth hat, a very small blue and white necktie, tied in a sailor's knot, no collar, dark cloth coat, about the length of a jacket, cloth trousers with a stripe in them, luht thin boots much worn, believed to have elastic sides. Is in the habit of attending fairs aud markets as a horse- dealer's cad. Has worked for Mr. Benton, of Earith ; Mr. Rose, of God- manchester; and Mr. Farr, of Ely, horse- dealers. Is in the habit of talking very much of Mr, Benton. Information to Mr. Superintendent Capping, Police Station, St. Neots, Hunt- ingdonshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 28. Between 8 p. m. on 24th and 0 p. m. on 25th instant, a Limb was slaughtered in a field in the Biddewcote Lanes, Fazeley; the property of Mr. John Robotham; the hind quarters and shoulders were taken away, the entrails, head, skin aud remaining portion of carcase left in field. Informa- tion to Inspector McCrea, or to Police Constable Betts, Fazeley.— Bow- street, April Stolen at Aldwark, during the night of 21st instant :— a dark brown hack Horse, four years old, about 15 bands 3 inche3 high, switch tail, is in fair good working condition, and rather large feet. Iuformation to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, or to Inspector Wright, Police Station, Easingwoli— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen on 21st instant, from Grove Green Lane, Leytonstone :— a grey Russian entire Pony, 12 hands high, aged, hog mane, long tail, saddlemarked ; by two men, who were driving a small brown horse, and light cart, and had the appearance of costermongers. Information to the Director, C. I. D. Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 26, Stolen on or about the 14tli instant, from Freddfawr farm, Cemmes, the property of Mr. E. Breese :— 2 chestnut entire Horses, one 1 year old, about 12 hands high, tho other 2 years old, white blaze down face, about 12 hands high ; and 1 iron grey Filly, 3 years old, about 14 bauds high, she lias a lump ou one of forelegs above the fetlock, from being fastened in a wire fence. Information to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to P. C. Humphreys, Cemmes, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 26. JAMES RUDGE, tho convict license- holder charged with stealiug sixty fat Sheep from Ross on 5th March, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 10th March last and subsequent dates, has been apprehended at Col wall, near Malvern, and is now in custody and remanded at Ross. The other man wanted and advertised with Rudge is still at large. Information to Mr. Superintendent Smith, Ross Hereford- shire.— Bow- stree', April 26. Absconded from Knowstone, Devon, on 13th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing an Ass, Cart, and Harness, also a pair of Boots ( all recovered) :— WILLIAM PERKINS, a shoemaker, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, crippled in right leg, sole and heel of right boot 3 inches thick, cannot walk without crutch or stick ; dressed iu dark grey cloth coat, recently fresh braided round the cuffs with black braid, brown cloth vest with black alpaca EIUCVPS, dark cloth trousers, new black round poll hat, and lace- up boots. Supposed gone to South Wales. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen at Kingswinford, on the night of llth instant :— a brown nag Mare, five years old, 15 hands high, black legs, bang tail, and in rather low condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, Brierley Hill, or to Sergeant Mooie, Police Station, Brettell Lane, Staffordshire.— Bow- st. April 23. Stolen from Newnham Baston, Chulinleigh, Devon, on 21st February last:— a roan coloured Mare, aged, about 16 bauds high, white streak down face, white legs, little lame in one of hind legs. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wood, Devon Constabulary. South Molton.— Bow- st., April 23. Absconded from Knowstone, on 13th inst., charged with stealing an Ass, Cart, & c., recovered:— a shoemaker, about 20 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 5$ ins. high, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, crippled in right leg, sole and heel of right boot 3 inches thick, and cannot walk without crutch or stick ; Pressed in dark grey cloth coat, recently braided rouud tho cuffs, with black braid, brown cloth vest, with blaek alpaca sleeves, dark cloth trousers, new black round poll hat, and lace- up boots ; supposed gone to South Wales. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Wood, B. Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton, Devon.— Bow- street, April 23. Stolen between llth aud 14th ultimo, from Leyton Marshes, Leyton :— a black Horse, 13j hands, star on fore- head aud near feet white, short tail. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 23. Stolen between 18th and 20tli instant, from a field in Stamford :— five lamb Hogs, in good condition, each having a faint red paint mark on the back ; the property of Mr. Benj Frisby. £ 4 reward for such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Head Constable Ward, Stamford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., April 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of ISAAC AYRES, a gunner, 10th Battery 12th Brigade, Royal Artillery, and MARY CURTIS, wanted at Weymouth, for stealing a gold Ring, containing hair ; a gold Seal, forget- me- not engraved on it; a pair gold Ear- drops ; a pair gold Ear- rings ; a silver shawl Pin ; a silver Thimble ; a pair Wellington Boots ; a pair Bide- spring Boots ( recovered); and about 8s. in Money :— Isaac Ayres, 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, a crown and swords on left forearm, a native of St. Michael's, Coventry ; dressed in uniform ; Mary Curtis, about 19 years of age, light hair, fair complexion ; dressed in light dress, trimmed with silk, light waterproof, a native of Crewkerne, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 1880. 214 POLICE GAZETTE. April 19 Somerset; has a female child with her, about 2 months old ; left by 12" 20 train for Waterloo, on 26th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Vickery, Weymouth, Dorsetshire. — Bow- street, April 28. A Musical Box was stolen on 26th instant, from a public house in Kidderminster, by a man of the following description about 5 feet 10 inches high, 35 years of age, had the appearance of a bricklayer or stonemason ; was wearing £ long grey coat, and a slop underneath, and a hard black hat The box plays 7 tunes ( one being out of order) viz. :— Remember Me, Highland Mary, Beautiful Star, Home Sweet Home, Last Hose of Summer, Silver Threads among the Gold, and Gipseys Warning. Information to the Chief Constable's Office, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 28. Absconded from Hastings, on 24th inst., charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of Carpet, & c. ( recovered) :— WM. SPICE, 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, pale face, short light brown hair, parted in the centre, full eyes, large nose, and walks erect; dressed in short black cloth jacket and vest, light trousers, and grey soft round hat; has worked as an upholsterer's porter. Information to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, or at the Police Office, Saint Leonards- on- Sea, Sussex.— Bow- st., April 28.] Absconded on 19 th instant, charged with stealing Money of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards :— 1st, Colour- Sergeant WILLIAM SIMPSON, 29 years of age, 6 feet high, fresh complexion, browu hair, hazel eyes, native of Kirklington. Southwell, Notts. ; dressed in regimentals. 2nd, Sergeant JAMES ROBERTSON, 27 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in regimentals, native of Moy, Inverness. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. T. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 28. Stolen on 12th instant at Peterboro':— a pair of Boots, a milk Can, a dripping Tin, a Colander, a flat Iron, an iron Ringstand, a linsey Dress, and a Marden Apron. By THOS PHILLIPS, labourer, late of Easton, Northamptonshire. 25 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, small dark whiskers, dark eyes, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a long blue pilot jacket, dark cord or dark mixture trousers, and soft black billycock hat. He has served in 34th Regiment of Foot, and now belongs to the Army Reserve. Information ts> Inspector Scotney, Liberty Constabulary Station, Peterborough, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen, on 22nd instant, from a tobacconist in Oxford: 10s. By a man who entered the shop and asked for change for a Half- Sovereign ; on the 10s. of silver being placed on the counter he took it up, put down a new farthing, and absconded ; 25 years of age, short and rather stout, fair com- plexion, hair, beard, and slight moustache ; dressed in a black coat, hard black felt hat, and of respectable appearance. Information to Mr. Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen at Gorton, between 6 a. m. and 12.30 p. m. 21st instant;— a gent's, dark tweed cloth monkey Jacket, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, speckled buttons, also a Vest to match ; a pair of brown mixture tweed cloth Trousers; a lady's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black silk ; a lady's navy blue Princess Robe, trimmed with blue fringe, with Skirt to match; a. lady's red felt Skirt, with black band round the bottom; a pair of gent's, elastic- side Boots, with toe caps, and buttons ; supposed by a mar,, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in blue cloth coat, light coloured trousers, and black billy- cock hat. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 26. Stolen at Linton- on- Ouse, during the night of 19th inst.: — a long blue witney top Coat, double breasted, velvet collar, black bone buttons, two pockets outside and one inside, has been torn between the shoulders and repaired, black lining; also a jean Jacket, metal buttons, second one missing, two pockets outside ; and about 2 lbs. of Horse Hair. By a man from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches tigb, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers aud moustache, and stoutish build ; dressed in stolen coat and jean jacket under- neath, cord vest with brass buttons, old greasy cord trousers, with large patch of woollen cord on both knees, light laced boots with toe caps, and soft billycock hat. He speaks with a South country accent, and has the appearance of a tramp. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, or to Inspector Wright, Police Station, Easingwold.— Bow- street, April 26. Description of a tramping brickyard labourer, charged with stealing Tools ( recovered) :— about 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thin face, pug nose, light complexion, and few • sandy whiskers; dressed in dark pilot jacket, patched on shoulder, dirty cord trousers, strapped below the knee, twill slop, blue checked cotton shirt, scarf with red border, blue spots tied in front, and ends tucked under the braces, heavy lace- up boots, and fur cap, with peak, and button on top. He was traced into Brighton on 18th instant, and was then carrying a bundle in blue handkerchief on a shovel. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Silvester, Police Station, Worthing, Sussex.— Bow- street, April 23. Description of RICHARD LEVETT, alias AFLRED NOBURY, a native of Hull, paintei and paper hanger, wanted by warrant for stealing a gold Eye Glass, recovered, on 14tli instant, at Clifton :— 37 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 7 inches high, grey hair, long dark heavy moustache, sallow complexion, small spot, which frequently discharges, on the side of nose, near the corner of supposed right eye, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in an old dark mixture cloth coat, old light grey cloth trousers, crimson tie, hard low crowned felt hat, nearly new, old boots, and dirty appearance. He has been convicted of felony at Hull, and supposed at Bradford, he is fond of drink, and is likely to be found in some low public or common lodging house. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary Office, Heworth, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., April 23. Description of ALFRED COLLINS, alias ALFRED BOWDEN, alias BOXER BOWDEN, charged on a warrant with stealing a silver Watch, ( recovered, pledged by him in NeWport, in the name of' John Lewis') also a white silk Handkerchief with blue border ; a small brass tobacco Box, clasp— book pattern, and a pair of blue coloured worsted Stockings, white tops and toes, at North Risca, on 3rd February, 1880 :— about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather broad shoulders, fair complexion, clean shaved, small dark moustache, has a lump about the size of a walnut under the right ear, large scar on top of forehead, a stab mark inside left forearm, tattooed supposed with letter ' A. R.' on one or both arms, is well acquainted with Bristol, where his wife and child is supposed to be living ; he stated when at North Risca,. that he knew Treasure Garland, a collier, at Oaky- Welsh- street, Dudley, Billy Hard Head, collier, Twidale, near Brown Lion, Oldbury, and stated that he had sold horses there ; he was dressed in a pilot cloth jacket, brown plaid cloth trousers and vest, elastic- sido boots, and black soft bowler but. Information to Captain Foll, Consta- bulary Office, Tredegar, Monmouthshire, who holds a warrant for liis apprehension. — Bow- street, April 23. Description of CHARLES GALE, a baker, wanted on a charge of stealing £ 54 :— 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and mous- tache, inclined to be sandy, grey or blue eyes, rather high forehead, and rather bald on top of head. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham.— Bow- street, April 2% Description of a man named KERVELL, charged on warrant witb stealing, on 12th instant, 12s., from a public house in Brighton, where he had been lodging:— about 27 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rough long black curly hair, swarthy complexion, no moustache, has lost a front tooth ; shabbily dressed, wears black deerstalker hat, with mourning band, will seek employment at theatres as dresser, or similar occupation, known at theatres in Portsmouth, Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton — Bow- street, April 23.
