THE Police Gazette, OR mrs- Aims- cmir. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hne- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1879. ENGLISH POLICE. ABSCONDED from this town early on the 18th inst., charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of money, the property of his emptoyers the " Ponty- pridd Water Works Company." Walter Whitticks, gasfitter, and late superintendent of the Pontypridd Water Works. He is about 80 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache ( but may have shaved), gray eyes, stout build, and a native of Bath, Somerset. Supposed dressed in dark clothes, black bowler hat, dark colour overcoat, muffler round neck, and has in his possession a portmanteau which no doubt contains his working clothes. It is believed he will emigrate, if he has sufficient means, otherwise he will piobably try for a situation at his trade as gasfitter or plumber at water works, & c. X10 reward will be given for such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction. ' Please direct the Police under your comma ad to make immediate it quiries at places where he will likely stay or solicit employment, and arrest if possible, and wire to me. J. ABSCONDED from Standish, on the 22nd instant, charged with stealing a leather bag, containing £ 53 9$. 4d., in gold and silver. An Irish labourer, who was employed by the Wigan Coal and Iron Company, at Prospect Pit, Standish, and on Monday last was directed to take the bag to the Compauy's Office at Kirkless, near Wigan, and was seen in Wigan the same day but has not been heard of since. He is 27 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, thick lips, stiff neck, and round- shouldered. It is supposed that he intends to go to America. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John M'Grath, 14858, convicted at Longford, county Longford, at Trinity Sessions, on 28rd June, 1875, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude;— 46 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, married, has one child, is a shoemaker, born at Granard, resided before conviction at Granard, his friends reside at Longford; dark brown hair mixed with gray, brown eyo ( right eye blind), brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, pockmarked, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, a number of small blue marks under right eye, and on left cheek and forehead from the effect of an accident by powder, body very much marked with small- pox ; » ' arge scar in left groin, varicose veins in left leg, lost M ie front and a number of upper back teeth. This convict was released on license from Spike Tisland Prison, 24th June, 1879; he left his residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts are unknown. MISSING from Lusk Convict Prison, the convict whose description is subjoined, and who was last seen at 4 o'clock P. M., on the 2nd December, 1879:— Charles Douglass, otherwise Scott, 32 years of age at present, convicted 25th March, 1870, at Belfast, no trade or calliog, sometimes holder- up to boiler- makers; born in Belfast; resided before conviction in Belfast, where his friends reside; brown hair, no whiskers, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, prominent no « s, large mouth, sallow complexion, small oval visage, dimple on chin, slight make, 5 feet 5$ inches high, a small round blue mark on ball of each thumb, lost an upper front tooth; wore a jerry hat, dark frieze monkey jacket, cord trowsers, printed barracan vest, shoes, all marked with letters L. P. Information respecting the above- named con- vict to be given at the Constabulary Stations, or to the Officer in charge of convicts at Lusk Prison, co anty Dublin. Notice A reward of from £ 3 to £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by aDy means whatever, aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servi- tude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. D., parish of Kilmeen, stolen an ass from the lands of Knockane, the property of Timothy M'Carthy, farmer:— 1. Supposed John Driscoll— Long nose, pale com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 25 years of age, black hair; wore a round hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; supposed to be a tinker. 2. DESCRIPTION of James M'Evoy, native of Finglas East, who stands charged with having, on the 87th December, 1879, b. tween the hours of 2 and 8 o'clock a. m., in the barony of Castleknock, parish of Fioglas, forcibly entered the house of a very poor woman named Johanna Hamilton ( unmarried), aged 80 years, and attempted to commit a rape on her person :- r— Hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair ; wore a white barracan jacket, dark tweei trowsers and vest, strong nailed shoes ( laced); is a labourer, but has a knowledge of the stone- cutting trade ; is a discharged convict, and was convicted on 7th of April, 1873, for a rapa and sen tenced to 5 years penal servitude. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the night of the 10th or morning of the 11 th instant, ninety- six sheep, the property of Michael O'Neill of Glencroff; ten sheep, the property of Pat Halloran, his herd; four sheep, the property of Patrick Nee, and two sheep, the property of Thomas Nee, of Gorteenclough; two sheep, the property of Michael Conneely of Rusheenduff; and fourteen sheep, the property of Mr. H. C. Smyth of Ballycjnneely, were stolen, or maliciously thrown into the sea from off the cliffs in the townlands of Kanrower and Toonadooravaun, in the parish of Ballinakill, county Galway, W. R.: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these outrages, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall leal to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same, or any of them; and a reward of FIFTY POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by G. Parkinson, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Clifden, to those who may become entitled to it undor the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick O'Donnell ( mother's surname Walsh), native of Rusheenamoniagh, who stands charged with having, on the 27th September, 1879, in the barony of Ballinahincb, parish of Moyrus, assaulted Mary Folan, by striking her with stones and bruising her, from the effects of which her life is now considered in danger:— Small dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 51 years of age, black hair; wore a black soft hat, gray fnezo coat, flannel trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Feeney ( mother's sur- name Kennedy), native of Urlingford, who stands charged with having, onthe 14th day of December, 1879, in the barony of Galmoy, parish of Urling- ford, absconded with a sum of £ 8, money received by him for corn sold belonging to Timothy Woods, of Urlingford:— Bald on head, and flat feet, gray eyes, drooped nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a low round hat, dark coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of John Reilly and Martin M'Donagh, junior, itinerant tinkers, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 9th December, 1879, at Kinaff, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Kilconduff, assaulted and robbed one Anne M'Donagh, of the sum of £ I 10s., some coppers and meat and groceries, to the value of St.: — 1. Blue eyes, short cocked nose, dark sallow com- plexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, black hair; wore a jerry hat, black frock coat, black trowsers and vest. 8. Blue eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 8L years of age, fair hair, swaggering gait; wore a soft hat, blue pilot coat, Windsor cord trowsers, blue pilot vest. Meath. DUBLIN CASTLE, 27th December, 1879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of 7.30 o'clock, P. M., on the 7th December, three shots were fired at the door of the house of Patrick Timmons, of Fordstown, in the parish of Girley, in the county of Meath, one of which penetrated the door and grazed the arm of the said Patrick Timmons: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage is pleased hereby to ofler a reward of TWO HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such infor- mation as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same, and a reward of FIFTY POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result, By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Antoine S. Butler, Esq.. the Resident Magistrate at Athboy, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of John Lenaghan, native of Boyle, county Roscommon, who stands charged with having, on the 28th December, 1879, in the barony of Corran, parish of Emlaghfad, stolen £ 1 3s. from Michael M'Garry, with whom he lodged in the house of Charles Ligue, at Ballymote:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 30 or 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a low round hat, dark frock coat, dark trowsers, brown vest, clothes rather shabby, coat broken on the 6lioulders; is a tailor. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Ryan, native of Cappa- white, who stands charged with having, on the 2Uth day of September, 1879, in the barony of Kilna- managh, parish of Toem, failed to appear at Petty Sessions, on 12th December, 1879, as he was bound to do by recognizance, on a charge of grievous assault— See Iluc- and- Cry, 7th October, and 12th December, 1879:— Left knee bent inwards, causing a slight halt in his walk, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 80 years of age, light brown hair; wore a black jerry hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is a blacksmith. DESCRIPTION of James Hare, native of Drumquin, who stands charged with having, on the 29th November, 1879, in the barony of Lower Strabane, parish of Ardstraw, fired at Bryan Molloy, a watcher to the Duke of Abercorn, at Ballyreenan:— Has a slight swagger when walking, speaks with a strong Northern accent, high cheek bones, small beard under the chin, moustache and chin shaved, there may be some cuts on his face and head; gray eyes, long nose, pale sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 55 years of age, dark hair turning gray ( worn pretty long), wore a hard round hat, old tweed coat, trowsers ( patched) and vest; is a labourer.
