Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with th ® advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no oharge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Betters addressed to the Editor HHSliflt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 83 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZBTTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER A MB MALICIOUSLY WOUKDINO. On 24th October last the body of a female child supposed . about a month old and to have been dead about five or six weeks, was found in a dyke at March, in the Isle of Ely, and : t Coroners Jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' £ o0 reward will be paid by H. M. Government to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kiugdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the Murderer or Murderers • of the said child, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of ELM. Gracious Pardon to any accomplice not not being the person who actually committed the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description of SAMUEL FOX, charged with arson, at Baddaley Green, near Stoke- on- Trent, on 29th ultimo : a farm labourer, about 52 years of . age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, slight whiskers, slender build, swinging gait, and narrow face ; dressed in a round soft billycock hat, dark tweed jacket and vest, cord knee breeches, leggings, and strong nailed boots, nearly new, and tips on heels. Information to Mr. Chief Superintendent Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 3. brass foot plates and fronts turned up ; and two Shillings in Copper Money. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hackney, Brownhilts, or to Sergeant Cockerhll, Police Station, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Balsall Heath, between 6.40 and 8.15 p. m. on 3 th ultimo: 2 silver Tea- spoons, marked ' M. A. S.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs; butter Knife, blade and handle engraved ; a Salt and a Mus- tard Spoon, electro- plated; a cameo Brooch and Ear- rings, figure of a. female's head ; a large round Brooch, plated ; a pair of silver Ear- drops, and a pair of gilt Ditto ; a keeper Ring, engraved ; a dress Ditto, set with 6 green stones, a large one iu centre ; a small pearl handle Penknife ; a man's dark cloth frock Overcoat, velvet collar, two pockets behind, and one inside left breast; a small drab woollen Shawl ; a pair of elastic side Boots, woman's size; and about £ 1 in silver. Between 10 p. m. on 1st. and 6 a. m. on 2ud instant, Aelwyducba farm- house, near Tremerchion, win broken into, and stolen therein : a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new, white leather socks inside ; a pair of light lace- up Boots, nearly new ; two pairs of strong half watertight Boots, plates on toes, the upper of one of the right boots cut nearly through; two black aud white plaid cotton Shirts, the collar of one mended with plaid of a smaller pattern; a toy's drab and white flannel Shirt, the sleeves mended with material of a different colour; a drab Jacket and ditto Vest, nearly new ; two linen Collars, marked ' 14'; a Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Hymn Book, ' Mary Lomax, Bryngwin Bach' written inside cover ; a light drab willed monkey Jacket, ' T. F.' marked in Indian ink on lining near collar, recently washed ; aud three white flannel Singlets. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hughes, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- st., December 5. Between 11 a. m. 30th ultimo, and 8 a. m. 1st instant, the lock- up shop, Stoke- on- Trent, was entered and stolen : three Razors, with black handles ; two ditto, white handles ; six black snuff Boxes, silver gilt edges ; two pairs of Scissors j a 3igar- case ; and a pair of common sleeve Links. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Aston, near Birmingham, between 3' 30 p. m. and 5 p. m. on 29th ultimo : a lady's gold open- faced English lever Watch, No. 62273, enamelled dial, and engraved case ; also a lady's gold Chain, diamond pattern. Information to Mr. Superintendent Gallaway, Coustabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham.— Cow- street, December 3. FORGERY. Description of DAVID ANDERSON, late of 136, Wool Exchange, Coleman- street, London, E. C., charged on a warrant with forgery and. intent to defraud the Union Bank of Kingston- upon- Hull, Limited, of £ 300 : he is 36 or 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, light brown hair and moustache. Information to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 3. ROBBERY AMD LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, at Preston, on 14th ultimo, a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, with gold dial, chased back, shield in centre, has the name ' Fraser' on works, and an elastic string attached ; also a gold oval Brooch, a turquoise and four brilliants set in centre ; a gold Brooch with a yellow stone in centre ; a pair of antique Ear- rings, set with diamonds and pearls, in a morocco case, lined with blue velvet at the bottom and blue satin at the top inside ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, deep colour, drops having a carbuncle in each, in a case similar to the one above named ; and a lady's gold Ring, set with turquoise stoue in centre and two brilliants. Informa- tion to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 5. Stolen by means of burglary, at Handsworth, during the night of 30th ultimo : a long brown mixture ribbed cloth Overcoat, single- breasted, man's size ; a pair of brown cloth Trousers, fly fronts ; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, block fronts, nearly new ; a Jacket and Vest, grey plaid, both double- breasted ; 2 calico Shirts, one marked ' Henry II anley, 2nd Warwick Militia'; a pair of light grey worsted Stocking-!; a blue and white plaid Scarf; a calico Shirt, old- fashioned, very high collar; one red and white cotton Handkerchief; and 4s. 9d. in Money. Information to Mr. Superintendent Whitehurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Hands- worth, near Bivmingham. — Bow- street, December 3. Between 8\ 30p. m. 21st, and 8' 30 a. m. 22nd ultimo, a shop at Widnes was broken into, and stolen therein : 3 dark brown cardigan Jackets ; 3 light and 2 dark coloured cotton Handkerchiefs; 6 or 7 men's Shirts, different patterns and colours; 3 small Turkey red pocket Handkerchiefs ; 4 blue flannel Jackets, two lined with grey linsey, two not lined, pockets outside, black iron buttons, man's size; 2 pairs of Blankets, stitched round with red worsted ; 4 printed woollen Shirts, two black and white spots, one red with black spots, the other black with yellow spots or black with red spots, man's size ; 12 pairs of men's knitted Socks, some dark grey, and some light grey; 1 blue flannel Shirt, all new. At 9' 30 a. m. on " 32nd ultimo, 2 Jackets and 2 Shirts ( part of this property) were pledged in Warrington by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, clean shaved, full face; dressed in blue reefer jacket, cloth cap, woollen shirt grey with red stripes. Had the appearance of a tramping navvy. And a woman, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light auburn hair, inclined to be wavy ; had an old black shawl over her head, and was of dissipated appearance. Information to Mr. Superintendent Brindle, County Police Office, Prescot, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 1. Supposed stolen at Flashbrook, near Newport, Salop> between 26th and 28th ultimo : a yearling Lamb, Shropshire Down breed, with black face and legs. Information to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Police Office, Stone, or to Sergeant Mayland, Police Office, Eccleshall, near Stafford.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen at West Mailing, between 8 a. m. on 30th ultimo, and 8 am. on lat instant: a Southdown ewe Sheep, pure bred, has no marks, but may be in Jamb, would weigh 10 or 11 stone, the property of the Misses Savage. Information to Mr. _ Superintendent Hulse, Kent Constabulary, Police Station, West Mailing.— Bow- street, December 5. Stolen from a field at East Grinstead, on the night of 8th ultimo : a black gelding Pony, 13 hands high, aged, has white hairs on back from saddle, and a spavin on one hock, it was bought from the Lewes ' Smith's,' at Forest- Row Fair, on 8th ultimo. Information tn Mr. Superintendent Berry, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- stree'., December 3. Stolen from a stable at Finchvm, on 25th ultimo : a. Mare ( recovered). By— BINNINGHAM, about 22 yrs. of age. 5 feet high, light complexion, pockpitted, no whiskers, slight scratch on face, recently made ; dressed iu light over- coat, black chummey hat, tight legged trousers, and clogs ; is fond of dancing and singing in public houses, formerly travelled to fail's with a showman named Francis, as the champion clog dancer, was last seen between Brandon aud Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Sewter, Downham Market, Norfolk, who holds a wariaut for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 3. _ Stolen from a field in Ifilev, Oxon, on 29th ultimo : three Oxford down She- p, viz :— two fat Teg?, and one store Teg, marked on near side with the letters ' J . S. P.' in red paint the property of Mr. Jas. Found at Biddenden, Kent, on 8th ultimo, supposed stolen : 20 Kent Ewe Sheep, one with black head and legs, red liver mark on back. Information to Mr. Superintendent Waghorn, Kent Constabulary, Cranbrook.— Bow- street, Dec. 3. Stolen during the night of 28th ultimo, at Plox Green, near Minsterley : a brown half- bred wagon Mare, 15 hands high, 7 years old, white streak from forehead to end of nose, white nose ; aud a brown filly Colt, which was suckling on the Mare. Information to Mr. Superintendent Howells, Shrewsbury, or Sergeant Langford, Mmsterley, Salop.— Bow- street, December 3. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of 5th instant, a machine- house at the • Cannock Lodge Colliery, Newtown, Essington, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a long blue pilot cloth Over- coat, velvet collar, two pockets outside, one of them torn, one • do. inside left breast, black buttons ; one Skirt, flap torn, in the pockets were three handkerchiefs— one rqd chequred cotton, one large white ditto, one small ditto ditto, and some Papers; a double- breasted dark cloth short Jacket, flap pockets on hips, both have holes iu, small ticket pocket right side, and a pocket inside and outside left breast; one blue check Towel; a white huckaback ditto, three red stripes aoross each end, centre stripe broadest; a pair of Skates with Stolen at Higher Blackley, on 23th ultimo, a dark brown Mare, which has since been found slaughtered at Wood's knacker yard mills, Miles Platting, by a boy, 11 years of age, fresh complexion, and full face ; dressed in dark clothes and Scotch cap. It is supposed he will be found sleeping out in brick kilns, & c. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- strcst, December 1. Found in Brierley Hill on 25th ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark brown half bred Horse, aged, about 15 hands high, the near fore foot, aud the off hind foot both white, saddle mark on chine, white mark down the face, tail cut., rough coat, and in low condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, Police Office, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 1. Supposed stolen on the eight of 25th ultimo, from a field at Sowdley, near Market Drayton, a yearling Lamb, Shrop- shire Down Breed, with black face and legs ; the property of Mr. Samuel Glassy, farmer, of Sowdley, Salop. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Merricks, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, December 1. Stolen frcm a field at Brierley Hill, on 27th ultimo : one Hereford Heifer, coming 3 years old, white head, white streak down the back, roan coloured sides, horns about 10 or 12 ins. long, in fair condition; and two red and white spotted Stirks, coming 2 years old, very long hair on them, Irish breed, and in fair condition. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Woollaston, Police Office, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, December 1. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Bromstead Heath, between 10 a. m. on 22nd, and 8 a. m. on 23rd ultimo : a black faced ewe Sheep, of the South Down breed, and marked with the letter ' P.' with pitch on the rump. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Forebridge, Stafford, or to Sergeant Dix, Police Station, Church Eaton, near Stafford.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen at Ettingshall, near Bilston, on the night of 3rd instant: a Bay half bred Horse, aged, 14 hands 1 inch high, white star on forehead, saddle mark, white ring round near fore fetlock, fore feet very flat, long mane and tail, it is supposed they may clip him and alter his appearance. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Constabulary Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- s: reet. December 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with stealing a quantity of new Brussels Carpet, best quality, ou 27th ultimo : —. NEWTON ( name supposed to be fictitious), about, 65 years of agf, medium height, grey- hair ; wai wearing a light grey waterproof cloak, of lady- like appearance, and speaks well; was accompanied by a man who she represented as her eon, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, lair complexion, brown hair, small moustache, slight whiskers; wore a ling brown overcoat, aud black billycock hat. The woman ordered the Carpets and had theni sei t to a respectable house, which she stated had just been let to her, and immediately afterwards left the city, taking the Carpets with her. Information to Head Constable Norris, Coventry, who holds a warrant to apprehend her.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen on 2nd instant, at St. Albau's : a lady's black leather Bag, with white metal clasp; and a 12- keyed Accordian, the keys are the same as on a concertinia, aE< i the two bass keys are brass, and a piece of thin wood OEI the bottom painted blue, with the number of notes on. By a tramping paiuter, who stated he came from Bedford, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, long sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark grey suit, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Pike, City Police Office, St. Alban's, Hertfordshire.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen on 3rd instant, at Holyhead, 41b. of Butter' MICHAEL BURNS, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slightly pock pitted, has crooked nose tinning to the left, tuft of light brown hair on chin, round shoulders, swaggering gait; wore a dirty linen jacket, and dirty moleskin trousers, supposed making his way for Liverpool, where he has a brother. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Davis, County Constabulary, Holyhead, wtio holds a warrant for his apprehension.— tow- street, December 8. Further information respecting the robbery committed at Eastbourne on 2ud instant, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 5th instant; the following articles have since been missed : a silver- gilt Inkstand ; 2 silver Mugs with initials— ', W. F. H.' engraved ou one, and 1 G. R. H.' engraved on the ot- her ; also 2 very valuable double- barrelled breech- loading Guns, pin- fire, one numbered 6267, maker, ' Purdey, Oxford street, London,' the other numbered 2955, maker • Maser, 3A, Wigmore- street, Cavendish- square, London. JOHN DOBSON, a butler, about 48 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresli complexion, has two false teeth in front, grey eyes, brown hair parted in centre and usually brushed back at sides, few daik whiskers at sides of face, shaved un- ler chin, rather thin features, medium figure, walks erect with his head slightly forward ; dressed in black'or brown felt hat, thin drab- coloured overcoat, dark uudercoat and vest, black cloth trousers and lightboots ; he had oi. e or both of the Guns in his possession when he absconded, which he will no doubt endeavour to sell, as he was short ol money ; be is very fond of shooting, quoits, and cricket, and of saying he has lived in high families. Information to Mr. Superintendent Newnham, Eastj Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. Bo ' - street, December 8. Stolen at Newtown on 27th ultimo, a black cloth Jacket, with pockets on hips ; a brown and white plain cloth ditto, pockets on hips, and Vest of same material; a pair of fawn colour cloth Trousers, white S'ripe ; two pairs of blue woollen Stockings, one white tops, two marked ' J. P.' at top of leg a pair of strong lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes, about three hooks at top ; two blue check Shirts, and a hard Muller hat. Supposed by a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, small moustache, lost little finger of one hand ; supposed to be native of South Wales, he having worked at Dowlais blast furnaces. Information to Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, December 8. Charged with stealing from 20s. to 25s., principally bronze com, on lst instant: a man from 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown or ? andy hair, sandy moustache, curled a little at the sides, whiskers shaved off. rather stout built; dressed in faded greyish brown overcoat, dark coat underneath, low double' breasted black cloth vest, which exposes his shirt front, white paper collar, L, lac] 4 cloth trousers, tall black silk hat, wore a gold or gold plated ring and watch chain ; is of respectable appearance, and good address ; was accompanied by a boy, from 8 to 10 years of age, and there may also be a female with him ; he called at the Institute during the afternoon of 1st instant, to take it for the exhibition of a diorama, and he had a quantity of small yellow hand bills, en which there is the figure of an elephant carrying'a banneret, relating to the diorama ; had in his possession an old carpet bag, two boxes, one larger thau the other, the larger one green, a brown or newspaper parcel, and a map or plan wrapped round a piece of wood ; it is believed that fie frequently exhibits the diorama at schools. Information to Mr. Superintendent Webb, County Police Ofiice, Bowgrave, Garstang, Lancashire. -— Bow- street, December 5. Stolen at Bingley : an old silver verge Watch, without glass aud minute hand, had attached a steel Chain with brass Seal ; a pair of blaek and grey striped cloth Trousers, nearly new, fly fronts, to fit a box about 15 years old. Supposed by a man who lodged iu the house during the night of 27th ult., 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark liair and eyes, slender build, nose very much deformed, being flat to face, and having no division between bridge and nostrils; dressed iu greasy dark suit, hard black billycock and shoes, shabby appearance, said to be a circular sawyer, and was accompanied by another man said to be of sime trade. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ireland, Keighley, West Riding of Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 5. Charged with stealing a Cape, on 2nd instant : a man, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, long sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark grey suit, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Pike Police Office, St. Alban's, Hertfordshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 5. Description of a man who obtained lodgings at Stoke- on- Trent and absconded with a silver verge Watch, No. 2288, a long silver Guard, curb pattern ; a silver Albert Guard, snake pattern, had attached a Seal, gold plated Locket, and Key ; also a Purse, containing a pawn ticket for a silver lever Wateh, pledged at Stoke- on- Trent, on 21st ultimo. He is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, slender build, small dark moustache, no whiskers or beard, bald on each side of head ; dressed in a black jacket, moleskin trousers, long dark mixture overcoat, hard black felt hat, lace- up boots, aud a peculiar cast in right eye. Information to Mr. Superintendent Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., December 5. Absconded from Blackmore, Essex, on the morning of 24th ultimo, charged with stealing Turkeys : ARTHUR KETLEY, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ' ruddy com- plexion, hazel eyes, browu hair and whiskers ( half way down cheek), of smart appearance ; dressed in brown cloth suit, such as is generally worn by dealers, soft black wideawake hat, and laee- up shoes ; by trade a butcher. He took with him his wife and two children, girls, one 3 years, and the other 11 months old. He has driven cabs in London about 2 years ago, and lived at one time with Mrs. Wilkinson, of 5, Kilmore- grove, Lower Sydenham, Kent. He took train from Brentwood to London. luformation to Mr. Superin- tendent Lennon, Constabulary Office, Chelmsford, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 3. Absconded from Alton on 22nd ultimo, charged with embezzlement: FREDERICK HAMILTON, alias BEN- HAM, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, slight figure ; dressed in a dark grey suit, felt hat, and law shoes ; had in 3us possession a pedlar's certificate for Surrey and Hants, and is well known at Wool- wich, Brentford, and Chatham, having previously travelled as a quack doctor, he is very talkative, frequents low public- houses, has been in the Army. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Waters, Hants Constabulary, Alton, who holds a warrant for liis apprehension.— Bow- street, December 3. Stolen between 2 30 and 4' 50 p. m. on 29th ultimo, at Clevedon, Somerset j a silver mustard Pot and Spoon; a pair silver sugar Tongs, jrfain ; a silver sugar Spoon, chased on handle; an electio- plated tea Caddy, o'olong shape, hold about 1 lb. ; and a small square travelling Clock, makers Vicignes and Repingon, 129, Regent- street, London. Sup posed by a man dressed in dark clothes, with red handker- chief round his neek, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, and stout built.
