Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. _ All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Ciy. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1879. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. O Division. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who are wanted for having uttered a large number of forged National Bank notes for £ 10 each, in Dublin, on 18th ultimo:— 1. Thomas Green, alias Harrington, about 82 years old, 6 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on forehead, mole' on right chest, lost a bottom tooth, right middle finger deformed; was convicted of horse- stealing at Guild- lord, Surrey, February. 1874, sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, and released on licence from Mill- bank, February, 1878. 2. Nama unknown, about 40 years old, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, very stout build, dark hair, black moustache and side whiskers, chin shaved. 3. Name unknown, about 36 years old, 5 feet 10 or 1L inches high, black moustache, jaws and chin shaved, erect military gait, and gentlemanly manner. All three represented themselves as horse- dealers, were comfortably dressed, spoke with strong English accent, had no luggage but a black Gladstone bag, they obtained nearly £ 900, chiefly in Irish bank notes. John Cross, alias George Allen, one of the gang who is in custody, is also a convict. JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Superintendent's Office, G. Division, 6th November, 1879. ( r. 8463.) PARTICULARS relative to English licence- holder John Higgins ( z. 802), convicted in India by Court Martial, on the 39th October, 1878, for drunkenness and insubordination and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude :— 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a soldier, born at Belfast, resided in India with his regiment before conviction; brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, 5 feet 6^ inches high: scar on throat,, D on left side, and two scars on centre of back. This convict was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, on the 12th May, 1879, and went to reside at Belfast; he left his residence at Belfast without notifying same to the B. 1. Constabulary, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 6th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic. cap. 112. PARTICULARS relative to licence- holder John Larkin, 227- 14318, convicted in Dublin City, at Recorder's Court, on 9th June, 1876, for larceny, aud sentenced to 6 years penal servitude :— 20 years of age on conviction, can read and write, a Roman Catholic, single, a labourer, born in Dublin, resided before conviction in Bolton- street, Dublin, his friends reside at Rathmiaes, county Dublin ; dark brown hair, gray eye ( left eye blind), dark brown eye- brows, regular nose, small mouth, fair complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3| inches high; is marked with anchor back of left hand, and cross on back of right, bracelet on left wrist, heart on left fore- arm, and J. on same arm, ring on second left linger, scar on left eyelid, on each eyebrow, and on forehead over left temple. This convict was discharged from Lusk Prison, 7th June, 1879, and went to reside in Dublin. He left No. 8, Lurgan- street, Dublin, his last place of residence without notifying same to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts are unknown. Clare DESCRIPTION of cattle, the property of Michael Minogue, supposed to have been stolen off his lands at Coolagoree, parish of Tomgraney, barony of Tulla Upper, on the night ol the 30th October, 1879 :— 1. A yearling bullock, pale red colour, strong horns; value for £ 4. 2. A yearling bullock, dark red colour, with a few small white sp ts on both sides, top of right horn broken ; value for £ 4. 3. A yearling heifer, dark red colour, with white spots on each hip ; value for £ 4. Tulla, November 5, 1879. ( 24322 c 41823.) Cork. DESCRIPTION of Robert O'Connell ( mother's sur- name Coleman), native of Cork city, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day of November, 1879, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Carrig- toohill, stolen a horse the property of John Moore, of Ballintubbrid, having falsely represented that he was sent by a gentleman to purchase the horse, and when trying iiis action as a saddle horse, rode away with him :— Smart active make, military gait, and has now the appearance of a horse- trainer, hazel or blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round low black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; has been in the army and discharged for bad conduct. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Murphy, native of Kilcas- kin North, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of October, 1879, in the barony of Dunhal- low, parish of Castlemagner, obtained £ 20, by false pretences, from W. F. S. Barry, Esq., J. P. :— Remark- ably stout, square shoulders, walks erect, heavy gait, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round full face, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair, small dark whiskers in line with ears, but be- lieved now to be shaved off; wore a jerry hat, whitish tweed frock coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest, high- low boots j is a farmer. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 9.30 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 2nd day of April, 1878, William Sydney, Earl of Leitrim, John W. Macken or Meekan, and Charles Buchanan, were brutally murdered at Cratlagh Wood, about three miles from Millford, in the county of Donegal, by some persons unknown: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the persons who committed the same, or any of them. And His Grace is also pleased to offer FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said murder, other than the persons who actually com- mitted the same, in case of his giving such information as will lead to the conviction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the murder aforesaid. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid by Edmund Y. Peel, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Letterkenny, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Manus Murray ( mother's surname M'Garvy), native of Barnes Upper, who stands charged with having, on the 25th October, 1879, io the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Kilmacrenan, seriously assaulted Denis Murray by striking him with a* spade on the head, from the effects of which blow his life is in danger:— Light hair on upper lip and chin; never shaved; blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, flat face, stout make, 5 feet 5^ inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black cap, gray frieze coat, cord trowsers, gray vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Walsh, native place un- known, who stands charged with having on the 19 th October, 1879, in the barony of Glenawley, parish of Cleenish, stolen three calves, the property of Elizabeth Rutledge, aod who has been committed for trial to Quarter Sessions:— Knees slightly bent inwards, teeth bad, two upper front teeth broken, a deep pock- mark on leit cheek, a few dark hairs on right cheek, growing on a mole, large blue eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet 7J inches high, about 21 years of age, fair hair; wore a cloth cap with peak, brown tweed frock coat, moleskin trowsers, tweed vest, a large muffler round neck belt round waist; is a tramp. DESCRIPTION of George Walker, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 9th October, 1879, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Ennis- killen, embezzled the sum of £ 12 7s. , the moneys of his employers, the Singer Manufacturing Com- pany:— Smart in manner and appearance, small moustache and whiskers, full brown eyes, regular nose, reddish complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 0 inches high, about 27 years of age, reddish hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers and vest. Had also with him a blue serge suit; is a clerk. Enniskillen, Oct. 10, 1879. ( 23849 c 41093), John Mackay ( forgery), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 16th April, 1879. John O'Brien, alias John Malone ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 24th January, 1879. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Beatty alias Michael Deignam, native of Tullamore, who was arrested on the 29th October, 1879, in the barony of Magonihy, parish of Killarney, on suspicion of being Pierce Damer, described in hue- and- Cry under " Kildare," and who i « suspected of having committed crime else- where :— Dark gray eyes, long nose pointed and turned to left at end, dark complexion, long face, plight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair, small black moustache, no whiskers ; wore a round black hat, tweed coat, trowsers and vest, and old highlow boots. Served in the Roscommon Militia under the name of Michael Deignam; is a tramp, a shoemaker, and sings on the streets. Is remanded. Is accompanied by a woman about 26 years of age, dark hair, and pockpitted; wears a red shawl, and a light coloured bonnet with blue trimming. Killarney, Oct. 30, 1879. ( 23873 o.— 11648.) DESCRIPTION of Daniel O'Sullivan, native of Batterfield, who stands charged with having, on the 27th February, 1879, and 26th May, 1879, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Tralee, forged the mark of Bryan Connor, to bills of £ 7 10s. and £ 8 10s. respectively, on the Munster Bank of Tralee, and which were discounted, and which by information of 18th September, last, were not authorized by the said Bryan Connor:— Stooped about the shoulders, awkward gait, and appears thoughtful- looking and keeps his head down ; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair, dark whiskers turning gray, shaved the cbin only; wore a black soft jerry hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest; is a farmer. DBSCRIPTION of Peter William Daveis, alias Darkie, native of Manchester, England, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of October, 1879, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, absconded, taking with him a gold watch and gold Albert chain, the property of M. Ryan :— Dark eyes, rather big nose, yellow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black low round hard bat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; attends on jockeys at races. DESCRIPTION of a gold watch and gold Albert chain, the property of Michael Ryan, which were stolen from the stand- house, Curragh, parish of Bally sax, barony of East OfFaly, on the 16th October, 1879, by Peter William Daveis, alias Darkie, viz. :— 1. A gold lever witch, open face, jewelled in 6 holes, a small mark at or near the key- hole caused by a fall; " M. Ryan " engraved on back, maker's name, O'Hanlon; value for about £ 25. This watch at the time it was taken was out of repair. 2. A gold Albert chain, short link pattern, part of a watch key attached to chain in place of locket; value for about £ 5. WHEBBAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that on the 30th September, 1879, Mr. John Sydney Smith and his son Mr. Sydney Edward Smith, when returning from Ballycroy, were fired at, at Claggan Mountain, about half- way between the former place and Mulranny, by four mem, of whom three escaped, and one, Thomas Howard, was shot dead by Mr. Sydney Edward Smith: His Grace, for the better apprebending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who sball, within six montl s from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of any of the persons who committed the same; and a further reward of TWO HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as may lead to the same result. And His Grace is also pleased to offer a FREE PARDON to any person concerned in or privy to the said outrage, in case of his giving such informatiou as will lead to the conviction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the outrage aforesaid. Morony, Esq., the Resident Magis'rate at Belmullet, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Maria M'Andrew, native of Bangor, who stands charged with having, oa or about the 9ih June, 1879, and on 13th June, 1879, in the barony of Erris, parish of Kilcommon, stolen a letter which contained a pest office order for 9s., and a letter containing a half sovereign, the property of the Post- master General, she being postmistress at Bangor at the time; she will endeavour to escape to America. She absconded from Bangor on 6th inst.; she was out on bail:— Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, tbin face, slender make, 6 feet 4 inches high, about 20 years of age, black hair j wore a black hat, black jacket and dark dresS. Michael Connell ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and Cry, 14th February, 1879. Thomas Cannon ( serious assault;, not arretted ; Hue- and- Cry, 11th February, 1879. Meath. • DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th September, J 879. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, about the hour of 12.15 o'clock, A. M., on the 25th ultimo, Thomas Tandy, Esq., was found dead on his own land at Johnsbrook, in the county of Meath, having been murdered by some person or persons unknown; His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FiYfi HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same; and a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Captain the Honorable T. O. Plunkett, the Resident Magistrate at Navan, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Procla- mation. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1879, DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of the late aas Tandy, of Johnsbrook, counly Meath, esq., stolen on the day of his murder, 24th August, 1879:— gold hunting watch, three- quarter- plate lever, with enamel dial, and engine- turned cases; " West and Son, Dublin, 4544," engraved upon the move- ment, and probahly ihe name " West and Son'' also painted on the dial. DESCRIPTION of Terence M'Kenna, native of Kerrib, Gorthoy, near Dungannon, county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 17th September, 1879, in the barony of Cremorne, parish of Ballibay, committed a larceny of money frcm the shop of Mr. Samuel M'Clave, of Ballibay :— An old cut mark over left eye, full out mouth, ono upper tooth promi- nent, has a shuffling gait of walking, gray eyes, prominent nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a low round hat, black frock coat, dar* trowsera and vest; is a suspended Sub- Constable R.
