Stolen from the person of a gentleman in Bolton, on 24th ultimo : a gold lever Watch, No. 40,105, has the name of William Pendlebury,' & c., engraved on the outside of the inner case, and had attached a gold Albert Chain, small pattern. £ 2 reward will be paid by the owner for such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property; such informa- tion to Chief Constable * Holgate, Town Hall, Bolton, Lancashire.— Boic- slreet, December 9. Description of CHARLES FREEMAN, alias WOOD- LEIGH who has absconded from Northampton, charged on a warrant with, forging and uttering a cheque for the pay- ment of £ 8 12s. S< 1.: between 25 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, rosy cheeks, light hair, and small light" whiskers and moustache, and of smart appearance; dressed in grey tweed suit, with gaiters of a similar material, and ulster overcoat. He represented him- self as an a" ent in the Debt Recovery Department of Messrs. Wilson, Jenner, and Co., Finsbury Square- buildings, London, and had several of their circulars in hi s possession. Absconded on 8th ultimo, charged with forgery : JOHN B MURPHY* 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair com- plexion, no whiskers; dressed in black coat and vest, dark trousers black deerstalker hat. Warrant issued.— Metropo- litan Police, E Division, December 4: BUBGLARlf AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from tte house of Mr Titcheuer, Norfolk- road, Maidenhead, on 8th instant : ' A " old lever double- cased hunting Watch, maker Miller, ° of Glasgow. . A gold Chain, rope pattern, with following trinkets attached : a ruby Ring, with eight rubies set length- wise of the finger; a solid gold Ring, with letter ' M.' engraved, thereon ; a small gold Fish, with rubies for eyes; and three gold Cr'ins, one an American, the other supposed Japanese or Chinese, one of them being about the size of a three- halfpenny piece. A large gold Locket, with snake pattern Chain. A gold locket Slide. Two ivory Brooches, richly carved Chinese work, set in gold," with Ear- rings- to match. The Pony advertised in the Police Gazette of 11th iust., as being left at the King's Head Inn, Chelmsford, has been claimed by the owner.— Bow- street, December 13. JAMES SMITH, advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo, and subsequent dates, charged with stealing a Cow at Old Sodbury, on 12th ultimo, recovered, lias been apprehended and remanded till 6th instant. — Bow- street, December 13. Supposed stolen from the Bradford Colliery, Bentley, during the night of 7th instant.: a dark brown entire Pony, about 12 hands high, has the letter ' D' on one hi]), lump on right foie knee, long tail, theproperty of Rowland Biggins, Park- hill, Walsall. Information to Inspector Gasson, Con- stabulary Office, Willenhall, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, December 13. The Filly advertised in the Police Gazette of 6th instant, as stolon from Hagnaston, near Ashborne, has been recovered at Manchester, and two men arrested for the offence at Gorton, near Manchester. Description of THOMAS HUGHES, charged with Horse stealing at Aldridge, on 9th instant : 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, cut short, and pale face ; dressed in old brown cloth jacket, drab jacket underneath, dark cord trousers, black vest, rough hairy cap with earflaps, and lace- up boots with heels worn. Absconded, from Ipswich, on or? bout9th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a bay mare Pony ( sincc recovered) : HENRY HENNETT, alias HANNANT, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark whiskers, ruddy complexion ; dressed in light tweed suit, hard felt hat. Is a dealer in horses, & c., and is well known in Yarmouth and Norwich, iu the county of Norfolk. Information to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 6. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of a groom, charged with stealing wearing apparel, at Hednesford, on 10th instant, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, black whiskers turning grey, no moustache, dark eyes, and slender build ; dressed in a hard black billycock hat, dark grey cloth suit, white muffler with black spots, and a pin in necktie, which was worn under muffler : description of pre- perty— a pilot Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets on hips, one iuside breast, double row of cloth buttons, one large black bone button, second from top left side, and lined with black glaze ; a pair of low Shoes, laced in front, light made, and right heel out of repair. On 9tli instant he took lodgings at a private house at Hednesford, stated he had got a situation as stableman, and on the morning of 10th he absconded Information . to Mr. Superintendent Hills, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Brooks, Hednesford, Staffordshire. — Bow- street. December 13. Stolen between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m., on 11th instant, from a bed- room at the Ship Ian, Gabriel's Hill, Maidstone ; a lady's Geneva gold Watch, No. 70285, a gold small link Chain attached ; a gold Ring with diamond and two rubies ; a gold Ring, blue stone in centre and six pearls ; a plain gold Locket with gentleman's Photograph, plated Chain attached ; and a pair of plain gold Ear- rings ; the property of Hannah Passell. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, brown hair, little whiskers and moustache; dressed in dark grey Ulster coat; and attempted larcenies at other hotels on that day. Description of a woman charged with stealing a Coat, recovered, from a house at Cambridge, where she called to purchase wearing apparel, presenting a card bearing Mr. and Mrs. Flynn, Post Office, Colchester, upon it: she is about 27 years of age, about 5 feet high, very dark hair, dojie up in a knot behind, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark skirt, with a slate coloured tunic, black jacket, black hat, brown gloves, miy be wearing an ulster, and is of respectable appearance. Absconded oi 1st instant, from Worcester, charged with embezzlement : RICHARL) KILSBY, commercial traveller, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy ( almost red) whiskers, beard, and moustache, Ijorid complexion, well developed figure, his utterance is sonieivhat rapid, and he has a habit of coughing a little after spe^ icing. When he left he wore a long aather rough dark blue wercoat, tail hat, turned down collar, and white silk necktie. Information to the Head Constable, Worcester.— Bow- street, December 11. Absconded on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 50 : HENRY PAUL BOUQUET, late of Cat thorpe House, Gresham- road, Brixton, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, stoops when walking, has a swinging gair, very red thick neck, full grey eyes, Irowu hair, • slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in bixi^' n Chester- field overcoat, and high silk hat. He has a large sum of Gold and Notes in his possession. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- sind, December- 11. Absconded from Derby, on 27th ultimo, charged with stealing Lead and assaulting Police : WM. STALLARD, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, slender build, has a large scar on right cheek, near the nose, extending from eye to mouth, which draws the lower eyelid, arid causes upper lip to resemble an earsliorn one, no whiskers, slight light moustache, and light brown hair, has ' W. 8.' and several other tattoo marks on aims, believed to be a native of Worcester or Gloucestershire, has, a peculiar spiing on his toes when walking, is a bricklayer's labourer or navvy. Stated he had worked at Stourbridge, Birmingham, Burton, and also for Mr. Woodiwiss, railway contractor, Derby. Warrant issued.. HENRY HENDERSON and his wife, charged on warrants for offences in Herefordshire, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 15th ultimo; sometimes assurfie the name of OSBORNE or MILLINGTHORPE, and are still sup- posed to be somewhere in London. A reward of £ 5 will be paid for their apprehension. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to the Chief Constable, Shire Hall, Hereford.— Bovi- street, l) ec. 11. Stolen on lst instant : a Waterproof and an Umbrella, recovered ; a rough black Overcoat, two pockets outside, ana one iuside breast, ha. s been torn at collar, from being hung up ; a black hard felt Hat, had the name of " Burgess ' pasted,. inside. By a tramp, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, a little light whiskers, and slight moustache, stated he had been in the army ; dressed in an old cap, brown jacket and trousers, and very old boots,' and supposed to be wearing the stolen overcoat and hat. Information to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex.— Bow street, December 11. Absconded from Malmesbury, on 1st instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: CHARLES A. THORNTON, a clerk, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, . stout., fresh complexion, light whiskers and moustache, shaves under the chin, and carries his head rather forward ; dressed in light coat and waistcoat, striped trousers, and hard black bat ; has been in America. Information to Mr. Superintendent Luffman, Police Station, Malmeabury, Wiltshire.— Bow- street December 9. Description of CHRISTOPHER GLASSIER, alias CHARLES CLEASER, alias MILLER, supposed a native of Germany, a travelling watch and clock repaire. i, charged on warrant under the Bailee Act, with absconding on 12th ' ultimo, from the King's Arms Inn, Arundel, with a silver English lever Watch, No. 23524, ' Lasseter, make) , Arundel,' engraved on inside case, which had been entrusted with him to repair : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, full face, no whiskers ; dressed in a grey coat, liued with red, grey vest, dark trousers, and black Laid felt hat; he also had a small stock of musical inslru- ments such as accordion's, concertina's, & c., supplied by David Hyam & Co., importers of foreign fancy merchandize, & c:, 58, 59, and 60, Houndsditch, London. Information to Head Constable Robertson, Town Hall, Arundel, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 9. Absconded irom Birmingham on 3rd instant, charged under a warrant with embezzling £ 2 7s. 5d., the Monies of 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. November 15 his emplover, Walter Shaw, ii- oara anger, & c~, of Steelhouse- lane, Birmingham : EDWARD S. ALLSOPP, an iron- mongers clerk, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout build, light complexion, little whiskers, long moustache, front teeth broken or decayed, large eyes, dark underneath ; generally dressed in a coloured tweed suit, aud large dark Chesterfield overcoat, and wears stand up collars, rounded at corners. lie will probably be found at skating rinks, being a professional skater, he has several medals far fetes performed at Aston, Stourbridge, & e. Description of a domestic servant, charged at Bolton with stealing a pair of Boots o: i 5th instant ( recovered), also for other charges of felony committed in Bolton and elsewhere : sue is about 20 years of age, looks younger, about 5 feet high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair cut short in front aud hangs on her forehead, rather stout make, full chested, lost one or two upper front teeth, an4 is quiet and simple looking ; dressed in brown dress, large dark grey and brown ulster cloak, white straw hat, trimmed with pink ribbon and white feather, or a black hat, with blue and black feather thereon, and old elastic- side boots. She has been in service at a public house or beerhouse, and may seek similar employment. Information to Chief Constable Ilolgate, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bom- street, December 9. Description of a lad known only by the name of JACK, who has been employed in the racing stables at Royston for a short time, aud absconded on 29th ultimo, charged with stealing a gold Watch and Chain, on ' 2n> i November last, which has been recovered, the property of Sir. Arthur Nash : he is 10 years of age. 4 feet high, light hair, and fair com- plexion dressed in dark grey coat, light trousers, and rouud hat. Absconded from Marbury, near Northwich, on 25th ult., ciarged with stealing 28 lbs. of Wheat, the property of Taomas Roscoe, and another, his masters : WILLIAM JAMES GROVE, a millers apprentice, 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender build, brown hair, has a seal on the bottom lip, which is thick from the bite of a horse, and is slightly inkneed ; dressed in dark clothes, and black felt hat, May seek employment at, corn mills, & c. Information to Mr. Superintendent Williamson, Town Hall, Runcorn, or to Sergeant Dean, County Constabulary, Great Budworth. Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 6. Absconded from Ketley, Salop, on 9tH ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing, on the same day, a pair of black cloth Trousers, two Shirts, one pair of Stockings, and one tin Can ; the property of Job Spragg : WILLIAM DRAKIN, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, fresh complexion, little black whiskers, full rouud features, a labourer, and a native of Ketley, Salop ; dressed when last seen in dark cloth jacket and vest, moleskin or corduroy trousers, and rouud hard felt hat. Charged on a warrant with obtaining money by false pretences at Tugby, Leicester, on 28th ultimo : WILLIAM WRIGHT, an itinerant photographer, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, stout build, dark eyes and com- plexion, round features, brown hair, rather. thick, parted in centre and rather curly on each side, long moustache, whiskers shaved off, ship tattooed on back of l ight hand, and anchor on back of left hand ; dressed in rough dark overcoat, dark uuder- cbat, vest and trousers, amber and black tie, and hard felt hat. MARTHA WRIGHT, about 38 years of age, 5 feet high, Very stout, dark eyts, fair complexion, brown hair, brushed back from forehead ; dressed in blue and black skirt, black polinaise, black cloth jacket, tight fitting, trimmed with brown fur, and black crape bonnet. Both are very fond of drink. Carried with them an oak- coloured box and two sets of tripods, one Set about 5 feet Jong having new legs, unpainted, the other set .-. bout 3 feet long. Absconded, charged on a warrant with fraud : DAVID DUNCAN, watermau, late of 70, Lower Thames- street, and 11, Alexandra- road, Fiusbury- park, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark eyes aud moustache, no beard or whiskers ; dressed iu dark clothes. Information to Inspector SlcWitliam, City of Loudon Police, Detective Department, 20, Old Jewry, E. O.— Bow- street, December 13. Absconded from Middiesborough, charged with obtaining £ 2 2s. by false pretences oi: 10th instant : a man who goes about with a petition iu favour of the Public Prosecutors Bill, and a letter representing it to be from ' Sir J. Eardley Wrlmo. t, Bart., M. P.\ which is false. After receiving the money, he gives a receipt, signed 1 pro J. Mean, collector W. Birly, Ludgate Hill, London.' He is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches higlt, light complexion, proportionate figure, brown hair, thin whiskers and moustache, rather ginger, long thin face, and sharp nose ; dressed in a long brown overcoat, aud billycock hat. Obtained by false pretence, from Mr. Clay, at Idrigeisay on instant: £ 3 3s. By EDWARD BEMKOSE HOLMES, said he was from Derby, and that he was collect- ing subscriptions to get an orphan girl into an institution, it required 40 guineas, and that he had got it all except 4 guineas, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sandy • complexion, bridge of nose badly broken ; dressed in blue rough pilot overcoat, dark trousers, and supposed high black hat. He has with him a flat case in which he has some picture plates. H e has been stopping at an hotel in Derby, where he joined in company with . commercial travellers, and is of good address. Absconded, charged on a warrant with fraud: THOS. LAUDER, 29 years of age, 6 feet high, very slight build, pale complexion, thin features, very prominent nose, light brown beard on face and under chin ; dressed iu grey tweed suit, round black bat, blue aud red striped searf ; speaks with a Scotch accent, was in prisou at Ayr, Scotland, for fraud last spring, also at Dundee, from which place bo was recently discharged.
