C. * « * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Ai no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor Wusl be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALI CI OUSL Y WOUNDING. Found in a lane - off Welsh- road, Sutton, near Chester, on 24th instant: the Body of a man, 5 feet 7 inches long, fresh complexion, brown hair, full features, clean shaved face, and about 23 years of age; dressed in a dark grey twill tweed • Ulster overcoat, navy serge suit, white shirt, white striped • cotton socks, Derby tie shoes, and hard felt hat. The body lias the appearance of having been dead several days, and there is a wound on the right temple, evidently inflicted by a pistol shot. Information to Mr. Superintendent Egerton, Superintendent's Office, Birkenhead, Cheshire. — Bow- street, November 27. Description of RICHARD TAYLOR, alias RICHARD JONES, alias DICK THE LIAR, alias DICK THE POACHER, charged on warrant witfi unlawfully Wounding Police Constable White, at Ashwood, near Ringswinford, on the night of 6th instant: he is a collier, 58 years of age, " j feet° 3i inches high, fair complexion, brown hair turning grey, small grey whiskers round the face, no moustache, hazel eyes' stoutly built, blue mark top of forehead, forefinger right liand injured, several blue marks and a scar on back, and bald head • dressed in old rough cap or soft . billycock hat, short flannel jacket, and cord or moleskin trousers. He is a noto- rious poacher] and thief. Was sentenced to 5 years penal servitude for night poaching, at Tamworth, in March, 1870. Dixon, Esq., at Bcaconsfield, was burglariously entered, and the following Property stolen therei i: 1 gold lever Watch, small size, with white dial, and seconds hands, the glass does not shut well, has a black Ribbon attached. 1 lady's aluminium Watch, has a long gold Neck Chain, link pattern, attached. 14 silver Tea Spoons, six marked ' D.', two ' R. A. D.', fiddle pattern, 5 ' G. A. E.', and one ' A. A.' 1 large silver Gravy Spoon, marked ' E.' 2 silver Dessert Spoons, one marked'A. D.', the other ' S. A. D.' 2 silver Forks, one marked ' A. D.', the other ' S. A. D.' 1 pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' R. A. D.' 1 silver Sugar Spoon, marked ' A. D.' 2 silver Salt Spoons, marked ' E.' 1 silver Mustard Spoon. During the night of 14th instant' fiom the booking office at Codsall Railway Station, near Wolverhampton, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a quantity of wearing apparel ( rec ivered), by a man about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high, brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, fresh com- plexion, utout build, lost first or second finger supposed left hand*; dressed in soft black billy cock hat, dented at top, dark short jacket, moleskin trousers, apparently new or recently washed, dirty on knees, carried with him an umbrella. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 22nd instant, at • f'hurchstoke : a double- breasted woollen cord sleeve Waist- • coat dirty, back and sleeves moleskin, lined with calico, small white bone buttons several of which are missing, a bone button on each wrist, two brass buttons on inside of left breast • and a gold Ring ( recovered). Supposed by a tramp, about 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark • hair cut short and turning grey, dark whiskers, tattooed on one ' hand ; dressed in stolen waistcoat, dark mixture cloth • jacket cord trousers, a cap, and old pair of boots cut at th « ' ides and toes. Absconded from Macclesfield, on 19th instant, charged with stealing, on 12thinstant, a Cow ( recovered) : JEFFREY HULME, a painter, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, slightly pockmarked, brown hair, light brown moustache, no whiskers, blue eyes, broad shoulders, and walks with a swaggering gait. It is. supposed he will seek employment at his trade. Information to Chief Constable Sheasby, Borough Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, November 27. Description of JAMES SMITH, charged on a warrant with stealing a Cow, since recovered : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, small whiskers, light sandy moustache, walks with slouching gait, turns his toes outwards ; dressed in hard felt hat, and long dust coat. He is a farmers son, a native of Old Sodburv, but has for years attended cattle markets as a pig jobber, is well known to Gloucestershire farmers and dealers, was seen in Birmingham market on 14th instant!. Information to Mr. Superintendent Critchley, Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen from a farm at Chawleigh, Devon, on the night of 4th instant : a black mare Colt, coming 3 years old, about 14jt hands high, star on forehead, white streak over the nose, near hind foot white, sligntly rubbed on side of near shoulder ; the property of Mr. Sanders, Nutsun Farm, Chawleigh. On the evening of 4th instant a man was seen loitering on the high- way, and an old saddle and bridle found concealed in a coppice near the field where the Mare was stolen from : he is about 40 years of age, rather short and stout, dark bushy whisker ; dressed in dark clothes, white muffler, and shoes with buckles. Stated that he was going to Cheldon, but was seen going towards Nutsun Farm. £ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Sanders on recovery of the Mare and conviction of the offender or offenders. Description of a. man charged with stealing on lst inst., from a shop at Shepton Mallet, an Overcoat ( recovered) : he is about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, high cheek bones, hollow cheeks, large full mouth, and of Irish accent ; dressed in neat dark clothes. Stated his father had been in the Army, and that his father and mother now kept a public house or spirit vaults at Plymouth. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bis- good, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, November 29. Absconded on 25th instant, from Matlock, charged on a warrant with stealing from the dwelling- house of George Bunting: a lady's silver lever Watch, has the name of ' R. Greenhough' on the cap, and a silver Albert Chain attached ; a pair of lady's elastic side Boots, nearly new, high heels, patent toes, and No. 3 size ; a grey Jacket, man's size, with a pocket on each side: THOMAS. BUNTING, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair and moustache, has be'en a soldier a short time, and of smart appearance ; dressed in dark plaid trousers, black cord vest, black dress coat, or may he wearing the grey one, high crown hard felt hat, and Wellington boots ; has been a waiter or boots at hotels in Leeds previous to his en- listment two years ago. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Sharpe,. Wirksworth, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, November 29. Stolen on 25th instaat, from a cart shed, at Medlicott, Wentnor, Salop : a fresh Sheep Skin, pitch marked with 10. O. O.' on each side, two slits in right ear, three cuts near the root of the tail, the property of Richard Rogers. Supposed by a man hawking brooms and corks, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inshes high ; dressed in dark jacket, and jim crow hat. Information « to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Williams, Bishop's Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, November 29. Absconded on 13th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: EDWIN WILLIAM MILLER, a clerk, 41 years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches high, ruddy complexion, brown hair, whiskers, beard and moustache, turning grey, and grey eyes ; dressed in black frock coat and vest, dark trousers, and laee- up boots. Supposed to have attended Alexandra Park Races on 9th instant, and to be associated witk betting men. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, November 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Tonge- with- Haulgh, on 23rd instant: 2 black cloth Coats, each two pockets outside and one inside left breast, and black cloth covered buttons ; a black cloth double- breasted Yest, similar buttons ; a pair of black clotli Trousers, all in good condition ; and a very fine black Shawl with silk fringe. By a joiner who lodged at the house, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair, long featured, and whiskers round the feee.; dressed in old dark cloth coat and vest, cotton cord trousers, black billycock hat andjgbgs. Was last seen at Victoria Station, Manches- ter, on tnfe afternoon © f 23rd instant, lit is- . Vnative of Chester, and has worked at Birkenhead, at which place it is said he had been previously convicted of obtaining food, & c., by false pretences. Information to- Mr. Superintendent Holland, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, November 27. Description of a tramping clock cleaner, charged with stealing an Anglo- American Clock, at Cherry Burton, on 20th instant: he is 25 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown hair and moustache, he is believed to part his hair in the middle, and may have small dark whiskers; dressed in a suit of dark cloth clothes, much worn, hard felt hat, elastic- side boots. He carries a black bag, and wears a white apron, visits villages, and says he is sent out by the proprietor of a good shop ( whom he names) in a neighbouring town, and thus gets possession of clocks, & c., to clean and repair, and sells or pawns them. Informa- tion to Deputy Chief Constable Naylor, County Police Station, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 27. Stolen on the morning of 33rd instant from the dwelling house of Joseph Lightfoot, at St. Albans : 2 silver Geneva Watches, one has a crystal glass, and both have the initials ' J. L.' scratched on the works, near the regulator. By a man who had been lodging in the house since 26th instant, 30 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a pepper and salt coloured overcoat, brown plaid trousers, low crown black hat, and low shoes. He gave his name as GEORGE SMITH, and stated he was a traveller on com- missions for Messrs. Wright and Co., 457 and 502 Kingsland- • road, Adelaide- buildings, London- bridgs, sewing machine merchants. He left behind a black bag and a form of the Pearl Life Insurance Company, and believed to be the same man wanted for a similar offence at Maidenhead, as advertised in the Police Gazette of 22nd instant. Information to the Head Constable, St. Alban's, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 27. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells about 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with obtaining £ 7 by false pretences - RICHARD OUTRIDGE, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, whiskers and moustache, scar of cut on right side of neck ; generally dressed in black coat, plaid trousers, and brown felt hat. Is of plausible manners, and can speak the Italian, French, and Turkish languages. Is a clerk, and has acted as a canvasser for a Life Insurance Office. Information to the Head Con- stable, Tunbridge Wells.— Bow- street, November 27. Absconded from Narbertli, Pembrokeshire, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 29, the property of the London and Provincial Bank, Limited, Narberth, on 30th Au< mst last : ROBERT HUMPHREY ROBERTS, late a clerk in the above bank : abgut 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, fresh complexion, full face, dark full eyes, no whiskers, small dark moustache, and stout figure ; he is generally dressed in a round felt hat, grey tweed suit, trousers worn wide at bottoms ; a native of Carmarthen, South Wales and some time back was employed as a grocer's assistant, and was last heard of in the neighbourhood of 26, St. George's- road, Kuightsbridge, London. Information to Chief Con- stable Stokes, Haverfordwest; to Mr. Superintendent Thomas, Pembroke ; or to Sergeant Irving ( No. 18), Nar- berth, Pembrokeshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension. — Bow- street, November 27. Stolen from a new building at Sharpness, near Berkeley between 16tb and 18th instant: 1 tenon Saw, with brass back' marked ' A. W. and C. M. Dowell'; 1 hand Saw, marked ' T. Supposed by a tramping carpenter, who worked there on 16th, and has been missing since, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light whiskers, rather heavy moustache ; dressed in light grey coat, blue trousers, and cloth jim crow hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hewson, Dursley, or to Sergeant Taylor, Berkeley, Gloucestershire.— Bow- st., November 25. Stolen from a watchmaker's shop in] Blackburn, on 23rd instant : 2 new silver chronograph lever Watches, cream- coloured dial, centre seconds, expansive balances, jewelled, one in 2 pair extra, the other 4 pair extra, the words ' Improved Chronograph' on dials, 5 one numbered 57988, value £ 8 each. By a man 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high ; dressed in a dark faded coat, dark billycock, hat, moleskin or light trousers, and shoes. Information to Chief - Constable Potts, Blackburn, Lancashire— Bow- street, Nov. 25. Stolen on 20th instant, from a hedge in a field at Henley : a man's full sized corduroy Jacket, nearly new, brown bone buttons, two outside pockets, and one inside breast. By a man, about 52 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, long grey hair and whiskers ; dressed in a brown coat, and supposed corduroy trousers, black billycock hat. Supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxfordshire. — Bow- street, November 25. Description of CHARLES FRANCIS ALBINSON, loan society's agent, auctioneer, and pawnbroker, charged at Bolton, Lancashire, on warrant with embezzling J65, on 4 th June last, of his employers : he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, proportionate make, round face, black hair, slight black whiskers and moustache ( which he may shave off), walks erect, and is of respectable appearance ; dressed in brown overcoat and trousers, with short coat underneath,. black billycock hat, and boots ; he was seen in Holyhead on 7th, and in other parts of Anglesey from the 9th to 12th instant, and had then a scar down his right cheek, as if through a recent fall, which may have healed. £ b reward will be paid by his employers for such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction, such information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lan- cashire.— Bow- street, November 25. Charged on warrant with stealing a suit of black cloth clothing, on 15th instant, from the dwelling- house of Thomas Wallsgrove, chimney sweep, at Southam, Rugby, by whom he was employed during the last mouth : a man called FRED, 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, black hair, cut very " hnrt, no whiskers, speaks through his nose, deepcutonupper jp, rather round shouldered; supposed dressed in stolen clothing, has a pilot cloth Coat, and pepper- and- salt Overcoat, white billy hat pinched on each side, heavy lace- up boots. Is supposed to have gone for Birmingham. Information to Mr. Superintendent Palmer, Rugby, or Inspector Welch, Southam, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, November 25. Description of DANIEL WRIGHT, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money, the pro- perty of the Earl of Dudley, during September and October last : he is a machine clerk, native of Dudley, W place of abode Wall Heath, Staffordshire, 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaves chin, grey eyes, and' proportionate build ; dressed in a grey suit of clothes, hard black billycock hat, aud lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, Brierley- hill, or to Sergeant Hinton, Brettell- lane, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 25. Further information respecting ALBERT JONES, alias ERNEST PHILLIPS, a clerk, charged with stealing J40, and advertised in Police Gazette of 20th instant : he is 28 years of age, dark hair, supposed in company of a prostitute named ' Flora.' He has recently been in communication with a plasterer named Mil er, who is now engaged on some works in Bradford. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropo- litan Police, November 25. Absconded from Topsliam Barracks, Exeter, on the night of 14th instant, charged on warrant with embezzling about £ 60 : ALFRED TRAPP, No. 2468, Quarter Master Sergeant Royal Horse Artillery, he is 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very stout build, brown hair, curly moustache, no whis- kers, very fat round face, short thick neck, aud small grey eyes, by trade a clerk, fond of drink, and native of Waltham Abbey, Essex ; dressed in mackintosh, dark tweed coat vest, and light color trousers, it is likely he will try and leave the country. Information to Deputy Chief Constable " of Devon, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Nov. 22. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Moore, Maiden- head, Berks, on 6th instant, a double- cased silver hunting Watch, No. 5105. By a man who lodged there one week, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair com- plexion, dark brown hair, small light moustache, no whiskers, and red or sore- looking grey eyes ; dressed in short black ribbed cloth coat, pockets on hips, drab and brown striped vest, dark small plaid trousers, side- spring boots, and black hard felt hat. Stated he was a grocer's assistant and has been employed by Messrs. Blackie and Sons, Paternoster- row. Left behind some shirts ( dirty), marked ' H. Blake,' and 1 G. Blake,' a copy of ' Notes on the New Testament,' vol. YI, Matthew and Mark; a copy of the ' Comprehensive Dietion- ary,' and some forms of the Pearl Life Insurance Company, believed to be the same man wanted at Chatham for a similar offence, see Gazette of 18th instant. Supposed known at No. 5, Eleanor- terrace, Brook- road, Horasey, London, N. Infor- mation to Head Constable Austin, Maidenhead, Berks.— Boie- street, November 22. Stolen from bed- rooms at Cambridge, on 18th instant: pair of gold Ear- rings, tbird and ball pattern ; a gold Ring with three rubies, gipsy setting ; a silver snake Ring with blue eves ; a gold band Ring, set with a ruby ( broken), with 7 diamonds round it; and a lady's open faced gold Geneva Watch with green enamelled flowered back, attached to a - rather thick double link gold Chain. Supposed by two men who hired a pony and trap in the town and drove to New- market, where they left the pony and trap about 6 p. m. One is about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion small and sandy moustache ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, and black hard felt hat. The other is about 24 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair compelxion, full face, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in brown over- coat, and hard black felt . hat. Q » 19th instant; a water- proof Cloak and wool Shawl, ( since recovered^.: a man about 32 or 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair, whis- kers, aud small moustache ; dressed in black monkey jacket, cord trousers, black and red knitted guernsey, and old light billycock hat; in company with a woman 33 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark brown hair, full red face; dressed in a red and black plaid shawl, and blaefc bonnet.
