C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor ( BStHSl be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. About midnight on 12th ultimo, one of certain men poaching on lands in the neighbourhood of Burton Agnes, Yorks, fired at a gamekeeper in the employ of Sir Henry S. Boynton, Bart., thereby doing him grievous bodily harm. £ 25 reward will be paid to any person ( other than the party who actually fired the shot), who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. . Absconded from Lincoln on 30th ultimo, charged with forgery and larceny : a solicitors clerk, 26 years of age, 5 feet ' 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers, very small moustache, of gentlemanly appearance, very good musician and amateur theatrical performer, may seek employ- ment as such, or endeavour to eniigra' e; photograph on appli- cation. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to his apprehension. Information to Chief Constable Mansell, Lincoln City.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. Absconded on 2nd instant, from Donington- le- Heath, near Ashby- de- la- Zouch, charged on warrant with forging and uttering a Bill of Exchange for £ 300 on the Leicestershire Banking Company's Branch, at Ashby- de- la- Zouch: JOHN NEAL, late of Donington- le- Heath, a builder, 42 years of age 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown hair, turning grey, rather long bushy whiskers, meeting under the chin, dark, fresh compte'xion, round face, bold and hazel eyes, stout make ; dressed well in dark overcoat, a suit ot grey cloth, and black - stiff billy hat. He is well known amongst builders in Leicester, Burton- on- Trent, Birmingham, and other towns. It has" been ascertained that Neal left Ibstock, about 8 p. m. on 2nd instant. He drove away with his own horse and carT which have not been traced or heard of, the cart is a doc cart painted dark, picked out with red, lets down behind, cushions covered with dark rough material, a chesnut Mare, 14 hands 2 inches high, both hind feet and off fore foot white white face, tail and mane short, harness silver- mounted all in good condition and valuable. Supposed stolen from the person at Matterdale, near Penrith * Cumberland, on 1st ultimo: a silver Watch, No. 15178, with silver dial plate, attached was a short steel CTlsoa& WJpose( l stolen from the person at Penrith, Cumber- ed on 12th instant : a Boston silver le « er Watch, the 1 tters ' C A M.' or ' C. A. N.' scratched with a pin on the . plate just above the key- hole, attached was a small linked brass Chain, and a common watch Key. Bolton, about 4 a. m. on 14th instant, by means of breaking the plate glass in the shop window : a pair of mens elastic- side Boots, sham buttons, size 8, toe capped, rivetted soles, and quite new ; a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots, kip tops, patent leather toe caps, size 7, rivetted soles, quite new; a pair of elastic- side Boots, to fit a boy 3 or 4 years of age, strong kid tops, toe capped, rivetted soles, strap up front and down back of boots, quite new ; 2 pairs of elastic- side Boots, sizes supposed 3, to fit a girl about 13 years of age, kid tops, patent leather toe caps, rivetted soles, quite new, all the boots are slightly Soiled. During the night of 8th instant, the dwelling- house of John Boyd, at Littleburn, was burglariously entered, and . stolen therein : 4 twilled. cotton Sheets, machine hemmed nearly new; a man's double- breasted blue pilot Overcoat, rough nap, black horn buttons, two large pockcts and a small pocket outside, and one inside left breast, lined with grey and black checked plaid, has had a small piece set into one of the laps ; a youth's Overcoat, half worn, same material and make as above, lined with green and black checked plaid ; a double- breasted grey tweed shooting Coat and Vest, bound with black braid, grey buttons ; a black slack- backed Jacket and Vest, made of Satella cloth, both double- breasted, cloth covered buttons, the coat has three pockets outride, and one inside, lined with black alpaca, and bound with black braid ; a rough blue pilot Jacket, double- breasted, much worn, black horn buttons, to fit a boy of 16 ; a rough blue bilot Jacket, siDgle- breasted, much worn, two pockets outside, has a hole burnt in one sleeve just below the elbow ; a pair of lace- up Boots, rivetted soles, nearly new, brass eyelet holes, and three hooks on each side, about No. 7 size ; 2 pairs of double soled bellowsed Boots, one pair has been soled, the other nearly new, about No. 6 size ; a pair of lace- up Boots, worn down at heels, No. 6 size ; a blue Scotch tweed Cap, with peak, about 6f. size; a small grey shoulder Shawl, with narrow white border ; 5 or 6 Towels, about 3 feet long and f- yard wide, nearly new. In the inside pocket of the shooting coat there were 2 Dog Licenses, one got at Langley Moor, and the other at Durham, in the names of John Boyd and James Harper respectively, also a Carriage License, taken out at Durham, in the name of John Boyd, and a Pocket Book, containing memoranda, letters, and other papers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham. — Bow- street, November 13. During night of 5th instant, the> dwelling- house of Francis Kersley, Esq., Keymer, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a lady's Companion, mother- o'- pearl, silver mounted, containing Scissors, scent Bottle, j.& q.; two Bracelets, one silver, the other pebble mixed with tortoise- shell, and gold mounted; several French Coins, Francs and Half- francs; £ 1 4s. in Silver ; and a morocco Purse. Information at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Hay wards heath.— Bow- street, November 11. During the night of 9th instant the Boulton Arms Inn, Nineveh- road, Handsworth, was broken and entered and stolen therein : £ 2 10s. in Gold, £ 6 10s. in Silver, £ 2 5s. in Copper, and about 4 Boxes of common Cigars. Stolen from a farm in Chawleigh, Devon, on the night of 4th instant: a black mare Colt, coming S years old, about 14£ hands high, star on forehead, small white streak over the nose, near hind foot white, slightly rubbed on side of near shoulder; the property of Mr. Vanders, Nutson Farm, Chawleigh. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from a field, at Aldridge, during the night of 9th instant : a chestnut Filly, coming 2 years old, white blaze down face, and white hind fetlocks ; a black Filly, coming 2 years old, and white star on forehead ; a brown yearling Colt, white blaze down face, and white hind fetlocks ; and a small black yearling pony Colt. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Hill, Brownhiils, or to Sergeant Arnold, Police Station, Rushall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 13. Stolen on 6th instant, from a field at Honor Oak, Forrest Hill: a bay Mare, 15 hands high, scar near side under shoulder, white on near fetlock, in good condition.— Metropo- litan Police, P Division, November 11. Stolen on the night of 2nd instant, from a field at Niews Hedge, the property of Mr. William Evans, farmer : a black mare Pony, in foal, about 11 hands high, rising 5 years old, hair off both knees from a fall, and a small mark on back from the bite of a horse. Information to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Bromwell, Bromfield, Salop.— Bow- street, November 11. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT JOHN PEACOCK, alias ALFEED SMIT3, advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd March last, has been apprehended. It is supposed he is wanted in Nottinghamshire for fowl stealing. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coope, Alfreton. Derbyshire.— Bow- street, November 15. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of 8th instant charged with stealing a glazier's Diamond, and a pair of elastic- side Boots, at Kempsey, on 2nd instant, has been arrested at Crickdale, Wilts, and is now under remand. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Chesketto, Chief Constable's Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. Stolen from a shop door in High- street, Crewe, at 5 p. m. on 13th instant: a new blue cloth monkey Jacket, two pockets outside skirt, one inside left skirt, black horn buttons, lined with puce and black plaid. By a tramp, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, and dark complexion; supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket. Information to Captain Cope, Nantwich, or to Inspector Plant, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, November 15. THOMAS HARGRAVES, who was described in the Police Gazette of 4th instant, and subsequent dates, charged with stealing, on 27th ultimo, a lady's gold Geneva Watch, and other articles, has been apprehended, and committed for trial at the ensuing Cumberland Assizes to be held at Carlisle. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Constabulary Office, Penrith, Cumberland.— Bow- street, November 15. Description of a tramping clock cleaner, charged with stealing a small Americ? n Time- piece, with alarm, the move- ment spring broken, and a gold plated Brooch, with broken pin, at Wrangle, on 2nd instant : he is 25 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, and moustache, he is believed to part his hair in the middle, and may have small dark whiskers ; dressed in a suit of dark cloth clothes, much worn, a hard felt hat, elastic- side boots, the left one has a small hole cut in the upper to ease the little toe ; he carries a black bag, and wears a white apron, visits villages, and says he is sent out by the proprietor of a good shop ( whom he names) in a neighbouring town, and thus gets possession of clocks, & c., to clean and repair, and sells or pawns them. Information to Mr. Superintendent Sowden, County Police Station, Boston, Lincolnshire. — Bow- street, November 15. , Stolen on 8th instant, from a dwdlipg- house in Peter- borough, a silver verge Watch, double cased, No. 123, has attached a curb Chain with an old Coin and Key, also a black and white Scarf. By a young man who lodged at the house, and gave the name of WILLIAM BULL, 15 years of age, 4 leet 9 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes; dressed in dark cloth overcoat, dark jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, which are rather small for him, dark hard felt hat, wears the bow behind, and Wellington boots, rather too large for him, sometimes wears his trousers inside flia boot tops, tender feet, and stoops when walking. He has straps across boot fronts, as the boots are cracked, and procures private lodgings if he can, and says he is employed at a doctor's in the town. Information to Head Constable Hurst, Borough Police Office, Peterborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street,, November 15. Stolen from a public- house in Hertford, on 8th instant: a black pilot Coat, with velvet collar. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a brown coat, black hat, and dark mixture trousers, worn out at the bottoms. He is supposed to be a discharged soldier, and works at farms with threshing machines. Information to Head Constable Jarrett, Borough Police, Hertfordshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with embezzling various sums of Monev, amounting to upwards of £' 40 : JAMES BEAUCHARTE PRYDE, native of Dundee, moulder by trade, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, slight and erect make, thin and pale face, fair or reddish hair, small light blue eyes, reddish and thin whiskers on cheeks, reddish or brown mbustache, 3rd finger left hand deformed, small outgrowth on right side of neck, about 2 inches long ; dressed m " round felt hat, blue serge jacket, trousers, and vest, grey ulster cloak, with small yellow stripe through the cloth, forming a check, and front lacing boots. He had been for some time employed collecting outstanding accounts for members of the medical profession, and music sellers, and had latterly been much given to drink. He absconded from Dundee on 3rd instant, and is supposed to be recompanied by a prostitute, Elizabeth. Nicoll, a native of Dundee, 22 years of age, looks older, about 5 feet high, stout make, round full rud. « ! y face, blue eyes, dark brown hair, marks of recent cuts above both eyes, fresh com- plexion, lia^ lost one front tooth ; dressed in black straw hat, with black feather, black cloth jacket, long make, trimmed with fur, black lustre dress, with folds on skirt, and elastic- side boots. Information to W. B. Dunbar, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Dundee, or to Mr. Superintendent Dewar, Central Police Chambers, Dundee.— Bow- street, November 15. Description of HENRY HENDERSON, who describes himself as a doctor, charged with stealing 6 Sacks, bearing the name of Colo el Masters, on 4th instant, from the Hill House, I5odenham, where the accused had been living during the last 2 months, liaviug rented the nouse from Colonel Masters ready furnished : he is 35 to 40 years of acre, 5 ftet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and moustache which is long and thin, no whiskers, long nose slightly bent! thin face, intelligent and' sharp looking, and has vesry small narrow feet; dressed in light drab overcoat, with darK blue coat underneath, dark striped trousers, brown velvet vest blue silk muffler, clamped lace- up boots, and box hat. Also description of Mrs. HEN DERSON, his wife, who is charged with obtaining money under false pretences, from JohnProbert, on 4th instant, at Bodenham, by present!) i< r a forged Cheque : she is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, thin face, dark hair ; dressed in lono- FSSHANI 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. November 15 Hack jacket, trimmed with black fur, dark green dress, trimmed - with dark alpaca, black hat, trimmed with black satin, and white feather. Has a young child with her, also a female servant, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, full face, masculine appearance, and has very large feet; dressed in black jacket, trimmed with black silk, black dress, black hat, with dark and lemon- cOloured trimmings. The above persons are in the habit of taking houses, or apart- ments ready furnished, in different parts of the country, where they remain a short time, get into all the trades people's debt, and then leaving unknown to anyone without paying rent, & c. They have been known to have had such apart- ments in Plymouth and Manchester, and supposed now to be in some part of London. Information to the Chief Con- stable's Office, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Mr. Superintendent Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster. — Bow- street, November 15. Description of CHARLES FRANCIS ALBINSON. loan society's agent, auctioneer, and pawnbroker, charged at Bolton, on warrant, with embezzling £ 65, on 4th June last, and other large sums of Money, at different times, belonging to his employers : he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, proportionate make, round face, black hair, slight black whiskers and moustaehe ( which he may shave off), walks erect, and is of respectable appearance ; dressed in brown overcoat and trousers, short coat under- neath, black billycock hat, and boots. He was seen in Holyhead on 7th instant. £ 3 reward will be paid by his employers for such information as will lead to his apprehen- sion and conviction. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 15. Description of JAMES HAY, late secretary of the Darwen Spinners' Association, who absconded about 5th inst., charged with embezzling the sum of ,£ 54 lis. l| d. He is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow com- plexion, iight brown hair, very weak eyes, rather round shouldered, is a native of Over Darwen, and a spinner; dressed when last seen in a suit of black clothes. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Bryning, County Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged with stealing on 8th instant, at Burton- on- Trent, a Horse Cloth ( recovered) : a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, stout build, dark hair, dark heavy moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in cap with peak, brown monkey jacket, and cord or moleskin trousers; has the appear- ance of having been a soldier. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded from Kirkwall, Orkney, charged with theft of £ 171 9s. sterling, the propercy of his employers : JAMES CRAIG, a native of Kirkwall, lately teller in the National Bank, Kirkwall, who failed to appear to take his trial before the High Court of Justiciary at Edinburgh, on 4th instant: he is 28 years of age, pale face, grey eyes, brown hair and whiskers, 5 feet 10£ inches high, and slender make ; dressed in dark grey tweed jacket and trousers, and felt hat. Infor- mation to John Macrae, Esq., Procurator- Fiscal, or to Mr. Superintendent Grant, Kirkwall, Orkney. — Bow- street, November 15. Description of FRANK GODFREY, a tailor, charged on warrant with embezzling £ Z on 24th ultimo, the Moneys of T. B. McDonna, his master : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, slender build, blue eyes, auburn hair, heavy sandy moustache, and no whiskers; dressed in a blue tweed cloth shooting coat, vest and trousers of same material, hard black fe. t hat, and boots, and is a native of London. Information to the Chief Constable, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded from Redditch, on the 13th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing upwards, of .£ 200 : FREDERIC CLAYDON, ( late a bank manager), 38 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, slender build, generally walks very erect: ha, s a brother residing at No. 20, ' The Avenue' Acre Lane, Brixton, London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Tyler, Bromsgrove.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded on 9th instant, charged with embezzlement : CHARLES MOREHAM, salesman, late of 94, Blundell- street, Caledonian- road, 29 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, beard, and moustache, and blue eyes ; dressed in black cloth suit, and felt hat. Supposed will • endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 13. Description of EDWARD ROBERTS, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : he is ubout 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, light hair, light complexion, large teeth, supposed no whiskers, of smart appearance, and well educated ; a native of Ellesmere, Salop, has lately beeD residing at No. 54, New- street, Mold, and has for the last four months been in the employment of Wallis & Co. soda water manufacturers, Rhosddu, Wrexham, as carter or deliverer of goods ; dressed in a dark shooting jacket dark trousers, and black felt hat; he is a good penman, and may seek employment as clerk, has been twice to sea, and may probably go again. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- strczi, November 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house at Chatham, on 11th instant: a gentleman's open- face gold Watch, with ceased back. By a man who lodged there a few nights, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, small light moustache, no whiskers, lost a tooth left side of upper jaw, eyes look red ; dressed in black ribbed cloth coat, pockets on hips, drab and brown striped vest, dark small plaid trousers, and round hard felt hat. Obtained employment of a life insurance agent as collector, and absconded two days after. Stated he was a grocer's assistant, and had been employed at 183, Union- street, Borough, London. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham. — Bow- street, November 13. Description of CHARLES MANSER, charged with stealing a Coat and Vest, ( found pledged), on 29th ultimo : about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light br? wn hair, and small moustache; dressed in cord, trousers, tweed coat, clftth vest, and hard round felt hat, with a piece of crape round it; he is a labourer. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Information to Head Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, November 11. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bridgwater, Somerset, on 7th instant : a lady's silver English lever Watch, silver face, gold hands, ' Lyme Regis, Dorsetshire' inside case, ' J. D.' on bow ; a lady's long gold watch Chain ; a lady's gold Necklet, broken ; two gold Lockets, one blue enamel, the other embossed oak leaves, ' M. M.' engraved thereon ; a gold Albert Chain; two gold Seals, one white stone, the other stone missing, a gold keeper Ring ; a gold signet Ring, set with hair, mark ' A. M.' ; and two pairs of gold Ear- rings. By a man who lodged in the house'two nights, representing himself about to open a grocery business, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, middle build, bad teeth, light hair and complexion, no moustache, very little whiskers, tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in dark speckled cut- back jacket, black trousers, black bowler hat, white worsted scarf, laced boots, upper leather of one boot patched; he left behind a silver mounted Flageolet, supposed stolen. Information to Head Constable Lear, Bridgwater, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, November 11. Description of ALFRED PENSON, subject to Police supervision, who has absconded from, Stafford, also charged with stealing £ 3 10s. : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, proportionate build, oval face, brown hair and eyes ; native of Newport, Salop, and has been recently employed as a fishmonger's assistant, and was dressed as such when he absconded. Description of THOMAS MEARS, alias CAPTAIN GILLON,; alias CAPTAIN MILES, commercial agent, has been latterly canvassing for orders in the book line, who has failed to report himself at Exeter since August: he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, heavy whiskers and moustache, hair parted in centre, of respectable appearance, and talks fluently ; marks of ' M. Y. M. L.' and half a bracelet on left arm, anchor on the back of left hand, half a bracelet on right arm, and star on back of right hand; dressed in a brown striped tweed monkey jacket, trousers and vest the same material, patent leather boots, silk box hat, and sometimes wears a brown cloth helmet. Convicted at Exeter on 5th May, 1873, for obtaining goods by false pretences, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and 5 years police supervision. No. A 377, a convict on licence, discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 22nd June, 1878, who has failed to report himself as required : he is 30 years of age, 5 feet 6£ inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, sandy whiskers, red tattoo marks left arm, scar right buttock and back of neck ; on 14th July, 1874, he was sentenced by court martial at Walmer, to 5 years penal servitude, for insubordination and personal violence. Description of CHABLES TOWN, alias GEOEGE PABBOTT, who is subject to police supervision, and who left the Kent County Police District, at Yalding, on 24th September last, without notifyieg his intention to do so : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, long face, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, woman and bracelet right arm, bunch of flowers left arm, Indian hunter, rose tree, dog, and elephant on chest, mole right cheek, lost part of right forefinger. Was convicted at the Central Criminal Court in Febiuary, 1874, and sentenced to 9 calendar months hard labour, also convicted at the same place on 5th February, 1877, and sentenced to 18 calendar months hard labour each time for uttering counterfeit coin.
