INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUHDIIG. Description of EDWARD MAGUIRE, an Irish labourer, committed for trial at the next Stafford Assizes, on f> th instant, for unlawfully wounding : 58 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, turning grey, small whiskers on upper part of face, shaves round face, swarthy complexion, going bald on top of head, very thick hands, and bruises on back ; dressed in faded black cloth coat, dark brown vest, very old, fastens with two brace buttons, striped baragan trousers, and navvy boots. He says he has been 33 years in America and left about 12 months ago, and has worked in the Isle of Man, and at Liverpoil as a sawyer's labourer. Information to Sergeant Hammond, Police Station, Shenstone, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 1'. Absconded trom Machynlleth, on 26th instant, charged with cutting and wounding with attempt to maim : GABRIEL DAYIES, of Machynlleth, hawker, about 50 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9£ or 10 inches high, grey eyes, brown hair, turning grey, whiskers of a short growth, sallow complexion, walks erect, proportionately built, of drunken and disorderly habits ; supposed to be well dressed, is a native of Carmar- then ; has in his possession a pedlar's certificate, granted in Montgomeryshire, on 4th instant. Information at the Chief Constable's Office. Newtown, or to Police Constable Robeits, Machynlleth. Montgomeryshire, who holds the ^ arrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 30. Wanted at Barrow, for the murder of his wife, supposed on night of 19th instant: WILLIAM McGUINNESS, 37 years of age ( looks 45 or 50), 5 feet 4 inches high, slightly h iw- legged, fight complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, broad features, wide mouth, several sears on forehead sharp and loud spoken, round shouldered, and stoops a' little when walking ; dress believed to be dirty fustian, and generally wears a soft cap, which he pulls to the bfck of his head, showing the scars on his forehead. Is a mortar mixer for masons or bricklayers, is very talkative, fond of drink, and is known in Lancashire amongst masons and bricklayers as DOG McGUINNESS. Will frequent common lodging lodging- houses when in a town, and when in country places will sleep in hay ricks or out- buildings. Description of three men suspected of having committed a violent assault on the highway upon Mr. David James Jenkins, of Llancadle, at St. Nicholas, near Cardiff, between 11 and 12 p. m. on 26tli ultimo, and stealing from his person between £ 4 and £ 5 in Gold and Silver ; a silver lever double case Watch, No. 24274, maker's name Heitzman, Cardiff : one is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light hair, and whiskers meeting under the chili; dressed in a short coat or monkey jacket, moleskin trousers, and a soft bowler hat ; he appeared like a mason, spoke English, but supposed to be a Welshman. The other two were dressed in tight- fitting long black coats, buttoned up, and soft bowler hats, from 25 to 30 years of age, and about 5 ft. 9 or 10 inches high. Stolen from the person, on the Newmarket Race- course, on 22nd instant : an old- fashioned gold Watch, yellow dial, maker Fisher, Cockspur- street, London. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at Merthyr Tydfil, on 14th instant : a gentleman's gold lever stop Watch, open- face, white dial, centre seconds, No. 66370. Stolen from the person on 23rd instant : 3 gold Watches, one, makers name T. Cox and Savouy, Cor: hill, No. 7584 ; another with white dial, centre seconds, compensation balance, No. 35473 ; the other old- fashioned^- with chased dial, makers name Roweli, Oxford. Information to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley.— Bow- street, Oct. 25. On 17th instant, a young woman, named LEAH SMITH, was assaulted and robbed of 4s. on the highway, at Ilartlebury, by a man about 27 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 ins. high, rough face, and slight dark moustache ; dressed in dark or black clothes, very greasy, and had the appearance of an engine cleaner. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hardman, Great Witley, near Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, October 25. Stolen from the person at Newmarket Races : a gold Watch; has engraved on the case ' Presented to Richard Elgie, Esq., by a few friends,' & c. ; a silver lever Watch, open face, seconds hand, the bow is loose ; a brown leather Purse, containing a £ 5 Bank of England Note, and a gun Licence for ' Bryant'; a brown leather Purse, containing a lady's diamond Ring, a garter Half- guinea, a Quarter- Guinea, with hole in centre, a 7- shiIling gold Piece, and Cheques for various small amounts o » i ' Deacons and Williams,' and the Romford Banks, in favour of W. Absconded from Maesteg, on 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with forgery and fraud : WILLIAM TKEHARNE, lite of Dauygraig House, Llwydarth- rd., Maesteg, Glamorgan, colliery proprietor, 44 yeass of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown eyes, very small pug nose, full round face dark brown hair, dark brown thick and curly whiskers - nd' moustache, whiskers all round face, short thick neck, rather short arms, stout built, walks very erect; dressed in a dark tweed overcoat, a suit of red, green, brown, and black olaid cloth, with corded edges, coat and vest double- breasted, • tnd a hard bowler hat. Description of a tramp, charged with breaking and entering the dwelling- house of William Haines, of Saltford, on 23rd instant, and stealing a silver Watch ( recovered) : he is from 20 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, slender build, very thin face, sunken cheeks, slightly pockmarked, large head, high forehead, light brown hair inclined to bo sandy, downcast look ; dress d in black bowler hat, short black jacket, fustian trousers, check shirt; carries a stick, and speaks with a Welsh accent. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol.— Bow- street, October 28. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Winton, on 21st instant: a large silver lever Watch, No. 21103, consular cases, engine- turned, small piece broke out of big pointer; a short black cloth Coat; a pair of grey mixture Trousers and Vest; a pah* of elastic- side Boots; and a pair of strong lace- up Boots. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, North Riding Constabulary, Northallerton. — Bow- street, October 25, Between 11 p. m. 21st and 6 a. m. on 22nd instant, the shop of Mr. Joseph Austin, High- street, Watford, was broken and stolen therein : about 500 yards of black Silk, various qualitity; a lady's sealskin Jacket; about a dozen silk Umbrellas, with smelling bottle handles, patterns of silk can be had, and the Umbrellas can be identified. During the night of 18th instant, the Booking Office at Redcar Railway Station, was broken and entered, and about Six Shillings in Copper Monies and the following Tickets stolen, available from Redcar to the undermentioned stations: one first- class to Kings Cross, No. 997; one second to Kings Cross, No. 850; one third to Kings Cross, No. 972 ; one first to Doncaster, No. 70 ; one second to Doncaster, No. 49 ; one third to Birmingham, Mid. No. 47 j one third to Sheffield, Mid. No. 28 - one' chird to Manchester, L. and N. W., No. 283 ; one second to Man- chester, L. and N. W., No. 145 ; one first to Manchester, L. and N. W., 104 ; one first to Liverpool, L. and N. W., via Leeds, No. 58; one third to Liverpool, L. and N. W., via Leeds, No. 112 ; one first return to York, No. 171 ; one first tourist to Scarboro', No. 55 ; and one second to Brompton, No. 13. Two stonemasons' chisels, marked ' 1. W.' and • W. 1.' and left on the premises, had been stolen from Shin- cliffe Railway Station, near Durham, during the previous night, where a similar robbery to the above had been com- mitted. Supposed by a man, 22 or 23 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small light whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, proportionate make, smart appearance, and good address ; dressed in a light grey tweed suit, white or light grey hard felt billycock hat, has a small black leather bag with him, which he sometimes ties up in a red and yellow handkerchief. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking on 29tli ultimo, from a shop in Boulton- road, Handsworth : a square black marble Time- piece, white dial, Roman figures, gold gilt figured in corners ; a rosewood or mahogang tea Caddy, with diamond- shaped ivory, & c. laid in the lid, one p.' ece of which has fallen out. Information to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwicb, or to Inspector Whitehurst, Handswoith, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 1. During the night of 25th instant the Co- operative Stores at the parish of Swinburne, Bucks, were broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of men's cloth Trousers, large size, fly fronts, narrow dark arid white stripe pattern, with black stripe down the outside seam ; a pair of men's cloth Trousers, medium size, fly fronts, small dark check pattern ; four pairs of men's cord Trousers, value about 8s. per pair ; sixteen red cotton Handkerchiefs, with white flowers, men's size, the whole joined together in one piece ; about twenty- six blue and white check bundle Handkerchiefs, the whole joined together in one piece, value about 6( 1. each : four pairs of men's Boots, two pairs of which are supposed to be spring- sides, not nailed, value about lis. 6d. per pair, one pair spring sides, value 10s. 6d., one pair supposed watertight, value 12s. 6d., and supposed nailed. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedley, Fenny Stratford, or to Sergeant Bowden, Police Court, Winslow, Bucks.— Bow- street, Oct. 30. Between 6 and 9 p. m. the 27th. instant, a dwelling- house at Coventry, was broken into, and stolen therein : an oval medium sized gold Brooch, purple stoue in centre, ( oval), has been repaired by a small plate behind to which the pin is attached ; a lady's plain gold Ring, red stone in centre, pearl each side ; a lady's gold keeper Ring, engraved, red stone in centre, has been repaired near the stone ; two or three gold Coins about the size of half- a sovereign; and £ 4 or £ a in HORSE AM © CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 20th instant, from a field at Blythe- lane, Hammersmith : 2 dark bay Ponies, one Russian Hoise, aged ; the other a Mare, 6 years old ; both 12 hands high.— Metro- politan Police, T Division, October 30. The grey mare Pony advertised in the Police Gazette of 23rd instant, as stolen from Wrexham, Denbighshire, has been recovered in Birkenhead, having been sofd there to a cab owner. Also the man, WILLIAM JONES, advertised in the same Gazette, as charged on a warrant at Wrexham with Horse stealing, has been apprehended at Bradford, Yorkshire. His proper name is GEORGE WOODV1NE, alias WILLIAM JONES, alias WILLIAM THOMAS, 29 years oi age, 5 feet 5^ inches high, black hair, sallow com- plexion, clean shaved, of gipsy appearance, and is a native of Welshampton, Salop. Supposed* to have committed offences elsewhere. He is remanded till 28th. instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- street, October 28. Stolen from a field near Stockton Race Course, Durham, during the night of 21st instant : a dark bay harness Mare, rising 4 years old, 14 hands 3 inches high, white scar on fore- head, two white hind fetlocks, black mane and tail. Supposed by some low horce dealer or other person who had been attending Yarm Fair, on the date of the robbery. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the mare and apprehension of the offender or offenders." Stolen from a field at Handsworth, on 23rd instant, the property of George Downing : eleven Sheep, seven ewes, three lambs, and one ram, one e"- e has bit cut out of right ear, one lamb has wool off back, another some off side, no pitch mark initials visible, all in good. condition except two of the ewes. Stolen from a field at Acklam, during the night of 21st instant : a bay horse Pony, 3 years old, 14 hands high, black legs, in good condition, a few white hairs in centre of fore- head, has a slight splint or lump inside of off foreleg, a little below the knee, and has been recently broke. Information to Mr. Superintendent Simpson, Constabulary Office, South Stockton, or to Inspector Silversides, Constabulary Office, North Ormesby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, October 25. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. GEORGE CANTY BROWN, a labourer, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, from the dwelling- house of James Spilman, at Messicgliam, on 2nd November, 1877, ( since recovered] : 41 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 3i ins. high, thin features, dark brown hair and whiskers which are turning grey, medium build, scar on bridge of nose ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, white or drabbet slop underneath, corduroy or fustian trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace boots; will lodge at common lodging houses or in out- houses, may endeavour to work his passage to America. In- formation to Inspector Dain, Police Station, Winterton, Brigg, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen from a stable at Bromley Mill, on 29th ultimo : a pair of man's lac-;- up Boots, patent leather facings, brass eyelet holes, and double soles, nearly new. By two tramps : one about 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, medium build, and short cut grey hair; dressed in dark moleskin jacket and trousers, close- fittiLg cap, and clogs. The other is about 47 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, slender build, and stoops when walking ; dressed in drab linen slop, dark trousers, black billycock hat, and old lace- up boots. The latter may be wearing the stolen boots. Information to Mr. Superintendent Crisp, Police Office, Stowe, or to Sergaant Dix, Police Station, Ashley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 1. The man WILLIAM TAYLOR, advertised in the Police Gazette of 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with two others with stealing 20s. and a Knife, from the person of Alfred Chalker, at Heathfield, Sussex, on 30th September last, has been apprehended and committed for trial at the next assizes for Sussex : his proper name is WILLIAM ROWLES, he belongs to Northampton, and was previously working on the railroad near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Information to Mr. Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex,— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen from a watchmaker's shop in Brighton, on 30th ultimo : an open- face very old- fashioned gold verge Watch, winds up in face ; 2 open- face silver Geneva Watches; a gold open- face Watch Case, belonging to a presentation watch, with an inscription inside to that effect. By a young man, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight figure, dark complexion, very slight dark moustache ; dressed in1 brown overcoat, and black bowler crown hat. He was assisted by two other young men about the same age, rather taller and stouter, fresh complexions, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in brown overcoats. Information to Chief Constable Barnden Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen out of a stable near East Bowton, during the night of 10th instant: a bluish grey Overcoat, two pockets outside of laps, one outside of right breast, one inside of left breast, brown velvet collar, and lined with red and black plaid woollen, about half worn. By a man, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, hair turning grey, small whiskers, slight figure, a farm or brick- layer's labourer, and a native of Huddersfield ; dressed in a soft cap, with button on top, dark grey coat, corduroy trousers, and lace- up boots ; has lost his teeth, mouth fallen in, is very much addicted to drink, generally sleeps about farm houses, has worked in Ripon, Ea3t Bowton, and district; has been a soldier, supposed 44th or 45th Regiment. Infor- mation to Mr. Superintendent Gregory, North Riding Con- stabulary, Richmond, Yorkshire, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, Scorton, Catterick.— Bow- street, October 30. Description of HANSSON HORNS, charged on a war- rant with having embezzled £ 4 5s. 6d., the Monies of his employer, Mr. Andrew Allen Hulme, farmer, Brereton- green, Chester : h- is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light sandy hair, blue or grey eyes, stoutly built, high cheek bones, long nose, clean shaved, of smart appearance, and speaks with a swedish accent; he is a native of Sweeden ; dressed in a black felt hat ( rather long and flat top), blue cloth coat, plaid trousers and vest, ai d elastic- side Kots, much worn. Previous to his engagement with the injured party, he was employed by a Mr. Taylor, proprietor of a travelling circus, as a harness cleaner. He will most likely endeavour to embark from some seaport town for his native country. Information to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 28. Description of two men charged on a warrant with feloniously stealing from the person of Alfred Chalker, the sum of 20s. and a Knife, together of the value of £ 1 0s. 9d., at Heathfield, Sussex, on 30th ultimo : . HENRY SMITH, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and small moustache, proportionate figure, late of Heathfield, Sussex, single, and is a navvy ; dressed iu fustian suit, white billycock hat, and navvy boots. RICHARD GREEN, 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, light complexion, dark hair and few whiskers, stout figure, has an impediment in his speech, late of Heathfield, Sussex, single, and is a navvy; dressed in fustian trousers and vest, and dark cvp, with peak. Information to Mr. Superintendent Waghorn, East Sussex Constabulary, Hailsham, who holds the warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 28. Description of CHARLES SPRATT, charged on warrant with another man in custody with stealing, on 17th instant, 8 bushels of Oats, and a Sack, at Hunston : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved under chin, rather bow- legged ; dressed in dark grey tweed suiJ', black hard felt hat, lace boots ; he is a hire carter or carman. Information to Mr. Superintendent Lucas, County Police, Chichester, Sussex. — Bow- street, October 28. Absconded from Crewe, on 22nd instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : ROBERT HENLEY, of Crewe, barman, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, pale complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a dark shooting coat, dark vest and trousers, elastic- side boots, and stoops when walking; a native of London, and supposed to have been in gentlemen's service there. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Nantwich, or to Inspector Plant, Crewe, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 28. Absconded from Springbourne, Hants, on 16th instant, charged on a warrant with larceny : WILLIAM SPRATT, alias JAMES GREEN, a labourer, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, rather stout figure, a native of Bramshaw, Hants, and walks stiff on right foot; dressed in dark coat, fustian vest, and cord trousers. Was seen in Winchester on 16th instant. Information to Mr. Superintendent Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Alexander, Hants Constabulary, Bourne mouth, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 25. Description of GEORGE BROWN, charged on warrant with stealing a silver Geneva Wateh, No. 71680, not recovered, on 17th instant: he is 37 years of age, dark complexion, broad face and forehead, black hair, mixed with grey, a tuft of black whiskers on each cheek, no moustache, hotel waiter.
