Wottce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. \* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it iB indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aSI tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorrns 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Description of WILLIAM BARBER, alias CAPTAIN J ONES, charged on a warrant with forgery : he is about 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, very light hair, dark blue eyes, very fair complexion, slight moustache, no • whiskers, long pointed nose, and face sun freckled, when speaking talks fast; he is very respectably dressed, and well known in Birmingham; he frequents billiard rooms, and occasionally race courses; he was seen in Eastbourne about three weeks ago, and in the neighbourhood of Brighton. In- formation to Sir. Superintendent Day, Constabulary Office, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, September 18. Charged, at Birmingham, with forging a Cheque for £ 24 18s. upon the Birmingham and Midland Bank : HEN. WILKINSON, a commission agent, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, broad set, dark brown hair and whiskers, and thick heavy moustache ; generally dressed respectably in dark clothes. He is a native of Lincolnshire. Information to Chief Constable Bond, Birmingham, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen during the Doncaster Races, on 10 th, 11th, 12th, and 13th instant : A gold hunting Watch, on one outside case an engraved crest— a cannon mounted on a gun- carriage, and motto underneath, ' Pari animo' in a garter, the other outer case quite plain, maker E. Dent & Co., 61, Strand, London, No. 33173. A gold English lever Watch, white dial, crystal glass, full plate, steel hands, No. 80054. A gold lever Watch, white dial, gold hands. A gold Watch and Chain, with Guinea attached, ( supposed lost). A silver lever Watch, white dial, black figures, No. 2473. A silver lever " Watch, white dial, a dent on back of outer case, and smooth with wearing, maker Wright, Coventry, No. 10047. A silver lever Watch, white dial, sunk seconds, engraved inside case ' Joseph Beevers, Marsden,' maker Robert Bryson, Edinburgh, No. 1272. A Watch, engraved on inner case, ' Presented to Robert Inchbold, by a few friends as a token of esteem on his leaving Brunton, Oct., 1862,' maker Aleander, Hexham. A lady's aluminium Geneva Watch, white dial, steel hands, engine- turned, garter in centre, supposed No. 11049. A gold Pin, head forms a true lover's knot in turquoise stone. ' Information to Chief Constable Gregory, Guildhall, Don- caster, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of office breaking, at Boston, during the nio- ht of 18th instant: about £ 14 in Gold, £ 2 in Silver, and in Copper. Entrance effected by getting through the of A -- inch jemmy had been used. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincolnshire. — Bow - street, September 20. Description of a man who has committed three burglaries in Somerset, two on the night of 13th and one on the night of 15th instant : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches hish dark hair, little or no whiskers, small black moustache, swarthy complexion, walks badly, and turns his right foot out • dressed in some clothes he had from the Stapleton Union, and a pair of new nailed boots, which he stole on 15th instant from Woolavington. He has been several times convicted. Information to Mr. Superintendent Jeffs, North Petherton, Somersetshire.— Bow- st) et, Sept. 20. Stolen from Badshot Lodge, Farnham, by means of house- breaking, on 7th instant: a black cloth Coat, only one button at top ; a blue ribbed serge Vest; a pair of do. Trousers ; a pair of lac^- up Boots, tip off the heel of right one, and bulge inside left one, caused by a fractured ankle ; a black and white satin Necktie, and a check shirt. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair, slight moustache, and military appearance ; dressed in stolen clothes. Information to the Police Station, Farnham, Surrey.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen on 13th instant, from Old- park, Enfield : four oval Dishes, crest— hand, dagger, and large ' R.', four Decanter Stands, lattice pattern, an oval Tea Caddy, flutes at sides, four tall Candle Sticks, two small ditto, a pair Snufl'ers a Tray, a Pen Tray, two sets Castor Frames, two rou Waiters, and a Taper Stand, all silver ; four silver gilt Gob- lets ; a gold Watch Case, with enamel, girl with dove in her hand thereon ; a gold Snuff Box ; an old chatelaine Ch ain, blue and white beads and small square stones ; two gold filigree Cups; a gold mounted molacca Cane; and a black macintosh Coat. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, Whitehall, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, A Division, September 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 7 and 8 p. m. on 14tli instant, at Adderley, Salop : a black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips, without flaps ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly fronts ; a pair of green woollen Stockings, men's size ; the property of Henry Fernley. By a man, 20 to 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, no whiskers; dressed in blue pilot jacket, corduroy trousers recently washed, strong lace- up boots, and soft black tommy hat; has the appearance of a mason or bricklayer. Information to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Galliers, Police Station, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, Sept. 18. Stolen between 11* 30 p. m. 13th and 4 a. m. on 14th inst., from the shop of Mr. William Allf » ort, boot and shoemaker, Soho- road, Handsworth : several pairs of men's and women's Boots, various sizes, all new, and the price marked in pencil on bottoms of most of them. Entrance effected by taking down the shutters. Information to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, Staffordshire Constabulary, West Bromwich. — Bow- street, September 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at West Pi ckham, Kent, between 6* 30 a. m. and 7 p. m. on 10th instant: 2 black diagonal cloth Coats and Vests to match; 2 pairs grey plaid Trousers; 2 Shirts, one white, the other blue with white stripes ; a pair of women's side- spring boots, levant kid, size 4; a white silk pocket handkerchief with flowers; a Turkey Towel, ' A. Pomfret' markedjjon corner; a woollen Shawl with fringe same colour and black border ; a piece of coarse Wrapper, marked Curl and Bunting ; a pair of cord Trousers ; 2 double- breasted moleskin Vest; a grey single- breasted doeskin sleeve Vest, all new; a pair of light lace- up Shoes with toecaps, nearly new, 7 size ; a grey Suit; a pair of black cloth Trousers and Vest to fit a boy 12 years of age. At the same time the house of Robert Howe, which is close by, was broken into and stolen therein : 12 yards of black Coburg, a new black scarf Shawl, a pair of light grey Trousers, a childs plaid Frock, and a pair of baby's Shoes. Supposed by an Italian or German, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair; dressed in black cloth coat, light grey plaid trousers, white neckerchief, ani light lace- up boots, being a portion of the stolen articles, and a white straw hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hulse, Kent Constabulary, Police Station, West Mailing.— Bow- street, September 16. During the night of 6tli, or morning of 7th instant, three shops at Dumbarton, were entered by means of false keys, and stolen therein : A pair of man's elastic- sided Boots, with block fronts, size 9. A pair of man's elastic- side goloshed Boots, size 7. A pair of man's elastic- side goloshed Boots, size 6. Two pairs of men's elastic- side Boots, with kid legs and toe- caps, ' Euknemida' patented soles, stamped with a blood hound's head, in a double circle in centre of sole. Two odd Gaiters, one light drab colour, the other dark brown. A Shilling; a Sixpence ; a Threepenny Piece; and about twenty- eight Shillings in Copper or Bronze Coin. A Bottle, labelled ' J. & F. Martell's Best Old Brandy,' about three- quarters full. Two square Bottles, containing Irish Whiskey, and labelled ' Henry Thomson, Newry, Ireland. A black leather tobacco Pouch, with iron rim and brass knobs. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cumming, Dumbarton. — Bow- street, September 16. Mr. John Stokes, farmer : a thorough- bred Welsh mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, in good condition, dark colour, white streak down face, grey muzzle, several white hairs on neck and head, hind fetlocks white to a little above the joints, rough mane with part of it plaited, square bushy tail, marked on one ear, and has a scar on near side of tongue. Information to Inspector Taylor, Lindsey Police Station, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, September 20. About 2 p. m. on 17th instant, a black Gelding, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, four white spots under saddle, a few white hairs on forehead, and had on an old rope for halter, was left at a public- house at Hamptou, near Malpas, by a man, who said his name was WALKER, and that he came from near Crewe. He offered to sell the horse for twenty guineas, and lowered him to ten pounds, and left word that he must be sold at the next auction to be held at Hampton, near Malpas, on 24th instant, and that he would call some day for the money. He is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, thin sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black clothes, white shirt, with three studs down front, and black hard hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Tattenhall, or to Sergeant Bethell, Malpas, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen from Pontefract Park, on the night of 11th inst. : a dark chesnut Russian Horse Pony, 7 years old, 14 hands high, short tail, long mane, which may be cut shorter, small white mark on back, and has recently had a small sore on one side of its neck. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fernside, Town Hall, Pontefract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 20. Stolen from jjBow- road, Hackney, on 17tli instant: a roan Mare, 14£ hands high, brass mounted Harness (' A. E.'), and a builder's spring Cart, painted white with red wheels, ' Ewen and Sons, 25, Columbia- road, Hackney - road,' on shaft.-- Metropolitan Police, K Division, September 20. Fouhd at Rodington, near Wellington^ on 6th. instant: a yearling Bullock, red coloured, with mottle face white on the forehead, and a little white on both hips. Information to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen from Seven Sisters- road, Holloway, on 16th inst. r a black Pony, 13 hands high, chipped knees, star on forehead, off hind jfoot white, and box Cart, painted dark green, picked out light, ' John Pelston, 104, Upper North- street, Poplar,' on off shaft.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, Sept. 20. Stolen on 16th instant, from a field in Sandbach : a half bred black Horse, 5 years old, has a small white star on the forehead, and has recently been blistered on both forelegs. £ 5 reward will be paid by M. Edward Lea the owner, to any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the Horse, and the conviction of the thief or , thieves. In- formation to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 18. Stolen from a field by the side of the Derby Turnpike- road, at Thorpe Acre, during the night of 10th instant: a light bay cart Horse, aged, about 15 hands high, black mane and tail, which has the hair very much rubbed off, white blaze down the face, both hind feet white, scar on outside of near hind foot, in very good condition, the property of Louise Bradshaw, Loughborough. It was seen at mid- day lltli inst., at East Leake, Nottinghamshire, in possession of a man, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown, whiskers, no moustache, proportionate make, and has the appearance of a gipsy; dressed in brown sleeved waistcoat, tight fitting cord trousers, and cloth cap. YThoever will give such information to Mr. Superintendent Peberdy, at Lough- borough, Leicestershire, as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the horse, shall receive £ 3 reward.— Bow- street, September 16. Stolen from a meadow at Wrotham, Kent, on 3rd instant, a dark brown gelding Cob with black legs, handsome, in good condition, has a small white saddle mark, aged, about 11 or 12 hands high, rather weak on near foreleg, scar rather high upon the near hind leg. Also stolen from a meadow at Ryarsh Mill, near Mailing, Kent, between 11th and 12th inst., a red and white short horn Irish Heifer, about 18 months old. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hulse, Kent Constabulary, Police Station, West Mailing.— Bow- street, September 16. Supposed stolen at West Wratting, during the night of 5th instant : a light coloured mare Donkey, 15 years old, has a slight swelling on the right side of forehoof, both fore legs sore, long tail, and has been recently shod all round. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Long, Police Station, Linton, Cambs.— Bow- street, Sept. IS. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Milford Haven, on the night of 15th instant: a bay Pony, 8 years old, 12 to 13 hands high, white streak on forehead, switch tail, rather short, shod all round, strong mane, in good condition. The pony was sold in the fair at Maenelachog, by DANIEL OWEN, who has been remanded till 21st instant. The pdny has not been recovered. Information to the County Chief Constable, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Supposed stolen between 9 p. m. on 13th and 3 a. m. on 14th instant, from a yard at Spindlington; the property of LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with stealing two Books and a Shawl at Whitechurch- in- Dewsland, Pembroke: LOUISA SMITH, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, sallow com- plexion, light hair, and rather stout figure ; dressed in black hat, brown dress, trimmed with stripes of a green material about 2 or 3 inches wide with white edges, or may be wearing a green dress, clothes and boots all much worn, and supposed to be wearing gold Brooch and Ear- rings. She takes lodgings at hotels, representing herself to be a stewardess oil board some large steamer, or a lady travelling for her own amusement, and states that her luggage will arrive in a day 8 P O L I C E GAZETTE. September 13 or two, and then, after staying as long as she can, decamps without paying her bill. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Jones, Fishguard, or to Sergeant Griffiths, Solva, Pembrokeshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension. — Bow- street, September 20. f" Charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Table and Bed Linen, from an hotel at Newcastle- on- Tyne, during the last 6 months : ROBERT SHORT, alias COCKNEY BOB, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pale complexion, thin face, sharp nose, small dark whiskers and moustache ; dressed in old black cloth suit. WILLIAM SHORT, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, thin face, slender build, no whiskers ; dressed in dark suit of clothes, and black felt hat. Both frequent low public- houses and brothels, playing the pianoforte. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, Sept. 20. Stolen from a coach- house at Clifton, near York, during the night of 11th instant: an India- rubber Apron ( recovered): By a man about, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, pro portionate build ; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, dark mixture cloth trousers, black hard felt hat, white collar, and blue tie ; is supposed to belong to the neighbourhood of Leeds. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hunter, North Riding Constabulary, He worth, Yorkshire. — Bow - street, September 18. THOMAS KENNETT, who stole the Watch, No. 5801, from Denthill, on 30th July, and advertised in Police Gazette of 7th and 28th ultimo, is still at large, and is sup- posed to be in the neighbourhood of Kidderminster, Worces- tershire, enquiring for work. Information to Mr. Superin- tendent Christie, Bridgnorth, or to P. C. Merricks, Burford, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen on the morning of 15th instant, from a lodging- house at Howden : a pair of strong lace- up Boots with bellows and a tongue, small holes worn in the bellows, newly soled and welted, and the sewing shows more round the toe of right boot, strong nails on soles and heels. By an Irish harvester, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin smock face with scars en it; dressed in drab smock, drab cord ( ragged) trousers, black cap, and the stolen boots. He may be accompanied by a female. Information to Inspector Burniston, East Riding Constabulary, Howden.— Bow- bcnot, Sept. 18. Stolen on 15th instant, about 6 a. m., from a common lodging- house at Whitby, the property of Robert Gra£ and another : 15s. in Silver and a pair of elastic- side Boots, with strong soles and fancy toe- caps. By a man, between 30 and 40 years of a^ e, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, long ginger moustache, no whiskers, rather round shoulders, and proportionate build ; dressed in black cloth coat, rather long and greasy, dirty moleskin trousers, red muffler, dark cloth sap, and stolen boots. Supposed to be a labourer, and may seek employment amongst farmers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby. — Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from a- lodging- house at Henley- on- Thafees, on the morning of 14th instant: a light brown check morning Coat, with two pockets behind, one breast, and ticket pocket, three buttons ( chestnut pattern) on the front ; a pair of grey Trousers, without pockets, and a light check Yest. By a man, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, and has lost part of fore finger right hand ; dressed in the stolen property, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Superintendent Coates, Police Station, Henly- on- Tham. es, Oxfordshire.— Bow- street, September 18. Absconded from Birmingham on 6th instant, charged under a warrant with stealing £ 100, the moneys of the No. 5 Lodge of the United Brothers Friendly Society: HENRY BENNETT, a silversmith, and secretary to the Society ; he is about 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, black hair and whiskers, rather stoutly built, and high fore- head ; dressed, when he left, in dark clothes and high silk hat. It is strongly suspected he will endeavour to emigrate. Information to Chief Constable Bond, Birmingham.— Bow- street, September 16. FELONIES. ( Wot otherwise described.) Charged with beasstiality, in Crewe, on 15th instant : a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, full face, no whiskers ; dressed in dark cloth monkey jacket, a pair of washed moleskin trousers, and hard black billycock hat; had the appearance of a tramp. Information to Mr. Superinten- dent Cooper, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, September 18. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded on 14th instant, charged with obtaining 12s. by false pretences from John Wildgoose, at Cromford : JAMES ELSE, 21 years of age, light hair, small moustache, light complexion, small featured, grey eyes, lame on left foot, toes turn up, in walking he treads on the toes, his heel not touching the ground. He is a lead miner, but may apply for work at stone quarries or railway works. Information to Mr. Superintende t Sliarpe, Police Station, Wirksworth, Derby; h re, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street,- September 20. Absconded from Tividale, Staffordshire, charged with an indecent assault : SILAS SHELDON, 46 years of age, 6 feet high, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, slender build, shaves his face, fair moustache, swinging gait, and when walking slow c- irries his hands behind him under his coat; dressed in clotli cap, short pilot jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, and strong lace- up boots. He is a pnddler. Informa- tion to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, Brierley Hill, or to Sergeant Cooper, Blackheath, near Dudley, who holds a • warrant for his apprehension.— Sow- street, September 16. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home at Chilton, Berks, since 11 a. m. on 16th instant: CALEB WOODLEY, an inn keeper, wheelwright and carpenter, about 56 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, grey hair, small grey whiskers under the chin, stout make, and muscular ; dressed in a grey cloth coat, grey cloth waistcoat, with sleeves, brown corduroy trousers, with a rule pocket at the side, and rule, blue and white cotton check necktie, white cotton shirt, soft black hat, and strong lace- up boots. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to Mr. Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.— Bow- street, September 20. Description of JAMES POWELL, in custody, at Chep- stow, Monmouthshire, and remanded until 26th instant, charged with larceny : 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionate figure, grey eyes, light brown hair, brown whiskers and moustache, inclined to sandy, a native of Chepstow, but has been away from there for many years, and is a smith ; dressed in a brown coat with velvet collar, grey waistcoat, dirty moleskin trousers, black bowler hat, and very old lace- up boots Has ' LP.' tattooed on back of left hand. Stated that he had worked at Woolwich, London, and Ply- mouth Dockyards, also worked at Cardiff, where his mother lives. Information at the Chief Constable's Office, Aberga- venny, to Captain 3erthon, Usk, or to Inspector Ward, Chepstow, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Remanded to Stafford Gaol, till 23rd instant, charged with larceny : J OHN JONES, miner or blacksmith, 29 yrs. of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, broad shoulders, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, long uose, and two scars on forehead; he is a native of Portobello, near Bilston, but has resided at Ironbridge and Old Park, Salop, and at Blackwell, near South Normanton, Derbyshire. Information to Mr. Super- intendent Hill, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- street, September 20. Committed to Hereford Gaol, for 1 month, for obtaining charitable contributions under false representations : WILLIAM THOMAS McDONALD, sailmaker, native of America, 19 years of age, 5 feet li inch high, fresh complexion, medium stature, brown eyes, light hair. Information to Head Constable Davis, Hereford.— Bow- street, September 20.
