Charged with forgery, at Chester, by altering a post- office order from Is. 6d. to £ 4 Is. 6d., with intent to defraud: EDWARD ROBETTS, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9h inches high, sandy hair, fair complexion, last known residence, • Liverpool, formerly a clerk, and lately employed by the Pacific Steam Company, Birkenhead ; he is a native of and his wife and family reside at Mold, Flintshire ; dressed in a suit of grey tweed, and soft tweed wide- awake hat; has lost one or two upper front teeth. Description of EDWARD VILLIERS, who is charged • with obtaining £ 10, by means of a forged Cheque, on the 3rd instant : 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair and moustache, blue eyes, and scars on back of neck ; dressed in black coat, grey trousers, and black deerstalker hat. He is a deserter from 20th Hussars. Infor- and 2 quartern Bottles of Spirits stolen therein. Between 8 p. m. on the 22nd, and 7 a. m. on the 24th instant, the office at the Cannock Chase Foundry, Hednesford, was broken into, and £ 12 3s. 6d. in Gold and Silver; a small pink cash Bag, bearing the words ' District Bank, Cannock,' containing 4s. in new Bronze Coins ; the propeity of Frederick Bradley and Co., were stolen therein. Between 12 p. m. on the 19th and 6 a. m. on the 20th inst. twe dwelling- house of William Medlicott, grocer, Talgarth, was burglariously entered and stolen therefrom : two small Money Boxes, the one bearing the inscription ' Wesleyan Missionary Box,' containing 3s. 4d., the other plain, coat/ iin- ing 3d.; also two small blue Books, one entitled ' Lessons from Noble Life,' other ' Cassy,' 1 William Medlicott' written on title- p » ge of each book. Stolen during the night of the 15th instant, from a field in Trent- lane, Sneinton, Nottingham : a very dark brown dappled half- bred carriage Horse, aged, about 16 bands high, fore feet slightly turned in, and a splint on one fore leg. £ 5 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the recovery of the Horse and conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Superintendent Palethorpe, County Police Station, or to Messrs. Absconded from Nottingham, on the 24th instant, charged with embezzlement: ADOLPHUS STEVONS, late clerk in the Nottingham Borough Police Force, 34 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, rather long neck, walks very erect, proportionate make, slight impedi- ment in his speech when excited, and blinks his eyes when talking. He is a native of Hamburg, speaks with a German accent, and walks quickly ; dressed in dark frock coat and light trousers, and generally wears a high hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, July 28. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from a dwelling- house, in Preston : a leather ' Purse, containing £ 3 10s. in Gold and 7s. 6d. in Silver. By a woman, a lodger, about 21 years of age, very listle and pregnaut; she calls herself Mrs. Hamilton, and is an actress. Farther information respecting the horse described i. u the Police Gazette of the 19th instant, as supposed to have been stolen from a field at Stafford : it is supposed to have been taken away by a man who tramps about the country, a labourer, and a native of Derbyshire or Shropshire, about 47 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair, bald on ton of head, long features, medium build, shaves all round, and has a rough voice; dressed in white straw hat, with black ribbon, black second- hand jacket and vest, new dark plaid trousers, and strong lace- up boots. H.' on the am on the 23rd instant, the house of Mr. John Dover, the horn ; also D Lambs, not shorn, and marked ' J. H.' on each Railway Tavern, Princes Risborough, was broken into, and: side. They were very fat and are supposed to have been in Gold, Silver and Copper Monevs ; 1 Box of Cigars slaughtered and seat with the skins to the London Market. ! Messrs. Mather, Cockroft and Mather, solicitors, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, who is charged on a warrant with stealing £ 60, the monies of hia said employers, on the 21st instant : ARTHUR SEPPINGS, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 0 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, dark whiskers and: moustache, face pockpitted, supposed to be a native of London; dressed in blue shooting coat, dark tweed vest, brown Cloth trousers, high silk hat, and lace- up boots; he is believed to be known at York and Middlesborough. Abrconded from Middlesbrough, charged with stealing a silver Watch ( recovered)-: ARTHUR KING, alias SMITH, alias WILSON, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers, just beginning to grow, small moustache, and slender figure ; he is a native of Stockton- on- Tees, and a labourer ; dressed in a white jacket, light cloth trousers, black billycock hat, and red and black tie. He has been in the Militia and will probably enlist in the army. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Middlesborough, charged with stealing £ 10 : a German, shoemaker, but has lately worked with pork butchers as a sausage maker, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, cut short, and slender figuie ; dressed in a short brown jacket, bound with green braid, body hat, or a black alpaca cap, high in the crown ; he had with him a black leather bag. Absconded from Queen- street, Railway Station, Exeter, on the 12th July, 1876, charged with embezzling £ 55 ; the property of the London and South Western Railway Com- pany : " FRANCIS REEKS, chief booking clerk, about 26 • years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, whiskers and moustache, and shaved under the chin ; dressed in light clothes and straw hat. He is a native of Lymington, Hants, 28 POLICE GAZETTE. June 16 and waB formerly a booking clerk at Dorchester and Andover. Charged with embezzlement: SAMUEL LINLEY, a brewer's traveller, a native of Sheffield, 35 years of age, 5 ft. 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair, cat short, sandy moustache, slight sandy whiskers,' finger nails cut very short; has served in the 12t'n Lancers ; he is accompanied by a young woman, about 21 years of age, medium build, fresh complexion, and dressed in black. Information to be given at the Central Police Office, Sheffield. — Bow- street, July 26. " Further description of the tramping painter, charged with stealing a gold Watch from Ingress Abbey, Greenhithe, advertised in Police Gazette of the 19ch instant. The Watch has been found pawned at Gravesend, and the ticket was found in the King William public- house, Dover, on the 19th instant, where another larceny has been committed by the same man ; he is from 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very little whiskers and is deaf ; dressed in painter's light suit, and light felt hat; a tattooed tomb- stone on one arm, and ship and flags en the other. States that he is a pensioner. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, July 26. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement, at Ports- mouth, on the 3rd and 4th instant: WILLIAM HENRY HARNETT, .36 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches high, slender thin sharp features, small crooked nose, sallow complexion, slightly round shouldered, email whiskers, and dark hair, he speaks sharply, is very nervous, and holds hi3 chin up ; dressed in dark grey suit, and deerstalker hat. Information to given to Superintendent Hoskison, Waterloo Railway Station, London.— Boie- streei, July 26. Stolen about 8.30 a. m. on the 24th instant, from a dwelling- house in Stockport: a Paisley Shawl ( new); a tartan Scotch plaid Shawl ( new); two pairs of women's elastic side Boots ( rivetted) ; a woman's Neckerchief, orange, red, brown and black; four calico Chemises ( new); three grey holland Aprons ( uew) ; a woman's flannel Petticoat ( new) ; a puce Dress with black lustre flounce ; a light printed Skirt ( nearly new); a striped green woollen Skirt ( puce, red and orange); a blue and black Bonnet; a large Basket ; and 5s. Od. in Money. By a young woman who had been lodging in the house a week, about 5 feet 1 inch high, dark cumplexion, thick lips, dark brown hair, and stout build. Description of JOHN LANE, a carpenter and native of St. Alban'a, charged with stealing on the 8th instant from the slaughter- house of Mrs. Smith, butcher, of High- street, St. Alban's, 17 lbs. of Beef ( tecovered): 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, full face, dark brown hair and moustache, no whiskers, and Btout built; diessed in dark clothes, and black hard felt hat. He was last heard of near Leighton Buzzard, and is supposed to have gone to Fenny Stratford. Information to be given to the Head Constable, St. Alban's, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 24. Absconded on the 18th instant, from No. 29, Upper Gloucester- place, Marylebone, embezzling £ 15 : a man, 25 yeirs of age, 5 feet high, slight moustache, and dark ; dressed in a white blouse, dark trousers, and black cap ; he is a porter.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, July 24. Absconded on the 20th instant, from No. 28, Gt. Sutton- street, Clerkenwell, embezzling £ 7 Cs. 6d. : a youth, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and dark ; dressed in black coat, tweed vest and trousers, and blaek felt hat; he is a porter. A.'; five Chemises, three ' Amelia M. A.' in iuk, J two ' M. Aldridge'; two pairs of ladies Boots, one side- spring ( nearly new), one new Oxonian ; a pair of white Stays, embroidered white satin ; three ostrich Feathers, two black, one light blue ; a brown morocco lady's Companion ; a black Portmanteau, light straos, trimmed with white, about 30 in. by 18 in., 12 in. deep. By a woman, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, blu. ® eyes, slightly pitted with small pox, good looking ; supposed dressed in part of the stolen property.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 24. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, charged with stealing on the 14th instant, four pairs of Boots, one pair men's elastic- sides, one pair button ditto, one pair lady's button ditto, and one pair lady's side- spring ditto, and the Material for repairing the same. HENRY WILSON, a shoemaker, about 46 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, blind of left eye, fair complexion, moustache, and lisjht bushy whiskers ; dressed in black coat and trousers. Description of a man who obtained £ 2 from Mr, Henry Richards, at Belgrave, near Leicester, on the 17th ultimo, by giving him an order on behalf of Messrs. Brassey and Harrison, contractors, for a number of waggon wheels, and so obtained the £ 2, and afterwards absconded, his statements being untrue: he gave the name of JOHN YARWOOD, but his real name is JOHN HOGG, is 6 feet oj inch high, 50 years of age, hair and whiskers turning grey, brown eyes, cut on left side of upper lip, florid complexion, talks fluently and quick, and has a very respectable appearance ; generally dresses in a grey suit, and carries an overcoat, travelling rug, and caipst bag, and frequets first class hotels. He was con- victed of a similar offence at Ludlow, and sentenced to two years imprisonment, and has only been out of prison a few months. He was also convicted of a similar offence at Manchester in the name of Stevenson seven or eight years ago, and sentenced to five years penal1 servitude, He MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS.
