Notice— It i8 requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed ofcenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE maybe maae and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, fW. C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 12 p. m. on 9th instant, two men were met by Police Constables Thomas Child, and Joseph Seats, at Quedgley, near Gloucester, when they lired at the Constables with revolvers, wounding the latter in the left knee : one, 34 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout build, dark heavy whiskers • and moustache, dark complexion; dressed in a blue monkey jacket, dark trousers and a black soft bowler hat with a gold albert chain suspended across the waistcoat; the other, 26 or 28 jears of age, 5 ft. 10 ins. high, proportionately make, rather fair complexion, no whiskers, thick dark moustache ; dressed in a blue suit, and had the appearance of a seafaring . man. It is believed these men were loitering about for the purpose of committing burglaries. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Gloucester.-- Box- street, May 15. FORGERY. Absconded, charged on Sheriff's warrant, with forgery and theft: GEORGE LEISHMAN, an engine- fitter or mechanic, a native of Kirkcaldy, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion and hair, dark brown moustache, and both legs ulcerated in front; dressed, - when last seen on 14th instant, in a dark felt hat, dark blue cloth walking coat, dark trousers and vest, and American shoes, much worn. He also stole about the same time a savings bank Deposit Book, and drew out of the bank .£ 10 ; he also stole a silver Geneva Watch, No. 17601, white dial, sunk centre, black chapters, and carved eases. Was in pos- session of a 4- chambered breech- loading revolver, and case of ammunition to suit, and was using tlio same rather indiscri- minately. Information to be given to Procurator- Fiscal Dunbar, Dundee, or to Mr. Superintendent Dewar, Central Police Chambers, Dundee.— Bow- street, May 20. ROBBERY AND larceny FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person whilst attending the Hiring Fair « t Church Stretton, Salop, on the evening of 14th instant: 18 £ o Notes, viz., one of Rocke, Eytou and Co., Salop Old Bank two Bank of England, and the remainder of the South Wales Bank; 1 Counterfeit Bank of England Note ; also i* 40 in Gold. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Caswell, Church Stretton, S. alop - Bow- street, May 17. Description of ROBERT ROBSON, a Militiaman, who absconded from Richmond, charged on a warrant with stealing from the person of Thomas Pickard i- TO 1<) b. in Gold, on 12th instant: he is 27 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair ; dressed in militia suit and militia boots ; life is supposed to belong to Hull, and has lived at Scarborough and other places in the North of England. Information to be given to Head Constable Canifield, Borough Police Office, Richmond, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 15. Stolen from the person, at Willington, on 11th instaut : silver lever Watch, No. 524G, maker William Burnett, Durham, cream- coloured dial, with a crack across it, had a brass Albert, snake pattern, attached ; a steel obacco Box, Sta Silver, and a white Handkerchief with black border. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunn, Count Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow street, May lo. large black bag or dressing- case and a dark lantern ( an ordi- nary reading lamp) with wax candle. There is missius- from the house a duplicate Key of the iron safe, No. 146773 TI, and a large iron Key of the wine cellar ( both keys were in the despatch box) and same Penny and Sixpenny Postage Stamps. The burglary was- effected by three men," who can be iden- tified : First— from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair cut very short, no whiskers or moustache, and pimpled face ; dressed in a mixture cloth suit, between grey and yellow, hard round black hat, and laoe- up boots. This man was in the habit of rolling up tobacco as cigarettes, he was also suffering from a corn. Second— from 20 to 23 years of age. 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light brown hair, slight saudy whiskers and moustache, fair complexion, and good- looking ; dressed in black ribbed cloth suit, low shoes, and hard round black hat. Third— about 20 or 21 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, dark hair and complexion, long features and high check bones ; dressed in dark cloth ribbed coat, dark cloth trousers and vest, low shoes, and hard round black hat. One of the two younger men had buttons on his shoes and wore striped socks. They all three spoke a good deal about racing matters, and appeared to know both London and Birmingham. A small half- round black boot button with shank was found in the room were the burglars were. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holloway, Constabulary Office, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, on 16th instaut, from the dwelling- house of Reese Jones, Pentre hayling, near Churchstoke : a man's suit of Clothes, the jacket and vest are dark tweed, and the trousers are grey striped, rather large stripe ; also a pair of elastic- side Boots, which aie recovered. By a man having the appearance of a tramping farm labourer, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, between 30 and 40 years of age, dark whiskers, and fresh complexion ; dressed in hard felt hat, dark jacket and ve3t, and dirty cord trousers. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Howells, Shrewsbury, or to Acting Sergeant Langford, Minsterley, Salop.— Bow street, May 20. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m. I4th and 5 a. m. oil 15th instant, from the dwelling- house of Joseph G. Marriage, Bletchingley, Surrey : a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' M. H.;' an electro- plated Cruet Stand and Mustard Pot; an electro- plated Cup, about 18 inches high, engraved thereon ' Presented by Alderman Lambert to Messrs. J. G. Marriage and Son, for the best Pen of fat Sheep in Redhill Market, 1872.' ; Also stolen by means of burglary between 11 p. m. 10th and 7 am. on 17th instant, from the dwelling- house of Andrew Ure Mackinley, Nutfield, Surrey : a silver Casket, in shape of a trough, oval top, stands on four legs ; a small silver Spoon, French pattern ; three Thimbles, one gold, one silver, one plated. Stolon by means of breaking into a shoemaker's shop at Marton. during the night of 15th instant : four pairs of new Boots, one pair man's size, No. 8, sole;-! nailed with round headed nails, and the heels with square headed nails, one pair youth's size, No. 4, made similar to the man's, and two pairs of children's elastic sided, size Nos. 7 and S. The thieves were disturbed by a dog, and decamped, leaving behind them a whiskers, and beard, inclined to be ginger, about 3 w'eeks growth, has an anchor tattooed on left arm ; dressed in an old blue pilot jacket, dirty cord trousers, and a worsted cap, with knob at top. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Veitch, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. — Bow- street, May £ 0. Stolen on 17th instant, by means of burglary, from the residence of Colonel Greaves, of Datchet, Bucks : 3 Salt Cellars, 2 Sugar Basins, 1 Tea Caddy, 0 Dessert Forks, 1 pair of Sugar Tongs, all silver, crest— an eagle; 12 Spoons, six large, six small, 12 Forks, six large, six small, all silver, crest — bird, and broad arrow in hand ; 1 silver Pepper Box, in shape of an owl, marked ' W. C. C. to G. R. G.'; 24 plated Spoons ; 24 plated Forks ; 1 Mustard Pot, with silver top ; and a small carriage Clock, makers Negretta and Zambra. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Sutton, Iver, Buck.- s.— Bow- street, Jfo/ 20. Stolen by means of burglary at Stalybridge, between 2 and 5 a. m. on 13th instant : a pair of blucher Boots, nearly new, the right boot cut over the toes ; aud a rosewood Work- box, 18 inches by 12, bound with gilt straps, and a white metal name plate on the top, lined with white silk inside the lid, and blue silk inside the other part of the box, containing one gold and one silver Thimble, a small pair of Scissors, and a number of reels of Thread. Entrance effected by cutting piece of black cloth tied on to keep it on the foot, the back part having been cut away, which appear to have belonged to a regular tramp, aud a man about the middle size. Informa- tionto be given to the Chief Constable, Stalybridge.— Bow street, May 17. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a paddock at Denaway, Sapperton, during the night of 11th or morning of 12th iiistapt : two Horses- one a brown Mare, very aged, 15 or 16 hands high, near hind foot white, a spavin in off hind leg, and goes a little lame, large ragged tail and mane, has some hair knocked off her hips, and has a small cut over one eye ; the property of John Gleet}, of Chalford, boatman. The other a light bay Cob, aged, from 13 to 14 hands high, touched in the wind, hind and one fore legs white, white mark in forehead, white saddle marks 011 back, a small quantity of white hair 011 top of tail, off shoulder has recently been galled ; the property of the Thames and Severn Canal Co., Stroud. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horses. Stolen from Manea, in the Isle of Ely, during the night of 18th instant : a light coloured marc Donkey, about 7 years old, has rather short ears, long tail, turns all its feet outward*, and had no shoes 011. Stolen from Steeraway r Wellington, during the night qi 18th instant: a Welsh Bull, strawberry colour, a Welsh Bullock, about 1 year and 9 mont ji. s old, both pitch marked'( I)' 011 right hip; the property of the Steeraway Lime Company. Also stolen at the same time, the property of Mr. James Fryer, from his premises in the parish of West Wycombe : a light made Dog Cart, black body, brown wheels and shafts, picked, out with red, patent leather wings, the near wing heing grazed by occasionally coming in contact with the wheel, three Cushions covered with blue cloth, aud out driving - do., covered with black cloth, plain leather Apron, lined with blue serge. ' Supposed by two men of the following description : one about 37 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout m. v'e, brown hair, slight sandy whiskers, fresh complexion, and fujl face ; dressed in high felt hat, dark suit, and had a light coloured macintosh coat tied up, which he carried. The oilier ' about 37 years of age, about 0 feet 8 iuehes high, mediufii build, dark hair and complexion, . slight dark mous- tache, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket aud vest, dark cord trousers, aud hard billycock hat. .£ 20 reward will be paid 011 the apprehension and conviction of the offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the' amount recovered. Stolen during tlie night of 10th instant, at Sunningdale ; the property of Alfred Thomas Longhurst: a l ed roan maro Pony, aged, 12 hands high; a light Spring Cart, chocolate colour,, bare of paint, the name of ' Longhurst' partly dis- cernible 011 right shaft ; a set of Harness, brass mounted, to lit the. Pony ; three sides of American Bacon, two with the hams oft'; two Bladders of Lard; two Boxes of Raisins ; ; » double- edged Chopper; a set of Shoe Brushes; a Clipping Machine,' marked ' K. A.' ; three Horse Rugs, one spotted inside; and 15 Bars of Loaf Sugar, weighing about 4 cwt. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Blake, Berk* Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- st., May 2<>. Stolen from a field at Walsall, during the night of 14th instant: a dark brown horse Colt, three years old, feet and face white, a white spot behind near foreleg, and 15 hands high. Information to be given to Chief Constable cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Boiv- stre& j, May 17. Stolen on 11th instant, from Birmingham : a. dark mouse- coloured Pony, 5 years old. 12 hands 2 inches high, branded 011 near side with letter ' D,' wearing brass and electro- plated Harness, attached to a low Whitechapel Trap, painted dark colour outside and white inside, containing two black leather Cushions, a gig Whip, loose Foot- board, a waterproof Apron, which was torn, aud a thick Rug, striped inside, and black on the other side. £•> reward will be paid by tho owners, Messrs. Supposed stolen from Tong Castle, near Shifnal, Salop, on the night of 6th instant : two Ponies, one small biack Mare, 0 years old, 13 hands 2 inches high, and very heavy in foal; the other a racing Mare, 14 hands high, aged, no shoes 011 fore feet, scar 011 top of head with. 110 hair 011 it, ami a nip out of her left ear. Absconded, 18th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement : FREDERICK HYDE, 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in mixture tweed suit, bone buttons, and deerstalker hat; parents reside at No. 7, Clarendon- square, Somers Town. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jury, E. C.— Bow- st., May 24. Stolen on 17th instant, from the ' Plough' beershop, Fletching, Sussex, a dark tweed Jacket ( boys size), pockets at sides, and one inside the right breast, not much worn, and a cotton Handkerchief, white ground and red spots. Supposed by a man from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, stout built, walks very cripplish, a stone mason by trade, aud supposed a native of Brighton ; dressed in a dark coat and dark trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, or to Police Constable Geer, Fletching, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen from a lodging- house at Llanidloes, on 21st inst., by a tramp who lodged in the house the previous night : a pair of lace- up Boots, nailed a diamond pattern, tips under the heels ; a pair of old brown woollen Stockings, and left his own behind. He is about 22 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 inches high, light complexion, round face, pock- marked, stout build ; dressed in dark clothes and brown cap. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Danby, Newtown, or to Sergeant Sibbald, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 24. Absconded from Maryhill, near Glassy, charged with theft of £ 60 : No. 2086, Sergeant WILLIAM ELLIS, 2nd Brigade of Boval Artillery, Maryhill Barracks, Glasgow, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, full face, scars on right side of head from cut, grey eyes, a few black warts on face, slight fair moustache, no whiskers, hair scanty on top of head, dark brown hair, first joint of forefinger right hand bent and stiff, three teeth rotten, in front of upper jaw, and born at Glardegar, County Carnarvon, Wales. He left Granton, Edinburgh, with steamboat for London, on 18th instant, at 3 p. m., where he has some friends ; and was then dressed in his' uni- form of the corps. Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Anderson, Maryhill, Glasgow.— Bow- st., May 24. Stolen from Church House, Windsor, on 21st or 22nd instant : a silver Inkstand, about 15 inches by 8, stands on four claws, and has two holes for bottles, and a place on each side for pens, etc, has an inscription on ' Presented to the Rev. Stephen Hawtrey, for his kindness to William Stewart.' Supposed by a man about 5 feet 9 inches high, from 35 to 40 years of age ; dressed in hard felt hat, short, black jacket, and dark grey trousers ; was soliciting orders for family bibles. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hayes, Borough Police Office, Wndsor, Barks.— Bow- street, May 24. Stolen from a railway carriage, 11 a. m. train from Paddington via Thame, on 16th instant, between Princes Risborough and Bledlow Station : a small black leather hand Bag, with the name ' J. H. E. Stanley, Contractor, P. B. W. Trinidad,' on the bottom in white painted letters, containing 4 £ 10 Bank of England Notes, 8 Sovereigns, several American 20- doliar gold Pieces, some Demerara 5- dollar Notes, and a quantity of Mexican silver Dollars, in all about £ 180 ; also a gold English lever Watch, Chain, and Locket ; in the bag was a sketch Book, containing drawings of York Minster, and Peterborough Cathedral; the watch had the inscription * J. E. Stanley from W. G. S.' engraved inside outer case, and ' M. Banenia, Geneve, 25794— 999 | A' on i^ ome; the property of Mr. J. H. E. Stanley. Supposed by a man, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin long face, florid complexion, sandy or light moustache, wore two rings on each hand ; dressed in dark elothes, light overcoat, aud silk hat. He changed carriages at Bledlow Station, and was seen there with the bag in his possession. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Fernsby, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- street, May 24. Absconded from Newbury, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: H. YARROW, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, sallow complexion, dark eyes, hair, little whiskers on side » f face, and slight moustache, all dark ; dressed when he absconded in long grey ulster coat, patent leather leggings, lace- up boots, and hard round felt hat. . Recently employed as agent for the sale of articles of household furniture, sewing machines, & c. Friends reside at Cambridge- road, Hackney, where he was last heard of on 12th instant. May be travell- ing the country with a horse and cart. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bennett, Newbury, Berks, who holds the warrant. — Bow- street, May 22. Absconded, charged with embezzlement : a man, late of 102, Warner- place, Hackney- road, a drayman, 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in brown frock coat, white slop, moleskin trousers, and grey cloth stitched hat.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 22. Absconded on 16th instant, charged on a warrant with larceny : ARTHUR ROBINSON, late of 68, Norfolk- road, Amhurst- road, Dalston, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, square shoulders, sharp features, brown hair, slight mous- tache, and speaks quickly with a Yorkshire accent; dressed in black cutaway coat, and Oxford hat. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, . Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. G.— Bow- street, May 22. Absconded, charged with being concerned with two other men in custody, for stealing Pictures: KAUFMAN SCHERER, alias BARNETT, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, dark complexion, hair and eyes, and slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in light trousers, black frock coat and vest, high hat, and of Jewish appearance. He is in the habit of travelli g in the country with jewellery. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, May 22. Stolen from a new building at Aston, near Chester, on 12th instant : 8 pairing Chisels ; 4 Gouges ; 1 Brace and 36 Bits ; a smoothing Plane ; a Spokeshave ; a. swivel Bevel ; a quantity of Sprig- Bits and Gimlets ; a pair of Pincers ; a 10- inch rat- tail File ; a pair of Compasses ; an oil Can ; 2 saw Files ; a finger Slip ; a packet of Needles ; a cork Rubber; and a joiner's Bass, all marked ' J. Atkinson.' Also a 1^- inch rabbit Plane ; a Spokeshave ; a steel Hammer; a lf- inch Chisel; a li- inch Chisel ; 2 Gimblets ; and a Gouge, all marked ' G. Heath.' Also a plough Plane; a 1- inch bead Plane ( new) ; several Sprig- Bits; and a No. 6 Hollow, all marked ' J. Lloyd.' Supposed by two men of the following description : one about 5 feet II inches high, sandy com- plexion., high cheek boaes, and slender build; dressed in a ] dark coat, dark greasy trousers with a large patch on each j knee, lace- up boots, and seft billycock hat. Second man, about! 5 feet .7 inches high ; dressed in dark shabby clothes. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Mayho, County Police Station, Oakmere, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 20. Absconded, charged with stealing a number of Flutes and Banjos, value £ 10: SAMUEL BERNARD, an actor, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, sandy moustache, aquiline nose, thin face, lisps,. and stoops when walking. He is known in the profession as Sam Barnard, and his wife is travelling in the name of Laura Standley, with Fred Wright's ' Quarter of a Million Company,' now performing in the provinces, where he is likely to be found. Warrant issued.—• Metropolitan Police,' M Division, May 20. Stolen from a private house in Hitchin on 13th instant : a gilt Watch and Guard, a gold mourning Ring ' in memory of,' and a gold Ring with large stone surrounded with small ones ( blue and red). By a young man who came from London, same day obtained lodgings, stopped a few hours, and left, returning by rail to London ; he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers ; dressed in dark elothes, brown billy hat, brown gloves, and carried a walking stick.
