The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marls of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *** Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of EDG. RIVETT, charged with maliciously And feloniously wounding Albert Blomfield, at Mendham, on < 5th instant: he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, pale complexion, snaps his eyes when talking to any one; dressed in dark monkey jacket, • cord trousers, and black imitation skin vest, and chummy hat. Information to be given to Sergeant Tuddenham, Harleston, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for liis apprehension, . — How- street, February 8. Whereas tlie dead body of a newly- born female Cliild was found in the Birmingham Canal at Heatli- town, near Wolverhampton, on 21st instant, and a Coroner's jury having returned a verdict of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown,' £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person other than a police officer who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accom- plice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at any Police Station in Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 30. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Wanted at Middlesborough, on a charge of assault and robbery : a man about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, turning grey, no whiskers or moustache, slender figure, and walks erect; Pressed when last seen in a light grey coat, white duck jacket underneath, dark vest, dirty moleskin trousers, piped up each side, strong laced boots, and flat skull cap ; he is accompanied by a woman about 20 years of age, who has a child about 5 months old ; he has been a soldier, and has lodged in Black Bull- yard, at Stockton- on- Tees, may be found in some common Jodging- house. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorksb i re.— Bow- street, Feb. 4. of the Horse. Information to be given to the Chief of Police' Detective Office, Moor- street, Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, February 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen between 4th and 7th instant, from a field at Hednesford, the property of Mr. John Wright : a Sheep, the head, skin, and entrails being left behind. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownliills, or to Sergeant Oockerell, Police Station, Hednesford, near Stafford.— Bow- street, February 8. Stolen between 9 p. m. on 5th and 5 a. m. on Gtli instant, from the stable of Mr. Thomas Orchard, farmer, at Woodwells Farm, near Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead, Herts : a very dark iron grey mare Pony, about 4 years old, thick set, in very good condition, 14 hands high, the head is of a lighter , rrey than the body. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Isgate, Police Station, Hemel Hempstead, Herts. — Bow- street, February 8. Stolen from a field in Harborne during 30th or 31st nltimo : a red roan horse Cob, 13£ hands high, rising 5 years old, bang tail, in good condition, and newly shod all round. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or to Sergeant Kavanagh, Harborne, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 6. Stolen between 7 and 11 p. m. on 1st instant, from a stable at Metchley- lane, Harborne, Birmingham : a bright liay Gelding, in good condition, rising 3 years old, about 14 hands I inch high, small star in forehead, and a few grey hairs on top of tail. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner, Mr. WAR WOOD, at the above address, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Lichfield on 4th instant, chai- ged with stealing a pair of Boots and a Jacket ( both recovered) : a man about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather thin build, grey whiskers, clean shaved, and no moustache; dressed in dark loose overcoat, blue serge trousers, high black silk hat, elastic side boots, and wears spectacles when reading or writing. He is of respectable appearance, and stated that he was a clerk, and had been in the employ of Mr. Lovatt, of Wolverhampton, contractor, & c. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hernaman, Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, February 8. Absconded, charged on warrant with larceny, bailee of a certain Violin, at Rotherfield, in Januarv last : THOMAS HOATH, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 " or 10 inches high, fair complexion, light eyes, dark brown hair, has a hare lip and no roof to his mouth, slight figure, late of Withyham, Sussex, and a labourer; dressed in white slop, fustian vest and trousers, dark cloth cap with peak, and heavy half boots; he is fond of frequenting low public- houses and beer- shops, and will be playing a violin if he can get one. Supposed to be well known round Woolwich, Kent. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, or to Sergeant Avery, Court House, Mark Cross, Sussex. —- Bow- street, February 8. Description of WILLIAM TOMLINE, charged with having on 4th instant, at Clee, stolen from his lodgings a pair of sea Boots ( recovered), a plain gold finger Ring, a Sovereign, and some Silver, the property of Charles William Lake : he is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair parted down the middle, tattooed with a fishing smack on right arm, a sailor carrying the Union Jack, a woman's head, a soldier's head with a rough cap on left arm, and ' W. T.' on back of left hand ; dressed in a light rough top coat, with velvet collar, dark mixture cloth jacket underneath, black vest, and dark cord trousers, blue and white stripe cotton shirt, round hard hat, and lace- up boots. He has been twice to sea in a fishing smack, but states lie is a slioefinisher. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Jarvis, County Police Station, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 8. Description of a tramp who. is charged with having on 4th instant, at Tealby, stolen from a com bin in the stable of Mr. W. Drakes, a fustian Jacket, with two pockets outside and one inside left breast, lined with checked collar lining, and not much worn, the property of James Barnaby : he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, very dark complexion, dark eyes, black hair and moustache, whiskers about a fortnight's growth, slender figure, and several letters tattooed on left hand ; dressed in black billycock hat, light coloured scarf, rough black cloth jacket ( such as is usually worn by sailors), brown striped vest ( one stripe larger than the other), black cloth trousers, quarter boats with wooden soles, tied with whipcord, the right boot has a large patch on the outside. States he is a shipbuilder, and has worked at Barton- on- Humber, Messrs. Clayton and Shuttleworth's at Lincoln, and has been a sailor. He wa3 allowed to sleep in the outhouse the previous night and left at 8 a. m. on 4th instant. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Henton, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 8. JAMES ADAMS, advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ultimo, has been apprehended at Liverpool and the property recovered.-- Bow- street, February 8. Description of a woman, charged with stealing on 22nd ultimo, at Langford, a light lilac coloured Shawl with little white diamonds at the four corners ; an Umbrella ( re- covered); a gentleman's Scarf Pin with black- and- white streaked emerald stone set in jet; and Four Shillings. Also on 23rd at Swaffham, a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots with patent toes ( nearly new); a female's blue cloth Jacket, & c. There are several other charges against her. She is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, very dark brown hair and eyes, dark complexion ; dress uncertain, but probably wearing the stolen jacket and boots, a dark bonnet and brown dress, and under her dress may have one or two Satin Skirts, stolen at Fakenham on 25th instant. She is travelling the county" of Norfolk carrying on a system of fraud by representing that she is leaving one situation for another, and obtaining food and lodging. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Lambley, Swaffham, Norfolk.— Bow- st., February 8. Absconded on 26th ultimo, from the service of the Great Northern Railway Company: J OS I AH HARBOR, a clerk, in the Engineer's Department at Leeds, charged with stealing £ 114, belonging to his employer : he is 29 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, full face, brown hair, grey eyes, small light moustache, and bridge of nose broken ; was wearing at the time of his leaving dark clothes, and hard black felt hat. A warrant has been granted for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Mr. Ward, of the Leeds Borough Police ; to W. Hamilton, Great Northern Railway Company's Police, at Leeds; or to R. Williams, Great Northern Railway Company's Police, King's Cross, London. — Bow- street, February 8. Description of GEORGE DALE, alias WHIPPET, wlio has absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Stafford on 19tli ultimo : he is about 30 years of ager 5 feet 2J inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, medium build, five blue dots on back of right hand, sight of both eyes defective, cut on third finger of right hand ; supposed dressed in dark suit, red muffler, and sailor's cap. He is a labourer-, has also served as a sailor, and is likely to seek employment as a shoeblack or ostler at some low public house. Has served 3 years in a reformatory, and is also a returned convict. Information to be given to Inspector Gruttidge, Guildhall, Staffordshire, who holds the warrant for his arreet..— Bow- street, February 6. Description of JOHN BARNETT, absconded from Sheffield, charged with larceny : he is a Scotch packman, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light pale complexion, light hair, long nose ; dressed in a suit of black cloth, and new elastic side boots. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, February 6. Further information respecting the great Coat, stolen at Llanveynoe, advertised in Police Gazette of 26th ultimo : it is a dark brown double- breasted Top- coat, velvet collar, one pocket outside each skirt, and a ticket pocket on right side, hUs a square patch put in at the bottom of right hand pocket. Supposed by an Irishman, 52 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout built, clean shaved, fresh complexion, grey hair ; dressed in woollen cord trousers, white slop, black hat, and strong nailed boots ; supposed to be wearing the stolen coat, as he left his own behind, is a tilimpifig gardener, and calls at farm houses seeking work, antl supposed to be gone to Glamorganshire. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or to P. S. Phillips, Abbey- dore, nerr Hereford.— Bow- street, February 6. Description of JOHN HAYNES, an ironmonger's assistant, charged on warrant with embezzling Money, belonging to his employer at Uppingham : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, bold full eyes, Roman nose, florid complexion, walks erect, and generally carries his" hands in his pockets when walking. He left Uppingham in June last, and has not since been heard of. When he came to Uppingham in January, 1877, he stated he had been in the service of a Mr. Morton, ironmonger, Crewe, Cheshire, which statement is false. It is suspected he is a native of Shropshire,, and is going in some other name. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham, or to Mr. Superinten- dent Murfitt, Police Station, Uppingham, Rutlandshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 6. Absconded on 25th ultimo, from Bower's fylanor, South- gate- road, Edmonton, charged with larceny from dwelling- house : a man, 44 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, florid complexion, whiskers shaved under chin, slightly pockmarked, husky voice, and of gentlemanly appearance.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, February 4. Absconded on 28tli ultimo, from 24, Wellington- street, Strand, embezzling £ 6. : a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, full round face, and dark brown hair ; dressed: in grey tweed walking coat, vest and trousers, lace boots, and billycock hat.— Metropolitan Folioe, E Division, February 4. Wanted, charged with larceny : HENRY GASKIN, about 70 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair turning grey. LEWIS LAMB, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, thin face, fair complexion, and has lost one eye. Both travel with vans, hawking mats, brushes, brooms, baskets, & c., and deal in old horses. Are well known in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridge, Huntingdon, and Middlesex. Warrants are issued against both. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ackers, Brain tree, or to Inspector Fox, Castle Hedingham, Essex.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen on 29th ultimo, from a dwelling- house in Oxford : a silver chronometer lever Watch, made in Coventry No. 7446, capped and jewelled in two holes, with maintaining power ; a lady's silver Geneva Watch, No. 37440 ; a suit of black cloth Clothes, braid round sleeves of coat; a twill silk pocket Handkerchief; a silver pencil Case; and a small ivory handled Penknife, with 3 blades. By a lodger who said he was manager for a firm of engineers at Leeds, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and whiskers, shaved on chin, dark eyes, one eyelid drops, has scars undi r one ear ; dressed in a light grey top coat, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, silk hat- with " mourning band. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Head^ Police, Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, February 4. Stolen from Benjamin Warrender, at Brownhills, on 3rd instant : a dark pilot double- breasted Overcoat, frock coat shape, two pockets in skirts behind, two bone buttons behind, and lined with black corded shining material; and a light coloured egg Cup, with lilac leaf, containing 8d. in Coppers. By WM. CROSS, about 33 yrg. of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, fresh complexion, light hair, curled at end and parted in centre ; dressed in shabby black cloth jacket and vest, black cloth trousers with fly fronts, blue woollen scarf, hard black hat, lacc- up boots with piece cut or worn out at big toe. He walks lame. Said he was an engine tenter, a native of Dark Lanes, near Dawlev, Wellington, Salop, served apprenticeship at the Lilleshall Company's engine works, and worked as engine tenter at Ketley Colliery till November last. Febi mary 8 Description of two men. charged with stealing a quantity of Oranges, at Helmsley, on the 12th ultimo : JOSEPH FAWCETT, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slender figure ; a native of Pickering, Yorkshire, travels the country hawking oranges, and sometimes hardware ; dressed in a black cloth coat, black cloth cap, dark cord trousers, and watertight boots. He holds a pedlar's certificate in the name of JOSEPH TURNER, granted by Mr. Superintendent Spence, Pickering. And SINGING CHARLEY, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, no whiskers, fresh complexion, long visage; dressed in grey coat, dirty moleskin trousers, Scotch cap, white rim round the ribbons behind; he frequents public- houses singing and sometimes hawks oranges ; he is well known at Scarborough, Hull. Bridlington, and Driffield. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Park, Malton, or to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moorside.— Bow- street, February 4. Description of THOMAS FURBER, charged with stealing, on 21st ultimo, a real dark opossum carriage Rug. value .£ 20 ; the property of F. 0. Perry, Esq. : about 33 yrs. of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, slight build, light whiskers on each side of face, rather long nose and pockpitted ; walks erect and with a sharp step, and turns his toes outwards ; dressed in cotton cord trousers and vest, no jacket on, lace- up boots, dark cloth cap with peak, worn on right side of head, and is an ostler and a native of Prees, Shropshire. .£ 5 reward is offered for the recovery of the Rug and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Sergeant livans, Cannock, near Stafford, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow street, February 1. Stolen from a dwelling- house in St. Catherine- street, Yentnor, between 9 and 11- 30 a. m. on 30th ultimo : a lady's gold Geneva open- faced Watch, gold hands, engine- turned fancy back; a lady's long gold neck Chain, square link pattern ; two watch Keys, one gold, the other common; a small gold Pencil- case, with blood- coloured stone attached. Supposed by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, dark brown bushy whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in black or very dark overcoat, and hard round felt hat, and of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Horan, Hants Constabulary, Newport, Isle of Wight, or to Sergeant Ransom, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, FebS'uary I. Wanted for larcenv in Durham, on 21st ultimo, part of property recovered: DUNCAN SPET. RS, alias JOHN PERRY or PARRY, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light hair, grey eyes, lias two cut scars on right side of forehead, one of them of a light bluish colour, in the shape of V, birth mgrk on left breast, vaccination scar on left arm, scars on back and buttock, scar on right calf ; is a native of Rutherglen, near Glasgow, has generally worked as a miner or labourer, and has been previously convicted for felony. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, Feb. 1. Stolen on 27th ultimo, from Bridstow, near Ross : a double- cased engine- turned silver Watch, withont a glass, maker — , Birmingham, with black ribbon and steel Seal attached, and the letter ' E.' on the Seal. Also a German- silver Watch, with steel' Chain and Key attached. By HENRY LAMBERT, alias WILLIAM DAVIES, alias HODGES, a labourer, and native of Minchinhampton, near Stroud ; he is about 16' years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, round face, brown hair, and scar on forehead ; dressed in black short jacket, brown vest, cord trousers, worn at knees, and patched at the bottoms, strong boots with tips on toes and heels, black round hard bowler hat, and red cravat. He was traced to Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, where he was seen with the two Watches in his possession. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Smith, Ross, Hereford- shire.— Bow- street, February 1. hat, and blucher boots, with three eyelet holes on each side. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Thompson, Police Office, Barnard Castle, Durham.— Bow- street, Feb. 4. FRAUDS A1B AGGRAVATED MISDEMEAN OURS. Description of GEORGE PULLING, a labourer, of Witliington, charged with night poaching on the night of 25th November last, on land in the occupation of the Rev. William Poole, at Eggleton, Herefordshire, with six others who are committed to take their trial at the next assizes for the county of Hereford : lie is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers meeting under chin, hair turns up at ends ; dress, cbrd trousers, supposed long black overcoat, and black jim crow hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Blunsdon, Ledbury, Hereford- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 8. Description of WALTER A. HAIGH, charged with obtaining £ 10 by means of false cheque : 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, carrotty ( supposed since shaved off ) ; dressed in check suit arid billycock hat. Ho speaks with a Yorkshire accent ( slight impediment), and frequents the Westminster Aquarium. Warrant issued. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, February 6. Description of a woman, who on 30th ultimo, at a watch- maker's shop in Mold, obtained under false pretence an old- fashioned verge Watch, No. 660, maker ' J. Lenard, London': she is about 24 years of age, very short, dark complexion and hair, and large chignon ; dressed in a black hat, with a fall round the rim, black shawl, and grey dress with small flounces. Had a child in her arms, about a month or 6 weeks old, wrapped up in an old. blaek aud white shawl, dirty appearance. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Menshuil, Mold, Flintshire.— Bov;- street, Feb. G. Description of the Rev. FREDERICK DAVIS, late of Manor House, Korthfieet, Kent, for whose apprehension a warrant has been granted, charged with indecently assaulting Rosina Webb, whilst travelling in a third class carriage on the North Kent Railway, between Strood and Gravesend, on 16th December last: he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet ( S inches high, broad shoulders, and stout build, very dark complexion, black hair, and few black whiskers on cheek ; d - essed as a clergyman, in long black cloth frock coat, broad brimmed hat, and white neckerchief. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Coppinger, Kent County Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- sifeet, February 4. Description of JAMES TAYLOR, charged on warrant with wounding a gamekeeper, near Staindrop : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, pale complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, whiskers down the side of face, propor- tionately made, shoulders rather large, and a pitman ; dressed in black cloth coat and_ vest, grey cloth trousers, black felt MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of a man in custody, charged with larceny from his lodgings, where ho gave the name of WILLIAM DOBSON, and when charged that of FREDK. THOMPSON: 34 years of age, 5 feet 8b inches high, florid complexion, very dark hair, slight whiskers, shaved on chin, small hazel eyes, right eyelid drops slightly, and abscess scars under left ear ; dressed in a light brown dust coat, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, black silk hat, with mourning band, and lace- up boots. States that lie is a carpet planner and fitter, that he was bom in Dublin, but has been the greatest part of his life in Australia, and the last 18 months at 12 or 14, Clifton- road, Brighton. On him were found the following pawn- broker's duplicates : Fraser, Ipswich, 22nd November, 1876, Portmanteau, 15s.; Chilton, Chesterfield, 26th February, 1877, Vest, Is. 6d. ; Priestman, Nottingham, 6th Mar., 1877, gold Albert, £ 1 8s. 6d. ; Hides, Sheffield, 28th March, 1877, Cigar Holder, 7s.; Burton, Chester, 15th June, 1877, Ring, 5s. ; Butters, Derby, 25th August, 1877, Ring, 2s.
