POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. A WB WOOTDIIG. Absconded on 1st instant, from Burford, near Tenburv, charged on a warrant with wounding James Lloyd, with a reaping hook : JOHN HOOPER, alias CHAS. HAWKER, from 20 to 25 years of age, about 6 feet high, dark hair and complexion, very little whiskers ; dressed in dark coat and vest, woollen cord trousers, and black soft hat, which he wears on one side of his head, hangs his head down when walking, and is a native of Malvern, which place he left about • 6 months ago; he was traced to Worcester, and left to go harvesting with a man from 40 to 50 years of age, dark hair, whiskers, and complexion, and they said they were going to Pershore, Evesham, or to Warwickshire. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Christie, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.- Bow- street, August 13. Description of a man charged with murder at Richmond, on 6th instant: 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, square shoulders, proportionate build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, inclined to curl, beard, whiskers, and thick moustache, long, dark, and peculiar eyes; dressed in dark pilot jacket and vest, dirty fustian trousers ( large patch on one inee), black billycock hat, heavy lace boots, and carried a thin canvas bag. Works as an excavator or gardener's labourer. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, S. Description of EDWAD TAYLOR EVANS, charged with forgery, and obtaining on 7th instant, the sum of J215 in Notes and Gold, the property of his employer : he is a native of the Cape of Good Hope, of English parentage, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches or 6 feet high, dark eyes, dark brown hair, straight, sallow complexion, large mouth, large irregular teeth, pleasing countenance, thia build, square shoulders, his lefc leg was amputated at the thigh, wears a fake leg and foot, and walks with two sticks ; dressed when last seen in black shooting coat and vest, grey trousers, and generally wears a high silk hat. SHE PBMSOT, Stolen from the person of Charles Pwycross, 14 years of age, on the highway between Chelmsford and Writtle, about 5 p. m. 15th instant: a pair of strong lace up Shoes, braes eyelet holes, half iron tips on one side of heels, and square hob nails on the other halfs, the soles nailed with square h © b nails, and 3 months in wear. By a man, about 5 feet 10 ins. high, stout made, carroty moustache, and tufc of sandy hair on chin ; dressed in dark coat, light cord trousers, and white billycock hat. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Lennon, Constabulary Office, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street, August 17. On the morning of 13lh instant, a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light hair, dark complexion ; dressed in grey suit, black felt hat, and wearing two finger , A pair of gold loop Ear- rings, with very small acorn drops rings, one of them with reversible stones, and having a cigar holder with the figure of a woman, and the little finger on left band with a tattoo mark of a ring, and wearing a long gold watch guard plaited into four lengths, and representing to persons that he was about the country buying pigs to send to Croydon. Hired a pony and trap in Dudley, the property of James John Checkers, Stafford- street, Dudley, and drove with bim to Bridgnorth. On returning to Dudley, the man gave Mr. Checkett's something to drink from a bottle and he suddenly became insensible. On recovering he found himself lying in the Turnpike- road, bruised on the head and body, his teeth loosened, and robbed of a silver Watch, and gold albert Chain, two Half Sovereigns, about £ 1 in Silver, and a brown beaver great Coat. Information to be given to any of the Staffordshire Constabulary Stations, or to Chief Superin- tendent Burton, Dudley, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, August 17. Stolen from the person in Kendal, on 14th instant: a silver veige Watcb, makers name Clowes, Liverpool, No. 8053. Stolen from the person at Bridge of Allen, on 4th inst.: a silver lever Watch, No, 59543, plain hunting cases, maker ' John P. Hutton, Edinburgh, Patent,' on a white dial with black chapter figures : a gold Lever Watch, No. 10992, gold dial with gold figures, black steel hands, the point if minute hand broken off, cases much worn ; an old- fashioned double- cased gold Watch, No. 8456, white dial, ' Glennel, Edin- burgh,' on plate inside, and a gold Albert Chain attached, with a horse bit in centre, and plain bar ; and a gold Lever Watch, No. 23853. Stolen from the person : a silver lever Watch, has ' John Kaye, Overlooker, Warrington' engraved on the outside of inner case, had attached a long silver Guard, ai d about 17s. in Money. Stolen from the person ia Brighton since 9th instant: An old- fashioned open face lever Watch, engine- turned, with the name of ' Holmes' engraved on the inside. Ross, Clapham Road,' engraved on works ; a silver Albert attached, and Key, with stone- sitting missing. A gold English lever Watch, white dial, fancy esgraved back, maker ' Bennett.' Stolen from the person in Brighton since 4th instant,: A lady's gold Ring, set with three small stones, a heart pendant hanging from the ring, a true lover's knot ia centre, and a forget- me- nct on each side of the ling. A silver English lever Watch, with small crack in dial near the second hand, maker's name supposed to be ' Thomp- son Cade. Northallerton,' and a gold cuib Albert Chain with a spade Guinea attached. A very old gold chronometer Watch, maker ' Reed, Corn- hill, London,' and a gold Albert Chain, with a plain gold Locket attached. A Geneva Watch, platina back, figured, maker ' Bennett, Cheapside,' and a gold Albert Chain, long plain links. A gold American open- face Watch, maker • Waltham,' with the initials ' S. T. V. Absconded, charged at Nantwich, with housebreaking at Church Minshull, and stealing about £& 0 in Gold, on 29th ultimo : RICHARD BAKER, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown and sunburnt complexion, brown hair, cut short, long seal on top lip, another on back of head, had the appearance of a navvy ; dressed in breeches, without leggings, but which he has since changed for a new suit of dark mixture clothes, with light spots, and strong lace- up boats. And a man named JOHN DEIGHTON, is charged with recaiving the money, knowing it to have been stolen : 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown whiskers and moustach?, is a waggoner from Audlem. When last heard of they were drinking and spending money freely in public- bouses. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent North, Wilts Constabu- lary, Swindon.— Barn- street, August 15, Stolen from a field at Walsall Wood, during the night of 11th instant. : a ewe Sheep, which was slaughtered, the ? kin and entrails ware found in the canal about half a mile away. Stolen on 10th instant, from Scotts Park, Hammersmith : a light chesnut cob Horse, 7 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, white streak down forehead, large head, tongue split, hair off between hock and hoof of near hind leg, no shoes on hind feet. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, very little whiskers, walks upright; dressed in long butcbern slop, dark trousers, and billycock hat, caa be identified.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, August 15. Stolen in South Shields, on 17th instant : a Pony and Cart ( recovered) ; the property of Thomas Mason. Bv EDWARD JOHN NESBITT, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh c aaplexion, shoit nose, big mouth, stout, and much pockmarked.; dressed in dark shooting coat, dark vest, fustian trousers, and hard felt bat. August IT On the 8th instant, a bay gelding Pony, 13 hands 3 ins. high, with broken knees, and a spavin on off hind leg, with a set of silver- plated Harness, and a village Cart, painted blue, • with yellow iines, imitation wicker work under wings, were hired for a few hwurs, and have not yet been returned. By a maD, about 25 years ot age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, and small light whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, and black hard felt round hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Heading, Berks.— Bow- street, August 15. Stolen from Lutley, near Halesowen, on the night of 11th instant: a roan Pony, 6 years old, 12 hands high, thick set, brown nose, black legs, mane, and tail, has a little hair off above the nose, is very docile; also stolen a leathei Head- stall, with a rope attached. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Kemp, Halesowen, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, August 13. Absconded from Blackburn, since 4th instant, charged with stealing a Horse, recovered, the property of Thomas Constantine : THOMAS ROBINSON, a carter, from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, slight whiskers, thin face, thin prominent nose, red at the end, rather high cheek bones, and slovenly gait; dressed in an old dark faded cloth cap, coidurov or moleskin jacket, new moleskin vest and trousers, and sboes. He is a native of Nottingham or Buxton. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Blackburn, Lancashire, who holds a warraut for his apprehension,— How- street, August 13. Stolen from a field at Allesley, between 7 a. m. 8th, and 1 p. m. 9th : a light coloured bay Horse, 15 hands high, aged, very thick set. white star on forehead, and has lost the off eye. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Walker, Police Station, Longford. near Coventry, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, AvguH 13. Found, supposed to have been stolen, at Shuttington, near Atherstone, on 1st instant: a chesuut Horse, aged, about 1C hands higb, lame of oil' fore fetlock, white blaze down forehead. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- itreet, August 10. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from afield in Sandbach : an aged bay mare Pony, 11 hands higb, tail cut very short, has had a bang on one knee, the property of Mr. Thomas Swain, Information to be given to Mr. Superin- tendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 10. Stolen from a field near Newtown, on the night of 6th instant : a black Cow, 5 years old, has small white patches along the back, and is light coloured under the belly. Stolen from the dwelling- house of William Foreman, at Bearpark, ou 12th in nr.; £ 5 10s. in Gold, about £- 2 in Silver, a morocco leather Purse, and a washleather Purse which fastens with a running string. By HORACE PULFORD, alias HARRY PULFORD, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, daik complexion and eyes, dark brown hair and whiskers, shaved on upper lip and chin, proportionate figure ; when last seen was dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket, which has been mended at right posket, dark check tweed trousers and vest, black and red cheek scarf, soft felt hat, and elastic- side boots, all much worn. He is a labourer, single, native of Norfolk or Suffolk, has been a soldier, and has also been employed at the herring fishery at Yarmouth. He is well isnown at Crook, Waterhouses, Sleetburn, and Esh New Winning, where he has worked latterly as a cinder drawer. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Eow- Ureet, August 17. Stolen on 13th instant, from a workshop at Newport Pagnell: a pair of tailor's cutting Shears, the property of Mr. Daniel Egan. By a tramping tailor who had woiked for Mr. Egan a few days, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins high, dark floiid complexion, dark eyes, dark brown hair, and small dark whiskers and moustache; dressed in hard black hat, and dark cloth suit. He is an Irishman, and is supposed to have recently left the Army. Information to be f, i / en to Inspector Hall, Bucks Constabulary, Newport Pagnell.— Bou>- street, August 15. Description of CHARLE3 PURCELL, late manager to Rosenberg & Neufliess, Manufacturers, Birmingham, charged with stealing £' M) on 11th instant, at Tamworth : a tailor, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, slight build, mark ou first finger right hand from dog bite ; dressed in black corded worsted coat, blue cloth vest, light tweed trousers, elastic side boots, hard hat with flat crown. Information to be given to Inspector McCrea, Tamworth, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Aug. 15. Description of DANIEL MARROTT, who is charged on warrant with having on 13th instant, at Spittlegate, stolen from a fellow- lodger two pairs of Trousers, one lavender colour, the other light grey ; one brown leather Purse, and about jfi3 in Gold and Silver; a Pocket Knife with 3 blades, one bt ken ; and one 6- inch Rule, which folds up : 30 to 35 years ot age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, thick neck, broad face, dark hair, cut very short, whiskers shaved off, supposed to have a small tuft on chin, and tattooed on both hands ; dressed in light grey suit, cloth cap with cheese- cutter peak, blue satin necktie with white spots in it, white shirt, and strong lase- up boots. He says he was a boiler- maker, and that he has worked at a foundry in Lincoln, and that his father and mother reside there. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wynne, County Police Station, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 15. Absconded on 11th instant, from 59, Mortimer street, stealing £ 3 in gold : a youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair, red eyes ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, round felt hat. and side spring boots, a porter.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 15. Absconded on 10th instant, from 39, Tottenham- street, St. Pancras, stealing £ b : a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in shabby black.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 15. Stolen on the night of the 10th instant, from No. 3 Hut, D Lines, South Camp, Aldershot: about £' i 15s., a dark sla£ e- coloured tweed Coat, a pair of grey tweed Trousers and Vest ( nearly new), a pair of brown Braces, a white Shirt with fancy front ( the name ' Juxon Jones' in front), a pair of gold coloured Links, and a Collar ( marked 1 Juxon Jones'), 3 shirt Studs with white stones ( one cracked), a new black hard round felt Hat, and a pair of Socks ( marked * Juxon Jones'). By a private in the 31st Regiment, who is probably wearing the stolen clothes : he is 18 years of age, slight build, 5 feet 4i inches high, brown hair, dark brown moustache, grey eyes, and fresh complexion, tattooed with an anchor and S. B.', and cross on left arm; a native of Shoreditch, London. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, August 15. Absconded on 4th instant, from 21, Nottingham- place, Marylabone, stealing and uttering a Cheque for £ 40 : a mau, 25 years of age, 5 leet 5 inches high, lair complexion and hair, and slight moustache ; dressed in grey tweed mixture suit, black hard felt hat; an attendant and clerk. Formerly lodged at Thorpe's Mews, Cambridge Gardens, Notting Dale; was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment in August, 1875.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, August 13. Description of convict Reg. No. W 898, GEORGE LAWSON, who has absconded, charged with stealing two Sovereigns, from his late lodgiogs at Ivegill, near PenriSh, Cumberland : He is supposed to be a native of the North Riding of Yorkshire, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches higb, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, brown whiskers and beard, of about a months growth, upper and lower lips shaved, right arm crippled, one upper front tooth broken, two scais inside of thigh, and lunniug sores outside of left thigh; dressed in faded darkish grey check coat and waist- coat, yellow woollen cord trousers, and black roundabout hard felt hat, with the edge of brim and the binding cut off. he is a labourer or farm servant, and will probably be found employed on some public works. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Fowler. Penrith, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- st., August 13. Absconded from the Great Northern Railway Company's Goods Dej, 6t, King's Cross, charged ( with another man in custody, named WICKENS), with stealing a Bale of Cloth from the Great Northern Railway Company's Goods Dep6t : WILLIAM CHATBURN, alias MIKEY, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thick set, dark brown hair, squints with both eyes ; usually dresses in short canvas slop, cord trousers, black cap with peak, and coloured neckerchief. He was employ etl in the King's Cross Goods Department by the potato salesmen as a porter; is married, and is believed to have gone into Kent, where ha will probably seek employ- ment as a navvy. A warrant has been granted for his apprehension, who is known to many of Y Division of the Metropolitan Police. £ 2 reward will be paid for this man's apprehension.
