Absconded from Leiston, charged with larceny from, the person: HENRY WOODS, alias YOUNG BRICKY, labourer, 26 years of age, 5 feet high, stout make, round face, black hair, whiskers shaved off and beginning to grow again, has a slight rupture in the left side and may be wearing a truss; dressed in a faded Bhort coat, white linen jacket, snuff coloured trousers and cap with a French peak; has a brother living at Yaxley, near Eye, and i3 known at Yarmouth and Lowestoft, having been fishing at those ports. Stolen from the person of Joseph Helliwell, of Mossdale Huts, near Moorcock, on 17th instant, whilst asleep in a field : a silver lever consular Watch, plain case, with shield or garter on back, jewelled in six holes, makers R. Iveson And Son, Kirkby Stephen, No. 43133, glass rather scratched; about 5s. in Silver ; and two Bottles, one containing gin, the other whiskey. Todd & Co,, Limerick' on neck strap; old blue cloth double- breasted vest; old brown trousers, patched at knees; and very old odd boots, one with slit cut in front: he was wearingahard billycock hat, he is about 19yearsof age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, round face, slightly freckled, brown hair, and swollen under left eye. Between 9.30 on the night of 19th and 6 on the morning of 20th instant, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Station at Tanshelf was broken and entered and stolen therein : about 10a. in Silver and Copper ; a suit of Clothes ( recovered) having been pledged at two pawnshop**, at Wakefield, by a man who gave the name of JOHN HILL at one place, and GEORGE GREGORY at the other, and who is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very little whisker*, dark brown heavy mou3tache, and thick lips; dressed in a blue pilot jacket with pockets at sides, and black billycock bat; he had the appearance of a pit sicker or a collier. Stolen from the house of Robert Jones, near Ruabon, by houae- breaking, during the absence of the family between 18th and 20th instant: a Welsh woollen grey cloth Coat and Vest, the lining stained with ink on the inside of the right! flap of the coat, is also stained with yellow paint on back ; and a pair of light woollen cord Trousers. Stated that he worked at Halifax, Yorkshire, and in Staffordshire as a collier, and gave the name of JOHN DAVIES. He i3 a native of Merthyr, Glamorganshire. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Abergavenny, to Mr. Mr. Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar Iron Works, or to Sergeant Williams, County Constabulary, Blaina, Monmouthshire, who holds the warrant for his appre- hension.— Boa- street, June 20. E STEALINGS The Horse advertised in the Police Gazette of 27th instant, as stolen from Kinley, the property of Thomas Jervis, farmer, has been found.— Bow- street, Juns 29, Stolen from a field at Besley, duriDg the night of 21st instant: a dark brown cait Mare, aged, about 16$ hands high, white blaze down face, near hind fetlock white, has suffered from poll evil, in good condition. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension of the offender or offend ere, and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Mapp, Police Office, Kings Heath, Worcestershire. — Bow street, June 27, Description oS two men who have absconded, ckarged with stealing a red Hereford Cow and a short- horn Bullock, from a field at Hawford, near Worcester, on 11th instant, the property of Mr. James Smith, butcher, Broad- street, Worcester, and which were sold by auction at Kidderminster Cattle Market, on the fcllowisg day : one about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, and whiskers down side of tace, upper lip aud chin shaved, dark complexion, and of gipsy appearance ; dressed in dark clothes, black bowler hat, and was wearing a grey shirt. Gave the name of HAN- KINS, of Abberley. The other man was more shabbily dressed, and had the appearance of a brother. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Boio- street, June 25. Stolen from a field at Wilsden, near Bingley, between 11 p. m , 17tb, and 8 am, 18th instant : a dark cream- colour Russian horse Pony, black streak along^ back, very small white spot on forehead, dark clean legs, 5 years old, about 13 hands high, ia good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ireland, West Riding Constabulary, Keighley. — Iiow- streei, June 22. Absconded, charged with receiving a Sheep ( recovered) on 23rd ultimo, knowing the same to have been stolen: JAMES MUNCEY, late of Litlington, Cambs, beer- house- keeper, & c. ; he is about 36 years of age, about 5 feet 6 ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers, has a peculiar squinting of the eyes when speakiDg; is well known at market towns in Beds, Cambs, Herts, and Hunts, and has relatives living in the neighbourhood of Tottenham, London. £ 2 reward will be given if he is apprehended before 4th proximo. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Pallant, Police Station, Arrington, near Royston, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, June 22. Description of JAMES GOODALL, late of Walpole, Norfolk, charged with stealing twenty Sheep on the night of 10th instant, since recovered : he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight make, very upright, fair Lair, whiskers, anl moustache, shaves on the chin ; dressed TO dark clothes, bkek felt hat, and carried a light overcoat and a black rug to a strap. He has a photograph and number of pawntickets, which he frequently exhibits in company, and generally states that he had been a farmer, and got flooded out. Information to be given to Mr. Super- intendent Hamilton, Norman Cross, Peterborough, North- ampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, June 20. UEOMY ,41B J^ limiKlffil. Description of a man who is charged with having at Sheffield, on 14th instant, stolen eighty- four pocket Knives; nine Smokers' and Chatelaine Knives ; a dark Coromandel Wood Case ; and four morocco Cases, called ' ladies com panions,' containing Knives, Scissors, Stillettoes, silver Thimbles, Pencil Cases, & c„ the goods being all of the beat quality, and the blades of the knives marked ' Thomas Turner & Co, Suffolk Works' : he is a, bout 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather sallow complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, and is of moderate build. When he obtained the goods he represented himself to be J. Arnott of the firm of J. Arnott & Co., warehoused), 51, Hope- street' Glasgow, ( no such firm being in existence), and signed a cheque on the Commercial Bank of Scotland, St. Enoch's- square, Glasgow, Arnott has to account with the bank but it appears a person giving the name ' Colin Hunter,' £ § ged 2 POLICE GAZETTE. June 22 £ 10 with the bank some time ago, (£ 9 of which he withdrew on the following day), and obtained 12 blank cheque?, one of which he fraudulently used to obtain possession of the goods enumerated and described above. The same man is also believed to have committed a like offence in Manchester, in April last, when he gave the name C. HUNTER. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Central Police Offices, Sheffield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- ttreet, June 29. Absconded from Warrington, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 66S7, maker Harris, Manchester, from his lodgings on 26th instant, where he had been one week: WILLIAM JAMES BATES, name supposed fictitious, about 3d years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, parted in middle, dark eyes, right one being nearly closed by contraction, scara of bura scald or scrofula on neck, the skin of which is also contracted, is supposed to be well educated, is well dressed, and of gentle- manly appearatce ; he represents himself as a cabinetmaker, but that is doubtful. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Hunt, Warrington.— Bow- ttreet, June 29. Description of THOMAS ABRAHAM JONES, charged with embezzling money al « Houghton- le- Spriiig : he is about 45 yeats of age, 5 feet inches high, daik brown hair, thin whiskers, has a scar or flesh mark on left cheek, and proportionate build ; dressed in dark coat and vest, and light coloured trousers. Was assistant to Doctors Tweddell and Lyon, at Houghton- le- Spring, and absconded on 18th instant, leaving his wife and family behind him. He was some years ago assistant with a doctor in Liverpool, and also at Crewe, Cheshire. Information to bs given to Mr. Super- intendent Farbridge, County Constabulary, Honghton- le- Spring, Durham, who holds a warr. xant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, June 27. Stolen on 25th inafc., from No 35, Great Russell- street: a brown leather Purse, brass clasp, containing one .£ 10 and two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, and .£ 18 in Gold. By a man, 40 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, and hair and whiskers dark ( turning grej); dressed in black frock coat, light vest, dark trousers fitting tight, militia boots, and felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E DivisionrJune 27. Stolen on 20th instant, at Bolton : a £ 10 Bank Note, No. U 75 68286, and £ 8 10s. in gold and silver, belonging t ® his employer. By JOHN CARTER a porter, 17 years of age ( but looks older), about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, rather stout for his age and pockpitted ; he was dressed in dark clo'. h trousers and vest, light tweed cloth coat, and black billycock hat. He has relatives in Leo- minster, Ludlow, Hanley, Bitterley in Shropshire, & c. He was traced to Salford on the day of the robbery. A reward of £ 1 will be paid for such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction, and a further allowance of ten per cent, on the amount of stolen money which may be recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Boie- ttreet, Jumll. Absconded on 21st instant, from 24, Marchmont- street, . Burton- crescent., embezzling about £ 1 : a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair and tuft on chin ; dressed in tweed coat and vest, - Bedford cord trousers, and rouud black hat, a baker, and is likely to go to Leith or Edinburgh. — he'. ropolitan Police, E Division, Jane 27. Stolen from James Bethel, at Norton, on 19th instant: a pair of elastic side Boots, five buttons on each boot; a pair of lace- up Boots, patent leather up lace holes and caps. By WILLIAM WAKELIN, a lodger, 18 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, dark face, and dark brown hair, cut short ; dressed in old dark cloth jacket and trouser?, soft billycock hat, and elastic side boots. Information to be given to Mr, Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 25. Further information respecting CHAS. HIGGINSON, alias W. BROWN, WILSON, CHARLES BURNS, and KELLY, as advertised in the Police Gazette of 13th instant: his height is 5 feet fc. j inches high, has a cut on end of left forefinger, and scar right of head, in hair. Was convicted of felony at Bolton, in Junp, 1874, also at Bury in December, 1876, in the nsme of Charles Higginson, anil at Stockport, on 5th May, 1877, with intent to commit felony in nameiof Charles Burns. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Aston, Sessions House, Altrincham, or to Serjeant Hollingworth, County Police, Lymm, Warrington, who holds a Variant for his apprehension.— Bows. rat, June 25. Absconded on 6 th instant, charged under warrant with embezzling on 12th ultimo the sum of £ 7, and other Moneys belonging to his employers, of Bolton : EDWARD LAMB, or MORRIS, a sewing machine agent and collector, late of Atherton, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, stout make, full face, brown hair, cut short behind, long brown moustache, at d has had the end of one finger injured, which is disfigured ; was dressed in tweed plaid coat, black cloth vest, tweed cloth trousers, and hard black billy- cock hat; he is a native of Blackburn, where he is well known, as he has relatives living there and at Barnsley or Doncaster. He has travelled in Rawtenstall, Atherton, Leigh, Westhoughton, and other towns in Lancashire. A reward of .£ 1 will be paid for such information as will lead to his apprehension and conviction. Description of a man charged with stealing a Shirt from Hoton, on 22nd instant, since recovered : he is about 33 yrs. of age, 5 ftet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, and slightly built; dressed in old dark coat, dark trousers, very greasy down the front, round black billy hat, a dark check shirt. Had the appearance of a tramping mechanic. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Peberdy, Loughborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, June 25. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, on 17th inst.: a man's blue ribbed cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, with flap3, and one inside left breast, containing a music list. Suspicion attached to a labourer, who called at seveial houses in the neighbourhood ou pretence of lighting his pipe : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown or sandy whiskers, and wore a brown coat. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- ttreet, June 25, Description of GEORGE COZENS, charged - with embezzling money, at Cambridge : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, black hair, small black moustache, whiskers recently shaved off; dressed in a drab cloth suit, with low black felt hat; he stated he was in the 101st Foot for 6 years, that he belonged so Newcastle- on- Tyne, ajid expected to receive a temporary pension ; he was employed by a milkman to deliver milk, and absconded on 16th instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 22. Description of WILLIAM DAKIN, alias DEKIN, charged ou a warrant with stealing one pint of Ale on 17th ultimo, the property of Michael Thomas Bass, and others, of Burton- on- Trent : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, daik brown hair, slight dark whiskers and moustache. He is a well sinker by trade and limps a little when walking. Is well known at Newton Solney, Hilton, and Church Gresley, Derbyshire. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 22.
