Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Pomona Gardens, Old Trafford, about 10 30 p. m. on 18th instant: a gold lever stop Watch, centre seconds, white face, plain back, * No. 64440' on face, had attached a gold albert Guard, long links, with three small links between, two French coins at the end, and bar broken off. j£ 5 reward will be paid by the owner on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch. Between 1 and 4 p. m. on 16th instant, the house of Thomas Hine, at Beddon Mill, Swithamley, near Leek, was broken into during the absence of the family, and stolen therein : a black cloth shooting Jacket, pocket inside breast, and two pockets outside; a pair of dark brown cloth " Trousers ; a black cloth Waistcoat; and an oval gold plated Locket, with monogram in front with the letters]' GH', and inside the photograph of the head and shoulders of a little girl, and a small gold plated Chain attached. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Williams, Leek, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, May 25. Stolen about 12 p. m. on 22nd instant, from the shop of Mr. Buckingham, High- street, St. Alban's, by taking down two shutters and breaking a pane of glass : an old China Tea- pot, with stand to put lamp under, white ground with blue sprigs ; an old Flemish quart Mug, with metal fixed lid, stone ground, with coloured pattern; two modern Cups and a Saucer, blue ground and figure; an old Sevres Cup and Saucer ; a grey Landscape ; and a Leeds China Tea- caddy, cream- coloured, with flowers, about 3 inches square. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Pike, St. Alban's Herts.— Bow- street, May 25. About 12 p. m. on 12th instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Dunn, of Moss Gate, near Hilderstone, was broken and entered by two men, who stole Half a Sovereiga; some Bread and Butter ; and a pair o£ woman's strong lace- up Boots, plain fronts, recently soled ; one man is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather broad shoulders, large nose, very little whiskers, and dirty looking ; dressed in black jacket, moleskin trousers, and old sammy hat, he wore clogs, and had a belt round his waist: the other man is about the same age, but much shorter, had a slight mous- tache, pale looking as if ill, and bow- legged ; dressed in cloth coat and trousers, supposed light colour, and black hard round felt hat; he will probably be wearing the stolen boots, as there was an old pair of elastic- side boots left behind ; this man held Mrs. Dunn down, and threatened to cut her throat with a razor, which he drew out of his pocket, if she made any noise. Description of ALFRED JONES, charged with break- ing and entering a dwelling- house at Kelston oil the 10th ult., and stealing two Dresden China Ornaments ( recovered) : he ia about 40 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow com-' plexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, blue eyes, long face, slender build, mole on right cheek, and scar on right temple. He travels the counties of Somerset, Wilts, and Gloucester, mending umbrellas and broken china. He was convicted of burglary at Devizes in 1869, and of larceny at Taunton in 1876. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Upper Bristol- road, Bath, Somersetshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, during the night of 15th instant; the property of Charles Ricketts, at Northfleet: an old Overcoat, a blue serge Jacket, bronze buttons with, ' R. T. Y. C.' on them ; a small blue enamel Box ; some! silver Buttons ; an old Cigar- holder ; and an old Locket with hair. Stolen on the night of 14th instant, by housebreaking, the property of Alfred Sme, Chelmsford, carpenter : an old fashioned silver lever Watch, initials 4 J. B.' scratched on back of outside case, glass loose, and a silver Chain attached. Also from the dwelling house of Mr, Cutts, Chelmsford, between 3 and 4 a. m. of 19th instant, by breaking and entering : a silver Geneva Watch, white enamel face, engraved at back with the name of 4 Edgar John Cutts,' and the initials 4E. J. C.' By a maD, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, swarthy complexion, broad shoulders, dark hair and eyes, and high cheek bones ; dressed in a dark coat, with round lappets in front, and outside pockets, round dark cap, and heavy lace- up shoes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Lennon, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street, May 22. It was offered for sale at Stagshaw Bank Fair on 19th inst., by a man from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and hair, short dark brown whiskers round his face ( turning grey), no moustache, stout figure, and speaks the Cumberland dialect; dressed in a short dark cloth coat, old dark corduroy trousers, black billycock hat, old boots, all very much worn; he looked like a tramp or drover. Stolen from a field at Ketley Bank, Salop, dnring the night of 14th instant : a light brown horse Pony, 7 years old, 11| hands high, hind legs white up to the fetlock joints, white blaza down the face, hair rubbed off the left hip, and in good condition, the property of Andrew Ferriday, of Oaken gates. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable lvin3, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merncks, Oaken- gates, Salop.— Bovj- street, May 22, Stolen from a field at Sherburn, between 12th and 17th instant : twelve fat hog Sheep, supposed to be marked with a fork at the end of right ear, under bit on near ear, or may have a round hole punched through far ear, if forked on far ear, they will have a dot o£ blue paint on the rump, the pro- perty of J. F. Lawson, farmer, Sherburn. ,£ 10 reward will be paid by the owner to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the said hogs. The Filly stolen from Billinside, near Consett, advertised ia the Police Gazette of 22nd;, insist, has beeu recovered. Description of THOMAS GEORGE, alias THOMAS HORTON, charged on a warrant with stealing a Greatcoat, two Slops, and one Handkerchief, the property of Horace Drury, St. Mary 4 The Virgin,' Kent, on 3rd instant: about 23 years of age, about 5 fest 7 inches high, light complexion, thin pale face, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, very weak eyes, has a peculiar look, carries his head dowii and a little one side, tattooed on arms, and a ring round one finger, supposed in blue ink. He was brought up in the Orphan School at Stepney, London, has been a shoeblack, he is known in different, towns in West Kent, and ia commonly called SHOEBLACK, has travelled with horse dealers, and attends clubs and fairs. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Maxted, Kent Constabulary, Sandgate.— Boao- strest, May 25. Absconded from Middlesborough, charged with stealing a Coat and Vest, recovered : a puddler, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, long nose, a blue mark on one side of jaw, supposed left, brown hair, light moustache, no whiskers, and slender build ; dressed iE dark pilot jacket, tarn at middle of back, a blue linen jacket under- neath, moleskin vest and trousers, patched on one knee with material of a darker kind, and wore a black cap. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bcm- ttreet, May 25. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. William Cox, at Prees, Salop, between 19th and 21st instant: a £ 5 Note on Whitchurch and Ellesmere Bank ; a Bonnet, black silk crown and feathers round it, black ribbon ends and crape bow at the back ; a grey circular tweed Cloak ; a black merino Cape trimmed with lace, ribbon and beaded fringe ; a black alpaca Dress with small kilted flounces and trimmed with black figured alpaca, two pockets— one each side, and with jacket- body with one bow on each sleeve ; one black satin quilted Petticoat, with alpaca on the upper part; a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern with Seal attached in swivel, the seal is a stone dark on one side and nearly white on the other ; a large finger Ring, with hair set under glass ; a dress Ring, set with rubies and pearls ; a Ring, set with corals ; a hair Ring, set in gold with initials 4 S. O.'; a gold Locket, with cable pattern down the centre ; a fancy gold Locket, coi. ia'ning two Photographs of ladies. By CORNELIA BEATRICE BOULTON, servant, who was left in charge of the house and absconded on the morning of 21st instant, 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, slightly pockmarked, a native of Chester, is well known to the police there, also at Birkenhead and Liverpool, where she has been in custody on charges of theft; dressed in part of the stolen property, having left her own clothes behind. She booked by train from Whitchurch to Crewe on 2Lst instant, and said she was going to Chester or Manchester. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wem, Salop, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Boa- street, May 25, Stolen between 11 p. m. 11th and 4 a. m. 12th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Thomas Cassidy, New- street Burton- on- Trent: £ 4 10s. in Gold, 15 ' Lion Shillings, one Five Shilling Piece, one gold ( 22 carat) Dreas Ring, set with, four green stones and one Magenta stone ; a gold keeper Riug, with imitation buckle, rather worn ; a plain gold wed- ding Ring ; a pair of Boots; and a pair of Stockings. Bv JAMES ROONEY, alias KELLY, alias MORRIS I bricklayer's labourer, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches 2 POLICE G A Z E T T E, May 18 high, slight build, light hair, cut short, alight light- coloured moustache, and fa<; e very much sun burnt; dressed in a short j blue monkey jacket, corduroy trousers, cap with peak and lace- up boots, and is supposed to be a deserter from the 16th Brigade Royal Artillery. He; has a relative living in Marsh Lane, Walsall, and has some friends " at Coventry, where he is well known. £ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Mr. ( Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 22. Absconded on 12th instant, stealing £ 15 from Covent Garden Market : a man, 30 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches higb, sallow complexion, brown hair, slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in brown tweed suit, and round hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 22. Stolen between 12 p. m. 18th and 6 am. 19th instant, from the lodging- house of John Griffiths, Flint: a blue pilot cloth monkey Jacket; a pair of blue cloth Trousers; a red flannel Shirt ; a billycock Hat; a white Muffler ; and from 12s. to 15s. in Silver. By two men who had been lodging in the house, aud working at the reservoir, Flint, as navvies, one from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, pockmarked, sunburnt, small whiskers, brown hair, and has been a collier ; dressed in fustian trousers and dark coat. The other is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, pale complexion, dark hair, small scaxs on the lower part ot the jaw, and little or no whiskers; dressed in long fustian jacket, fustian waistcoat, with two rows of white buttons, and fustiam trousers. They are su . posed to coma from Merthvr Tydvil. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, North Wales, or to Sergeant Ward, Flint.— Bow- street, May 22. Description of WILLIAM LEACH, alias WELLS, who was discharged from the Royal North Gloucester Militia on 12th instant, and absconded from Cirencester on morning of 15th, charged with stealing various articles, which ( with the exception of two Shirts and a pair of Braces) have been recovered : he is supposed to be a coach painter from Bir- mingham, is 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches higb, light b'own hair, grey eyes, and fair complexion ; dressed in a speckled tweed jacket, dark trousers, torn at the bottom and recently seated, cloth cap, and a shirt marked ' No. 471 R N. G. M.' Information to be given to Mr, Superintendent Wood, Con- stabulary Office, Cirecencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a • warrant for his apprehension.— Saw- street, May 22. Absconded from Birmingham, charged under a warrant • with stealing a hand Cart and a Machine for making ice cream ( recovered), on 19th instant : LOUIS BOSTIANI, an Italian, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, slight black mous- tache, swarthy complexion, one tooth broken off in front, and has the appearance of a sailor; dressed in black clothes and half Wellington boots. Information to be given to Major Bond, Chief of Police, Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 22. Stolen on 18th instant, from a coalhouse belonging to the clergyman's house at Tanygrisian, Festiniog : a black mackintosh Coat, light colour iaside. little worn, black horn buttons, two of them missing, one at the top, the other from the middle, with marks of a pin having been used instead of the top button, pockets outside with flaps. Supposed by a tramp, about 16 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, and slender build ; dressed in dark cloth clothes, very ragged and dirty, old cap, and old boots, much too large for him. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Hughes, Towyn, or to Sergeant Jones, Fourcrosses, Festiniog, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, May 22. hair, sickly looking, slight figure; shabbily dressed in light clothes. Sir. Marshall gave him a shilling and signed his petition which was written on note paper. The man said he had lived at Ipswich, Norwich, and Diss, as a groom, aiid that he was discharged from Cambridge Hospital on 10th instant, which is false. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Smith, Ely, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension,— Bow- street, May 23. Description of a man who is travelling about the country obtaining Brass, Copper, Iron, Bottles, & c., under the false pretence that he is a traveller to a firm at Ipswich : about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light brown hair, no whiskers, sallow complexion, and small eyes of peculiar expression; dressed in a. slate- coloured cloth suit, blue pilot overcoat with velvet collar, and black chimney hat. Property found on him : a £ 5 Bank of Eng- land Note, No. T- 73 | 66551, Jan. 3rd, Manchester; £ 3 in Gold, 3s. Id. in Silver and Copper; a Watch, No. 7635, with gold Guard, a spade Guinea and Half- guinea attached ; a Purse, Pipe and Case, Knife, Toothbrsh, railway Key, watch Key, Matchbox, Comb, 2 penny receipt Stamps, a penny postage Stamp, a carriage Lamp, 12 prepared Cards and Card- case, 3 collars, pair of cuffs, 2 elastic Bands, a gold scarf Pin, and two half railway Tickets. JAMES HAMILTON, alias THOMAS BROOKS, is 37 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, light brown whiskers on chin and moustache, and very stout build; states he belongs to Thomas- street, Dublin ; dressed in a round black billycock hat, single- breasted black overcoat, brown tweed trousers, and elastic- side boots. He was convicted at Wolverhampton, along with two men named Turner and Bennett, in 1873 or 1874, for card sharping. Buck and Co., of Week- street, Maidstone, a Writing Desk, with secret drawer ; and a Cassell's Illustrated Bible, on 17th inst., by falsely pretending that he had been sent for them by Miss Maria Wells, of Rolvenden, Kent: he stated that he was Mr. Wells, is between 25 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slightly built, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, and slight whiskers; he was respectably dressed, and wore [ patent leather leggings. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 25. Description of WILLIAM WARREN, charged with endeavouring to procure 18s. iroea.
