He is a shoe- maker, but often works as a qnarryman WILLIAM KNOX, alias CURLEY KNOX, 51 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, black hair, inclined to curl, stout figure; dressed in old black cloth coat and vest, dark trousers. By a tramp, from 25 to 30 years of age, very stout, and face much freckkd ; dressed in dark coat or jacket, black vest, hard felt hat, and ( supposed) dirty cord trousers. Description of WILLIAM WILD, alias BLUE BILL, a drover, charged on a warrant with stealing a Sheep : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, pale com- plexion, blue or grey eyes, brown hair, no whiskers or mous- tache, and fat face; dressed in a groom's round jacket, low felt hat, and loose neckerchief. Tbe roan Gelding advertised iu the Police Gazette of 9th instant, as stolen from Odd Road, has been lound.— Bow- street, May 11. Stoleu on 8th instant, at Broadgrove, in the parish of Wetheral, Cumberland ; the property of Garnet Ronson, of Broadgrove, gardener : a dark bay mare Pony, clipped, 9 yrs. old, 14 hands high, long mane and tail, and small white spot on back. By ROBERT RONSON, 26 years of age, a gar- dener and native of Cumberland, 5 feet 6 inches high,, s war thy complexion, long face and large nose, dark eyes, black hair and whiskers, slight moustache, and slender figure. He lately lived at Bewcastie, Cumberland ; dressed in tweed suit, black felt hat, and when at Broadgrove had a red Militia tunic under his coat. Information to be given to Site County Chief Constable, Carlisle, or to Mr. Superintendent Sempill, Constabulary Office, Carlisle, Cumberland, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen on 14t, h ultimo, from a field at Roughcote, near Longton : a dark brown Filly, 3 years old, tail cut short, the property of Mr. Matthew Bullock. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving Buch information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender. JOHN VAUGHAN, advertised in the Police Gazette of 2nd instant, charged with stealing an Ass, has been appre- hended and committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions to be holden at Newtown iu June next. He has also Sold a light- 1 coloured gelding Ass iu this neighbourhood which is supposed to have been stolen. Absconded from Hastings on 4t, h instant, charged with, stealing a Donkey and Harness ( since recovered) : JAMES PIPER, alias RUSSELL, a bricklayer's labourer, about 25 ' years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark thin whiskers, slight moustache, thin face ; dressed in dark monkey | jacket, dirty cord trousers, and black round felt hat. He belongs to the Light. Infantry Militia. Information to be : given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, Sussex,— Bow- street, May 9. Stolen on 30th ultimo, from a field at Batman's Hill, Bradley : one dark brown Horse, 6 years old, 14 hands high, j bushy tail, lame of off fore leg, a little white ou off hftld foot! aud cut mark on the same, a little hair rubbed off the top of the neck, and in low condition. Stolen between 10.30 p. m. on lst instant, and 4 45 a m. on 2nd inst., from a stable at Windsor Castle Beer House, Brighton- road, Croydon : a bay Horse, clipped trace high, white star on forehead, near hind fetlock white, ring of white hair round neck near bead, long tail, and au awkward goer ; an old Spring Cart, painted brown, picked out with red, ' Benson, Brick and Tile Maker, Limpsfield,' on back and side ; and a set of old Harness, brass mounted reins, recently mended. — Metropolitan Police, W Division, May 7. Found at Overton, Flintshire, on lst instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a light cart Mare, in foal, aged, about 15 hands 3 inches high, brown with black points, aud a slight mark on the off knee. Stolen on 27th, ultimo, from Court, Farm, Sudbury, Harrow ; a bay* ^ K^ inioal, 6 years old, 14| hands high. b'ack legs, hair slightly off near eye, slight enlargement above off hind fetlock, shod in front, and very fat.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, May 4. Description of JAMES WOOD, of Hellingly, Sussex, charged with stealing a Horse ( since recovered) : 26 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches bigh, pale complexion, light eyes, thin face, rather prominent Roman nose, light brown hair and small whiskers, slight figure, he is a grocer, hut has recently been working with his father, who is a cattle and pig dealer; dressed in light brown coat, brown hard felt hat, short brown leather leggings, and elastic- side boots. He took a ticket on 2nd instant, from Etchingham to London Bridge, and stated that he was going to Australia, but it is supposed that he will remain some where iu the home counties. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bout- street, May 4. Stolen from a field at Deri Mill, near Cardiff, about 20th. ultimo; a bay Pony, with a small triangular white spot on forehead, fore legs a little over. £ 1 10s reward will be paid on the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hemingway, Cardiff, Glamor- ganshire.— Bow- street, May 2. LAJ& GKOTr AID Description of WILLIAM PLATT, who absconded from Kidsgrove, on 5th instant, charged with stealing £ 5 : about 43 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, tuft of black hair ou end of chin, rather round shoulders, and stoot s a little ; he is a Jabourer, but for several years has been employed, as au ostler ; dressed in old grey cloth jacket, dark cloth trousers, with small light stripe, old dark cloth vest, dirty grey cloth cap, with tassel on top, and clogs, the soles covered with leather. Information to be given to Ser- geant Macrony, Police Station, Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 11. Description of a man who has absconded from Middles- borough' charged with stealing a silver lever Watch from a dwelling- house on 9th instant, since recovered : from 40 to 45 years ol age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionate figure, brown whiskers round the face, no moustache, and blue eyes; dressed in black clotn cost, old dark vest., old drab striped cloth trousers, blue handkerchief with white spots round neck, black hard felt hat, and old elastic- side boots. States that he is a native of Bradford, and a labourer, but has worked lately in Newcastle and other places in the North of Euglaud. Supposed to be known at Brompton, near Northallerton. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, York.— Baw- ttraet, May 11. Description of ANNETTE PEGG, alias ANNIE PAGE, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 3 5s. at Cambridge on 8oh instant: 30 years of age, about 5 feet high, stout build, fair complexion, and oval faee ; dressed in black straw bonnet, trimmed with black lace and blue ribbon, and grey waterproof cloak. Had with her a bundle. She was formerly iu service at, Lowestoft, and has a relative living at Holt, Norfolk. Information to be given to Chief Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge, who holds the warrant tor her apprehension.— Bow- street, May 11. Absconded from Cefccoed, near Neath, on 8t, h iinstant, charged with embezzling several sums of money, of the overseers of Llanturt Lower : THOMAS GWILLIM, a rate collector, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark browu hair, grey eyes, aquiline nose, small blaek saort whiskers, well built, rather active appear- ance, a native of Neath ; usually dressed io a dark plaid suit, and black bowler hat. He will probably endeavour to emigrate. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent liowlett., County Constabulary, Neath, Glamorgan, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. - llow- sireet, May 11. Stolen from a lodging- house in Watergate- street, Tdti- stall, ou lst instant, : an imitation sealskin Vest, and ' a silk Handkerchief. Vest since recovered found pledged at Burslem, in the name of Thompson. By a man unknown about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow com- plexion, dark prominent eyes, slender build, a forgeman bv trade; dressed iu moleskin trousers and vest, bfaci cloth 2. Absconded from the borough of Middlesbrough, on 4th instant, charged with embezzlement: ROBT. BURTON, late watchman at Messrs. Fox, Head, and Go's., ironworks, 33 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, slight and loosely built, thin face, fair complexion, light brown hair, small ginger whiskers, blue eyes, a native of Dent., near Lancaster, a labourer, and has worked a deal about ironworks; dressed in a new shooting coat, made of brown and black mixture tweed cloth, slightly intermixed with yellow, trousers and vest of same mate!)- t, and a body hat. May have with him a suit of black clot'., and a working suit. He bas served iu the Sunderland, North Riding of York, North Eastern Railway, and Durham County Constabulary police forces, the latter which he left in March, 1876. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerscn, Police Office, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- tireei, May 11. Stolen from Quarry- street. Guildford, on lsfc instant : a strong well made painter's Hand Truck, painted green, picked out with white lines, wheels about 2 feet 6 inches in diameter, iron bound, size of body about 4 feet by 2 feet 6 inches, front and tail boards hung with strong iron hinges, wood handle, crutch top, name of ' H. Edmead,' burnt'in several parts, a spoke of one of the wheels a little out of repair. Supposed by a tall woman, good looking, and about 3a years of age. She is accompanied by three boys, ages 13, 16, and 17 years. They stop at common lodging- houses, and left Guildford on lst instant, for Dorking, having a hand truck then iu their possession. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Law, Borough Police Station, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- street, May 9. Description of FRANK WILSON, who absconded from Middlesborough, charged with stealing a glazier's Diamond on the 27th ultimo ( recovered) : he is a painter, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, slight light mous- tache, round face, and proportionate make; a native of Darlington ; dressed in a black topcoat, dark mixture cloth trousers, and billycock bat. Information to ba given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest..— Bono- street, May 9. Absconded from Denbigh on 29th ultimo, charged with stealing a quantity of Barley; the propertv of Mr. John Armor : THOMAS DAVIS, alias TOM LAMPLIGHTER, 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, with grey hair, • whiskers turning grey, and of dirty appearance ; dressed in old corduroy trousers, old brown vest, a short blue serge jacket with pockets outside, and old billycock hat. Ha was seen going into Carnarvon on lst instant, in company with a shorter and younger man. Most likely he will try for work on railways or slate quarries in Merioneth or Carnarvon. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Tudge, Police Office, Denbigh.— Bow- street, May 9. < Absconded on 2nd instant, embezzling £ 20 from Commercial Wharf, Commercial- read, Lambeth: a man, 35 years of age, ruddy complexion, sandy hair and whickers : dressed in cord trousers, and smock frock, a coal porter. — Metropolitan Police, L Division, May 9. Absconded on 16th ultimo, from 160, Oxford- street, Marylebone, embezzling £ 57 10s. : a man, 44 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in black froi; k coat, dark trousers, black billycock hat. Has been residing at Ferry Cottage, Twickenham, likely to visit Derby, Scarborough, or Birmingham, was supposed to have been in the latter place on 27th ultimo.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, Mat) 9. Absconded on 6th instant, from 21, Percy- street, Saint Panel as, stealing a blue- black Overcoat, velvet collar : a woman, 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches higb, fair complexion, and long nose; dressed in black dress, light tblue waterproof cloak, and black bonnet. A domestic servan.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, May 9. Absconded on 5th instant, charged under a warrant with embezzling various sums of money belonging to his employers, Messrs. Cotton and Marks, jewellers,& c., 72, Parade, Birming- ham : HARRIS RETENBERG, a traveller in watches and jewellery, who took with him about £ 300 worth with which he was entrusted to sell, is of Jewish descent, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, small brown whiskers and moustache, proportionate figure ; dressed respectably. Has with him a hawking licence issued in Birmingham. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bond, Police Office, Birmingham.— Bow- st., May 9. Absconded from Birmingham on 5t, h instant, charged under a warrant with embezzliug various sums of Money belonging to his employer, Louis Barnett, jeweller, & c. : HENRY BIRNBAUM, a traveller in jewellery, & c , 20 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, black curly hair, no whiskers, slight moustache, and pale complexion; dressed respectably in dark clotheB. He took wit a him three Watches with which he was entrusted to sell, viz, a silver English lever, No. 87755 ; a Boston Lever, No. 7286; and a Geneva, No. 21027. Information to be given to Major Bond, Chief of Police, Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 9. Description of a Welshman, a moulder by trade, who absconded on 26th ultimo, from No. 3, Shepherd- street, New Swindon, stealing £ 6 15s., the Moneys of two fellow- lodgers : ha is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark com- plexion, brown hair and eyes, a little whiskers, moustache and imperial, and shaves the sides of his chin ; dressed in a dark pilot coat, dark woollen trousers and waistcoat to match, lace- up boots, tipped and nailed ( nearly new), walks badly and generally with his hands iti his pockets, a native of South Wales, and carries moulder's tools about with him. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, May 9. Absconded on 28th ultimo, from 92, Hutton Garden, St. Andrew's, embezzling £ 60: a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair, beard and moustache, nearly bald on top of head, hair combed back, two carbuncles between eyes, and two moles on right side of face ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, black suit under, high hat. He is a Polish Jew, speaks French well, and lately resided at 9, Castle- street East, Oxford- street.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, May 7. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Baker, Prestwood- road, Heath Town, builder, about 5' 30 p m. on 3rd instant: a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; a gold eonsula lever Watch, enamel dial, seconds finger, open- face, not capped. No. 15591, maker Cattaneo, Stockton- on- Tees.; a silver Guard, common link pattern; a blue diagonal cloth Vest, double breasted, no collar ; a cotton pocket Handker- chief, red ground with white spots ; a pair of elastic- Bide Boots, repaired on side of soles ; a spring tape Measure, about 8 feet long, in brass case. By ALFRED ARCHER ROPER, who was employed as groom and gardener, a native of Walsall, St afford shire, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, light brown curly hair, parted down middle, grey eyts, small light whiskers and moustache, walks very erect, aad has a smart military appearance; dressed in snuff- coloured Chesterfield overcoat, two outside pockets with flaps, vest either dark grey cloth with black. stripes, or the blue stolen one, supposed to be wearing two pairs of Trousers, one black clotb, and the other light woollen cord, the woollen cord had been sewn in up the back to make them less, he had two woollen shirts, one grey, and the other light colour, both had been mended with calico, blue silk tie, with white spots, or a black one, a small hard black felt hat, and the stolen boots ; was dis- charged about 2 months ago from the 14th Hussars, iu Irelaud, iu which Regiment he said he had served 12 years ; he has relatives in Walsall, Staffordshire.
