Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, "> the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. INFORMATIONS. MTTRDEB, AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man who on 29th ultimo, called at No. 12, Fairlight- terrace, Lausanne- road, Nunhead, under pretence of looking at apartments, and inflicted a number of wounds on the head and face of the housekeeper, with some sharp instrument, took from a bedroom a small cable pattern gold albert ChaiD, key attached, set with light coloured stone, and then left the house : about 35 years of age, middle height, fresh complexion, oval features, full dark beard ; dressed in dark pilot coat, dark trousers, black soft felt hat, wore rings. During the night of 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Littleton Woodhoase, Garratt's- lane, Old Hill, Rowley regis, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a child's red Cloak and Frock, of French merino, lined with white calico, and not finished in the making; six white Holland Pinafores, with tape to tie round the neck ; two linen Collars; a gold Albert Chain, single link, back band pattern ;. a geid Saal, with stone in centre attached, one side of stone green, the other red; a stiver Watch, No. 14782, jewelled in 2 holes, with white dial and steel hands, seconds hand sunk in dial. On the night of 13th instant the dwelling- house of Mrs. Mary Upham, Ash Mill, roseash, Devon, wns broken and entered and stolen therein : 1 ham of Pork, taken from the salt pickle ; 1 piece of Bacon; 1 sweet Cake ; 1 lb. of Butter; and two pieces of Loaf. Stolen by means of house- breaking from Bray, Berks, on 10th instant: a dark cloth cord Jacket, pockets outside, velvet collar, and black lining ; a black aud white check woollen cloth Vest, no collar, and buttons up to the throat ; a pair of black and white woollen cloth Trousers ; a pair of polished Horse Hoofs, made up as pin cushion, with red velvet, and trimmed with white lace and green bows ; and a small Bible, ' Harriet Howse, 1857,' written inside. Marsters' with date; a hair Sing, set in gold, with ) arg< » garnet; and a very large quaint gold ring, containing hair, with three gold letters, believed to. bo ' J, H. K.' on it. Information to be given to Head Constable Ware, King's Lynn, Norfolk.-— Bow- street, April 13. Further information respecting the robbery at the house of Mr. B. Smith, at Houghton regis, advertised in Police Gazette of 4th instant: two men were seen loitering about the neighbourhood about 12 noon on the day in question, supposed to have come from London by train. One about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a light grey suit ( apparently new), and a felt hat. The other about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in long black cloth coat, velvet collar, black silk hat. Had the appearance of a preacher. Infor- mationfto be given to Mr. Superintendent Tydeman, County Police Station, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, April 13. Between 6 and 8 p. m. on lst instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Heals, of Highfield, Hempstead, was entered by some person, and stolen therein : a small round face Clock, in bronze case ; a grey tweed Coat, with side pockets ; and a pair of side- spring Boots, toe- capped, nearly new. Description of WILLIAM FREEMAN, of Wem, charged with stealing a Calf at Middle, on 10th ultimo : he is 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches bigh, stoops a little,, has a shuffling walk, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; sometimes deals in calves and pigs, and frequents fairs with cow dealers ; he was dressed in dark mixture clothes, low hard hat, and snuff- coloured overcoat. He booked from Wem to Birmingham on 19th ultimo, and had with him ttireo boxes and a feather bed, and stated he should go into the butchering or dealing line at Birmingham or Wolverhampton. Information to be given to Sergeant Gough, Oswestry, Salop, or to Police Constable ( 87) Lyndon, Baschurch, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- itreet, April 20. Stolen since 10th instant, from Leigh House, near Chard : a dark brown mare Donkey, with white hairs ou back, is in good condition. Information to be given to Mr. Superinten- dent Gerity, Ilminster, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, April 20. Description of THOMAS JAMES, alias CURIOUS, charged on a wairant with stealing ou 14th instant, at Clewor : a bay Mare, Carriage, and Harness, the property of James Blackman. He is a cabdriver, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, slight moustache, thin figure, and of sharp appearance ; dressed in tweed mixture suit, high hat, and a coloured silk neckerchief tied in double bow. The mare is dark bay, 10 years old, hunter breed, little white on front of one of fore legs, and little white, ou the mouth. Four wheeled chaise, chocolate colovr on the body, which is very narrow, wheels dark green aud very low, grating on the steps, and Victoria head. Harness is brass plated, Bridle silver plated, and a false collar. He is likely to be found at races plying for hire. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer, who holds a warrant for bis apprehension.— Bow- st., April Absconded from Warrington, charged with stealing a Pony and Cart, atd a quantity of Fish, the property of Thomas Shovelton and Thomas Hughes, fish dealers ; the pony and cart and a portion of the fish have been recovered: THOMAS PENNINGTON, under police supervision for stealing a pony and cart, at Salford, convicted Oct. 25, 1875, and sentenced to 12 calendar months imprisonment and 3 years police supervision, 22 vears of age, 5 feet 4 inchea high, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, slight build, oval face, a native of Salford, and a hawker. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lan- cashire.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen since 5th instant, from St. Ann's road, Tottenham: a thorough bred chestnut Mare, 14J hands high, 6 years old, and has been fired in both hocks ; a set of old plated Harness ; and a dark green Newport Pagnell Cart. — Metro- politan Police, N Division, April lt>. Stolen between 7 p. m. 9th and 6' 30 a. m. on 10th inst., from a stable at Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks : a chesnut Horse, 5 years old a little over, 16 hands high, rather narrow white stripe down face, a snip in the near nostril, and the marks of two stitches where the nostril had been sewn, aud hind legs white midway from hoof to hock ; also two old Horse Cloths, brown, which have been mended ; Boiler, Headstall, and. Reins. £ 20 reward will be paid for such informaton as shall lead to the recovery of the horse and the conviction of tho offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Drake, Aylesbury, or to Mr. Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- st., April 16. Description of a man absconded from Alfreton, charged with stealing on 28th ultimo, at Pinxton, the property of Martha Chadburn, a grey Filly, which he sold ou tbe same date at Nottingham, recovered : he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ruddy complexion, slight light moustache, speaks slowly and simply ; dressed in black cloth troupers and waistcoat, brown overcoat with velvet collar and wore a cap. Stolen from Pelsall Common, duriog the night of 2 POLICE GAZETTE. - April 20 Sth instant: an iron grey Filly, 14 hands high, rising 3 years • old, white tail, right side lighter thau left, in fair condition. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hill, Brownhill. or Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 13. Found in a field at Atcham, about three weeks ago, sup- posed stolen : three young Sheep ( one ewe and two wethers), of the Shropshire Down Dreed, and no marks visible., Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Howells, County Constabulary Office, Shrewsbury, or to Police Constable Cain ( 62), Atcham, Salop,— Bow- ttreet, April IS. Stolen between 9 p. m. 9th and 6 a. m. on 10th instant, from a stable : a black Horse, about 16 hands high, white hind legs, white ring on the off fore foot, mark from a kick on the off foreleg, several small white spots on the body, and long legged; a pair of leather Traces, flat; a Bridle, with curb bit, brass mounted ; a pair of low Hames, painted dark blue; a collar and c^ pea Crupper. A boy was seen riding a Horse of the above description along the canal side, in the direction of Middleton, at about 3 am. on 10th instaat. £ 2 reward will be paid by the owner for the apprehension of the offender or offenders and recovery of the' Horse and Harness. Naylor, late Woolley, St. James's street, Brighton '; he is a butler. '• Information to be given to Chief Constable Crowhurst, Brighton, . Sussex.— Btm- st^ April 20. Stolen on 16t, h instant, from a farm house at Mickleby, between 4 and 6. aim}, the property of Thomas Linton and others : a blue pilot cloth Topcoat, nearly new, lined with striped lining, two pockets outside, and, one inside left breast, double- breasted, . and. black house. buttons, youth's size; a brown double- breasted sleeved Waistcoat, brown ctrd front, jean sleeves and back, nearly new ; a black and white check cloth Vest; and an old imitation sealskin Cap. By a man, 20 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, stout build, fresh Complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, and a native of Scotland; dressed in stolen clothes and, cap, and was wearing a pair of old strong boots, much t o long gfor him and cracked across the fronts. Generally seeks employment amongst farmers, and was traced to Burniston, near Scarboroughron the 16th instant. Absconded from Watford, on 16th instant,, embezzling .£ 200, belonging to his employer, Mr. H. Kingham, of Wat- ford : HENRY SPICER, 30 years of age ( looks older), about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark bair, thick bushy wb. skers, brown eyes, fresh completion, he is a grocer's traveller, has bunions on feet, is splay- fdoted, and slightly round shouldered. Absconded from Bolton, charged with stealing a Clock, from a beer- house, on 17th instant, ( since recovereo) : a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9| inches high, long features, sallow complexion, no whiskews or moustache, tattooed on each arm with star, ship, & c.; dressed in blue cloth jacket, two pockets outside with flaps over, dark vest, rather light coloured trousers, cloth cap with peak, white collar, black neckerchief, tied in a sailor's knot, and shoes; has the appearance Of a sailor. Information to be given to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- st., April 20. Description of THOMAS HARGREAVES, charged on a warrant with stealing a quantity of Ware at Tunstal on 12th instant: he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, slender build, smart active appearance, fair moustache, small hands and feet; dressed in light tweed jacket, woollen cord trousers, and tweed hat. He is a potter bj trade, and most likely may, make for Leeds, as he has wtrked there some years ago. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Harston, Tunstall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, April 20. Description of WILLIAM KNIGHT, alias MACCLES- FIELD BILL, charged on warrant with stealing on 29th ultimo- at Tividale : a chestnut, horse Pony, and set of boat horse Hare ess; the property of Isaac Evans ( see Police Gazette of 18th instant) • he is about 60 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, turning grey, grey eyes, broad features, slightly pockpitted, pimples on face and nose, blue marks on one. cheek, suppijsecl ou right, cut mark across nose, which is broad and cocks tip a little at point, small whiokersand scrubby beard, turring grey, lather bowed in one leg, and shuffling gait ; dressed in old pilot coat, dark vest, dirty cord trousers, Woollen muffler, dirty greasy worsted cap all in one piece, and blucher boots. He is a native of Macclesfield, and is a boatman. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wollaston, Brierly Hill, Staffordshire, Or to Police Constable Given, Tividale, near Tipton, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for bis apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, April 20. Stolen from the bedroom of Samuel Turner, 16, Wat- ville- street, Handsworth : 1 pair black cloth Trousers, nearly new, lined with swansdown. pockets at the top and bound with coloured striped binding ; 1 black cloth double- breasted Waistcoat, watch pocket on left side and black cloth buttons By a man who lodged in the house oa night of 13th instant, who represented that he was about to be employed by a large firm in the neighbourhood as a moulder or boiler maker ; he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, brown complexion and hair, slightly pitted with smallpox, scar on one' cheek, full eyes, slightly bloodshot, brown mous- tache and imperial; dressed in black cloth jacket, moleskin trousers and" vest, black soft billycock hat, aud elastic- side boots. A man answering the description of the above is sus- pected of committing similar robberies under similar circum- stances : at Tipton, two ; Darlaston, two ; Oldbury, two ; Burton- on- Trent, one; and Pelsall, one. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Woollaston, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Whitehurst, Handsworth, Birmingham, War- wickshire.— Bow- ttreet. April 18. Absconded from Ipswich, on 16th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing 140 lbs, of Coals, the property of Robt. Stevenson and others: CHARLES HUGHES, about 25yrs. of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, very thin light whiskers, dark brown hair, rather round shoulders. Has been driving a coal cart, and is a native of Sudbury, Suffolk, where he has friends residing.
