Stolen from the person at Loughborough Steeple Chases, en 16th instant: A gold duplex Watch, with second's hand, gold dial, which is slightly engraved, No. 92957. A gold lever Watch, maker's name Richardson, London, No. 9063 or 90013. A silver Jever Watch, no maker's name upon it, dial slightly cracked between the figures 10 and 11, No. 14023 or 14025. Stolen from tbe person during the Races, at Lincoln, on 19th, 20th, and 21st instant : a silver lever Watch, with ' J. Description of WILLIAM ALLSOP, charged with stealing a £ 50 Bank of England Note, from the person of John Nadin, at Leek, on 21st ultimo ; he is a stonemason, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, turning grey, no whiskers, rather stout built; dressed in light clothes, and sammy hat; fie is well known at Birmingham, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, and Nottingham, and may probably be seeking work as a stonemason. The note is dated Manchester, 4th January, 1875, No. 52494. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Born- street, March 21. Stolen in Ipswich on 17th instant, from tbe person of Walter Meadows : a silver Geneva hunting Watch, No. 3212, seconds hand off and the glass out. Between 8 p. m. on 8th, and 2 a. m. on 9th instant, the Union Workhouse at Berwick- upon- Tweed, was burglariously entered and stolen therein : three pairs of woollen Drawers, recovered; two white cotton Shirts, man's aiza, with linen fronts and holes at neck and breast for studs ; and a plain cotton Shirt. By JAMES CARROLL, alias JAMIE DONEGAL, labourer, native of county Donegal, Ireland, but has resided about the South of Scotland, and North of England for many years : be is about 53 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 11^ inches high, stoutly made, auburn hair, ginger whiskers, generally shaved on upper lip; dressed in dark clothes, old and ragged, one of the stolen shirts, and odd boots, one being a navvy boot, the other a common lacing boot; he has been in the Union Workhouse Hospital, Berwick- on- Tweed, several times, with sores on his legs, and the attention of the Police is directed to Poorhouses, Worfv- houses, or Hospitals, where he will try to get admission ; he is a returned convict, and has been convicted of larceny in Northumberland, borough of Berwick, and county of Ber- wick. Information to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed, Northumberland, who holds a warrant and will pay £ 1 reward and all expenses on his apprehension. A photograph may be had if necessary.— Bow- st., March 29. Between 12 30 and 7 a. m. on 24th instant, the house of the Rev. John Slatter, Streatley, Berks, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two outer paletot Coats, Oxford mixture, pockets on hips, one marked inside of collar with a parchment label; a thick waterproof - Melton Coat, three Umbrellas, one lady's, ivory handle ; a Purse, containing 17s.; also 30s. in Money ; Is. 6d jworth of Stamps, a packet of Post Cards, 8 or 10 old china Cups, Saucers, aud Basins, Tops of Mustard and Pepper Pots, Mustard Spoons, two silver Salt Cellars and Spoons; two bunches of gold Seals, some with crest— eagle out of coronet, same with arms and same crest, and one or two plain, one with pea shell open, and motto ' all is discovered', and one of them a large white camelian, quite plain ; a Beam Compass, of German silver, with silver bar, with ^ divisions '' and bead screw; a lady's mother- o'- pearl Card- case; a Caddy Spoon ; a Box of Mathematical Drawing Instruments, about 7 inches square; a Microscope and a Telescope; and| i| eilver Toast Rack, with one rail broken at foot. A reward of £ 5 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Between 6 30 and 8 30 p. m. on 25th instant, a house at Luton was broken and entered, aud stolen therein : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' W. S. S.;' a silver Eorlc and Dessert Spoon, marked ' S. B.;' a silver Punch Ladle, marked ' G.;' twelve silver Forks ; ten silver Spoons, four Vegetable, two Gravy, two Mustard, two Salt; afid an old- fashioned gold Chain. During the night of 23rd inst., the booking office and store room at Purfleet Railway Station were broken into, and eight boys' blue serge Slops, lined inside cuffs with a narrow stripe of yellow striped cloth or braid, stolen therefrom. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, March 28. Between 11 p. m. on 23rd, and 7 a. m. oil 24th, the house of Mrs. Ann England's, Church- street, Driffield, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 54676 ; a gold keeper Ring, ' M. S.'; and a small old- fashioned Work Box, containing various small Articles. WILLIAM CHESTER alias ' LINKEY BILL,' a wold ranger, is in custody on suspicion. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent ilarper, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Maxell 26. Stolen between 10 p. m. on 19th and 6 a. m. 20lh instant, from the dwelling- house of Rd. Ley, of South Molton, by means of burglary : several pounds of Cooked Beef ; If lbs. of Butter, and other Eatables ; 3 Tea Cloths, two marked with red cross bars; a crumb Cloth, marked ' R. Ley, No. 6'; and a silver Mustard Spoon, with crest— a lion setting, marked ' E. P.' Information to be given to Superintendent Fisher, Police Station, South Molton, Devonshire. - Bow- street, March 23. During the night of 2Qth instant, the house of Mr. Robt. Maynard, at Whittlesford, Cambs., was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : two grey Overcoats, one nearly new, the other much worn, and has a piece of sealing wax upon the lining of each sleeve ; two dark blue Overcoats, one has a stain down the front, and velvet collar, the other astrakaa collar ; a white woollen Scarf; two Umbrellas, one of which has a bore handle ; a large woollen Shawl, black ground, with alternate stripes of black, and grey and black, fringed at edges; a dozen plated Knives and Forks, marked ' H. A. B.' in monogram ; a lady's Companion, with fittings; a small Stanhope Microscope ; a magnifying Glass, about 2 inches over; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, supposed marked ' M. D. M.'; a p. ated moi3t sugar Scoop ; two pairs of Spectacles, one wi. h silver frames, the other steel ; a small Bag, containing about 2s. 6d. in bronze money; and a small pair of opera Glasses in case. Supposed to have been by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, Police Station, Linton, Cambs.— Bow- street, March 23. Between 11 p. m. on 16th, and 8 a m. on 17lh instant, tbe ' Barley Mow' inn, Little Sutton, near Birmingham, was burglariously broktn and entered, and stolen therein : about £ 5 in Gold aud Silrer, and 2 Wills, one by Thomas Pinder, Senior, and the other by Thomas Pinder, junior. Supposed by a man, about 18 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, and clean shaved ; dressed in dark clotles, and wore a dark overcoat. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Gallaway. Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham.— Sow- street, March 21. the Mare. BENJAMIN BIRCH, who is also charged, has absconded : he is a native of Headless Cross, near Redditch, and is from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and complexion, pockpitted, and has the two top front teeth out. He is brother- in- law to the two Smiths, who are gipsies. Birch travels the country with a truck, with low sides and. tilt on, and deals in Bath bricks, pegs, & c, also in horses for the knackers yard. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to Acting Inspector Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, March 28, Stolen on 27th ultimo, from Spring Grove Park, Wrib- benhall. near Bewdley : a brown Horse ( since recovered) by JABEZ LOACH, native of Bromsgrove, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5£ inches high, sallow complexion, black hair and whiskers, grey eyes, mole on right cheek, left breast and left shoulder ; dressed in a black jacket, pockets outside of skirt, black vest, cord trousers ( old), and hard billycock hat, and has a brother living at Dudley, and another living at Pens- nett, near Dudley. Charged on a warrant with stealing one pair of Drawers, two Sheets, and one boy's Shirt ( recovered), from Wellington- street, Aldershot, on 16th instant; the property of Ernest i Munday : ELIZABETH BAKER, domestic servant, 15 | years oi age, dark brown hair, dark hazel eyes, dark com- I plexion, round full face, and stout build ; dressed in light , brown bonnet, trimmed with dark brown terry velvet, grey I waterproof cloak, brown linsey dress, trimmed with black I braid, gold ear- drops, oval shape, with small ball at the bottom. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Stephenson, EUats Constabulary, Aldershot, who holds a warrant for fc R; pprehension.— Bow- straet,- March 29. Stolen on 24th instant, between 8 a. m. and 4 p. m., from i the house of George Wilson, Sawdon Nabb, Egton : a pair of Blucher Boots, newly soled, heel aud toe plates; and a pair of watertight Boots, nearly new, small nails in bottom and lisel and toe piates, man's size. By, a man, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, and slender make; dressed in a | grey or drab long top coat, black billycock hat turned up at ' sides, dark trousers, and old light boots. He'was traced to the ' Jolly Sailor' Inn, near Moorsholm, where he offered the stolen boots for sale. States he belongs to Ryhope, near Sunderland, but supposed to be a native of Newcastle- upon- Tyne. information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 2 9 Absconded on 19th instant, from the Cirencester Union, charged on a warrant with stealing two suits of workhouse Clothes, viz., one dark grey Jacket, black bone buttons ; two pairs of cord Trousers, two cord Vests, oue sack or Overcoat, ! lighter grey with one button, two Shirts, two pair of Stockings, two pair of new lace- up Boots, nailed, one black billycock Hat, one suit marked ' No. 1,' the other marked ' No. 22, Cirencester Union,'' 22' stamped on tbe clothes, ' No.' written with pen and marking ink: GEORGE JONES, a labourer, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, walks upwright, I light brown hair, little or no whiskers ; supposed to be wear- ing one of the stolen suits, as he left his own clothes in the union. He belongs to the Royal North Gloucester Militia, and is supposed to ha ve a brother now residing at No. 9, Lon- vaine- street, Ben Johnsons- fields, Stepney, London. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Wood, Con- stabulary Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bcrw- street, March 29. Description of a man charged with stealing six Sovereigns, from the dwelling- house of Mr. James Powell, of Hagley, on 26th instant : he is about 25 years of age) 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, small sandy whiskers and mous- tache, and round full face , dressed in brown mixture coat and trousers, imitation tealskin vest, and black hard hat walks upright, sometimes carries a black top coat, with large buttons, and a walking stick ; represents that he is a land measurer. Supposed to be the same man that is charged in Monmouthshire and Montgomeryshire with similar offences. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Cope, Shire Hall, Hereford.— Bow- street, March 29. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing six Sovereigns, the property of William Freemam, of Billings- hurst: ELIZABETH PIERCE, alias DAVIS, 31 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thin face, and dark mole on left cheek ; dressed in a shabby black dress, grey ulster cloak with belt, and black hat. She is well known at Poplar, Greenwich Police Court and Rotherhithe. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham. Bow- street, March 28. Description of ZACHARIAH SKUSE, charged with larceny as the bailee of a Donkey and Cart at Tiverton on 21st instant : he is about 36 years of stge, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers and moustache, has lost the top of one of his fingers, and suffers from sores on his le^ s • had on a brown coat, too.. large for him, short brown slop underneath, cord trousers, black and white scarf, soft billy- cock hat, and heavy nailed boots. Is a native of Corsham 2 POLICE GAZETTE. 1 March 29 Wilts, and served 10 years in the 18th " Foot, from which he • was discharged about 3 years ago. The Donkey and Cart have been recovered, having beea sold by Skuse at Newton, St. Loe, near Bristol, on the day he obtained it. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Bath, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion,.— Bow- street, March 28. Absconded on 12th instant, charged with stealing, as a bailee, two old silver verge Watches, one has a common pin for a rivet in the bow. Heenan and Sayers in a fighting attitude painted on the face, the other has been repaired in- side the case with solder. JOHN A. COOPER, a tramping printer, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, hair turning grey, bushy whiskers round face and mous- tache, stout build, bow- legged, and throws out left foot when walking ; dressed in a suit, of dark cloth clothes, much worn, hard black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Belengs to Bury St. Edmund's, and will call on stationers and printers. He pawned the first watch in Hull, and he is making for the north. A warrant is issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, County Police Station, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen from the Bull's Head public- house, Dartford, about 7 a. m. on 23rd instant : a pair of enamelled knee Boots, one boot has a patch on the heel; and a pair of boys lace- up Boots ; by a man about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, and dark complexion and hair ; dressed in black coat, pockets at hips, buttons off behind, brown felt hat, and old grey trousers. He says he is a baker, and visits shops in search of work. He is supposed to be making his way to Chatham. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bono- street, March 26. Stolen from a workshop in Oldham, between 6 p. m. on 22nd and 6 a. m. on the 23rd instant : a blue nap cloth Overcoat, velvet collar ( which was loose), pocket inside left breast, two large pockets and one small outside, trimmed • with black ribbed cloth buttons, and lined with black Italian cloth ; a dark mixture tweed cloth single- breasted Shooting Jacket, two pockets outside, trimmed with pearl buttons; two pairs of fancy cloth Trousers, black ground, white speckled, peach stripe, fly fronts, lined with fine twill calico, bound in at the top, plain buttons ; a pair of grey and brown striped cloth Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twill calico, trimmed with black iron buttons; and a pair of grey, red, and black check cloth Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twill calico, trimmed with black horn buttons. By ARTHUR MARSH, a tailor, who has worked in the shop, 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, dark moustache, and walks erect; probably will be wearing some of the stolen property. He was, in May 1870, convicted of larceny from the person at Surrey Sessions, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude, aud was liberated from prison in March 1876. A reward of £ 1 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender, and recovery the pro- perty. Information to be given to tbe Chief Constable, Town Hall, Oldham, Laucashire.— Bovi- strezt, March 26. Stolen from a hut at Sproston, in the county of Chester, on the night of 16th instant: two Billhooks, one marked ' T. V.' on blade; also a dirty old drab Slop, with two rows of buttons on the right side, patched in several places, and hard worn in front; and a fish- skin Glove. The hut was sot on fire by the offenders. Also stolen from George Robinson's cottage at Rudheath, in the same county, on 19th instant, about 2 p. m. : a black cloth Vest, a pair of light coloured cloth Trousers, and a pair of light lace- up Boots ( men's size) with brass lace holes. Supposed by two men, 17 or 18 years of age, 5 fee. t 2 or 3 inches high, and very dirty appearance ; one has dark hair, the other has red hair and a pug nose ; ona wore a cap and narrow toed clogs, the other a billycock hat, and boots or shoes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, Cheshire. - Bow- Street, March 26. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: HENRY SCHOLES, late of Bury St. Edmund's, commission agent, 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, moustache dyed black, blue eyes, fresh complexion, one leg much larger tban the other, limps a little, aud has a slouching walk; dressed in dark undercoat, light trousers, high black hat, and a very loDg plaid overcoat, which has a black velvet collar. Information to be given to Inspector Balls, Stowmarket, Suffolk, — BorfWreet, March 26. Stolen between 8 a m. and 5 p. m. on 23rd instant, from a clothes line at Stirchley : a pair of moleskin Trousers, much worn, lined with white cotton twill, and double lined at the bottom with unbleached calico, the property of Joseph Walford. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet € or 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed ia dark clothes, billycock hat or cap. Wa » seen going in the direction of Shifnal about 3 pm. same day. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Higgina, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, March 26. Stolen sometime between 8 p. m. and 12 midnight, on 20th instant, from the dwelling house of Joseph Crompton, Over Hulton : a black leather Satchel, lined with red morocco leather, inside pocket torn, containing between £ 50 and £ 60 in Gold and Silver, and a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. 7354608. Supposed by two men of the following description, one abqut 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark beard, stout build ; dressed in black billycock, and dark overcoat. The other about 21 years of age, 5 fe « t 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Station, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 26. Absconded on 10th instant,, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: CHARLES JAMES BALL, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, slight black hair ( cut close, parted in centre), moustache and whiskers ; dressed in brown and blue ulster coat, tight fitting trousers, and low brown hat, of sporting appearance, and generally carries a thin bamboo cane with crooked haudle. Stolen on 14t, h instant, from the dwelling- house of Wm. Handley, of Tipton Green, Tipton : a pilot monkey Jacket, with two pockets on hips, and one inside breast pocket. By a man, who had lodged at the house during the night, Bup- poBed to be an engine tender by trade, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, dark eyes, stout build, black moustache and imperial; dressed in old grey jacket and waistcoat, dirty moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots, with brass eyelet- holes.
