Stolen from the person during the races, at Lincoln, on 19th, 20th, and 21st instant ; a silver lever Watch, with ' J. Merrill' engraved on inside case, near the key- hole; a gold lever Watch, with initials ' A. G. C.' and crest on case, also ' A. N. S. C.' on the works ; a gold patent lever Watch, old fashioned case, new works, No. 40256. Information to be given to Chief Constable, Mansell, City Police Office, Lincoln.— Bow- strait, March 23, Description of WILLIAM ALLSOP, charged with stealing a £ t0 Bank of England Note, from the person of John Nadin, at Leek, on 21st ultimo ; he is a stonemason, about 46 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, turning grey, no whiskers, rather stout built; dressed in light clothes, and sammy hat; he is well known at Birmingham, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, and Nottingham, and may probably be seeking work as a stonemason. The note is dated Manchester, 4th January, 1875, No, 52494. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, March 21. Stolen in Ipswich on 17th instant, from the person of Walter Meadows : a silver Geneva hunting Watch, Ne. 3212, seconds hand off and the glass out. Stolen between 10 p. m. on 19th and 6 a. m. 20th instant, from the dwelling- house of Rd. Ley, of South Molton, by means of burglary : several pounds of Cooked Beef ; If lbs. of Butter, and other Eatables ; 3 Tea Cloths, two/ marked with red cross bars; a crumb Cloth, marked ' R. Ley, No._ 6'; and a silver Mustard Spoon, with crest— a lion setting, marked ' E. P.' Information to be given to Superintendent Fisher, Police Station, South Molton, Devonshire. - Bow- street, March 23. During the night of 20th instant, the house of Mr. Robt. Maynard, at Whittlesford, Cambs,, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein : two grey Overcoats, one nearly new, the other much worn, and has a piece of sealing wax upon the lining of each sleeve ; two dark blue Overcoats, one has a stain down the front, and velvet collar, the other astrakan collar ; a white woollen Scarf ; two Umbrellas, one of which has a bone handle ; a large woollen Shawl, black ground, with alternate stripes of black, and grey and black, fringed at edges ; a dozen plated Knives and Forks, marked ' H. A. B.' in monogram ; a lady's Companion, with fittings ; a small Stanhope Microscope; a magnifying Glass, about 2 inches over; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, supposed marked ' M. D. M.'; a plated moist sugar Scoop ; two pairs of Spectacles, one with silver frames, the other steel; a small Bag, containing about 2s. 6d. in bronze money; and a small pair of opera Glasses in case. Supposed to have been by tramps. Information to be given to Superintendent Long, Police Station, Linton, Cambs.— Bow- street, March 23. Between 11 p. m, on 16th, and 8 a, m, on 17th instant, the ' Barley Mow' inn, Little Sutton, near Birmingham, was burglariously broken and entered, and stolen therein : about in Gold and Silver, and 2 Wills, ona » by Thomas Pinder, Senior, and the other by Thomas Pinder, Junior. Supposed by a man, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches higb, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, and clean shaved ; dressed in dark clothes, and wore a dark overcoat. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham..— Bm- street, March 21. Between 12 p. m. and 1' 30 a. m. on 17th instant, a house at Rugeley, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a brown cloth Jacket, with velvet collar, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast; a dark blue Jacket, lined with red flannel, two pockets inside, and two outside on hips, much worn ; a soft black billycock Hat; a red and white plaid Muffler; and a bundle Handkerchief, Union Jack pattern. Inform ation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Oawell, Stafford, or to Sergeant Chaplain, Rugeley, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, March 19. Between 6 30 and 8 30 p. m. on 25th instant, a house at Luton was broken and entered, and stolen therein : six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' W. S. S.;' a silver Fork and Dessert Spoon, marked ' S. B.;' a silver Punch Ladle, marked ' G.;' twelve silver Forks ; ten silver Spoons, four Vegetable, two Gravy, two Mustard, two Salt; and an old- fashioned gold Chain, Information to be given to Head Constable Jaquest, Luton, Beds.— Bow- street, March 28. During the night of 23rd inst,, the booking office and store room at Purfleet Railway Station were broken into, and eight boys' blue serge Slops, lined inside cuffs with a narrow stripe of yellow striped cloth or braid, stolen therefrom. Informa- tion to be given to Mr. Superintendent Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bmo- street, March 28. Between 11 p. m. on 23rd, and 7 a. m. on 24th, the house of Mrs. Ann England's, Church- street, Driffield, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen : a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 54676; a gold keeper Ring, ' M. S.'; and a small old- fashioned Work Box, containing various small Articles. WILLIAM CHESTER alias ' LINKEY BILL,' a wold ranger, is in custody on suspicion, Informa- AMU Further information respecting the Mare stolen from Y « dley, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 26th inst. : it is ascertained that the Mare was slaughtered after being stolen, the hide has been recovered and identified, and two men, named SMITH, are in custody, charged with stealing the Mare. BENJAMIN BIRCH, who is also charged, has absconded : he is a native of Headless Cross, near Redditch, and is from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and complexion, pockpitted, and has the two top front teeth out. He is brother- in- law to the two Smiths, who are gipsies, Birch travels the country with a truck, with low sides and tilt on, and deals in Bath bricks, pegs, & c, also in horses for the knackers yard. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Simmons, Coleshill, or to Acting Inspector Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 28, Stolen on 27th ultimo, from Spring Grove Park, Wrib- benhall. near Bewdley : a brown Horse ( since recovered) by JABEZ LOACH, native of Bromsgrove, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, sallow complexion, black hair and whiskers, grey eyes, mole on right cheek, left breast and left shoulder ; dressed in a black jacket, pockets outside of skirt, black vest, cord trousers ( old), and hard billycock hat, and has a brother living at Dudley, and another living at Pens nett, near Dudley. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 23. cock hat, and heavy nailed boots. Is a native of Corsham, Wilts, and served 10 years in the 13th Foot, from which he was discharged about 3 years ago. The Donkey and Cart have been recovered, having been sold by Skuse at Newton- St.- Lee, near Bristol, on the day he obtained it. Infor- mation to be given to Mr. Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Bath, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion,.— Bow- street, March 28. Absconded on 12th instant, charged with stealing, as a bailee, two old silver verge Watches, one has a common pin for a rivet in the bow. Heenan and Sayers in a fighting attitude painted on the face, the other has been repaired in- side the case with solder. JOHN A. COOPER, a tramping printer, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, hair turning grey, bushy whiskers round face and mous- tache, stout build, bow- legged, and throws out left foot when walking ; dressed in a suit of dark cloth clothes, much worn, hard black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Belongs to Bury St. Edmund's, and will call on stationers and printers. He pawned the first watch in Hull, and he is making for the north. A warrant is issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, County Police Station,- Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Ma/ rch 28. Stolen from the Bull's Head public- house, Dartford, about 7 a. m. on 23rd instant : a pair of enamelled knee Boots, one boot has a patch on the heel; and a pair of boys lace- up Boots ; by a man about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, and dark complexion and hair ; dressed in black coat, pockets at hips, buttons off behind, brown felt hat, and old grey trousers. He says he is a baker, and visits shops in search of work. He is supposed to be making his way to Chatham, Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, March 26. Stolen from, a workshop in Oldham, between 6 p. m. on 22nd and 6 a, m. on the 23rd instant : a blue nap cloth Overcoat, velvet collar ( which was loose), pocket inside left breast, two large pockets and one small outside, trimmed with black ribbed cloth buttons, and lined with black Italian cloth; a dark mixture tweed cloth single- breasted Shooting Jacket, two pockets outside, trimmed with pearl buttons; two pairs of fancy cloth Trousers, black ground, white speckled, peach stripe, fly fronts, lined with fine twill calico, bound in at the top, plain buttons ; a pair of grey and brown striped cloth Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twill calico, trimmed with black iron buttons; and a pair of grey, red, and black check cloth Trousers, fly fronts, lined with twill calico, trimmed with black horn buttons. By ARTHUR MARSH, a tailor, who has worked in the shop, 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, dark moustache, and walks erect; probably will be wearing some of the | stolen property. He was, in May 1870, cow vie ted of larceny * | from the person at Surrey Sessions, and sentenced to seven SYSykliXA C}* I J ® ** 8 Penal servitude, and was liberated from prison in a Ji - March 1876. A reward of £ 1 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender, and recovery the pro- perty. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing six Sovereigns, the property of William Freemam, of Billings- hurst: ELIZABETH PIERCE, alias DAVIS, 31 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thin face, and dark mole on left cheek ; dressed in a shabby black dress, grey ulster cloak with belt, and black hat. She is well known at Poplar, Greenwich Police Court, and Rotherhithe. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, WeBt Sussex Constabulary, Horsham,— Bow- street, March 28. Description of ZACHARIAH SKUSE, charged with larceny as the bailee of a Donkey and Cart at Tiverton, on 21 st instant : he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, small whiskers and moustache, has lost the top of one of his fingers, and suffers from sores on his legs ; had on a brown coat, too large for him, short brown slop underneath, cord trousers, black and white scarf,' soft billy- Stolen from a hut at Sproston, in the county of Chester, on the night of 16th instant: two Billhooks, one marked ' T. V.' on blade; also a dirty old drab Slop, with two rows of buttons on the right side, patched in several places, and hard worn in front; and a fish- skin Glove. The hut was sot on fire by the offenders. Also stolen from George Robinson's cottage at Rudheath, in the same county, on 19th instant, about 2 p. m. : a black cloth Vest, a pair of light coloured cloth Trousers, and a pair of light lace- up Boots ( men's size) with brass lace holes. Supposed by two men, 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, and very dirty appearance ; one has dark hair, the other has red hair and a pug nose ; one wore a cap and narrow toed clogs, the other a billycock hat, and boots or shoes. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 26. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: HENRY SCHOLES, late of Bury St. Edmund's, commission agent, 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, moustache dyed black, blue eyes, fresh complexion, one leg natch larger than the other, limps a little, and has a slouc'. ing walk; dressed in dark undercoat, light trousers, high Jack hat, and a very long plaid overcoat, which has a black velvet collar. Information to be given to Inspector Balls, Stowmarket, Suffolk. — Bow- street, March 26. Stolen between 8 a. m. and 5 p. m. on 23rd instant, from a clothes line at Stirchley : a pair of moleskin Trousers much worn, lined with white cotton twill, and double lined at the bottom with unbleached calico, the property of Joseph Walford. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed ia dark clothes, billycock hat or cap. Was seen going in the direction of Shifnal about 3 p. m. same day. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Higgins, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, March 26. Stolen sometime between 8 p. m. and 12 midnight on 20th instant, from the dwelling house of Joseph Crompton, Over Hulton: a black leather Satchel, lined with red morocco leather, inside pocket torn, containing between £ 50 and £ 60 in Gold and Silver, and a £ 5 Bank of England 28 POLICE GAZETTE. March 23 Note, No. 7354608. Supposed by two men of the following description, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark beard, stout build ; dressed in black billycock, and dark overcoat. The other about 21 years of age, 5 fe° t 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion. Information to be given to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Station, Bolton, Lancashire.- Bow- street, March 26. Absconded on 10th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: CHARLES JAMES BALL, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, slight black hair ( cut close, parted in centre), moustache and whiskers ; dressed in brown and blue ulster coat, tight fitting trousers, and low biown hat, of sporting appearance, and generally carries a thin bamboo cane with crooked handle. Formerly resided at 13, Bark- place, Bayswater. Information, to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 23. Absconded on 17th,' from 5, Cromer- street, stealing 5 black handle Razors ; 12 Combs ; 2 pairs Scissors; 1 Cigar Holder; 1 Picture in maple" frame, subject § ' Revisited'; 1 brown cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar ; 1 pair black cloth Trousers and Vest; 1 pair side- spring Boots ; 1 white Shirt, marked ; Harris,' in ink; 1 white Handkerchief, marked ' J. T,' in ink ; 1 pair brown kid Gloves ; 2 hair dresser's Aprons ; and a shaving Cloth. A man 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair, eyes and moustache; dressed in black cloth suit, hard felt hat, and side- spring boots.— Metro- politan Police, E Division, March 23. Stolen on 14th instant, from the dwelling- house of Wm. Handley, of Tipton Green, Tipton : a pilot monkey Jacket, with two pockets on hips, and one inside breast pocket. By a man, who had lodged at the house during the night, sup- posed to be an engine tender by trade, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, dark eyes, stout build, black moustache and imperial; dressed in old grey jacket and waistcoat, dirty moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots, with brass eyelet- holes. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, Police Station, Wednes- bury, or to Inspector Harrison, Police Office, Tipton, Staffordshire.— Bew- itreet, Ma'ch 21. Description of ALFRED SHARP, charged on warrant with stealing at Brighton, on 17th instant, a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. F 55, 83054. : he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 iicbes high, slightly made, dark com- plexion, plays a concertina in the street, and sometimes per- forms as a nigger with a banjo, and occasionally obtains employment as a photographer. Information to be given to Chief Constable Crowhurst, Brighton, Busssx.— Bow- streei, March 21. Description of JOHN HOLLINGDALE, charged on a warrant w ith embezzling Money belosging to his master Edwin Stapley, at Brighton: he is from 18 to 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stoutly made, round face, few light brown whiskers, brown hair cut short, and a journey- man butcher. Information to be given to Chief Constable Crowhurst, Brighton, Sussex,— Bow- street, March 21. Description of SAMUEL BUTLER, charged with stealing £ 3 5s., the moneys of Charles Myles, at Wetley Rocks, near Leek, on 26tfc ultimo : he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, small sandy whiskers, stoops a little when walking, and turns his feet outwards; dressed in black overcoat, cord trousers, and bard felt hat; he is supposed to be a native of Whit- church, Salop, and is a labourer. Information to be giren to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- streei, March 21. Absconded from Blackburn on 19th instant, charged cloth coat, and a black hard hat. He said he waa a native of " Whitehaven, and that he had served in the Royal Artillery. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street. March 19. Stolen about 3 a. m, on 17th instant, from the bouse of John Jackson, at Heath- end, Pelsall : a black cloth pilot Overcoat, pocket iuside left breast, and two pockets outside, one button sewn through breast pocket; also a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, nearly new, pockets same as in the other, both velvet collars. By a man who lodged at the house during the night, and stated that he had obtained work at some ironworks, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, hair, whiskers, and small moustache, and is pockpitted; dressed in grey cloth jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, soft billycock hat, black and white scarf, and old lace up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent HilL Brownhills, or to Sergeant Arnold, Police Station, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— How- street, March 19. Absconded on 14th, from 18, Saville- row, St. Jamea'n, stealing £ 1Z 10s. in Gold & Silver ; EDWIN RICHARDS, butler, 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, scars on each Bide of back of neck from spear thrusts; dressed in black frock coat, black vest, shepherd plaid trousers, and high black hat. IIb is a native of Bourne, Lincoln, and has been a corporal in the 62nd Foot. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, March 19. WMJMMI AKTD Absconded, charged on a warrant with fraud: HOWARD PROTHEROE DAVIS, late of 2, Runwell- terrace, Southend ; 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, light hair, and small light ' moustache ; and usually wears a light rough Ulster coat Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, March 26. Obtained on 23rd instant, by false pretence : two pairs of ladies Boots, new, one pair glove kid, silk elastic, plain toe- caps, No. 11 on waist of boot, Nos. 169 and 31 on lining F inside top of boot; the other pair calf kid terry elastic, plaii . toe- caps, No. 11 on waist of boot, and Nos, 263 and 208 OJ . lining inside top of boot. By a young woman, about 20 yrs 5 of age, 5 feet high, pale face, black hair, made up in a plait , and tied with blue ribbon; dressed in black dress, witl t black silk bows down centre of front, a plain black paleto jacket, with pockets on the hips, and black Gainsborougl hat, worn on side of head. Information to be given ti 1 Mr. Superintendent Aston, Sessions House, Altrinoham, t>: I to Sergeant Nield, Police Office, Sale, Cheshire.— Bow- street • March 26, Description of — DICKENSON, charged on warran , with obtaining board and lodging under false pretences fron Thomas Larder, at Alford, on 19th instant: he is abou 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion dark hair, small whiskers en side of face, small dark mous ] tache, proportionate build, and large scar on left side of neck a shivering in rinhteyelid, which is. much smaller than the left dressed in old black suit of clothes, hard routid felt hat, olc black baronet necktie, old elastic- side boots, plain fronts, i hole in one heel near the bottom. He said he was a com- mercial traveller, and repreiented a firm of coach builders in Beverley, and had had an accident with his horse and trap. He had previously stated he was a gentleman's servant from the neighbourhood of Lincoln, and attempted to take lodgings for his master, who he said was an invalid. He may take private lodgings, or frequent Temperance Hotels and Eating Houses. Information to be given to Inspector Stennett, Police Station, Alford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- strest, March 26. Absconded, charged on a warrant with fraud at Horaham: MATTHEW HARMAN MILTON, alias : MARTIN, horse coper, 33 years of age. 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly built, pale complexion, black hair, moustache and whiskers ( slight); dressed in dark Chesterfield overcoat j ( black velvet collar), black velvet diagonal undercoat and vest, black scarf, high black hat with mourning band, and respectable appearance.
