INFORMATIONS, 1I71BS AIE MALICIOUSLY WOTJKDIia Absconded, charged with wounding P. C. Dent, of the Durham County Constabulary, on the 30th ultimo, at Water- house, County of Durham : JOHN CUNNINGHAM, a miner, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyed, sore, ginger hair, cut short, end of forefinger off right hand, and scar on right shoulder blade ; dressed in blue double- breasted reefer jacket, striped tweed trousers and vest, light grey cap with peak, ears turn up, strong lace boots, and light scarf. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Police Station, Coiisett, Durham.— Bov>- streel„ Jan. 5. On the night of the 30th November last, John Morrison, Head Gamekeeper to Francis Moncton, Esq, M. P., was attacked by five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, in the county of Stafford, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. Two of the offenders, WM. HUMPHREYS, alias ' JOLLY,' and WM. RICE, alias ' CHECKER,' of Shrewsbury, have been apprehended and committed to the Stafford Asaizes. The following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempt to murder : THOMAS ALLMAN, alias ' TIMER,' native of Shrews- bury, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6J inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight whiskers, left hand cut off at wrist, to which he can fix an • iron hook or an iron knob, he usually carries his left arm j in his trousers or jacket pocket. The hook or knob is j screwed into a block fitted with a brass plate, and a leather case covers his fore arm, and is strapped above the elbow under his jacket, Dressed either in cloth plaid woollen or corduroy trousers and vest, washed nearly white, blue cloth cap with peak of same material, button on top, may wear a navvy's drab slop, which ties round waist with running tape. He is likely to be in possession of a pawn ticket for his watch and clothes. Has worked at navvy work, horse driving, and boating, and is well known in Shropshire, Cheshire, Flint- shire, Herefordshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, and Staf- fordshire. JOHN WILLIAMS, alias ' WORCESTER DICK,' alias ' BRUMMEY,' a labourer, supposed native of Worcester, 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers, grey eyes, oval face, supposed to have a cast in. one eye, tattooed on right arm with anchor and bracelet, and has a cut mark on forehead over right eye. RICHARD OWEN, alias ' WOODBINE,' alias LITTLE DICK THE NAVVY,' supposed to be native of Salop ( his wife and child reside at Derby), about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very active, light hair, no- whiskers, full face, and good features; supposed dressed in a dark jacket, moleskin or bedford cord trousers, with buttons at bottom of legs, sometimes wears a sealskin cap or a dark cloth cap with cloth peak, and strong navvy boot's, with toe and heel plates. The following dogs may accompany the above men : a brown rough- haired dog, crossed ' with sheep and greyhound, II months old, answers to ' Charley,' attached to Allman ; a dark brindled greyhound- like Dog, 10 months old, answers to the name of ' Lion,' attached to Owen : and a black grey- hound- like looking do?, 2 years old, answers to the name of • Snap,' attached to Williams. These men are likely to tramp the country in search of navvy or boat work, and will Erobably be found sleeping at railway huts or low public- ouses, lodging- houses, or casual wards. J100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offenders, or a proportionate sum for such information as shall lead to the conviction of either of them. Absconded from Bedworth, charged with wounding Police Constable George Cluley, ef the Warwickshire Con- stabulary, on the 24th ultimo : JESSE CROMPTON, a miner, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes. He is a running man, known in the Midland Districts, and has been convicted for poaching. Information to be given to Superintendent Frankton, Police Station, Longford, near Coventry, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 3. On the 14th ultimo the Dead Body of a Male Child, newly born, was found on the road side near Tunstall Hill, in the county of Durham, wrapped in a piece of blanket, a email piece of cotton, and part of a dark blue petticoat. At the Coroner's Inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' was returned. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the Parish Church of Burton, Cheshire, was broken and entered and ransacked, but nothing stolen. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 3. During the night of 27tli ultimo, a cottage at Hoo, Kent, was burglariously broken and entered and stolen therein : an old- fashioned German silver Watch, with a dent in back ; a Pocket Knife, with toothpick, cork screw, file and two blades ; a small ditto with white handle and four blades ; a small square brass Locket, containing 3 or 4 Photographs; and about 10s. in Coppers, 2s. in jfarthiiags, 5s. in Threepenny and Fourpsnny Pieces, and « £ 1 in other Silver. Supposed by a labourer, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion and hair, and a few light whiskers ; dressed in monkey jacket, fustian trousers, black cap, and heavy lace shoes. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Chatham, Kent.— Baw- itrset, Janua- y 3. Between 11 p. m.,. on 29th, and 5 a. m., 30th ultimo, the house of James Wells, watch cleaner, of Church- street, Accrington, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, No. 17610, ' Ben Haworth' engraved on inside case; a silver lever Watch, plain cases, very heavy, gold balance, jewelled in two pairs extra; a silver lever Watch, plain cases, gold balance, extra jewelled ; a silver lever Watch, small piece broken off dial near the edge ; a silver lever Watch, rather small size ; a silver horizontal Watch, cases much dented, and fit badly ; 5 gentleman's silver Geneva Watches, one with cases out of repair; 3ladies silver Geneva Watches, and a German silver Verge Watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Alexander, Police Office, Burnley, or to Inspector Eatough, Police Office, Accrington, Lancaster.— Bow- street, January 3. Stolen during the night of the 21st instant, from a tailor and draper's lock- up shop at Bolton, entrauce having been effected by breaking through a back window : about 40 yards of black woollen Cloth, in four or five pieces, each piece about 60 inches wide, with grey border listing, and on which there are small white tickets tied with a piece of string; about 8 yards of black doeskin Cloth, 31 inches wide ; a grey check cloth double- breasted Chesterfield Overcoat, with black silk velvet collar, two outside pockets, and one ditto outside left breast, smoked pearl buttons, the button holes on the left side a little worn, lined with black Italian cloth, and quilted padding under the arms; a blue worsted cloth single- breasted reefer Coat, square pattern, bound with black braid, has four outside pockets, all flaps over, and one inside right breast pocket, which is divided into two, faced inside the front portion with blue twilled worsted, and supposed lined on the back with black serge ; a blue striped worsted cloth Vest, without collar, bound with black braid, two pockets on each side; a grey tweed cloth single- brea3ted reefer Coat, three pockets outside, and one inside left breast, trimmed with spotted ivory buttons, and has a small piecing tinder one of the cuffs ; a pair of grey tweed thick cloth Trousers, fly fronts, unlined, have side pockets, the binding on the tops much worn, and trimmed with metal buttons ; a light broken check cloth Vest, without collar, two pockets on each side, and a small pocket inside opposite the third button in which to place the pendant of a watch chain. A reward of £ 0 will be paid to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Ashton- under- Lyne, by breaking through the back kitchen window, between 4- 30 and 8' 30 p. m. on the 25th instant: two men's blue cloth single- breasted Dress Coats, with stand- up collars, four cloth buttons down front, one pocket inside lett breast, two ditto in skirt, made without seam in the back ; two tweed Coats, of different patterns, similar in style to the above, with four bone buttons down front, partly worn ; a pair of grey mixture woollen tweed Trousers, full fronts, old style of make ; two grey ditto Vests, single collar, six dark bone buttons in front, pockets inside left breast, one much worn : two silk Dresses, one of light silk, striped, bell sleeves, full body, plaited front, trimmed with violet- colour buttons down front, plain skirt, trimmed round bottom with violet- colour velvet, the sleeves button inside to the elbow with small violet- colour silk buttons ; the other is dark brown, made similar to the first, trimmed with black glass buttons down front; a linen Shirt, plain front, three stud holes in front, two pearl buttons on collar, with stud hole in centre; a lady's linen Nightdress, very long ; a calico ditto ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, love- knot pattern, with small gold tassels attached ; a gentleman's gold Ring, set with a green stone, striped with red in centre, stamped ' 15- carat gold,' has been enlarged by having a small piece attached thereto; twelve silver Teaspsons, marked ' B. E. F.' in monogram ; pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked similar to spoons ; an oval plated Locket, with a long gold Chain attached, small curb pattern ; a lady's morocco leather Satchel, lined with brown cloth, long snap, and two rings attached ; a white silk Handkerchief, and a white and puce ditto. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Town Hall, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire. — jBow- street, December 27. Between 12 p. m. and 7 a. m., on 21st instant, a house at Sale was burglariously entered and stolen therein : a black cloth Overcoat, marked ' Freeborn and Co.,' inside collar; a pair of elastic- side Boots,' men's size, nearly new; a gents green silk Umbrella, ' Thomas Glen' stamped on handle; and two white linen Shirts, man's size, plain fronts, marked ' T. G.' on flap. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Sessions House, Altrincham, or to Sergeant Mield, Police Station, Sale, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 27. Further information respecting the housebreaking at the ' Hope,' near Welshpool, on 18th instant, and advertised in Police Gazette of the 20th. The man suspected is of the following description : from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, thin facs, brown whiskers on chin, slender build ; dressed in brown cloth cap, with button 011 top, cord or moleskin tra^ sera, jtjd the stolen jacket and boots. Carries a small egg basket and a bag or satchel tied together with cord and carried one in front and one behind, and is likely to be found sleeping in out- buildings. Information to be given to Police Constable Thomas, Butting- ton, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. — Bow- street, Dee. 27. Further information respecting the cases of housebreaking at Posenhall. and Wyke, on 18th instaat, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the SOth instant: a blue check cotton Shirt, and a pair of blue worsted Stockings were also stolen from out of the cottage of Alice Garbett. Supposed by a man who was seen at 3 p m., on the same day, going across some fields in the direction of Buildwas- bridge, carrying a bundle under his arm, tied up in a blue striped handkerchief. He is about 30 years of Kge, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, black whiskers and moustache; dressed in a dark cloth jacket, brown cloth trousers, hard high felt hat, nearly new lace- up boots with two rows of large nails round outsides, and three small round beaded nails up centre, and plates on heels. He had the appearance of a tradesman, and is supposed to have gone to Wellington or Shrewsbury. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a stable at the rear of 298J, High- street, Camden Town : a light bay cob Mare, a light spring Cart, and 2 sets of Harness, both brass mounted. Supposed by two men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, long features, dark curly hair, no whiskers, speaks with a Norfolk accent; dressed in dark overcoat, high black hat; appearance of a horse coper.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, January 5. Stolen from Hawford Hill, Ombersley, near Worcester, on the night of the 30th ultimo : a dark brown cob Pony, about 14 hands high, aged, small star on forehead, broken winded, long coat, snatches up the near hind foot when trotting, and is ahod all round. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, January 3. Stolen from a field in Middlesbrough, on 28th ultimo : a half- bred grey i'awn Lamb. Information to be given to to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Stolen from Clent on the 19th ultimo : a dun coloured mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high. Information, to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, January 3, Stolen from a field at Walsall: a brown cart Horse, 6 years old, 16 hands high, black legs, and in good condition. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 27. Description of GEORGE WARD, charged with stealing a white Heifer, recovered, from a field at Sutton, near Hull, on the 15th instant: he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stiff build, ruddy complexion, round face, nose rather flat, ginger hair and whiskers, bald, is a farm labourer, and supposed to be a native of Wrangle, near Boston, Lin- colnshire. Information to be given to Superintendent 2 POLICE GAZETTE. January 5 Watson, Sproatly, Hull, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Beuitirtit, December 27. Stolen from a field at Worksop : a bay Filly, about 8 months old, thorough- bred, has a small white star centre of forehead. Was missed on the 19th instant. A reward of _ glO will be paid upon the recovery of the filly, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Holland, County Police Station, Worksop, Notts.— Bow- street, December 27. Obtained by means of a false cheque, on the Sheffield Union Banking' Company, for £ 57 10s,, in the name of Charles Rodgers, at Wigan Horse Fair on 30th Oct. last: a dappled grey Mare, nearly half- bred, about 16 hands 2 ins. high^ rising 5 years old, slight blemish inside coffin joint of near hind leg caused by a cut, hair of rump slightly rubbed off with harness, rather long tail, undocked ; has a trick of heaving up or drawing the near hind leg when standing as if caused by a spraiD. It is stated that the Mare has since been clipped, and had the tail docked. Description of the roan charged with the offence : a horse dealer, born at Bath, of no fixed residence, 72 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes and hair, bald on top of head, rather sjtoutlv built, large cut across bridge of rose, and small scar back of cs. lf of right leg; dressed in grey mixture suit, and light mackintosh overcoat. He has been in custody at Durham, Manchester, Salford, & c. At the time the Horse was obtained the man was in the company of two much younger men, dressed like grooms or horse dealers. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner of the Mare, Mr. Kenwright, upon restoration and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Wigan, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 27. Absconded from Warrington charged with stealing a silver Geneva Watch, the figures 12 scratched on the dial, and'E. J.' scratched on outside of outer case : a Spaniard, known as JOSEPH de ANGLAIS, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in a smooth blue cloth coat, rough blue cloth trousers, light tweed vest, black billycock hat, and two odd elastic- side boots. On the 27th ultimo he left his lodgings where he had been one week, taking the watch, which belonged to another lodger ; he has represented that he was an interpreter at Liverpool Hotels, and that he has been a porter on the platform at Lime- street Station there. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 6. Description of THOMAS STRETCH, charged on a warrant with larceny: he is a journeyman tailor, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, the hair long and inclined to curl at the ends, fresh complexion, and a scar on right side of neck ; dressed in dark thick nap overcoat, with velvet collar, single- breasted, black billycock hat, white woollen muffler, new black mourning coat and vest, bound with narrow braid, new brown check tweed trousers, and thin elastic- side boots, with light tops. He is supposed to be a native of Wrexham, and he left Festiniog on the 23rd ultimo, enquiring his nearest way to Wrexham. Information to be given to Sergeant Jones, Four Crosses, Festiniog, Merionethshire.— Bow- street. January 3. Description of WALTE E WHITE, charged on a warrant with stealiog a Watch, Guard, Seal, & c. ( since recovered), at Snaith, on the 29th November last, from a lodging- house at Goole : 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, nearly bald on top of head, double sighted in right eye, walked lame, having injured his right ankle ; dressed in mixture cloth coat, slack- backed, dark cloth vest with white spots on it, black and green plaid cloth trousers, grey cap with ear tips to it, and strong lace- up boots. He is a light porter, a native of London, and last resided at Snaith. Was last heard of at Woolwich. Information to be given to Superintendent Goodall, Goole, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Absconded from Gloucester on the morning of the 30th ultimo, stealing; from her lodgings, 2, Clarence Villas : a black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black fur ; a white Maltese Muff, with very long hair ; a black lustre Skirt, with crape in front, and kilting round bottom ; a black silk and crape Bonnet, with ostrich feather in front, and a small white feather behind ; a Roman Scarf, with black, red, and yellow stripes, between 2 and 3 yards long, and three- quarters of a yard wide, with black silk fringe at the ends ; a gold Pencil- case ; a coral Brooch ; a blue turquoise Brooch, set in silver; a pair of plated Ear rings and plated Brooch ; and a gentle- man's small American leather travelling Bag, edged with brown leather, the lock of which is out of repair: a young woman who stated that she had lately been residing in London, near St. Paul's Cathedral, that her parents who had a small farm near Cheltenham were both dead, her father having been killed by a fall from an apple tree : she is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, brown hair, fresh complexion, and good looking ; she will probably be wearing the stolen, jacket and dress, and the white maltese muff, as she left behind her ulster cloak, jacket, dress, and muff, she will also be like to be carrying the travelling bag, containing the stolen trinkets. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Police Office, Gloucester.— Baw- sireet, January 3. The man charged with larceny from a dwelling in Con- gleton, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th ultimo, is still at large, aud was seen in Derby on the 23rd ultimo, where he was tearing paper up into different shapes and patterns with his hand behind him, in Public houses. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Bohanna, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 3. Description of JOSEPH STEPHENS, charged with stealing i'l 12s, 6d. frosa the dwelling- house of John Hurst, Eastnor, on the 30th ultimo : about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, and soft black hat; he is a labourer, and sometimes works in brickyards or quarries, supposed to be found in Worcestershire, Stafford- shire, or Warwickshire. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Blunsden, Ledbury, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 29. Absconded from Yaxley, Hunts, on the 27th, instant, charged with stealing fowls : WILLIAM GL1THERO, a labourer, 30 years of age, 6 feethigh, pale complexion, light brown hair, light moustache, flight build, walks very erect and has been in the army ; dressed in billycock hat, pilot jacket, and dark cloth trousers. HARRY GARRETT, alias RUSHEY, a labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fair complexion, very light hair, and rather thick lips ; generally dresses in dark clothes and clog shoes. Will probably seek employment at some ironworks in Derbyshire, where they have previously been employed. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman Cross, Peterborough, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— B< no- elreet, Dec. 29. Stolen on the 28th instant, from a cottage at Hope Man sell: two white twill Slops, with waistbands ; a white Muffler, with red spots ; a white bundle Handkerchief, with figures of men on it; a meerschaum. Pipe ; a horse hair Albert watch Guard ; a steel watch Chain; and a brown leather Purse, containing 3a. 3d. in Money ; the property of Daniel Carpenter. By a man about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, and scar over right eye; dressed in dark plaid jacket and vest, cord trousers, and black soft billy- cock hat; a labourer, supposed native of Malvern or Cradley. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, December 29. Absconded from Eastbourne, Sussex, on the 12th inst., charged with embezzling 14s., belonging to —• Rickett and others, his masters, coal merchants, at Eastbourne : ALBERT OUTTEN, 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light com- plexion, thin features, rather high nose, which turns slightly on one side, large full grey eyes, has a peculiar white mark in one, light brown hair, cut short behind, very slight mous- tache, no whiskers, slight figure, leans forward when walking, and is very quick in his movements. Has lately been a clerk in a coal merchant's office, but was formerly a clerk in a solicitor's office at Chelmsford, Essex. R.' and seven small strokes inside the case, and the other ' R. L. D.', five small strokes, and the figure ' 8 ' scratched inside the case : he is about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, stout made, black curiy hair, parted down the middle, Negro features, brown eyes, pockpitted, and walks with a swinging gait ; well dressed in a dark suit, ir| Suding an overcoat, at times a soft felt hat, and at others a round sealskin cap. He is a native of America, and married an English woman named Bell, who formerly resided at Tootill's Stairs Cocker's- green, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, whom he has now deserted. He also resided about years at 22, Union- st, Hartlepool, and worked at a steel works there, also with a' coloured man at Sunderland, where he worked at a glass house for 3 or 4 years. He is well known at the Temperance and Band of Hope Union Offices, 42, Renshaw- street, W. Liverpool. Latterly he has travelled about the country seeking orders for Bibles and other Books, and lecturing occasionally on teetotaliem. He is accompanied by a young English woman, with whom he eloped the same day, who was in his employment as a domestic servant.
