Information to be given at any Police Station in the County of Stafford, or to Chief Constable Congreve, Chief Constable's Office, Stafford, — Bow- street, December G. Description of CHARLES PEACE, alias GEORGE PARKER, alias ALEXANDER MANN, alias PAGANINI, charged with murder at Sheffield, on the night of the 29th ultimo : he is thin and slightly built, 46 years of age, but looks 10 years older, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey ( nearly white) hair, beard, and whiskers, ( the whiskers were long when he committed the murder, but may now be cut or shaved off), has lost one or more fingers off left hand, cut mark on back of each hand, and one on forehead, walks with his legs rather wide apart, speaks somewhat peculiarly, as though his tongue was too large for his mouth, and is a great boaster; he is a picture- frame maker, but occasionally cleans and repairs clocks and watches, and sometimes deals in oleographs, engravings, pictures, & c.; associates with loose women, and has been twice in penal servitude for burglaries near Manchester, and has lived in Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, and Hull. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, Yorkshire.— Bom- street, Dec. 4, MUEDEE AIB MAIilCIOUSIiTT WOUNDING. Absconded from Hardington, charged with the murder of Police Constable Cox, on the night of the 16th instant, at Netherton, Somerset: GEORGE HUTCHINGS, about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, sallow com- plexion, and thin face. GILES HUTCHINGS, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, sallow complexion, thin face, and downcast look. And PETER HUTCHINGS, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair, sallow com- plexion, and marked with small pox. Giles and Peter, are sons of George, Hutchings, and all are natives of Hardington, near Yeovil. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person employed in a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer or murderers, | and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being tbe person who actually committed the murder, as shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. And a further reward of £ 30 is offered by the Chief Constable for Somersetshire j to any person ( including Police Officers) who may become entitled to it under the conditions of his notice. It is sup- posed that the accused persons will endeavour to escape from1 their hiding place in some gipsies' van. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Yeovil, Somerset, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. On the 3rd instant, the Body of a full- grown newly- born male Child, much decomposed, was found on the road side at Middle Cave, Malton, enclosed in a bag or dsuble napkin, apparently made from a bedroom towel, wrapped in a • Malton Messenger, dated 1st July, 1876,' and tightly bound round with thick twine. An inquest has since been held, and a verdict returned of ' Wilful Murder against some person or parsons unknown'. Information to be given to Superintendent Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary Office, Malton.— Bow- street, December 8. On the night of 30th ultimo, Mr. John Morrison, head gamekeeper to Francis Monckton, Esq., M. P., was attacked by a gang of five poachers at Crateford, near Brewood, Staffordshire, one of whom fired a gun with intent to murder him. One of the offenders, named THOMAS JONES, a labourer, has been apprehended, identified, and remanded. Tbe following men ( who have absconded) are charged on warrants with the attempt to murder : THOMAS ALLMAN, alias ' TIMER,' supposed native of Salop, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, fair com- plexion, light hair, little or no whiskers, has lost one hand ( supposedleft) to which arm he occasionally affixes a hook j and generally hides it in his coat pocket; dressed in moleskin or corduroy trousers and waistcoat, dark cloth jacket, black billycock hat or cap, and water- tight boots, WILLIAM PRICE, alias ' CHECKER,' native of Trench, Salop, 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, full face, and very flat " nose ; supposed dressed in flannel or moleskin jacket, moleskin trousers and waistcoat, dark cap, and water tight boots. RICHARD OWEN, alias ' DICK THE NAVVY,' supposed to be a native or Derby, where his relations reside, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, and full face ; supposed dressed in dark jacket, moleskin or cordursy trousers and waistcoat, and dark cap. And JOHN DAV1ES, alias ' GEORGE WILLIAMS,' alias BRUMMY,' native of Salop, 28 years of age, 5 ft. 8 or 9 inches high, and of smart active appearance; dressed like a navvy, and wearing a black billycock hat. These m » n are likely to tramp the country in search of navvy work, and to be found in company with navvies, boatmen, or poachers, at low public- houses or brothels. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of these offenders, or a proportionate sum for such information as shall lead to the 8LC8BBEB. During the night of the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Brett, Penn Fields, Upper Penn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: 9 Table Knives, white handles; 1 large Carving Fork ; 4 Dessert Forks, silver- j plated; 2 common Table Spoons ; 7 Tea Spoons, silver-, plated ; 1 Steel, white handle ; 1 Bread Knife, white handle ; 1 2 Salt Spoons ; 1 white Table Cloth ; and 1 drab and blue Table Cover. In custody at Gravesend, and remanded till 11th instant, charged with attempted burglary at the house of W. H. Windsor, Esq, Cumberland- terrace, Milton next Gravesend, at midnight of the 3rd instant : JOHN COSGROVE, states he is a native of Manchester., 29 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, black' hair, cut short, grey eyes, small moustache, has figures of \ two men and a woman, heart, and arrow on right forearm, I and figure of a woman dancing on left forearm ; dressed in rough short jacket, blue cloth trousers, grey cloth vest, and soft American hat. RICHARD JONES, native of Bristol, 29 years of age,: 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, cut short, brown moustache and imperial; dressed in long blue Chester- field coat, blue trousers, grey cloth vest, and hard black bowler1 hat. HENRY FREDERICK WHITE, states he belongs to Blackfriars- rcad, London, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, scar right side of top lip, small scar under right eyebrow, mole spot under right ear, and on chest; dressed in black overcoat, dark trousers and vest, black bowler hat, black necktie, and turned- down collar. ! During the night of the 2nd instant, the shop of Mr. William Boulton, pawnbroker, Liverpool- road, Stoke- on- Trent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : 8 gold Guards, snake, secret liuk, and belcher patterns, and weighs 1 oz 17 dwts, 9- carat. 11 gold Alberts, various patterns, new and second hand, j 9- carat. i 3 gold Necklets, one small secret link, the other two of of a larger pattern, 9 carat. 50 gold Rings, gentlemens' and ladies', various stones, new and second hand, with a letter scratched in the inside, 9 to 18- carat. 12 ladies' gold dress Rings, 0 to 15- carat. 40 gold Wedding Rings. 20 gold Keeper Rings, various pattens. 1 heavy Indian gold Ring, Odd Fellow's grip, not stamped. 20 Lockets, various sizes, two marked as follows, one bands gripped, and the other with the letters ' I O. G. T.' on the front. 1 gold Seal, imitation topaze. 2 small gold Seals. 3 gold Seals, shell pattern. 3 ditto, with various stones. 3 ditto. 12 pairs of gold Ear- rings, 15 to 18- carat. 1 silver Guard, weight 3|- ozs 7 silver Guards. 8 silver Alberts, various patterns and weights. 6 gent's gold cast Rings. 3 silver Pencil- cases. 1 small gold round Brooch, stone of three colours. 1 gold Locket, with cat's face. Any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property will receive £ 10 reward, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Ridgway, Esq, of Garston, near Watford, Herts, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 9 dozen Knives and Forks, with white handles ; two carving Knives and Forks ; one dozen dessert Knives, with ivory handles ; two plain green cloth table Covers ; six white table Cloths, marked in ink ' J. Ridgway ; six or eight tea Cloths, marked ' J. Ridgway '; a silver toast Rack ; a set of silver Casters ; a silver tea caddy Spoon; a plated Salver; a silver wine Caster; two plattd Tops off dishes , a blue cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar; a Mackintosh; a lady's white Water- proof ; a lady's brown Waterproof; a lady's brown Ulster, with waistband ; a lady's silk Umbrella, with ivory . handle ; a gentleman's brown alpaca Umbrella, with hooked handle ; a pair of lady's high button Boots; a gold Pencil Case ; a silver Tea pot; and a silver Tray and Snuffers. £ 20 reward is offered. Stolen by means of burglary during the night af 28th ult. from a dwelling- house at St. Leonaid's- on- Sea: a silver keyless Watch, maker ' Remonntre,' cracked face, and ' dix rubies' engraved inside; and a plated gold Albert Chain with Locket in shape of an opera glass attached. Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from Aconbury Court, an aged dark bay carriage Horse, the propeity of A. Armitage, Esq. Stolen on the 1st instant, from a field off Fruin- road, East Dulwich, a light strawberry roan Heifer, in calf.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, December 6. Stolen from a field near Merthyr Tydfil, during the night of the 28th ultimo, a dark bay cob Horse, 7 years old, about 13| hands high, black mane, long tail, has a white spot about the size of half- crown near the saddle on the off side, and is in good condition, the propeity of John Vowles, horse dealer, Merthyr Tydfil. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan- shire.— Bow- street, December 4. WILLIAM EVANS, charged on a warrant with steal- ing a Donkey from Llanfyllin ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 11th August last), is still at large. His mother, who is a widow, lives in Crewe, and he has relatives living in Buckley. Flintshire. He will likely seek work on coal banks or brick yards. Information to be given to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street,, December 1. LISOIIY AMP aBmLEMEIf, Stolen on 4th instant, from au engine- house situate at Highbridge, Pelsall ; the property of Wm. Poxon, of Pelsall : au old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with small glass in centre of case ; and an old brass curb Cnain and three Keys attached. Supposed by a man about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, dark trousers, and brown hard hat; he is a miner and a native of Tarn worth. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Arnold, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.-— Bow- sireet, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Congleton, on the 1st instant: a green and black plaid Jacket, double- breasted, with two pockets outside, and one inside left breast ; a pair of girl's kid top elastic- side Boots ; a girl's black silk Froek, trimmed with black lace; a silver Locket, in the form of a heart, with two green and two red stones in it, had a piece of black velvet attached. By a man, about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, rather Jong thin features, dark or sallow complexion, black hair, no whiskers, very slight black moustache, and slim build1; dressed in a light tweed or grey jacket, and a pair of moleskin or barrigan trousers, much too large for him, and old boots, split across the front; he is 2 POLICE GAZETTE. December 8 supposed to be tattooed on the left arm. He goes about in public houses, imitating different kinds of musical instruments with his voice, acts as a ventriloquist, and tears paper up into different shapes and patterns with his hands behind him, and he is well known through all the Pottery Towns and Birmingham. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Bohanna, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Dee. 8. Charged with fowl stealing, at Kinver, on the 2nd inst., together with another man now in custody : a youth, who is well known by the lock keepers ana boatmen on the Stafford- shire and Worcestershire Canal, about 16 or 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, rather stout, dark complexion, and dark brown hair; dressed in dark clothes, very dirty and ragged, long coat, and hard billycock hat ; and a youth about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in black cloth coat, corduroy trousers, clumsily repaired in front with white thread, and soft billy- cock hat. They are both boatmen, and are supposed to be in company with a man who works a boat belonging to the Cookeley Ironworks. Information to be given to Sergeant Stevenson, Police Station, Kinver, near Stourbridge, Staf- fordshire.— Bme- str'eet, December 8. Description of THOMAS HART, a labourer, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with stealing a watch, recovered, at Swinefleet near Goole, on 15th July last: 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown eyes black hair, cut short, slender build. He is known by the name of ' WILD TOMMY.' Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Goodall, Goole, York- shire.— Bow- afreet, December 8. JAMES GUBBINS, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant, as having absconded from Burton- on- Trent with £ 90, the property of M. A, Bass, Esq, has been apprehended, and is remanded until the 12th instant.'— Brno- street, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Castleford, on the 2nd instant: a blue pilot Monkey Jacket, two pockets inside and three outside, lined with plain horse cloth, and black bone buttons ; also a black silk Handkerchief, which was in one of the pockets. By a navvy, who wears earrings, about 23 years of age. 5 feet 6' inches high, light complexion, brown eyes, light brown hair, no whiskers, and of slender build ; dressed in a light harden jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, Scotch cap with knot on top, and strong navvy boots; he was formerly a tipper. Information to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Biding Constabulary, Pontefraet, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, December 8. Description of WILLIAM WILMER, charged with stealing at Bolney, Sussex, oa the 25th ultimo, a Watch ( since found pawned in Brighton) : about 37 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexipn, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, he is a journeyman baker, and it well known in West Sussex and Redhill, Surrey ; dressed in grey coat, large check trousers, with dark stripe at sides, light stitched hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superin- tendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Castleford, on the 2nd instant: a lady's gold Geneva lever Watch, two light spots on inside case; and a pair of black and green striped plaid Trousers, fly fronts, lined with grey calico. By GEORGE KNIGHT, who has been in the army, and is well known as tendent Egexton, County Hall, Birkenhead, or to Sergeant Roche, Little Sutton, near Chester.— Bow- street, December 4. Absconded, charged with breaking into a bed- room in a refreshment house at Leicester, and stealing therein a Cash- box, containing £ 186 10s. in Geld, on the afternoon cf the 25th ultimo : a man, about 5 feet 6 inches high, from 35 to 40 years of age, fresh complexion, and dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a brown overcoat, dark cloth coat and vest, tweed trousers, and high hat ; wore a ring oa one little finger. Had in his possession a dark portmanteau opening in the centre. £ 50 reward will be paid by Mr. Sam. Whiteman, Refreshment House, Gallowtree- gate, Leicester, on the conviction of the above man and recovery of the propeity, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Farndale, Town Hall, Leicestei.— Bow- street, Deamber 4. Description of a man who obtained Supper, Bed, and Breakfast, at the house of Peter Forster, of Lymm, and absconded on the morning of the 1st instant, stealing a pair of elastic- side Boots, p^ rt worn, the front and back of the kid on left boot has been repaired with black cotton : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, three or four large proniuent upper front teetb, long chin, and small whiskers; dressed in black cloth coat, corduroy trousers, rough brown cloth cap without peak, and lace- up clogs : he had the appearance of having worked in a foundry or cotton factory, and stated that he belonged to Worsley, near Manchester. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Altrincham, or to Sergeant . Boiling- worth, County Police, Lymm, Cheshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 4. Absconded from Maidenhead, on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing from his lodgings, a small silver lever Watch, point of minute hand broken off; a pair of black cloth Trousers, large size, nearly new ; a pair of Braces, and a knitted woollen smoking Cap, of different coluurs : a man, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark curly hair, small black moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, Blight build ; dressed in high hat, dark cloth coat, light trousers ; he speaks with a slight Scotch accent, is an upholsterer, and is supposed to have gone to the neighbourhood of St. John's Wood to seek employment. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Austin, Borough Police, Maidenhead, Berkshire. — Bow- street, December 4. Absconded from Hungerford, charged with stealing a silver hunting Watch, winding up in face, on 23rd ultimo ; the property of Henry Bright : WILLIAM BUNCE, labourer, native of Ivm t bury, Berks, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, lout one or two of his front teeth; dressed in a grey jacket, dark trousers with light overalls, and Scotch cap with plaid baud. Information to be given to Inspector Drewett, Hungerford, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- itreei, December 1. Stolen from a garden, at Kempsey, near Worcester, on 29th ultimo : 4 white flannel Petticoats, one of which is marked on the band ' M. A. Foxton,' and another ' C. Spencer' ; and a pair of woman's Stays. Supposed by a tramp, about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, low black hat, and light shoes. Information to be given to Inspector Oliver, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- tireet, December 1. Absconded from Margate on 21st ultimo, stealing a silver Watch, no gla-? s, one hand broken, brack mark on back of ' SOLDIER GEORGE' on public works. He is a navvy, cases, engraved on cases ' M. Barnett, Market- place'; about about 33 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light complexion,; 23 years of age. 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, light light brown hair, moustache, and imperial, slender build ; | brown hair, slight moustache, thiu figure ; dressed in dark dressed in old brown pilot jacket, biowu striped cloth vest, \ blue cutaway coat and vest, dark speckled trousers, black corduroy trousers, brown cap with ear- laps, and light boots. Information to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Sow- street, December 8. Charged at Barnsley for stealing a gold Watch and ChaiD, from a public- house on the 4th instant, ( watch since found pledged): a lodger, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, black mous- tache, whiskers shaved off, moderate build, gentlemanly appearance, and walks very erect; dressed in dark pilot overcoat, hard billycock hat, striped trousers, mixture vest, lace- up boots, with brass eyelets, and brass hooks at the tops, and silk neckerchief. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, December 6. Absconded on 22fch ultimo, stealing from the Oriental Club, Hanover- square, £ 81 19s. 8d : a man, 43 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, pale complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, and curly black hair; dressed in black frock coat and vest, and tight check trousers.— Metropolitan Police, C Divi- sion, December 4. Description of a man who is charged with stealing from his lodgings on the 1st instant : £ 27 in Gold, and a £ 10 Bank of England Note.
