The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ot Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for Insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUED££ AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDIIG. On the 31t ultimo, the dead body of a full grown male child was found on the beach at the Polka Hole, in the river Wear, Sunderland : it was wrapped in a piece of old towel, and a small piece of writing paper was adhering to the body, with the words ' making and trimming' and some figures written thereon, apparently in a female's hand- writing. At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. ,£ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the conviction of the murderer er murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sun- derland, Durham.— Bow- street, November 10. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of the 11th instant, some evil disposed person or persons wilfully set fire to a hay rick, at All Stret- ton, the property of Mrs. Bakewell. £ 50 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Additional information respecting the man EDWARD SMITH, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th October last : he is a native of Campbeltown, Argyleshire, and his real name is WISHART. His father is a retired letter- carrier of the above town, is known in Glasgow by the name of YOUNG, and lived in that town last year. Stolen from the person in Port- street, Annan, on tbe night of the 11th instant, a hard dial silver lever Watch, No. 45674, with gold albert Chain and swivel Key attached, nearly new. Information to be given to Superintendent Gibson, Annan, Dumfriesshire.— Bow- street, November 17. BURGLARY A3TU MOUSE BEMKIS'G. During the night of 12th or morning cf 13th instant, tbe dwelling- house and shop of William Baxter, Mistley, Essex, was entered and stolen therefrom : two black cloth Overcoats, one quite new with velvet collar and hip pockets, and has a new bone button in front different to the others, the other very old and worn with pockets behind ; anew pilot Jacket ; one pair of striped cloth Trousers ( boys' size); one pair of plaid Trousers ( men's size); one pair of elastic striped Braces, marked ' N'; a grey cloth Vest, buttons up to the throat, marked in plain figures ' 3?. lid.,' or'M. W.'; a new check flannel Shirt; a pair of elastic- side Boots ( No. 7 size) ; and 3s. in Sixpences and Coppers ; an old pilot Jacket; an old common Shirt ( bed tick pattern), with paper collar attached ; a grey cloth Waistcoat; a plaid woollen Scarf ; a pair of old black cord railway Trousers ; a pair of side- spring Boots ; a pair of striped ( brown and white) Socks ; a box of Wax Tapers ; and a sheath Knife, were left on the premises, and the thief may be wearing part of the stolen property. A man about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inc'cea high, small dark miustache and whiskers, slim built, a pailor, and a native of Mistley, was seen in the neighbourhood on the night of the robbery, and is strongly suspected ; he is well known in Westminster - bridge - road, and at Wandsworth; he is a notorious thief, and has been previously convicted. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, Mistley.— Bow- street, November 15. During the night of the 12th instant, the residence ot Miss Nichols, of Westbourn Park, Newland, was broken into and stolen therein : a fish Slice ; a soup Ladle; a cake Knife and Fork ; three dessert Knives and Forks, ivory handles ; three-- tea Spoons ; two salt Cellars ; two salt Spoons ; a pair of sugar Bows ; a caddy Spoon, all silver ; a Half- sovereign ; a three penny Piece ; a Sixpence, with holes through ; and an American Coin. Information to be given to Inspector Cusworth, East Riding Constabulary, St. John's Wood, Hull.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen by means of house- breaking, during the night of the 7th instant, at Goosnargh Hospital : a pair of small- sized men's lace- up Boots, about ten plain punched holes on each side, part worn ; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, small size, part worn; two white calico Shirts, marked ' W.' on hind lap ; and a common Umbrella, large size, large handle of light wood, and the upper spring broken off. Also stolen from the residence of the Rev. Robert Grad- well, and the Catholic Chapel, at Claughton, which were broken and entered during the night of the 8th instant: a standing Pix, silver gilt, about 8 inches high, and 4 inches wide, consisting of a round silver Box on a loot, and con- taining an inside glass, round Box with silver gilt border, and set with small crystals, an inscription on the back in Latin ' Given by the very Revd. Cannon Henry Gradwell ( supposed) 1852, and by the Revd. Robert Gradwell ( sup- posed) 1860;' a brass gilt Plate from door of Tabernacle, about 15 inches by 10 inches, with a lamb enamelled in centre, and form enamels of wheat sheaves in panels, and bordered with raised work, rspresenting vine leaves and tendrils ; ,£ 75 10s. in Gold and £ 5 in Silver ; two Medals of Pius IX, one gold, the other silver, the obverse of the medals ' The Lord washing the feet of the Disciples ;' leather Top of an Oil- case, triangular form; a large plum- colourtd merino Muffler ; and a sample bottle of pale red Hollands, marked ' Geo. Gradwell, Sons;' a German Flute, silver mountings; a silver - lever Watch, maker Boskell and Co., Liverpool, has the name ' Rev. Robert Gradwell,' engraved on the brass plate covering the works ; and an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, pair- case, maker Roskell and Co., Liver- pool, No. 3786. Information to be given to Superintendent Webb, Constabulary Office, Garstang, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 15. H0SSE AMD CATTLE STEALIM0. Stolen between 7 and 8 pm, on the 14th instant, from Burchett Green, Berks, a brown cob Horse, aged, 14 hands 2 inches high, white streak down the face, broken knees, one worse than the other; a chocolate- coloured Cart, picked out with white, the tail board has been cut through the middle, and works on two hinges, and an old harness. Supposed by two men : one about 25 years of age, medium height, brown hair, strong build, clean shaved; dressed in cord trousers, brown cloth single- breasted coat, buttoued with one button on the top, low crowned hat. The other, 25 years of age, medium height, brown hair, small whiskers, strong build : dressed in dark cloth trousers, dark cloth single- breasted coat, buttoned at top ; both had the appearance of horse dealers. Information to be given to Superintendent Iremonger, Berks Constabulary, Maidenhead.— Bow street, November 17. Stolen from a field at the Woodlands Farm, in the parish of Dawley, between the 5th and 7th instant: four Ewe Sheep, about 3 years old, half- bred Shropshire down breed, marked on the right side ' o a '; the property of Mr. W. Greenhalgh, farmer. Information to be given to Deputy! Chief Constable Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Higgins, ' Dawley, Salop.— Bo< o street, November 17. Supposed stolen from a field at Rushall, between the ; 11th and 12th instant, the property of William Morton, i Green- lane, Walsall: a black filly, 3 years old, two white; fetlocks, and white star on forehead ; also a brown filly, six months old, black legs, and small white star on forehead. Also supposed stolen, from a field at Aldridge Lodge, during the night of the 12th instant, the property o'f F. F. Clarke, Esq.: a bay horse, 14 hands 3 or 4 inches nigh, and a cream coloured gelding, both in good condition. Information to be given to Sergeant Arnold, Police Station, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow street, Nov. 15. Stolen between 1 and 2 p. m. on the 7th instant, from a meadow in Days- lane, Bexley : a well- bred high action light bay carriage Gelding, rising 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, small head, and near foreleg rather tender. By a mail, 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers ; dressed in long dark overcoat, grey mixture tight- fitting trousers, black felt hat; he ha* the appearance of a horse coper. - Metropolitan Police, R Division, November 15. Found on the 17th ultimo, near Stafford, and supposed to have been stolen: two red and white Heifers, mm" 3 years old, and in good condition. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford.— Bow- street, Novemb- r 13, LARCENY ilB EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded - 13th, stealing from 15, Goodge- street, St. Pancras, a go Geneva Watch, ' K' on inside case ; two gold Rings, one loodstone, one turquoise; a dark grey alpaca Dress : a s rl, 18 years of age, 5 feet high, fair com- plexion, brown hair ; dress, dark stuff, black jacket, and straw hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, November 17. Description of ROBERT GRACE, charged with embez- zlement, 5 feet 3 inches higb, dark brown hair, cut short, grey eyes, freBh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, stoutly built, and a little bow- legged ; dressed in a dark bottle- green shooting coat, dark striped vest, black and white broken plaid trousers, black billycock hat, and low shoes; wears a black clotb suit and a high bat on Sundays. Has been pre- viously convicted, and been 5 years in a Reformatory SchooL He will probably Eeek employment as a carter, and is well known to a person in Beaumaris- street, Derby- road, Kirkdale, and also to a person in Bridge- street, Derby- road, Bootle, near Liverpool. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Police Office, Wigan', Lancashire, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of JOHN MARSDEN CALDWELL, charged with embezzlement: 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light sandy hair, whiskers and moustache ; and of shabby- genteel appearance. Has been convicted at Notting- ham of embezzlement, and will probably seek employment as a clerk or traveller. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Williams, Police Office, Wigan, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- sireet, November 17. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Keighley, between 6 and 7 a. m. on the 14th instant: a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, black velvet collar, lined with blue and black check woollen lining, strap inside collar with name thereon ' Pearson Atkinson, Keighley'; a suit of Clothes, small mixed plaid, black, red, and grey, viz, a single- breasted shooting Coat, two pockets outside laps, one outside left breast, a Bingle- breasted Yest, and a pair of Trousers, fly fronts ; a blue diagonal cloth Coat, double- breasted, two pockets outside laps, and one inside left breast, half worn j a grey and blue striped woollen Shirt; a soft grey billycock hat: and a pair of No. 8 lace- up watertight Boots, with brass eyelet holes, nearly new. By a tramping painter who had lodged in the house about a week, 1 a native of Edinburgh, about 54 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, biown hair and whiskers, turning grey, bald on top of head, shaves upper lip and chin, large nose, small face ; dressed in black cloth shooting coat and 1 vest, much worn, dark mixture cloth trousers, soiled with I paint, black cloth cap, with very large top, leather strap, and j two brass buttons, and supposed the stolen boots. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Ireland, West Riding of I Yorkshire Constabulary, Keighley,— Bow street, Nov. 17. Absconded frcm Wigan, a man, who gave the name of | WALLACE, a journeyman barber or hair dresser, charged I on a warrant with stealing a Bicycle, a Razor Stone, a pair i of Scissors, ?, Sponge, and a Pawn Ticket; the property of Charles Taylor, bair dresser, of Standishgate : Wallace is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair and complexion, no whiskers, dark brown moustache, one eye is smaller than the other, and has a swaggering gait; dressed in old black cloth coat, dark trousers, soft black billycock hat, and old elastic- side boots; he speaks with an American accent, but he is supposed to be an Irishman. He was seen in Stanningly, Leeds, on the 10th instant, where he disposed of the pawn ticket to a hairdresser ; he then stated that he was going to another hairdresser in the covered Market, Leeds. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Wigan, Lancashire. — Bow- street, November 17. Further information respecting EDWARD LEE, jun.' alias SMITH, described in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, and charged with stealing Lead, & c., at Hastings: he is supposed to be travelling in Hampshire, Sussex, or Surrey, with gipsies, who have with them a van, bearing the name of ' Stanley, Havelock- park, Sonthsea.' Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings. Susstx.— Bow- street, November 17. Absconded from Hednesford on the 6th instant charged with larceny : RICHARD FREERSON, a miner, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, round full face, dark com- plexion, eyes, hair, moustache, and tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in pilot cloth jacket, black cloth waistcoat, brown cloth trousers, ]> atch on knees, brown and white stripe cotton shirt, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Police Constable Cockerell, Police Station, Hednesford', Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. Smith ° and Co Providence Wharf, Vauxhall : 25 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, hair, and whiskers, blue eyes, large mole on cheek, top front teeth and lips very prominent • dressed respectably. Absconded from Crowland, on the 11th instant, charged with stealing a pair of moleskin Trousers, very dirty and a print Shirt, the property of Joseph Cope : a labourer about 4o years of age, hair and whiskers round chin dark, tattooed on left arm with either heart or diamond ; dressed in worsted cap. short jacket, dark vest with large buttons, stolen trousers . Absconded from Market Drayton, Salop, charged with stealing a quantity of fish, the property of Thomas Bowring, his master : ALFRED PENSON, a fish salesman, 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, usually worn very long, stout built, and dirty looking. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Galliers, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of GEORGE CURTIS, late landlord of the 1 Hertfordshire Arms ' beerhouse, Windsor, charged on a warrant with larceny : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, black hair, turning grey. Formerly a servant to Leopold Rothschild, Esq. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Police Station, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- ttreet, November 15. Description of ALBERT C. COLE, charged with embezzling on the 26th September last, the sum of £ 7 15s., the monies of his master : he is about 18 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, full fresh clean face, brown hair, lias a large scar on cheek, and of rather pleasing countenance ; dressed when he left Exeter in a dark mixture grey suit, blue overcoat, and black bowler hat. Left here for London by the London and South Western Railway 30i, h ultimo. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Bent, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- it., November 15. Description of a tramping groom, charged with stealing a horse clipping Machine, recovered, from a stable at Denham, Bucks, on the 11th instant: he i3 about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, , no whiskers ; dressed in ai » old grey suit, trousers patched at knees, and hard felt bat; was accompanied by a man who had one arm in a sling, blind of one eye, aud wearing a white slop. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Sutton, Iver, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 15. Description of CHARLES CLAYDEN, a labourer, charged on a warrant with stealing 2 bushels of Barley at Littlebury, on the 11th instant; the property of Mr. John Burrell, his master : he is 60 years of age, but looks younger, about 6 feet high, medium size, grey hair and very thin, slight grey whiskers, eye3 very weak and red looking, and draws his mouth at one corner when talking ; dressed in a black billycock hat, blue and white striped cotton shirt, light cord jacket, vest., and trousers, and loEg light leather leggings nearly new, fastened with straps below the knees. He was making his way to London. Information to be given to Superintendent Flood, Newport, or to Inspector Allen, Saffron Walden, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, November 15. Absconded on 3rd instant, charged with embezzling a Cheque for £ 14 3s. 6d , and other large sums in July last, the monies of his masters, Quick and Co., leather merchants, Exeter: EDWIN REYNOLDS, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, full face, rather . stout ; dress, black frock coat, dark trousers, high hat. He is a commercial traveller in the leather trade. Information t « be given to Chief Constable Bent, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, Nov. 15. Absconded on the 10th instant, embezzling £ 16 5s. 7s., from 48, Brushfield- street, Spitalfields : a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, moustache, and tuft on chin ; dressed iii dark clothes, and deerstalker hat. A native of Poland, and speaks English imperfectly. — Metropolitan Police, H Division, November 15. Further particulars with reference to the robbery at Captain Beville's, Great Horkesley, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant: WALTER SMITH deserted from Colchester Camp, not Aldershot, and will probably endeavour to enlist again, or visit miiitaiy towns. The following is a description of the property stolen : twenty yards of rich light blue Silk ; twenty yards of black moire Autique; ten yards of black Silk; a brown silk Dress, trimmed with a lighter shade ; a black silk Dress; a black Hat, trimmed with white lace and black velvet; a light blue i " ""^ J 0.' He is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, freckled face; dressed when last seen in dark suit with cap with two peaks. He is a native of Leicester, but had talked of going to Staleybridge, to work at a new bridge in course of erection there. Information to be given to Superintendent Coope, Alfreton, or to Inspector Handley, Clay Cross, Derbyshire, who holds the warrant.— Botc street, November 13. Stolen from a bed- room at the ' Bricklayer's Arms' inn, Castle Donnington, on the morning of the 8th instant : a lady's gold Watcb, rather small size, flowered case, gold dial, supposed jewelled in three holes, black figures, the figures 9 and 10 are nearly rubbed out, makers name and number not known. By a man of the following description, who had lodged in the house one night, 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 oi 3 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and whiskers meeting under chin ; dressed in dark coat, cord trousers, and dark billycock hat; had the appearance of a tramping labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Peberdy, Loughborough, Leicester.— Bow- ttreet, November 13. Description of THOMAS HARDMAN, charged with ab- conding with workhouse Clothing, which are marked ' Barrow Workhouse' on the lining of jacket sleeve and on lining of vest and trousers : from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, hair turning grey, whiskers and mous- tache shaved off; dressed in grey tweed jacket and vest, white ribbed fustain trousers, and low blucher boots ; is a professional tramp, but has worked as a brickmaker, and is a native of Manchester. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Barker, County Police Office, Barrow- in- Furness, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 13. Stolen from the Royal Hotel, Suttos Coldfield, near Birmingham, on the 10th instant, the following articles : 13 silver Spoons, twelve tea. one dessert, marked ' H. W.' 1 silver Paper Knife, with Scripture text on each side. 1 small diamond Ring, diamond Burrounded viith pearls, 1 gold cameo Brooch, light colour. 1 small square silver Brooch. 1 small old- fashioned gold Ear- ring. 1 silver Buckle, about 3 inches long. 1 small Penknife. 1 lady's Hair Pin, imitation of a bunch of currants. 1 string of Pearls. 1 smali rosewood Box, lined with green velvet. 1 small silver- plated Scent- box, washed with gold inside. By a man of the following description, who engaged a bed there the day previous : he is about 22 years of age, short and stout, fair complexion, and clean shaved : dressed in a dark plaid suit intermixed with red and green, deerstalker hat, and black satin necktie. He left behind him an old black leather bag which contained a pillow. Information to be given to Superintendent Callaway, Constabulary Station, Aston, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- st., Nov. 13. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Bolton, on the 30th ultimo : a Telescope, marked ' Wood, 74, Cheap- side, London ;' a bunch of Kejs, a black silk Handkerchief, a Pocket- book, and a pair of blue cloth Trousers, marked in the lining ' Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company.' Also from anuther dwelling- house, on the 6th instant: £ 2 14s. 6d. in Money, aud a pair of tweed cloth Trousers, which have since been found pledged. Both felonies were effected by a man named ROBERT WELSH UNSWORTH, alias THOMAS BLACK, alias ROBERT HALL, from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight mouetache, but no whiskers, and has lost the end of the middle finger of left band ; dressed in black cloth frock overcoat and vest, dark cloth trousers, and black billycock hat. Stated he was an agent for the sale of sewing machines, and at another place that he was a bellhanger, and that he belonged to the Primitive Methodist body. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street., November 13.
