At the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persona unknown' was returned. A reward of £ 50 is offered by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the child, and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Stolen from the person of Thomas Taylor, at Langtoff, East Biding, while sleeping in a field, between 12 midnight and 5 a. m. on the 15th : a silver Watch, and silver Guard, maker Benson, No. 90071 ; about 5s. in Silver, and a Sovereign gold. Information to be given to Superintendent Harper, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 18. Stolen at Maidenhead and Marlow Regatta, on the 10th instant, from the person of Mark Taylor, of Windsor : a silver Geneva Watch, maker Benson, Ludgate- hill, London, No. 214871 written small, 20479 large, name scratched on inside of case. Supposed by a man, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair and eyes, no whiskers or moustache, and about 23 years of age. Or a man, 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair hair, very little fair whiskers and mous- tache, and carried an opera- glass over his shoulder. Or a man, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache shaved off, and about 29 years of age. These men wore high shiny hats, black frock coats, dark trousers and vests, and are supposed to be_ from London. Stolen from the person on Windsor Race Course on the 10th instant: an open- face gold Geneva Watch, enamel face, gold hands, the ring loose. Stolen from the person of Charles Edward Hodgkins, about 9' 30 p. m. on the 11th instant, between Cannock and Hednesford : a wash leather Bag, containing £ 22 in Gold and 3s. 6d. in Silver; a gold lever Watch, engine- turned case, black hands and figures, with seconds hand, a gold Chain, with spade ace Guinea attached, dated 1790 ; a gold Scarf Pin, round head, with diamond in centre ; and two small magnifying Glasses, set in brass frames. By two men: one about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, and dark whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and rough cap. The other about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, medium build, and dressed in dark clothes. Stolen from the person on the night of the 5th instant: a silver lever Hunting Watch, gold balance and joints, sunk seconds, jewelled in one pair holes, extra stop work attached, 18 size, No. 14279, maker ' Peter Dickinson, Preston,' had a silver Guard attached. Stolen from the person of Charles Webster, at the Forester's Fete, at Preston Hall Park, Aylesford, near Maid- stone, Kent, on the 7th ultimo : a silver Geneva Watch, open face, engine- turned case, and about 1 inch of plain link silver Albert Guard Chain, with swivel attached. Stolen from the person in Brighton since the 4th instant: a silver Watch, gold hands, one bent, and has a minute hand ; a gold hunting Watch ; a gentleman's Ring, with a, red stone ; and a gold keeper Ring, with the initials ' S. W. T on the inside ; a large gold Watch, with white dial, and gold second hand, name of ' Arnold' on dial, and ' John Arnold' on the works inside ; a gold Geneva Watch, makers Hunt and Roskell, late Storr, Mortimer and Co., Bond- street. A pair of gold Eyeglasses, chased. A silver lever Watch, maker Lemon, Gray's Inn- road, London. A gold double- case Watch, gold dial, No. 37076. A gentleman's gold lever Watch, engine- turned. A gold Geneva Watch, No. 7131, with gold guard chain attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 8. Stolen from the person on Lewes Race Course, on the 4th and 5th instant : A Pocket- book, containing 10s., two Keys, and some Memoranda. A silver Watch. An old- fashioned gold Verge Watch, No. 33054. A gentleman's gold open- face semi- chronometer Watch, maker ' Dent, Royal Exchange, London,' with white enamel dial, gold hands, sunk seconds, and inscribed cester, between 2 and 3 p. m. on tbe 15th instant: an open- face silver verge Watch, maker Skipten, Cirencester, No. scratched on the back ' 5909 an old 5s. Piece, dated Charles the Second; a plated Knife and Fork ; a black Carpet Bag; and between £ 3 and £ 4 in Gold and Silver. Also stolen between 3 and 6 pm. on the 15th instant, from a cottage in the nursery at Cirencester : a set of false Teeth, set in Silver. Two men are suspected : one about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, and dressed in a dark coat, white vest, dark trousers, and high hat. The other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, and dressed in dark clothes, and a black deerstalker hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, Police Office, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, August 18. On the 11 th inst., between 6 a. m. and 8 p. m., the dwelling- house of William Hill, of Compton Hall Farm, Kinver, near Stourbridge, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of plaid Trousers, a plaid Vest, a dresspiece of chocolate- coloured cotton Print, a pair of boys drab cotton corduroy Trousers, a Ham about 20 or 25 lbs. weight, a blue and white plaid bundle Handkerchief, patched in the middle. Supposed by a man, a tramp, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, swarthy complexion, stout build, no beard or whiskers, dark hair ( cut short) ; dressed in white slop, stripe cotton shirt, cord trousers ( nearly new, similar to those worn by railway porters), new boots with brass eyelet holes and toe- caps, patent leather down the sides, and black hard billycock hat. He was carrying a dark mixture coloured jacket and brown frail on his arm. Said o ne from South Wales. Information to be given to Serg. evenson, Kinver, near Stourbidge, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 16. Between 3 and 5 p. m. on the 8th instant, a cottage at Clifton, near Tamwortb, was broken and entered and stolen thirein : a lady's cotton Dress, white, with puce stripe; a Shawl of tbe same material; two black scarf Shawls; and some copper Money. Supposed by a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inces high, rather stout buil^, black hair and whiskers ; dressed in a black pilot jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, strong lace- up boots, and black cloth (.' p. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Burton- on Treat, or to Sergeant Gilbride, Police Office, Tamworth, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 14. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Poplar Cottage, in tbe parish of Holywood, Dumfriesshire, on the 5th instant: three Sovereigns, two £ 1 Notes of the British Linen Company's Bank, and 6s. 6d. in silver Money, a large- sized gold cameo Brooch, female figure in centre; an oval- shaped jet Brooch, about 1J inches long; a pair of gold Earrings, shape of half moon. A tramp of the following description is suspected :— about 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, very little whiskers; dressed in dark cap, long black surtout coat, and grey trousers. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Dumfriesshire.— Bow- street, August 14. Batween 7 p. m. on the 6th and 11 a. m. on the 9th inst., the dwelling- house of Thomas Fuller, in the parish of Bar- wash, was broken and entered and stolen therein : an old German- silver verge Watch, with a short steel Chain and Key attached ; and a small Spy- glass, about 6 isches long, with green case. Information to be given to Superintendent Jenner, Battle, or to Sergeant Tobutt, Burwash, Sussex,— Bow- street, August 14. on the back of inner case ' Presented to G. P. Bacon, by a few Friends.' £ 10 reward. A very large silver verge Watjh, silver dial, the cise is very black, small dent in bottom case, bull's- eye glass, and flourished round the key- hole, JOHN WILLIAMS, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair; resides at the Star Coffee- shop, Bishopsgate, is single, and follows races ; dressed in grey trousers and dark coat and vest, is ia custody, charged with stealing this watch. During the night of the 15th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Wm. D. Hirtzel, of Sheerness, was broken into and stolen therein : four gold Rings, one with crest— a stag's head, and motto ' In den spes,' one large carbuncle ditto, one plain wedding ditto, and one turquoise ditto, with three blue stones; a small silver Tooth- pick, top broken; a small aluminium Pencil; a double- breasted black cloth Coat, open behind, and velvet collar ; a dark blue naval uniform frock Coat; a bluish twill serge cutaway Coat; a black ditto ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, rather old ; a pair of brown mixture ditto, marked on buttons ' A. and N. Co.'; two pairs of blue uniform ditto ; two dark cloth Vests ; four or five white & coloured Shirts, one or more marked ' W. D. Hirtzel'; four or five pairs of men's Socks, one pair black, and Some white with grey feet; and £ 1 5s. in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sitting- bourne, Kent.— Brno- street, August 18, Stolen by means of house- breaking from the dwelling- Stolen by means of house- breaking from the dwelling of of Mr. Michael Jealous of Coten End, in the borough of Warwick, between the 27th ultimo and 5th instant: a Jacket with imitation pockets on hips ; a grey tweed Vest ; two Crowns, two Half- crowns, and several Shillings and Sixpenny peices ( all old coins) and a quantity of copper Coins. Information to be given to Superintendent Lapworth, Police Office, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.— Bow- itrett, Aug. 14. Stolen by means of house- breaking in the City of Lincoln, between the 4th and the 7th instant: a very large old- fashionod silver hunting Watch, capped, much out of repair, two old Crown pieces, engraved on one side ' William Spire Saile,' with date. Supposed by a tramping Irishman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sandy whiskers ; dressed in a black billycock hat, white slop, and cord trousers. During the night of the 2nd instant, the railway station » t Stocksfield was broken into and stolen therefrom : 15s. in Copper Money, a lady's Dress, a brown Topcoat, a pair of light stripe Trousers, a pair of check Trousers, two pairs of elastic- side Boots, a pair of lace Boots, a double- breasted black Coat' and Vest, a blue Top Coat, five grey woollen Shirts, a long watch Chain with gold Key attached, eight linen Collars marked ' W. E.,' and three Scarfs. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh com- pletion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, the whiskers are thinner on cheek than on chin, the chin projects a little, and tattooed round right wrist in imitation of a bracelet; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, black corduroy Trousers ( the samt as railway porters wear), and black round felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Police Office, Hexham, Northumberland.— Bow- st, Aug. 11. i) n the night of 1st instant, a washhouse at Hanley Castle was entered by removing the casement, and stolen therefjom : a pair of Blankets ; three pairs of Sheets, one pair murked ' T. Gee,' another ' J.' or ' F. L.'; a cotton Coun- house of Mr. William Alexander, at East Cranhams, Ciren- tterpane; part of a cotton Dress; and a piece of Harden ; 2 POLICE GAZETTE. August 18 tie property of Dianna, Bullingham. Information to be' given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, Wor- cestershire.— Bow- street, August 11. Absconded from Morpeth, charged with breaking and entering the railway station at Rewliffin, on the night of the 25th ultimo, and stealing therein a large quantity of Cloth. & c. ( part of which has been recovered) : JAS. SWEENEY, about 28 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate make, brown hair, ginger- coloured whiskers and moustache, shaved about two inches down cheeks, tottoo marks on or around right wrist, hangs his head when walking, and speaks with an Irish accent; dressed in a faded blue or brown reefer jacket, railway cord trousers, mended on left knee and torn on sides of pockets, and faded cap with peak ; goes about the country carrying a sack, pretending to buy old clothes, and stops in common lodging- houses. He left New- castle on the 5th instant, carrying a large bundle, supposed to contain part oc the stolen property. Has a nu- nber of Pawntickets in bis possession. He is also charged with breaking into various railway stations in Northumberland and Durham. Information Lo be given to Superintendent Cocks, Police Office, Morpeth, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his appreheusion.— Bow- street, August 11. Between 10 p. m., 3rd, and 6 am., 4 instant, the dwelling- house of John Sleight, of Partney, was broken and entered, and stolen from the shop tiil : about 6s. Copper, and about the same amount iu small Silver Coins; also a pair of lace Boots, men's size, about half- worn, goloshed round, Heams up sides, pointed toecaps, one has a patch on behind, patent leather up laceholes, one hole torn out of each boot near the top en outside, they have 2 rows of round- headed nails round soles, and 3 rows of pquare headed ones in middle of sole, and 1 has been half heeled, Information, to be given to Superin- tendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- si. August 9. Between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the house of Mr. Edward Weller, of Bordon, near Sittingbourne, was broken and stolen therein : a brown Overcoat, with velvet collar ; a black cloth ditto ; two grey Yests; a striped ditto ; a pair of grey Trousers ; a pair of pepper- and- salt mixture ditto ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new ; three pocket Handkerchiefs, two coloured, one white ; a black Monkey Jacket; and a blaek soft felt hat. By two men and a woman ; one man is about 25 years of age, and about 5 feet 8 inches high ; the other man is about 25 years of age, and about 5 feet 6 inches high ; both dressed in old dark clothes ; the woman is about 23 years of uge, short, and slightly built; dressed in black hat imd jacket, and light buff- coloured dress. They had a brown retriever do^ with them. Information to be'given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sitting- bourne, Kent,— Bovj-- street, August 8. Dress, quite new, trimmed with blue round the bottom and blue covered buttons up the front; a cashmere Crossover, trimmed with black lace and bows on the back; a lady's rough black cloth Jacket, double breasted, two imitation pockets outside, and trimmed with black buttons down the front; a black leather Satchel; a sealskin Tie ; and about 12s. in Money. By ELLEN READ, who is good- looking and of good appearance, about 19 years of age, proportionate make, fair complexion, and hair cut short in front and hanging over her forehead ; dressed in a black felt hat with feathers, and probably the stolen articles, as she left her clothes behind. She has frequented Manchester, Liverpool, Stock- port, Newcastle, Stockton- on- Tees, and other parts of the country. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 14. Absconded on the 3rd instant from Nutley, Maresfield, Sussex, charged on a warrant with stealing two Sovereigns, two Half- sovereigns, aud a pair of men's light half Boots, nearly new : JESSE ROBINSON, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light complexion, hazel eyes, light hair, slight figure, turns his right knee in when walking, a labourer; dress* d in a dark slop, cord trousers, and hard felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex, or at any Police Station in East Sussex. — Bow- street, August 14. Stolen at Colesbourne on the 9th instant : a large old- fashioned silver pair- case Watcb, No. 86202, with a dent in the rim of outer case, steel Chain and pistol shaped Key. By a tramp, 38 years of age, 6 feet 71, inches high, brown hair and whiskers, rather fresh complexion, badley rnptured; dressed in jitucrow hat, with string round it, dirty white slop, cord trtmsers, and shoes, cut down the front. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Philpott, Nortbleach, er to Sergeant Chadd, Withington Station, Andoversford. — Brno- street, A ugust 14. Description af WILLIAM EVANS, charged on a war- rant with stealing a Donkey ( recovered) from Llanfyllin, on the 1st instant: he is 22 years of age, 5' feet 2 inches high, slender build, thin face and nose, large front teeth, pock- marked, weak eyes, light sandy hair, and no whiskers; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, brown cloth jacket, white slop, woollen cloth cap with white spots, and wore elastic- side boots ; he is a native of Ruabon, Denbighshire, a labourer, and has been working in Crew and Buckley. Information to be given to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 11. Abscended during the night of the 8th instant, from Mr. John Jones's, of Tanralt, Llanwnog, charged with steal- ing : a pair of woollen cord Trousers, newly washed ; a white Slop ; and an old grey cloth home- made Coat,— a, tramp, who had been working there, 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, light sandy whiskers, and the bridge of his nose has been broken ; dressed in a round hard black hat, and new lace- up Boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Pearson, Caersws, Montgomeryshire.— Brno- street, August 11. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from Harting, Sussex, charged with embezzling £ 36, the monies of the trustees of a Forester's Lodge: HENRY BRIDGEN, a shoemaker, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in black overeoat, black jacket, grey cloth trousers, with small stripes, waistcoat of same material, and soft felt hat. Infor- mation to be given ta Superintendent Clarke, West Sussex Constabulary, Midhurst, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen from a hut near the railway in construction at Tudor Hill. Sutton Coldfield, on the 4th instant, the property of James Newby: a navvies duck Jacket, with white horn buttons, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, also a quarter of a pound of Tea; a pound of Sugar ; and a pound of Currants. By two navvies of the following description : one about 5 feet 5 inches high, 21 years of age, sandy hair, and slightly built; tbe other about 5 feet 6 inches high, 20 years of age, very dark hair and complexion, and supposed to belong to either the Bedford, Berks, or Bucks Militia, as there was left behind a shirt, marked ' 18, B. M., 4 | 17 | 70,' the broad arrow with the letter ' D.' and number ' 20' under- neath. Information to be given to Superintendent* Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, August 11. Absconded from Bury, on the 14th ultimo, charg on a warrant with embezzling £ 21 9a., the monies of Joseph Webb & Co. : JAMES WILLIAMS, a warehouseman, about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, very light brown hair, grey eyes, rather pale complexion, very slight whiskers and moustache, square build, broad set, very bow- legged; probably dressed in light- coloured tweed clothing, and round hard felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 9. Description of WALTER BARBER, alias ' SOLDIER JACK,' charged on a warrant with stealing Clothing from a boat at Runcorn on the 4th instant: he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, very brown complexion, stout build, and stammers when speaking. He is well known at Norwich, and has been convicted of felony at Manchester, where ho in- supposed to be. Found in the water closet of the ladies' third class wait- ing- room, of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Station, at Sheffield, about 8' 20 p. m. on the 14th instant : the trunk and head of a male Child, apparently from 9 to 12 months old. The child features are of fair complexion, its eyes bluish grey, and its hair light, there being three teeth in the upper and two in the lower jaw. The arms and legs have been cut off and are not yet found. The trunk was wrapped in part of a child's skirt, woollen and cotton material, red and drab check pattern, and two pieces of an old slate- coloured ribbed silk petticoat, quilted, and lined with thin calico. T.', anchor, ' S. S.' and ' J. T.' on left arm, dark com- plexion, sunken cheeks, and is of drunken and dissipated habits. She is accompanied by her daughter, 1% years of age, and may be found begging. ESTHER WEBB, who was liberated from Kirkdale Gaol on the 21st ultimo, having been sentenced to 12 months1 imprisonment and 3 years police supervision on the 20th July, 1874, has failed to report herself at Wigan as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : she is 18 years of age, 4 feet 9 inches high, hair dark brown, slightly pockmarked, small scar left side of forehead.
