WHITTAKER, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, black moustache, small whiskers, and has a scar on one cheek, near the eye ; dressed in dark clothes, and of respectable appear- ance ; he is supposed to be accompanied by a young woman, with a brown tin trunk, and a black trunk, studded with brass nails. They will probably endeavour to emigrate. A reward of £- 20 is offered for the apprehension and convic- tion of the offender. JOHN WILLIAMS, 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, resides at the Star Coffee- shop, Bishopsgate, single, follows races ; dressed in grey trousers, dark coat and vest, is in custody, charged with stealing this watch. A small keyless silver Watch, ' S. C.' on outside of case, point of minute hand broken off. A gold open- face Geneva Wat<; li, engine- turned back, gold face,' and gold Albert Chain, snake pattern, with a Seal and Key attached. Between 10 p. m., 3rd, and 6 a. m., 4 instant, the dwelling- house of John Sleight, of Partney, was broken and entered, and stolen from the shop till : about 6s. Copper, and about the same amount in small Silvei Coins ; also a pair of lace Boots, men's size, about half- worn, goloshed round, seams up sides, pointed toecaps, one has a patch on behind, patent leather up laceholes, one hole torn out of each boot near the top on outside, they have 2 rows of round- headed nails round soles, and 3 rows of square headed ones in middle of sole, and 1 has been half heeled. During the night of the 3rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Lefevre James Cranstone, of Marlows, Hemel Hempstead, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of silver sugar Tongs; a black cloth Overcoat, with cloth buttons, two side pockets outside, one inside on the left, lined with black alpaca ; a pair of small black Opera- glasses; and a small carved ivory Chinese puzzle, in an ivory carved Box about 22 inches square. Information to be given to Superintendent Esgate, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.— Bow- street, Auqust 8. Between 9 a m. and 4 p. m. on the 3rd instant, the house of Mr. Edward Weller, of Bordon, near Sittingbourne, was broken and stolen therein : a brown Overcoat, with velvet collar ; a black cloth ditto ; two grey Vests; a striped ditto; a pair ot grey Trousers; a pair of pepper- and- salt mixture ditto ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new ; three pocket Handkerchiefs, two coloured, one white ; a black Monkey Jacket j and a black soft felt hat. By two men and a woman: one man is about 25 years of age, and about 5 feet 8 inches high ; the other man is about 25 years of age, and about 5 feet 6 inches high; both dressed in old daik elothes; the woman is about 23 years of age, short, and slightly built; dressed in black hat and jacket, and light buff- coloured dress. Between 1 and 8 p. m. on the 2nd instant, the dwelling- house of John Freeman, in the parish of Cuckfield, wa « bioken and entered and stolen therein : a black scarf Shaw], three Hand Towels, two Tea Cloths, one Table Cloth, a white calico Shirt, marked ' W. F.' in red cotton, three coarse linen Sheets, marked ' J. F. No. 5,' in red cotton, a dark woollen Blanket, a black silk Veil, a plain gold wedding Eing, a silver Keeper Eing, dated ' 1862'; a small gold Brooch, with two small blue stones ; two small plain gold cuff Studs ; a pair of black Ear- rings, with gold wires; a gold Locket, with a gen- tleman's Photograph on one side and hair on the other; six common black Studs and a pair of Ear- rings ; a patent lever Truss ; about 16 yards of Calico ; two yards- and- half black Cloth, three yards bead Trimming and a small China Doll; a quantity of Silver and Bronze Monies ; Is. 2d. in old copper Coins, one with ' J. B.' stamped on it, a small silver Indian Coin, and about 4 lbs. of uncooked Pork. Supposed by a man 19 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, pale face, light hair, and slight make; dressed in light plaid suit, rather faded, Balmoral boots, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 4. Between 11 p. m. 24th and 5- 30 a. m. on the 25th ultimo, Swynnerton Grange Farm, near Stone, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 3 in Gold, 7s. in Silver, a sealskin Purse, and a pair of lady's kid side- spring Boots ; the property of Mr. Albert Barlow. Information to be given to Superintendent Crisp, Police Office, Stone, or to Sergeant Dix, Police Station, Ashley, near Market Drayton, Stafford- shire.— Boxo- street, August 2. Between 5 and 9 p. m. on the 29 th ultimo, a cottage at Barnett Gate, near Eynsham, Oxon, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a cord Jacket with fustian back and sleeves ; a brown cloth Vest, a Cap ; and an old verge Watch with brass cases. Supposed by a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, and stoutly made. Supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. Stolen between 7 p. m. 4th, and 10 a. m. on the 6th instant from a field at Old Oak Common, Acton : a dark bay cart Mare), 6 years old, 15J hands high, star on forehead, near fore and off bind feet " white, short legs, thick full body, no shoes. Supposed by two men, one dressed in dark and. the other in light clothes.— Metropolitan Fclice, X Division, August II. The Mare advertised in the Police Gazette of 31st ultimo, as stolen near Brownhills, has been restored to the owner. On 24th ult. the man BEAMWELL hired a trap from Eugeley to Abbotts Bromley, and another thence to Uttoxeter. He° was heard of at Wetley Eocks, nr. Leek, on 29th ult., and is supposed to be still in North Staffordshire, and to be known to canal boatmen. During the night of the 2nd instant, the railway station \ at Stocksfield wa3 broken into and stolen therefrom : 15s. in 1 Copper Money, a lady's Dress, a brown Topcoat, a pair of I light stripe Trousers, a pair of check Trousers, two pairs of ! elastic- side Boots, a pair of lace Boots, a double- breasted black Coat and Vest, a blue Top Coat, five grey woollen! Shirts, a long watch Chain with gold Key attached, eight' linen Collars marked ' W. F.,' and three Scarfs. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, the whiskers are thinner on cheek than on chin, the chin projects a little, and tattooed round right wrist in imitation of a bracelet; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, black corduroy Trousers ( the same as railway porters wear), and black round felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Police Office, Hexham, Northumberland.— Bow- st, Aug. 11. On the night of 1st instant, a washhouse at Hanley Castle was entered by removing the casement, and stolen therefrom : a pair of Blankets ; three pairs of Sheets, one pair marked ' T. Gee,' another ' J.' or ' F. L.'; a cotton Coun- terpane ; part of a cotton Dress ; and a piece of Harden ; the property of Dianna Bullingham. Absconded from Morpeth, charged with breaking and entering the railway station at Eewliffin, on the night of the 25th ultimo, and stealing therein a large quantity of Cloth. & c. ( part of which has been recovered) : JAS. SWEENEY, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate make, brown hair, ginger- coloured whiskers and moustache, shaved about two inches down cheeks, tottoo marks on or around right wrist, hangs his head when walking, and speaks with an Irish accent; dressed in a faded blue or brown reefer jacket, railway cord trousers, mended on left knee and torn on sides of pockets, and faded cap with psak ; goes about the country carrying a sack, pretending to buy old clothes, and stop3 in common lodging- houses. He left New- castle on the 5th instant, carrying a large bundle, supposed to contain part of the stolen property. Has a number of Pawntickets in his possession. He is also charged with breaking into various railway stations in Northumberland and Durham. Stolen from a field at Madeley, Salop, on the night of the 31st ultimo : a fat roan- coloured Cow, about 6 years old, scissor marked on loin and hip, the property of George Cart- wright, butcher : Five guineas reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery ot the cow. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Ironbridge, Salop. — Bcno- street, Avxjust 8. Stolen from a field at Chasetown, on the night of the 30th ult. : a Lamb, marked ' C. C. F.' Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Stafford- shire.— Bois- st' eet, August One of the Ponies advertised in the Police G&^ tte of the 31st ultimo, as stolen from Wylde, near. Birmingham^ has been found near Walsall, and restored to the ortrtor. The other is still missing. Supposed to have been stolen on the- night of the 1st instant, from an Orchard at Wall Hills, Ledbury : a dark brown nag Horse, 6 years old, about 15 hands 2 inches high, and with a thin tail. If stolen a reward of £ 5 will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, ou application to Mr. Insley, Wall Hills. Stolen from a field at Seaton Burn, near Newcastle- upon- Tyne, on the 26i. h of June last, : a dark bay or brown carriage Horse, 15 bands 3 inches high, 6 years old, a white spot on ihe forehead, and a little white ou one bind foot. Information to be given 10 Deputy Chief Constable Taylor, Constabulary Office, Bulman Village, Northumberland.— Bow- street, August 2. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Llanunda, on the night of 25th ultimo. : a chesnut Mare, 6 years old, about 14 hands high, large white streak down forehead, and a little white on hind legs. Information to be given to Sergeant Evans, Fishguard, or to the Chief Constable's Offices, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.— Bovi- street, August 2. Stolen on 25th ultimo : 2 small Pigs ( recovered). By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5jinclies high, very fair complexion, light hair, slight whiskers, few straggling hairs on chin, has a number of small lumps or sores under his chin ; dressed in black cloth frock coat, black cloth trousers, dark vest, lace- up boots ( each patched on outer side), dark cloth close- fitting cap with peak. Description af WILLIAM EVANS, charged on a war- rant with stealing a Donkey ( recovered) from Llanfyllin, on the 1st instant : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, slender build, thin face and nose, large front teeth, pock- marked, weak eyes, light sandy hair, and no whiskers; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, brown cloth jacket, white slop, woollen cloth cap with white spots, and wore elastic- side boots ; he is a native of Ruabon, Denbighshire, a labourer, and has been working in Crew and Buckley. Information to be given to Police Constable Williams, Llanfyllin, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, August 11. Absconded during the night of the 8th instant, from Mr. John, Jones's, of Tanralt. Llanwnog, charged with steal- ing : a pair of woollen cord Trousers, newly washed ; a white Slop ; and an old grey cloth home- made Cost,-— a tramp, who had been working there, 30 to 40 years of age, aboijt 5 feet 4 inches high, light sandy whiskers, and the bridge of - his nose has been broken; dre'ssed in a round hard black bat, and new lace- up Boots. IgggAbsconded on the 3rd instant, from Harting, Sussex, charged with embezzling £ 36, the monies of the trustees of a Forester's Lodge: HENRY BRIDGEN, a shoemaker, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in black overcoat, black jacket, grey cloth trousers, with small stripes, waistcoat of same material, and soft felt hat. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Clarke, West Sussex Constabulary, Midhurst, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen from a hut near the railway in construction at Tudor Hill, Sutton Coldfield, on the 4th instant, the property of James Newby : a navvies duck Jacket, with white horn buttons, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, also a quarter of a pound of Tea; a pound of Sugar ; and a pound of Currants. By two navvies of the following description : one about 5 feet' 5 inches high, 21 years of age, sandy hair, and slightly built; the other about 5 feet 6 inches high, 20 years of age, very dark hair and complexion, and supposed to belong to either the Bedford, Berks, or Bucks Militia, as there was left behind a shirt, marked ' 18, B. M., 4 | 17 | 70,' the broad arrow with the letter ' D.' and number ' 20' under- neath. Information to be given to Superintendent Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, August 11. Absconded from Bury, on the 14th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 21 9s., the monies of Joseph Webb & Co. : JAMES WILLIAMS, a warehouseman, about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, very light brown hair, grey eyes, rather pale complexion, very slight whiskers and moustache, square build, broad set, very bow- legged; probably dressed in light- coloured tweed clothing, andxound hard felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire .— Bow- street, August 9. Description of WALTER BARBER, alias ' SOLDIER JACK,' charged on a warrant with stealing Clothing from a boat at Runcorn on the 4th instant,: he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, very brown complexion, stout build, and stammers when speaking. He is well known at Norwich, and has been convicted of felony at Manchester, where he is supposed to be. Information to be given to Superintendent Steen, Town Kail, Runcorn, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 9. Absconded on the 4th instant, from 135, Tottenham Court- road, stealing : a black and yellow japanned tin cash Box, containing £ 20 in Gold and Silver, and a Policy of Insurance: a youth, 17 years of age, 5 feet high, fair com- plexion ; dressed in black frock coat, dark vest, check trousers, and low black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 9. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Heath Hays, Cannock, on the 3rd instant, the property of David Colbour : a blue pilot Jacket, with velvet collar, pockets on hips, one inside left breast, dark tweed lining, and black buttons ; a black cloth Coat; a pair of men's light grey worsted Stockings ; a wbite Pocket- handkerchief, with blue border ; and a Pocket Knife, with white haft; all partly worn. By a lodger named JOSEPH PEARCE, a miner, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, round features, dark brown hair, no whiskers oi moustache, and has a large lump on left cheek ; supposed dressed in brown velvet jacket, brown cloth trousers, fancy cloth vest, with white spots, black and white striped silk necktie, sealskin cap, and lace- up boots ; has recently worked at Bloxwicb.
