Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear t5se Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, -> the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the SOLICH GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, aEd of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 8 am., on the 16th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born Female Child was found in a meadow in the parish of Thorley, near the town of Bishop's Stortford, ad- joining the turnpike- road. The body was wrapped up in a Bishop's Sioitford newspaper, dated the 10th June. At the Coroner's Inquest, on the 17th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder, against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Byder, Police Station, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.— Bow- street, • June 23. Description of GEORGE SMITH, charged with the manslaughter of Thomas Hilton, at Walton- on- Thames, on the 14th instant : he is a travelling chair bottomer and • basket maker, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light brown hair and whiskers, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a pepper and salt jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, black soft felt hat. Supposed to belong to Oxfordshire, and to have a brother residing at reading. Is likely to be found in the company of pea pickers. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Cheitsey.— Bom- street, June 23. The dead body of a female infant, was found in a field at Thornbury, near Bradford, on the 8th instant: it was wrapped in an old dirty cotton chemise, mended in several places, and very much stained ; the mother is supposed to be a tramp. At the coroners inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Supeiintendent Ball, West Biding of Yorkshire Constabulary. Bradtord.— Bow- street, June 19. pawnbroker, was broken into, and stolen therein : a small Geneva Watch, No. 16044, long metal Chain, snake pattern attached; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 30872, black hair Guard attached ; and a metal case keyless Watch, No. 1312. Information to be given to Deputy Cbief Constable Adams, Mold, or to Sergeant Ward, Flint, Flintshire.— Bow- stnet. June 19. During the night of the 12th instant the dwelling- house of Mr. Cottrell, of Stanborough- house, Watford, was broken and entered, and a fine corded brown silk dress Skirt, trimmed with brown velvet, about three inches wide, stolen therein. Supposed by three men : one, 5 feet 10 inches high, and fair hair and complexion ; dressed in black cloth coat, dark trousers and vest, high hat, and a gay- coloured scarf with orange spots. Another, dark hair and complexion, 5 ft. 8 ins. high ; dressed in dark coat, grey trousers and vest, and high hat. And the other, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and deer- stalker hat. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Boic- st., June 19 Between 3 and 6 a. m. on the 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Chambers, Church- lane, Llanidloes, was broken into and stolen therein : a pair of lace- up Boots, with brass eyelets and hobnails, man's small size, and little worn ; a white pocket Handkerchief, with red border ; a Loaf of Bread ; half- a- pound of Butter ; two pounds o£ Sugar; and a Teaspoon. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather sandy, aud stout; wore a cap, dark coat, and the stolen boots ; carried a bundle. In- formation to be given to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to Sergeant Sibbald, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire. - Bow- street, June 14. bourne, on the 27th January last : he is about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, thin face, rather large nose and high forehead, dark brown eyes, very dark hair, cut short and parted in centre, small dark whiskers at sides of face, a scar on neck, slight build, and stoops ; he follows races, and is usually employed as a stable- man at racing stables. GRIEVE, charged with embezzlement, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, is in custody.— Bow- street, Juni 23. The tramping printer described in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant, as suspected of stealing Boots at Spilsby, has been committed for trial at the ( Quarter Sessions, to be holden at Spilsby on the 4th proximo; his name is WIL- LIAM LEAK, a native of York. In June 1875 he was convicted at Barnsley, and in December, 1875, at Bradford, of felony. In his possession was found a plated Caddy Spoon, with pearl handle, supposed stolen. Information to be given to Superintendent Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 23. Stolen ou the 12th instant, from a meadow at Spring- Also stolen about, 6 p m. on the 14th instant, from a lodging- house in Wigan : three single Blankets, a twill Sheet, a man's check cotton Shirt, a paisley Shawl, and a scarlet and black woollen Sbawl, one white stripe. By a man, a tailor, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers, aud moustache ; dressed in dark mixture tweed shooting coat and trousers, elastic- side boots, and black billycock hat. Between 1 and 5 a. m. on the 19tli instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Trusler was broken into at North Sussex, and stolen therefrom : a small Geneva Watch, ' Examined by W. Games, Kensington,' on the inside : an old fashioned verge Watch ; a gold scarf Pin, with an imitation diamond in centre, and small stones round ; a six chambered Revolver, a large meerschaum Pipe, a Half- sovereign, and some small Coins. Supposed by a man, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale Complexion, brown hair, little hair on face ; dressed in dark mixture coat, rather light- colour ti- oussfs, black soft felt hat. He had a woman with him, whom he called his with embezzling the Moneys of his master William Briant, wife, who absconded with him, and are supposed to be Baverstock, at Shalbourn : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet travelling together: she is about 35 . years of age, about, 6 inches higb, fresh complexion, full. round face, light browu 5 feet 6 inches high, very much sunburnt, brown hair, and hair, stout build, short neck, bow- legged, and is left handed. Absconded from Nottingham on the 14th instant, charged with stealing two £ 5 Notes, the property of Mr. Thomas Dickinson, proprietor of the ' Flying Horse' hotel: JAMES SNAILHAM, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 to 10 inches high, fresh complexion, hair dark brown and rather curly, dark whiskers, moustache a little lighter, shaves on chin. In April last he was employed as boots or porter at the Great Northern Kail way Hotel, Leeds, and in May last in the same capacity at thp Swan Hotel, Bolton, Lancashire. Description of HYMAN PERLMAN, charged on a warrant wih having, on the 21st ultimo, committed perjury in the High Court of Justice in the District Registry of the Hull Queen's Bench Division : 24 years of a^ e, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, freckled face, red curly hair, and slight ginger- coloured moustache and whiskers. May be travelling as a pedlar at Whitehaven, Barrow- in- Furness, or Middlesbrough. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, tinder this head, and giving the names of BALMER, CLAUDE ALLEN, & c., is supposed to have been at the Castle Hotel, Dartmouth, Devon, about a fortnight ago and passed a false cheque drawn on Messrs. Coutt's and Co , bankers, London. He is known at Dartmouth by the name of MacClaude Allen. Description of THOMAS KAY, grocer, formerly of Ashton- under- Lyne, charged with obtaining a quantity of Bacon, Cheese, and Butter by false pretences : 30 years of age, MXSCEXXA& SOUS IHFOZUMUkTXONS. Description of two women, remanded until the 26th inst., at Middlesbrough, charged with felony^: RACHAEL SOMERVILLE, 27 years of age, 5 ft. 6i ins. high, pale complexion, hazel eyes, light brown hair, and is a native of Leith; states that she lived with her father at No. 3, Albert- street, Leith Walk, Edinburgh, up to about three years ago. And MARGARET ELLEN GOULDING, alias KEN- NEDY, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, and a little round shouldered; she is supposed to have been previously convicted. Description of a woman committed for trial at the next Maidstone Quarter Sessions on the 29th inBtant, for arson and larceny : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout built, dark complexion, full face, and sun burnt; dressed in a dark dress and bonnet. She tramps the country, mends chairs, and had a child with her about 3 years old. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, June 23 Committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions, Northamp- ton, for felony : HENRY JONES, a dealer of Liverpool, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and complexion, and hazel eyes; dressed in grey mixture suit, brown overcoat, ' and billycock hat. ' And GEORGE WRIGHT, a dealer of Sleaford, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light brown hair, dark com- plexion, hazel eyes, and marks of a cross on left wrist; dressed in dark tweed coat and vest, grey mixture trousers, and billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Office, Kettering, Northamptonshire. Stoker, Police - Bow- street, June 23. 20th instant : a man who gives the name of WILLIAM BIRKIN, and who says he belongs to Barnsley, and worked as a loader, at a coal mine, and left in March last, and that since then he has worked on the Castleford Railway : he is 32 years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, no whiskers, beard about 8 days growth, and scar from a cut on left breast; dressed in a blue cloth dress coat, light striped tweed vest, a white slop underneath, old cord trousers, sewn at knees, calico shirt, red neckerchief, and strong laced boots, with brass eyelet holes ; he had in his possession a new strong twilled cotton shirt, machine made. Information to be given to Superintendent Danby, Police Station, Brigg, Lincolnshire.— Boui- strect, June 19. Absconded on the 9th inst., from the Reformatory, Ware; WILLIAM BRANDON, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, stout figure, fair complexion, freckled, blue eyes, thin nose, is slightly cross- eyed, bad sight, and walks a little bow- legged. A reward of £ 1 for his apprehension and all reasonable expenses will be paid by Governor Fi* h, Herts Reformatory, Ware.— Bow- street, June 16. Description of JOHN BRADLEY, committed to Usk Gaol, for 1 month's imprisonment, upon a charge of larceny : he is about 30 years of age, fresh complexior, brown hair, sandy moustache, hazel eyes, a wire drawer ; has served in the army, and is a member of the Royal Monmouth Militia; supposed to belong to some part of Staffordshire, but says he belongs to Birmingham. Information to be given to Super- intendent Wheeldon, Monmouth.— Bov- sireet, June 16. Missing from his home, at Hanley, since the 7th instant: ARTHUR ANGUS, a travelling draper, a native of Aberdeen, 26 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, hazel eyes, dimple on chin, and cut mark on forehead ; had on a small grey plaid coat, very light trousers and vest, billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots.
